whoa god um what do we have here it's a 15th century crossbow for a bavarian german army i can honestly say i've never had a medieval crossbow in here before well today's a good day i came to the pawn shop today to sell my 15th century crossbow and this crossbow is in excellent condition and it's extremely rare but i need to move now and if i can sell this right now i'm willing to do it for the right amount of money these things got an amazing history to them i mean the great thing about them was at close range you could go through a knight's armor this was the first armor-piercing bullet you were pretty deadly oh my god yeah well it's ridiculously heavy well hopefully you wouldn't be firing it with the windlass on it which you need a big reduction gear like this because this steel right here the spring steel is something you would never pull back with your hands yeah this is cutting edge 500 year old technology one of the great things about crossbows you don't need a lot of training to use them basically a guy could grab one of these things poke his head over a wall shoot and duck back down imagine a hundred men defending a castle with one of these it's going to be really difficult to get in what are you looking to do with it i'm looking to sell it i've got another one that i want to buy if i can sell this for a fair enough price then i can get the other crossbow i like what's a fair price to you twelve thousand dollars and i have no idea if that's the correct price i i really don't i'm not it's a reasonable price for something in this state with your original string and the original windlass on it i mean to me this thing looks like it's extremely old but i can't tell you if this thing is from the 1700s or from the 1300s um i'm going to call a buddy and get him down here and take a look at this it's all right with you i believed everything my customers said i'd be out of business um and a heartbeat let me go give him a call okay i'm fine with them calling in somebody i know the guy at the shop really loves it and i'm gonna be surprised if he lets me walk out the door carrying it boy that's really nice this is like a castle gun this is not one that you'd really be carrying around a lot and a lot of people give crossbows a bad rap because they're short range but to me it's a different kind of weapon than a longbow a longbow although you can point at somebody and shoot them and do damage it's really an indirect fire weapon like they use them in agincourt i mean throwing millions of them down onto troops this is direct fire you know you could take your time and aim at somebody from behind a castle rampart and hit them square in the chest crossbows have been around before christ chinese were using them and the romans were using them in the middle ages it was very important because you could train someone to use it in maybe five minutes it's sort of like the ak-47 of the middle ages so what year do you think it is a crossbow with this style probably does date between 1550 and 1650 because that's when germans were fighting a lot i mean a lot of interstate fighting and they always had things like this around the castles yeah i believe this is from the city-state of bavaria what makes you say that i've studied it it's a standard military-issue weapon at that time i tend to agree with you and one of the things that sort of leads me to believe that is this bone uh upper cover and that's there for a reason it's smoother than wood and it's less prone to splintering there's a functional reason this is here this is a military crossbow yeah what's the damn thing worth that's a good question because these do not trade on the public market the collector market for this is very tight uh but when you do find them and you see them sell at auction a crossbow like this that's original it has the original string a matching craniken no significant repairs that i can see no damage i'd say you're probably talking between seven and ten thousand dollars uh i want to disagree with you obviously twice that i don't know i haven't seen one and i monitor the auctions listen i think if you put this out at a show i'd get an offer you'd get an offer but i don't think probably more than one but i don't think it'd be twelve thousand i think you'd find it be a range of seven to ten or somebody that doesn't have a crossbow and has been wanting one this is if if you were a collector and you had to have one of these sometimes having to have one means you're going to spend extra money but that's not what i'm going to value the piece at right okay all right all right man thanks richard thanks this thing looks badass and i would love to have an early renaissance crossbow in my shop but as much as i want it i'm not going to overpay i'll tell you what i'll give you five grand for it no i i mean i couldn't consider that i can get a better offer than that i can't give it away i know you can't give it away i mean you put this in a man cave nobody's gonna notice sports memorabilia they're gonna walk right to the lighted case with this crossbow in it because this is a man's weapon okay um i mean what's your best best price my bottom dollar on it is ten five that's what i'll take you know what i'll go seven i ca i can't do that you know i need something really close to ten five i'll tell you what i'll go 7 500 bucks i mean i i'm not gonna pay what i feel it's more than it's worth i mean 7 500 bucks i think it's a really fair price you walk away with cash there's no marketing it anything else i have the thing i'm stuck with it i'll go nine five flat you know i mean i have this rule in life i mean if the deal's not right the deal's not right and the deal's only gonna be right at 7 500 bucks nine flat i can't do it you should it's a good deal thanks for bringing it in but 7 500 is what i can do you change your no hard feelings he should have paid me the 9 000 and not let me out the door because i'm going to pick up the phone i'm going to make a few phone calls and it's not going to last
