this final sabbath before our allegheny east camp meeting sabbath breaks for the next two sabbaths all i'm going to do is reiterate some of the things that doc prairie has already brought to our attention happy juneteenth isn't it amazing it was signed into law on thursday and the very next day was a federal holiday praise god for that out of all these years we finally got juneteenth as a national holiday to god be the glory and if you don't know the deep historical significance of juneteenth uh get with your families call someone call any of us to make sure reach out to make sure that you understand the impact of this federal national holiday that is long overdue but we're grateful that it is here now but it does have profound significance uh on when information is kept from free people uh what happens and uh there's a whole lot to say about when information is kept from free people uh that's a whole sermon by itself this one reminds you of that and happy father's day as was already mentioned to all the dads that are here uh there was something mentioned about the men's ministry last night it was a profound presentation by dr myron edmond and let me tell you all if you missed it unfortunately you missed it because it was limited to men only on last evening the only way to get access is to talk to the ministry uh ministry leader jason allen because it is not available for the general public you got to talk to jason allen to see if you can individually as men who missed it get access to it uh so it is a just a secluded group of those who can hear that women sorry to tell you that but you'll be grateful if every man every boy listens to it you will be blessed because of what we experienced last evening a couple of updates as you already heard about we're praying for the johnson and um we're praying that god will continue to restore we're so grateful that god preserved david johnson jr's life hallelujah uh when he tells his testimony uh it's going to be an amazing testimony coming forward to us now since betsy and david are in travel of course to corey's wedding who is our faith community nurse if you want any information this weekend please reach out to kathy coleman kathy coleman is acting in betsy johnson's place in fact if you want information about the johnsons call catholic coleman we're asking our church members not to reach out to david and to betsy to find out what happened what took place call cathy coney she will give you all the detailed information that you need she is acting in her stead and will you'll be blessed because of it and let's give the johnsons a break this weekend from anything and talk to kathy coleman so please do that uh throughout today uh if you have comments if you have questions that you will put in the chat uh our own claudia allen instead of preaching today she will be managing all of our uh platforms for all of the comments for your chats uh um yeah claudia's gonna handle that for us today and we praise god for it and finally as doc crary mentioned and i'm only reiterating this because repetition deepens the impression this business meeting that is coming up on this coming wednesday the 23rd at 7 30 p.m it is a very significant church business meeting we are covering the entire span of uh the covet for a year and a half for 18 months whatever the time frame is uh we're closing out what we did not do at the start of of january 2020 or january 21 into this year there's so much information that we want to bring to our church members in terms of updates as to what god has been doing for us an update on the status of your church on all the critical components that make the church move forward but in order for you to participate and we want all of our church members to participate but it is just for our church members that's why we have a registration process you must register that's everyone board members elders pastors members everyone must register to participate in this business meeting so please take the time to do it no you can't call in no it's not going to be on the general zoom you must register so we can't over emphasize that enough but we want you to register we want all of you to be a part of this business meeting you will be blessed to be there you will be amazed to see what god has been doing in his church and for his church over the last almost two years and so i just want to reiterate that because you really need you to participate in it and we know that god will bless you well i think i've talked enough i think i've covered everything doc creary thank you for uh leading us in the announcement and all i'm doing is reiterating this and um those who are with us you will be blessed you need to go and contact somebody right i get amen that was wonderful really really wonderful let us prepare our hearts for prayer our father and our god we salute you this wonderful sabbath day as all days are wonderful in the lives you have so graciously so graciously given us and we thank you for all your blessings lord those we know the ones we do not know and even those we can't even imagine we especially thank you for your word for you have said that as the rain comes down and the snow from heaven and does not return there but water the earth and make it bring forth and bud that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth you have said this you said it and to this end lord we ask that you bless the preacher of this hour and use pastor fordham to bless us in a mighty way in the sharing of this word that it may bring forth ever more profound understanding of you and your cause in this world we ask a special blessing for those who come before you in this service with great cares and concerns on their hearts concerns and crises of health a finance of relationships of decision of whatever troubles or perplexes them touch them with a finger of healing bind up their physical and spiritual wounds draw them and all of us nearer to you and may you surround us all with your abiding love we ask a special blessing for the johnson family and for david junior in this time of crisis when he has suffered so many wounds at the hands of yet another assassin yet another assassin but this one is so close to home bless him heal him and lift him up in such a way that when he is well all those will look at this and say it must have been god and bring them closer to you that you may embrace them embrace them and make them your own now to be sure or we also want to ask a special blessing for earl johnson uh who's a neighbor of of robs his wife and he celebrated 45 years of marriage and then she passed away just a few days later let us all please pray for them that they may a whole family be lifted up and find their way through this terrible terrible episode now to be sure this is an especially troubling time in the life of this beautiful planet lord that you've given us as our home there are wars and rumors of wars famines near famines hateful interpersonal violence of the gun especially in the wanton assassination of our people it seems to be everywhere and the twin monsters of poverty and disease ride boldly and often unfettered through our many communities leaving terrible disasters in their wake and amidst all of this the political and social leaders of whatever stripes seem unable to cope with these challenges and even as as so many in this country 48 states now are seeking to pass legislation that will reverse the franchise and keep us from voting even so we now celebrate this day june 10th and lord let us view this as a mighty beacon that will show us the way forward to a more positive future and to be sure lord we ask that we ask that you bless the fathers this day bless every father and for those who are struggling with this role please lord we remember that every father is doing the very best that they can so we ask you to encourage them and strengthen them in this role and so father we ask you to hold all of us in the hollow of your hand that you bless us moment by moment with your guidance that you keep us safe from all hurt harm and harassment that you empower our surrender to you that our will so graciously given us would return to you and become your will in our lives we ask that you simply just keep on being god all praise honor and glory be your holy name as we lift it up on high and extol it with all our might for you are great beyond greatness marvelous beyond all marvels gracious and loving be all all grace and and love themselves wonderful beyond all wonders and powerful beyond our most expansive notions of power we love you lord as we are commanded to love you with all our hearts with all our souls and with all our minds in the wonderful powerful glorious brilliant name of jesus amen it's so unusual it's frightening you see right through the mess inside me you pulled me out you pulled me in you told me i can start again and i don't need to keep on hiding i'm falling no matter what i do and it's not one or the other it's hard truth and ridiculous grace to be known i'm fully known and loved by you i'm fully known and loved by you it's so like you to keep pursuing it's so like me to go astray and i surrender to your kindness [Music] no matter what i do and it's not one nor the other it's hard truth and ridiculous grace to be known fully known and loved by you i'm fully known [Music] i cannot find the reasons why [Music] i cannot find the reasons why you give me so [Music] no matter what i do and it's not one nor the other it's hard truth and ridiculous grace to be known i'm fully known and loved by you i'm fully known and loved by you it's so unusual it's frightening i'm fully known [Music] well church family we are in for a treat today if you should have missed any uh sabbath it should not be today we have one of heaven's best jewels with us today and in my opinion uh the adventist church is one of the best voices in adventism we've got my brother from another mother pastor furman fordham uh man it's just a pleasure to have you with us today brother know what was happening man it's good to be with you brother listen man you have been one of my favorite preachers for years um i do have a little bone church family to pick with him something you ought to know about him in fact we might need to go into intercession doc medley in prayer right now uh he's from originally kansas city missouri and you are like a die-hard i don't even know if that's the best word but you're like a die die hard fan of the kansas city chiefs y'all pray for him is there anything else i mean what what what should i be i mean there are other options that's we can parse what those are but uh y'all pray for him he is an avid and when i mean avid i mean this brother uh is is a serious kansas city chiefs fan i do want to ask uh your lovely wife jennifer who is a co-worker actually of my sister this is really a special treat for me pastor fordham was my sister's pastor for 14 years at the riverside chapel symphony adventist church there in riverside tennessee and so he just shifted to another position in december in the conference office as the church's ministries and mission development director but man your nickname is puck you got a son's name price and packs and and and and pace dude where did that all come from um i'm assuming that you want the uh the truncated answer to that thing so let me let me let me start with my name um my father's into nicknames okay um my brother's nickname is skoog little babies in scandinavia are called skooglums so he named him school okay uh my father was reading honestly the sabbath school lesson and he came across a quote about uh from shakespeare's midsummer's night's dream where it talked about this mischievous little sprite named puck so he named me after puck you know and i will let y'all decide and determine whether or not uh i fit the bill on that thing so man when we were about to have children you know we're in the hospital and you know everybody else is thinking about the formal name and i'm thinking about the nickname that was important to me you know so we were not planning on having a child we were on the five year plan uh but we looked up and two and a half years in man a baby's coming okay and then he's supposed to come january 15. that was the due date but my wife's water broke on may 29th okay so we said he set his own pace okay we got the first name so man once we have pace and we got puck it's kind of like should the next one be a p now we kind of only nicknamed boys in our in our family if it's a girl you know just you you respect them but the boys you come up with some foolishness for him so man the next song comes and everything is in order we're ready we got the bag we didn't have to rush we called him pax okay uh in in latin i think it is the word pax means peace okay so we were at peace with him so man now third child is coming and we with my wife is thinking it's a girl man so and so out comes a boy i'm like this is crazy so i wasn't ready man so i gotta have another nickname so hey i got puck pace packs i gotta have a p you know the preacher is a literature i gotta ask man i'm in the uh in the hospital looking through uh dictionaries and thesauruses trying to come up with words and stuff at first we called him pride saying he was our pride and joy but uh his godfather my good friend uh woody said uh you know that some other organizations are using pride you might not want to go with that i said hey i appreciate that my brother so we switched to price and we said his smile was priceless right ah that's that's how we came up with puck pace packs and price i love it let me end on this with the last question so our church family gets to know who you are what is your greatest passion in ministry man it's it's it's it's twofold i i kind of feel like how jesus responded and said when asked about the greatest commandment he said love the lord thy god with all your heart mind and soul and the second one is like unto it right so i got two of these things noah man it is so important to me that we grasp the gospel man i feel like too frequently and we're going to talk about it in a second i feel like too frequently man we are being told what we need to do instead of what has already been done man the gospel is powerful so i got to be honest my number one passion man is communicating the gospel it is but a close second once the gospel has been communicated man we need to be mission driven brother and uh i had i had kind of paused that passion back in the day that was my no i had a conversation with anybody i was turning that conversation i remember mission man that's all i was talking about that was kind of pre-conversion i wasn't really converted lord put that thing on pause man introduced me to the need of the gospel and the outpouring of the holy spirit but then in this new position man wrap me back around to you know once you get the gospel in the holy spirit you do need to be on mission so i would say both of those things man i would say the good news of the gospel and being mission driven pastor thank you so much for blessing us already today the time is yours to share man i appreciate it i appreciate it noah thanks so much for that introduction for an opportunity uh just to be with you i appreciate the invitation i'm going to try my best not to take the side track and talk about the kansas city cheese i'm just going to keep that over there and see if i can keep it moving but i want to acknowledge uh dr medley uh someone that uh i and so many others look up to man we really appreciate spiritual professional pastors i'm talking about both of those things you know it's one thing you can have some people too heavenly minded no earthly good and we also can have some people that just think ministry is a profession and they have not been converted but dr medley you are an example of both of those things and man we honor you we expect we respect you uh you you are a a man's man you know uh and i i just admire you from afar and up close man and it's a blessing to be here with you and noah you know you my dude man prime forge all day brother uh praise the lord for this invitation and in their absence i do want to shout out uh pastors jeff brown ivan williams dwayne esmond the whole team and it's just good to be at brink club you know there are certain churches man you know yeah i got to give you all credit where credit is due i mean let's be honest you know there's certain churches that people want to be a part of you know people want to be can they want to go down to atlanta and they want to connect with weston or maybe beren you know and you got people that uh you know they might want to go down to oakwood and connect with first church or go to oakwood you know but man brinkleo p yo brinklo y'all have set yourselves apart as a standard and uh we just praise god for the ministry that just emanates out of is it ashton is that actually where you are uh and we just praise the lord for the emanuel brinklo seventh-day adventist church i have so many friends uh that are have been members of the church family members that are have been and just want to affirm uh each and every one of them when i was invited by noah i said man is is there a uh you know is there a theme you know he said no man you're free i said oh man praise god you know preachers man just like to be free you know sometimes you get invited to camp meeting they put that straight jacket on you they give you the text but man i was just free man so i thought about man father's day is coming up you know i'm thinking about this couple months ago you know man father's day okay we praying about that but then man the news starts starts coming out that that our uh our nation's capital is is trying to move this this juneteenth thing forward right you know we look up man and the house passed that thing now we were expecting that you know then in the senate my goodness i guess actually to send it past it first in the house you know and on thursday joseph r biden along with president of the senate kamala harris signed into law a federal holiday june 18th so with your permission i i just want to preach about the history that we are experiencing and what we can do to apply that to our understanding of the gospel i want to turn your attention to the book of second corinthians and there's a portion of scripture here that i believe is something that that we can benefit from second corinthians chapter five and there's a version that i found that i think is is is doing a great job of articulating what i think needs to be articulated it's the common english bible okay so we're reading second corinthians chapter 5 verses 13 through 21. i want to give you an opportunity to find that thing i tell you this man i'm glad that you all uh allowed me to look behind a studio i'm seeing elder ellis here i'm i'm i'm seeing uh uh a a bishop emeritus claudia allen here uh i i i appreciate our elder who led us with our uh uh welcome this morning and it's just good to have some faces to talk to man i've been accustomed uh to just preaching the screens man so i'm i'm glad that there's some people that i can look at i appreciate that i appreciate that i want to read in your hearing verses 13 through 21 second corinthians chapter 5 verses 13 through 21. paul says if we are crazy it's for god's sake that's good stuff that's good stuff if we are rational it's for your sake the love of christ controls us you know you can see that as the love of christ the love we have for christ or you can see it as the love of christ the love that christ has for us it's really the love that christ has for us that produces in us a love for him that controls us man it guides us it moves us he's saying the love of christ controls us get this because we have concluded this one died for the sake of all i don't know if you can grasp the import of what is being said here this is literally the gospel one died for all don't let anybody tell you that the gospel has been truncated that the atonement is is just for the saved or or that god restricted this thing no the bible says one died for the sake of all all sins were placed on jesus christ our iniquities were put on him and he died for the sins of all humanity i'm talking about past sins i'm to my present sins i'm talking about future sins the law had a debt we had gone out to cheesecake factory didn't have our debit card and we just racked up you know if you go out i got a pretty decent sized family five kids five people three boys and people can eat man we took them out to cheesecake factory for mother's day man that bill came to like 115 dollars i was amazed okay you can go out have a bill can't pay somebody comes pays your bill that is what is happening for the sake of it just went throughout cheesecake factory paying everybody's bill everybody's bill has been paid we have concluded this one died for the sake of all therefore all died that means that in the legal eyes of the of the of the supreme court of heaven judge god determines that we've already died in christ our penalty has been paid all humanity the penalty has been paid for all humanity all died he died for the sake of all so that this was the reason that those who are alive should not live for themselves but for the one who died for them and was raised the objective is that we not be selfish and self-centered bickering and messing with each other and having all of this conflict no the purpose of his dying for us and releasing us from the law and from its its demand that we give our life the purpose is that the old humanity might be done away with and this new humanity might be created elder mccreary or the query that actually loves god and loves others we're going to find out a little later that he talks about us being new creatures look at verse 16. so then from this point on we don't recognize people by human standards even though we used to know christ by human standards that isn't how we know him now so then if anyone is in christ that person is part of the new creation the old things have gone away and look new things have arrived all of these new things talking about the things we just talked about the fact that our penalty has been paid the fact that we no longer have a debt to pay to the to the law the fact that he died for all all of these new things are from god get this who reconciled us to himself through christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation in other words god was reconciling the world to himself through christ by not counting people's sins against them no literally he has his books out and instead of counting our sins against us instead of counting my envy and my jealousy and my hatred and my anger and my lust and my pride and my self-centeredness against me he actually put it on jesus tab that's what the bible is saying instead of counting people's sins against them he has trusted us with the message of reconciliation so we are ambassadors that's why i went and put my jacket on i'm an ambassador we are ambassadors who represent christ god is negotiating with you through us we beg you as christ representatives be reconciled to god god calls the one who didn't know sin to be sin for our sake so that through him we could become the righteousness of god i almost don't even want to mess it up by trying to preach on it i just want to let it sit there by itself but we're going to do the best that we can and see if we can expand upon the good news that is contained in these verses i want to speak on the subject what now what now would you buy your heads with me for a moment hover over me holy spirit bathe my trembling heart and brow fill me with your hallowed presence come on come and fill me now feel me now feel me now only you can feel me now so fill me with the hallowed presence come please come and feel us now in the name of jesus we pray amen amen what now i mentioned on thursday of this week june 17th joseph r biden our nation's president along with kamala harris the president of the senate signed into law a federal holiday june 18th today is the first juneteenth federal holiday its origins go all the way back really to september 22 1862 when the emancipation proclamation was signed by president lincoln and it had an effective date of june 1 1863. the nation was at war the civil war and what abraham lincoln's proclamation did uh by his wartime powers he defined those confederate states as as being in rebellion against the united states and he confiscated all of the slaves and freed them the challenge however was that in order for this to be effectual and experienced union soldiers needed to be able to go into these confederate areas and and implement the freedom that had been achieved but nonetheless legally speaking during that civil war on january 1st 1863 the slaves in those confederate states were free but then on june 19 1865 two and a half years later individuals who hard for us to recognize still had not received the word there's a dispute that goes on in historical circles about whether or not this is true they they find it hard to believe that there could have been slaves that did not receive the word they believe that the reality is that they knew but because the union army had not arrived yet the freedom could not be experienced or established the reality however is the the latest kind of communication was the telegraph yes they had newspapers but remember the overwhelming majority of african-american slaves are illiterate so you can put it in newspaper and and you can actually put it up on some public sign but that doesn't mean they knew pastor medley was talking about the reality of how we still keep information from certain people groups the word is that slave owners knew but they would not tell their slaves they were wanting to wait for another harvest season so that they could take advantage of the free labor that they have been enjoying for 150 some odd years there were individuals that had not heard had not heard that two and a half years earlier they had been declared free i need you to try to to put your feet in the shoes of of one of our ancestors you've been working for the master you've been slaving for the master you've been toiling for the master from sun up to sun down for the last two and a half years not knowing that jews free the reality is certain individuals had not heard and then on june 19 1865 major general gordon granger who has now been placed over the state of texas he marches into galveston texas with over 2 000 soldiers 75 of which are black individuals who now have on a union uniform come on now these are people who a few years ago they were enslaved now but but they received the declaration and emancipation that phase free and now they got on union dug digs and they they they got paid for by the government ammunition and rifles that they are authorized to use they are in galveston texas and and they with their chests out and with their arms folded are not just here to uh uh to be decoration no they are here to enforce what's about to be proclaimed the governor excuse me the major general then reads from the balcony of the ashton villa in galveston texas he reads his general order number three the people of texas are informed that in accordance with a proclamation from the executive of the united states all slaves are free this involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves and the connecting connection that heretofore existed between them becomes that of employer and hired labor they not only had a declaration that they were free they had the power of the army to enforce the freedom do you know that later historians write about what happened next there in galveston where there were a couple of different responses henry lewis gates writes about how some individuals celebrated with jubilation wheeze free gate cites a a descendant of a of a previously enslaved gentleman who says his father said we may have been freed prior to june 19th but we heard the good news that we were free on june 19th and they celebrated their freedom but there were others henry lewis gates sites that were a little less confident a little less jubilant he cites a specific lady her her name is is is kate and and she says my master whipped me before the war was over and she's still with me now and she continued to serve as a slave for six more years some people believed the good news and acted on it others believed the good news but didn't trust the power to act on it you know my bible makes it clear that humanity was enslaved way back in the garden of eden when our representative gave his allegiance to sin and to satan the entire human race was enslaved paul in romans 5 talks about how because of the sin of one all humanity became sinners but then the bible says because of the righteous action of one all humanity was justified the reality is that even in the garden the the word was announced uh an emancipation proclamation came forth even in the midst of the garden god said that i'm going to put enmity between the woman and and and the serpent between her seed and and his seed and and it her seed is going to crush the head of the serpent and in the meantime his heel would be bruised it is the first gospel promise genesis chapter 3 verse 15. it was articulating our emancipation proclamation and then jesus came and when he walked this earth and he lived a totally righteous life never giving in to satan's temptation never acting selfishly or self-centeredly or or removing himself from a trusting relationship with god never giving in to sin in a thought or in a deed and then this righteous one willingly goes to the cross and he who is righteous second corinthians chapter 5 verse 21 he who knows no sin willingly becomes sin for us he takes on our problems and our challenges and our pain and our dysfunction and our addiction and our death he was treated as we deserve so that we might be treated as he deserves he who knew no sin became sin for us and when he paid the price he ransomed us paid the penalty exhausted the debt when he paid the price he cried out it is finished and the first thing i want to say is that god has reconciled us that's what our verse says verse 18 all of these new things are from god who reconciled us to himself we need to understand that in romans paul frequently uses the word justify or justification which is more talking about the legal aspects of our deliverance but the word reconcile talks about the relational aspects of our deliverance we were at odds with god but every time the bible uses the word reconcile every time that verb is used understand this first it is always used in a past tense sense greek individuals who read greek know that the it's called the heiress it's it's talking about a completed action that that generally frequently happens in the past there's only one time when the verb for reconcile is used in a present sense and it comes right after the past tense of the verb to be was so it's still talking about past notice what paul is saying in second corinthians chapter 5 verse 18 all these new things are from god who reconciled us past tense we have already been reconciled all of us remember paul said in romans 5 while we were yet sinners christ died for us it's not that those who lived righteously those who said their prayers at night those who returned a faithful tithe in offering those who committed themselves to a vegan lifestyle those that kept us out no all of us our humanity was reconciled because the debt the sin that separated us from god had been taken care of we need to understand that this is why the gospel is called good news see we've had a bunch of conversations recently in our nation's discourse about the definition of news you know we had somebody for four years who talked about fake news and and seemed to make up his own news you know people ain't even know what news is anymore we got we got whole stations that just come up with commentary and opinions and and they put it forth like it's news to the point where we no longer even have an understanding a working definition of news news is what has already occurred see for example pastor noah um um the champions of super bowl 54 the kansas city chiefs that's news because see what me see news cannot be changed now i acknowledge the fact that my team went to the super bowl again and they lost i acknowledged that but their loss this past year doesn't take away their victory the year before you feel me because it's news see nose describes what has already been done see we need to understand the difference between good advice and good news good advice prescribes the future but good news proclaims the past good advice dictates what must be done but good news describes what has already been done i need you to know that the gospel that we have received is not advice about what you need to do it's not advice about what you must do it's not advice about what you should do it's good news about what god in jesus christ has already done jesus has paid every time reconcile is used it is speaking of a completed act in the past with the exception of the verb that we're going to get to when it describes what god was doing on the cross in christ but the effects are always speaking to something that has already been accomplished just like the news went out that the slaves were free the news has gone out that sinners have been saved it's good news it can be altered it can be adjusted it cannot be changed it's news all of these new things are from god who reconciled us to himself not only is it speaking of something that has already happened notice who did it none of the slaves in galveston had to get together and come up with the coalition and figure out by their wisdom and ingenuity how they gonna convince congress and how they gonna get the president to make a law and how we gonna enforce no no no no no no no abraham lincoln took care of that yeah yeah yeah see see too frequently we seem to not be grasping the understanding that whenever the word reconciled is used of god it's in the active sense god is the one doing it god is the one who reconciles us it's not something that we do it's something he did we don't have to go to god would you please reconcile us would you please so no not only is it something god does the bible never describes reconciliation as something that god needed to be done for him when it speaks of god it's something god has done and when it speaks of us it's passive it's something we receive i am hoping we are catching the good news that just like on june 1865 the good news was proclaimed that something had already been done for them they didn't have to earn it achieve it accomplish it they didn't just they literally had the opportunity to receive it and let me even put a little a little tangent right here even if they didn't receive it let's say that a few of them said i can't believe that this nation would actually free the slaves that don't make no how you what y'all thinking we can't believe the white man you know what they said all that kind of stuff right whether you believe it or not doesn't change the fact of the news you know a lot of people out there they don't they don't think they don't believe that the chiefs are on top of the hill but that don't change the news you know what i'm saying listen the reality is that jesus his death paid the penalty for all sin it paid it and that's news and it's not something that we have to build upon look at verse 19 look at verse 19 let me finish verse 18 who reconciled us to himself past tense through christ and he gave us the ministry of reconciliation i'm gonna come back to that i'm in other words god was reconciling this is where you get that one sense of something that's continuing to happen but it's already happened he was reconciling you follow me it's not that he is reconciling he was reconciling he was reconciling the world to himself through christ not counting people's sins against them but counting them on christ and once christ died and rose again god was finished reconciling the world to himself the world had already been reconciled and if you believe it praise the lord if you don't believe it doesn't change the status you know it's interesting i was reading a book watchmene and he talked about how faith is the substantiating of facts what he means is for example colors are facts when you see them with your eyes you substantiate them you make them real for you but if you keep your eyes closed colors are still colors music is a fact you substantiate it by listening to it if you close your ears you know i don't like that gospel music you close your ears it doesn't change the fact of the music the music still is it's just not being for you well whether or not we receive it reject it doesn't change the status of it jesus has already paid our pencil penalty and god has declared an emancipation proclamation the bible says still in verse 19. in other words god was reconciling the world to himself through christ by not counting people's sins against them and he has trusted us with this message of reconciliation that's the same as that ministry of reconciliation that we read at the end of verse 18. that's the second thing i want to talk about the first thing i'm saying is we have been reconciled all of us it's news the next thing i want to say is we have been given the assignment to reconcile you know those black soldiers [Music] many of them were individuals who were already free in northern states and they joined the army so that they could help the north to win and they might be able to secure freedom from their brothers and sisters there were others who were slaves who had escaped and they joined the union soldiers and they now wanted to be a part of helping others to experience this freedom then there were some who were members of a previously confederate occupied territory and once they had been freed they joined the army to participate in freeing others we are like that third category our territory has already been overtaken by god through jesus christ the prince of this world has been cast out we don't have to sneak away steal away jesus christ was the harriet tubman not you and me we don't have to make ourselves free we've already been declared free but it only makes sense that once you've been free that you want to get in the army use your influence use your ability use your testimony to help somebody else get free the bible says that we have been given the ministry of reconciliation we have been reconciled and we exist to reconcile we're supposed to go out telling other people hey you know you's free right we're supposed to go out sharing the good news that jesus has paid our penalty and provided our righteousness and that it's already been done we have been called to the ministry of reconciliation we have been reconciled it's news and we've been given a commission to reconcile but then we have in verse 20. the one time when reconcile it's it's still in the in the past kind of passive sense but it's no longer in the indicative it's in the imperative it's a command when we read in verse 20 so we are ambassadors who represent christ god is negotiating with you through us we beg you as christ representatives be reconciled to god it can almost confuse you i i thought we were reconciled i thought all humanity had had had been had been the beneficiary of a bill that had been paid you know all of our sins isaiah talks about it all of the iniquities were were placed on him and with his stripes we were healed i thought that that all of the world's sins had been atoned for by jesus christ well yes but but but god is not a slave master like our previous slave master god is not going to force us and inscript us and and demand that we be in his service uh we have been reconciled but we have the choice as to whether or not we want to be reconciled i don't know i i think it i think it's a little hard for me to imagine that that somebody you know and i wasn't there i can't put any shade on them but but it's hard for me to imagine that [Music] that the announcement goes for it from president abraham lincoln the announcement has also gone forth that the civil war is over the union has won they're stronger the confederacy was cast out it's hard for me to believe that with the display of the 2 000 plus soldiers here to enforce what has been done and my bible tells us that jesus didn't just leave us without a helper he left us with the holy spirit to apply and to to enforce if i could use to imply the apply the merits of salvation we are not left here to do battle with this toothless enemy by ourselves no the holy spirit gives us power and and gives us god's promises and and we are able through the indwelling power of the holy spirit to live righteously and to live consistent with the profession i find it hard with all the armaments of the holy spirit's power and angels who have been dispatched on command and the fact that we can go to god in the most holy place through prayer and we can ask for mercy and grace to help us in time of need i find it hard to believe that some of us would choose not to be reconciled and yet the reality is that many individuals live their lives still enslaved still underperforming still subsisting in a low strata of human living disbelieving that they have been not just given they have been restored to the divine image of sons and daughters of god yet individuals unfortunately some of us we choose not to be reconciled and i wonder if it's because we really haven't heard have have we really heard see i don't know i think sometimes what we've heard is you need to live right you need to live holy you've got to obey and i don't want to i don't want to dismiss those things those things are important but notice we're not challenged to be reconciled until we received the announcement that we've been reconciled see the gospel is not telling us what we should become the gospel is stating what we are and giving us an invitation to be it you have been reconciled so be reconciled you have been forgiven so walk forgiven you have been empowered so live empowered you have been loved so loved you have been served so served you have been saved so join my army as ambassadors and let's go out saving what now let's go out reconciling some folk let's put up our juneteenth flags and let's put on our black power t-shirts and let's stoke up the grill and let's have a picnic and a party and a celebration let's announce to the world that you've been reconciled and let's invite somebody to experience the freedom of the sons and daughters of god let's extend the announcement as far as the habitable globe will go let's let the world know not that jesus saves but that jesus has already saved and let's invite people to be reconciled to experience the joy of living a life of love in jesus christ let's be ambassadors who invite people based upon what jesus has already done ambassadors who invite people to experience what we are experiencing what's next let's invite the world to be reconciled in order to invite the world to be reconciled we got to be reconciled we need to hear the good news that jesus has already dealt with the sin problem sin is no longer the problem the problem is our choosing to respond and trusting him to reconcile even the be reconciled it's interesting the be reconciled imperative is passive you you be reconciled let him reconcile you let him change your mind let him change your heart let him change your life and once we experience that reconciliation we will become an army that joyfully goes out as ambassadors inviting others to be reconciled as i pray a prayer thanking god for reconciliation and asking god to move us by his spirit to be reconciled and then requesting of god that we might become an army going out to reconcile if you want to be a part of either of those moves maybe you want to to accept the good news that jesus has already reconciled maybe you want to acknowledge that a reconciliation needs to occur with you or maybe you want to become a part of this church that is a ministry going about sharing the good news you put on the chat in whatever platform you're in youtube facebook you either say i want to thank god that i've been reconciled or you say i want to i want to be reconciled or you say i wanna share the good news i wanna invite others to be reconciled you put whatever your response is and the team at the church will be happy to partner with you so that you can experience the freedom that god envisioned let's pray together dear heavenly father lord we are so thankful that in the councils of heaven you loved us so much that you proclaimed our emancipation you considered no tab too costly but you chose to pay with your life and we say thank you we thank you that you did for us what we could not do for ourselves we couldn't reconcile we couldn't restore we couldn't we couldn't change ourself and if you were against us we definitely couldn't change you we don't have enough righteousness to be able to to to create a change in you god but praise god your character of love is such that you didn't need to be changed because you loved the world you gave and you reconciled you did everything necessary so that humanity and humanity's creator could be on one accord but out of respect for our freedom the freedom that puts us in the image of god you don't force a reconciled state upon us takes two parties to reconcile so you invite us to be reconciled but i'm praying that we will live consistent with what already exists allow us to live out the reconciliation that you have already established and then father send us as messengers ministers of reconciliation not telling people what they got to do but telling people the good news of what you have already done father i'm praying that you will transform brinkleo into an army of soldiers who go out sharing the good news that we've been reconciled thank you jesus thank you lord in the name of jesus we pray amen my my my pastor fordham uh this deserves a lobby conversation from us it's that kind of message that is after we have been blessed by the word of god those that are on screen respond to what we have heard uh i can't tell you first of all thank you thank you on behalf of all of us for lifting the gospel out of second corinthians 5. thank you for that thank you for the good news that you have presented to us i i'm still stuck on good news versus good advice uh you know there were so many things that you said in today's message that resonated with us and you may not see this but on the youtube chat there are over 160 plus respondents individuals who are blessed who receive this ministry of reconciliation right you just you just freed us you challenged us you encouraged us uh you allowed the good news to bless us and we can't thank you enough and for those who are still listening i know this is a sermon that will be played over and over again and shared with hundreds of people it is that profound and and again we we thank you and i know that we're pressing on but i just i got to do an audible right here i just think it is necessary it is necessary for our pastoral team that is here to give at least a 30-second response before we close out it it is that rich my family is blowing up my text messages uh you know you have you have reached us and come off your mics in 30 seconds just let's just let the man of god know how god used him to speak to us today who's going to go first we got to do it we're going to pass it's not a lobby we're just going to get through it and we're going to pray doc i was going to text you and say man let's do a two-minute lobby because i was over here about the bus puck listen man i just want to affirm the word of god you don't just have a gift but you are a gift to the body thank you for the the focus on the gospel and the reality of the fact that when you said maybe we haven't heard the gospel and i i agree with that so much we've had you and i many conversations about this whole thing of the gospel and i think what most people have heard are individuals brand of the gospel that is not the gospel thank you for focusing us on the good news of the gospel that we can walk in this life amen praise god praise god i want to say pastor here's what here's what struck me most about your presentation today the simplicity of it um it's right there but the excitement of it too because i'm reconciled i want to do something amen i want to go out i want to reach somebody i want to help i want what can i do how can i help what can i do i want to share it's exciting amen simple if he would just be willing to accept it amen amen ellis you're on you got two seconds and claudia's gonna close us out okay the question is you know how can i be saved you're already saved all you have to do is accept it's real it's real simple not looking for god god is looking for you yes yes amen amen then we'll go back to pastor fordham and then i'll close yeah that that i won't repeat everything everybody else said but man that was a word i think the thing that struck me the most unsurprisingly was your correlation between the union army soldiers that go and declare hey you you are free like this is your condition based on the news and and so just the idea that we have the opportunity to be those union soldiers and to just go out and say y'all we are free from sin this is not anything that we've got to continue to do there's news uh so man just such a powerful word praise the lord maybe we need to change the title to black union soldiers i don't know i don't know but man i i praise god uh elder mello you dr miller you know what it's like when you are and and pastor noah when you are asking god to give you a word and and you are praying that his word will come forth and when you hear things like the gospel simple clear then it's an answer to prayer motivating you know so i i am thankful and and i and i do agree with you noah i i think that we've heard a lot of well-intentioned stuff i'm not sure that we've really heard the gospel and it's it it's a balanced thing you know the gospel is not you know it we're not universalists and don't let me preach it again but we're not universalists we're not believing that that everybody's going to be saved against their will but we we also are not legalists who think we have to achieve this thing no we have been reconciled and we now have the opportunity to live reconcile do you want you want to live reconcile great you're in believe it accept it receive it amen amen as we prepare to transition for sabbath school just a couple of the things based upon what you heard today you you heard how black theology intersects with the good news of the gospel i want to make sure you clearly heard what black theology is in the context of christ in scripture that's what pastor fordham preached today that's the message that's the contextual message that speaks to our people that's been absent and so much of academia and and adventist scholarship you heard it correctly uh put us in the right perspective today i can't let that pass so thank you pastor fordham for that also before we pray we also want to remind you as we reiterate our business meeting that is coming up uh on one next wednesday we want you to register to be a part of that you heard the announcements over and over again you must register but we want our members to participate please take the time to do that and after we pray sabbath school uh is taking place we want you also to transition to continue to enjoy our sabbath school especially the context of covenant uh so continue to enjoy that thank you pucky for just blessing us uh blessings on you thank you for sharing us the history of the of your name and your boy's name that was also powerful and rich to all of us just thank you may god continue to cover you you and your family and bless you in your next frontier of ministry i'll continue to be a voice in adventism you are making a difference and we value we love you and we celebrate god's goodness on you you know that brinkleo is always a place that supports you you can always come and be a part of us and uh thank you for your relationship to pastor noah washington he is making the difference here for us as you know also so we praise god for you and all of our team members let us pray as we uh conclude this portion of our sabbath experience father in heaven in the name of jesus you have blessed us what now now that we know that we are reconciled lord help us to receive the gift already done and lord make us ambassadors to liberate and to let others know they are also freed uh so bless us god i pray may this message uh resonate with us may we regurgitate and live it over and over again uh let it be a part of our dinner conversations uh into our father's day and throughout our next week may this message carry us and keep us and bless us and remind us of what christ has already done for us thank you for the preacher and the preached word thank you for scripture that reveals the truth of the gospel now bless us as we go about this day bless us in sabbath school uh blessed continually lord of the fathers bless each and every father uh during this father's day weekend in jesus name i pray amen and amen god bless you thanks so much for having me
