[Music] hello and welcome to ptz optics live first friday of every month we're bringing you a new live show where we answer your questions we do an awesome giveaway and today we're talking about the ptz optics super joy our brand new ptz camera controller we'd like to start today's show off by showing you the technology in our studio and one of the reasons why is because the super joy plays such an important part of our production this studio we have been working on today that we're in today has three sets and so just quickly wanted to share with you i'm wearing a wireless microphone we have six ptz optics cameras in here one of them is actually a 30x that we'll show today with the optical zoom we've got two auto tracking cameras those cameras you'll see following me around are the simple track 2 cameras we have some static cameras uh the uh zcam models which will show the super joy controlling today um you can see we have that question mark over the super joy it is now released it is now shipping so i'm super excited about that we have a live streaming computer that was built by eastern shore broadcasting and that has an i9 processor inside with some capture cards we've got our producer mike who's switching vmix and we're also using zoom so you can actually join this session via zoom ask questions and be part of the show so with that being said i'm going to go ahead and walk over to our presentation area and you'll see my auto tracking cameras following us i'm a big fan of these auto tracking cameras and what they allow us to do from a production capability and right over here is set number two so we've got three sets and that's why i just wanted to start by mentioning that because there's set number one there's set number two and there's set number three over here and why is that important well in a lot of different production areas a lot of different spaces whether it's a church whether you're a school whether you're a production company in a theater you've got different areas of interest and this is going to be set 3 for us today this is going to be set 2 right here and then over here is going to be set one and the reason why that's important is because the ptz optics super joy is going to allow us to remotely control multiple ptz cameras at the same time to make it easy for us to change scenes so i'm not going to jump into that super quickly i want to do a first just a high level of the super joy tess is here so i want to say hi tess in the in the zoom chat room just to let everybody know you're here you're in the zoom room and you're watching the chat right i am here and watching the chat so feel free to comment we'd love to have you participate in today's show and if you want to join zoom there actually is a link in the description of the youtube uh show that you can fill out a form right there and it will give you the zoom link that is awesome that actually gives them the current zoom link test yeah i updated the form so it the inline message will allow them to join the zoom that's awesome and i know we're gonna get a lot of questions tests so i'm glad you're here you know you're able to answer those questions for everybody as they're coming in so we will be watching the chat but really quickly i just want a high level look at this joystick to get the conversation going we're going to do some live demos and we're going to answer all the questions that come in so first of all this is the super joy right here i want to show the overhead shot for this cam this joystick and i'm just going to quickly go over some of the buttons that is on this joystick so first of all my favorite part is the speeds right here so we've got tilt speed pan speed zoom speed focus speed and preset speed so most of those are pretty intuitive except for preset speed that's the speed at which the camera moves between different presets so for example if i choose camera one and camera one is a 30x camera as i use these buttons in the middle to call presets and store presets i want to show how easy that is so mike's got a really great shot here this is camera one and one thing you'll notice that i want to show in a moment here is that this television is connected to the hdmi output of the super joy so when i click the hdmi output button on the super joy it shows up on a little television and our broadcast engineer stephen haywood is going to show how he's using that in a moment but just high level wanted to mention that because as we're on camera one our video feed changes to camera one if i switch to camera two the video speed switches to camera two but really quickly a ptz preset is when we hit a button and the camera goes to a specific location so what i've done here is i've set up three presets for the three sets that we have and quickly i want to show how easy it is to set a preset so if i zoom this preset in move it a little bit maybe i want it to be right there all i have to do is hold the button down and the preset is saved so that's pretty cool now one of the things that i wanted to show quickly is this is the 30x and what we're going to do is we're going to turn the zoom speed down all the way to the slowest speed and zoom it in just to show how easy it is to pan tilt and zoom at the same time and zoom in real slow and easily there now it's tilting and panning a little faster than it is zooming it's zooming as slow as possible but i didn't touch the pan and tilt speed so i might want to do that if i'm trying to make a really kind of cinematic shot i would turn the pan speed down turn the tilt speed down a little bit there and as i zoom out when i pan let's turn the pan speed even down further turn the pan speed and the tilt speed down quite a lot there now i'm making much slower movements even though i'm fully zoomed in at a 30 x uh the tilt speed's very slow so you can see there now that i'm totally zoomed out the tilt speed is as slow as it can go and a lot of people were asking about that so if i go to camera 7 here which is the camera that's right next to me i'll be able to show that camera off and the tilt speed comes from the joystick the pan tilt and zoom speed so no matter what camera you go to it will remember the pan tilt and zoom speeds of kind of what you're operating on so that really helps you can see a lot of people wanted to know how slowly and how you know smooth can the operation be you can see how slow that pan and tilt can be so it can go very very slow or if we turn up just the pan for example it can go you know quite fast now it is variable as well so if i slow down how much i'm holding it it will go slow and if i move it up it will go faster but the important part is the maximum speed is set by the speed dials here now the big dials over here are for focus and zoom so i have the ability to zoom with these dials over here quickly and easily and that's for that fine tune adjustment where you need a little bit more control there we have a lot of color balancing options here you'll see here we have iris and shutter speed and gain and all the white balancing options over here we have an area for operating the on-screen display menu which is an important part of this product and then the other thing i wanted to mention is the basic modes and the matrix modes these are really cool the basic mode will restrict all of the color matching and more advanced features just down to presets and ptz control and then basic two we'll do um so basic one is just presets and then basic two is not even joystick control just or sorry let me say this correctly basic one is joystick and presets basic two is just presets and then the matrix mode which is one of my favorite modes that mode allows you to simply and easily to see if you go out of basic mode go into matrix mode control three cameras with three presets now another thing i wanted to show quickly is how nicely it looks on a smartphone so we have the ability to operate matrix mode and i don't know how well that's showing up there might be it looks good um so we have the ability to control uh multiple different cameras with presets and you can choose the camera you want to control in presets and matrix mode these were designed for smartphones so if your smartphone is on the same local area network or wi-fi as the joystick you can just walk away from the joystick and still remain control now this part of it here i'm going to actually ask stephen haywood our broadcast engineer to go over the uh actual ip interface for configuring this device in a moment there was one more uh just in my live demo section of this before we get i know q a is really where we should spend the time here but there's another camera that is really cool a lot of people might not know about this this is the ptz optics eptz cam and this camera is only 4.99 it has two sdi outputs but it doesn't have any optical zoom but the cool thing is is it has a 4k image sensor and this camera can actually be operated like a ptz camera so if i go to this is my camera 6 here if i leave matrix mode and go back to cam 6 i have the ability to operate this camera like a ptz camera because it has a high resolution 4k sensor so it has no moving parts it has a 5 year warranty doesn't have any motors or robotics so it's super rugged and you can operate it just like a ptz camera so i just thought that was kind of cool it doesn't have a ton of digital zoom you can actually add more but i have it restricted down to about 3x because just to maintain the resolution so i wanted to show that off what else do we need to show mike before i hand it over to stephen to show the interface is that it all right let's hand it over to stephen stephen how you doing today i'm doing well paul how are you i am doing great thank you for being here i wanted to give you the stage for a minute to talk about how you're using the super joy and show off the interface and a few of the ways that you've been playing around with it no absolutely and i've i've had the uh the privilege to work with a bunch of different joysticks over my broadcasting career and i have to say this is probably the easiest one to set up and i think you guys will really enjoy this so let's take you over to the interface right now so as paul alluded to the interface is very very simple to navigate as you can see right now uh there's a bunch of different options at the top you have devices control matrix modus ball alluded to custom settings we'll kind of look at each one of these very quickly uh group one is what i have because right now i'm only utilizing in my studio area six ptz cameras uh so i have my ip addresses in here and you could simply to add your camera before you have to go through the joystick and you can still do that but i found it easier just to click on the modify button go in here and add since channel one what camera i wanted to add via the ip address and that's simple click save which i'm not gonna do right now and you'll have access on your joystick to those cameras that you input it's it's really that simple um moving on if you if you have additional cameras let's say you're not limited to six you can set up multiple groups and as paul alluded to you can go into the control on the joystick and select which group you want to pull those cameras from now toggling over here to the control this is what he had showed you on his smartphone you can see i'm not gonna spend a lot of time with there because he actually showed that as well as the matrix mode which i agree paul i i do like matrix mode when i'm running it from a smartphone let's take a look here a little bit at this feature this is one that i'm very very excited about and this is a trigger option so right now i have my tricaster set up to receive http commands but you can set it up to do uart tcp udp or the super preset which paul's going to get to you can see here i have a trigger setup for volume on this is a simple http command that i have set up as a macro inside the tricaster and i'm gonna demo that custom two is volume on custom three is gonna be a lower third that we're gonna trigger and i'll get to that here in a little bit so you can set it add up to pull your your triggers settings here is where you're going to access all your information as far as dns goes host netmask all that good stuff uh upgrade your firmware users and this also has the ability to import and export your settings so you can save them and back them up to your computer or to a cloud cloud service so let's take you now over to my tricaster slash super joy setup because i want to demonstrate that http command so you guys can actually see how this works with the with the volume control now you can see in the tricaster i have a bunch of blue meters bouncing up and down for volume i could simply hit the the custom two which is my volume button and you're gonna see it's grayed out in preview on the screen but you can see program has completely turned off if i press custom one that turns my audio back on and if you didn't see that very good i'm gonna hit custom three and you're gonna see a lower third pop up right right behind uh the lower third that they've got on the screen there and if i press it again you'll see it vanish behind that so there is a lot of flexibility with this uh to be able to control it not just from other http sources but having the ability to quickly and easily as you're manipulating your camera to toggle on in my opinion having that ability for audio on and off when you're triggering videos and things right here while you're operating the control deck is is phenomenal and i like to have that lower third trigger because sometimes if i'm operating and i'm working with volunteers having that ability to override if they forgot to trigger it and i'll give you the example if i decide to go to say my input 4 which is which is this right and i have a lower third on if i trigger that lower third if i go back here that lower thirds over top i don't want that on there somebody forgot to turn it off that's okay i just hit the button on the super joy now i've overridden that so now we can demonstrate the web interface uh to folks so uh paul there's a lot of versatility with this that uh users can use especially with the http triggers as well as different uh custom buttons that they can set up so getting a couple questions up based on what you've shown and i want to talk about the the custom buttons because that's what no other joystick has out there right now uh that's right one of the things i want to touch if you can show your your your interface one more time i want to show the difference between an http trigger and a super preset to answer jj mustang's question about matrix mode can it move all the cameras at the same time or is it limited to just two cameras matrix mode if you want to just click that real quick stephen and then we'll get to his question matrix mode is designed to really be an easy way to control three cameras three presets for three cameras so it's super simple you know for a church for a volunteer for someone who just has simple simple controls three cameras at the same accessible at the same time three presets now if you go to the custom buttons i want to show the difference between an http trigger and a super preset so the http trigger the cool thing about this is there's a million things you can control you can control a tricaster you can control vmix you can control obs you can control multiple things at multiple times you can control ptz cameras you can control lighting system you can advance the slide in pro there's so many things you can do if you hit that plus button steven what can happen is you can continue to add more and more http triggers and you can add a delay so you can have a camera switch and then five seconds later show a lower third and then 10 seconds later do an outro video so very uh flexible from an http triggering system but steven let's go to the super preset area so in the drop down menu under http we hit super preset what this is designed to do is take those cameras you already have programmed to control inside of the super joy and control them all with the single button and i was talking to tom sinclair actually from eastern shore broadcasting about this on wednesday let's say you're a theater or you're a church or you're any place that has two or three cameras what happens when you operate those cameras a couple different times during a show well they all change locations so it's really nice to have a single button to press to be able to then send all the cameras back to a known location whether it's the startup for your church service or a theater so let me show you how i have our super presets set up stephen so we as i mentioned earlier we have three sets so to make mike's life easier we've got about six to eight cameras in the studio as i change sets mike can automatically switch all the cameras to where they're going so i set this up for you know basically set one two and three and just to show you that with a single click of a button we can control up to seven cameras and we can also initiate an http command so for example if there's a scene change you can switch up to seven cameras and tell vmix to fade to a specific um outro video or just fade to a specific preset i mean there's a million things you can do but i think those custom buttons i just want to demonstrate that really open up the doors for people to get creative we were talking to epiphan earlier today and we can control the epiphan pearl we can control a crestron control system we can control uh led lighting systems so the sky's the limit with what you guys can control out there so we'd love to hear what you guys would like to control with the super joy and we're happy to help you figure out what the api commands are because you can do http tcp udp and uart so you got a lot of options for controlling all kinds of devices you demonstrated earlier about the tv connected to your your uh super joy and i was going to show folks if it's all right the screen that i have hooked up so you don't need to go to a big tv if you don't want to um i actually installed a seven inch tv that's well it's a screen right here on my desktop and i'm gonna go to a split box here mike um to demonstrate this that uh you can have just a little screen right in front of you as a self producer i need to be able to see a camera so i can just in the super joy just impress any of these buttons and see my cameras and manipulate them any way that i need to i don't have a camera on that one but you can see i can adjust any one of these simply on the super joy not need to know the ip not need to know the friendly name and be able to adjust my camera quickly um even if somebody else is operating the tricaster or vmix or whatever it is that you're doing and uh oh i think that flexibility is tremendous well i really like that and that's where i feel like we should open it up to q a because we've really shown a lot of what this joystick can do and uh tess if you're here i'd love to open it up to q a to echo what you just said steven you can set this joystick up anywhere in your facility if you've got lots of cameras on your network you can easily see exactly what the video is and control those cameras other without that with every other joystick basically most other joysticks on the market you need to also have a monitor also have a computer also manage a second way of seeing what you're controlling so that hdmi output's a pretty big deal i would agree so tess uh what are you hearing out there do we have some questions that we could answer while we're here is there anyone in zoom that would like to ask a question possibly we do we've got lots of great questions coming in jeff has four ptz optics cameras but he also has two sonys so is this going to be able to control other brands cameras that's a great question so we support sony which opens up a lot of doors including bird dog and new tech we also support uh that this can control um basically any ptz optics camera and it has the option to switch the port which allows you to pretty nicely control any camera with ip what i didn't mention and stephen we haven't mentioned this a lot is it also can control serial connected cameras and so that is a visca over ip protocol that's been used for very long amounts of time so the super joy for us is the first joystick that can control ip cameras and serial cameras seamlessly switching between the two so whether you have an older serial camera a newer sony camera a bird dog a ptz optics all of those can be mixed together with this joystick it also supports ndi so that also opens up any ndi camera as well well you answered a few good questions there paul so great job with that um but no it doesn't run off wi-fi because that was one other one that we got no does not have wi-fi yeah michael in zoom is asking is there any goal to interact with wirecast and we can loop in vmix and obs and other platforms like that i i would like that um steven uh we looked into it and there was no http command set to control wirecast would you say that's true yeah that's correct until telstra implements a api where we can do http triggers really uh no way to do that currently um now you could use a workaround so wirecast kernel currently allows uh stream deck to be used inside the stream decks configuration you can set up a an http command or something from you know the stream deck and trigger the stream deck from the super joy i know it's kind of a little bit of a work around but you could essentially do it that way uh to trigger things inside of wirecast uh if you so choose to do that if you don't have the stream deck hardware you can subscribe i think i want to say uh a year i think it's like 30 bucks for the year for stream deck so you could essentially do it without having the hardware and and do it through that to make it work um i didn't know that so is there like a wirecast plug-in for for the stream deck or at least there is a wirecast plug-in for stream deck um i don't let me see if i have it on this machine that i was demoing for you guys and if i do have it see it but you can search uh inside the store for wirecast yeah well that's i mean it's good enough just to know that you can do it yeah just search the plug-in area for for wirecast you'll you'll find it cool what else do we got tess all right we've got a few in here how easy is it set up to set up remotely that's a good question um the cool thing about the super joy is that it's really the best joystick we've ever released for remote setup and what i mean by that is you plug the ethernet cable in it's powered over ethernet okay so you plug one ethernet cable in you can plug it into power if you so choose but really just one ethernet cable and then at the very top here it gives you the ip address of the joystick you type that into your computer and boom you can configure it remotely from any computer and that really is the easiest way to configure it wouldn't you say steven yes it 100 i had this set up in i think it took me less than five minutes once i had all the ip addresses i literally just punched them in where other joysticks that i've used it was painstakingly hard to go through each of the menus use the joystick to adjust the ip addresses so i was very pleasantly surprised at how easy this was and get up and going when i switched joysticks out i was so happy that it was so quick the other thing that i like about it is when you're typing in the ip address of the cameras if you're using ptz optics cameras it autofills the rtsp video string which is how the joystick brings the video in and then displays it via hdmi so it's the easiest with ptz optic cameras because everything's pre-configured but if you're using a bird dog or a sony you may need the manual of that camera just to make sure that the port number is correct but we do support the sony protocol which opens up support for like 95 percent of ptz cameras available so if it's got an ethernet port on it or it has a serial port on it you can control it with this with this joystick okay that is good information because we did get another one about another ip camera that i wasn't familiar with so if it has a serial port or an ip port we should be able to at least guarantee the basic pan tilt zoom functionality yeah and check check the manual on the super joy because our team has done a decent job outlining you know the serial connectivity and the ip connectivity options for camera brands outside of ptz optics so check the manual and check the knowledge base our team will pick up the phone and talk you through it as well so give them a call you know call the 1-800 number and they're there to answer your questions what is the cost of this unit uh mike do we have that sidebar we it's 899 and that does include power over ethernet it includes the hdmi video output and i'm seeing a question on the hdmi how does it pull the video yes it is rtsp it is fairly low latency rtsp but it isn't hdmi or sdi quality to answer your question jj mustang but it does include the ability to control um how many cameras can it control steven i think it's seven times six groups of seven um oh he's not he's muted sorry sorry steven yes seven yeah seven times six about 42 roughly 42 cameras into different groups and then the it's got those custom buttons it has its own web server so that web server is what allows what allows you to use your phone or any other um you know ipconnected device to control it um all right paul real quick what if you didn't want me to get into certain areas of the web browser i'm a volunteer and i might mess up some of your settings in there is there anything that we can do to prevent that that's a great question steven would you mind showing the configuration area of the web interface so that we can talk a little bit about that well there was two specific use cases that are in that area stephen that a lot of people have asked me about one is the users as you're seeing there stephen there's the admin user and then you have the ability to add a guest user so uh someone with with restricted access um that can you know not do everything to the unit but at least can kind of get in and do a few things the other thing that if you're in the controller the matrix tab there's a little url button that allows you to copy the url and quickly send it to a smartphone or a tablet so that you can give somebody control over that um specific area um you can see steven doing that just popping it in then that's the matrix control um the other thing steven that matt was telling me about our lead engineer was the the joystick has a usb 2.0 port which allows you to save and upload different profiles so this is a high-end joystick and you may be a video production expert you may want to take this joystick from one space and then set it up in another space and in order to do that you can save and export the um the whole profile and then import it again so if you have one set up in your church and then another set up at a sports arena or a space where something's happening where you have different cameras or a different setup you can quickly import and export those profiles for different areas so great questions look at you stephen even you're asking questions uh what do you think tess how are we doing we're doing great you just got a series of questions about hdmi what's the resolution for the hdmi output um yeah two questions about the resolution and does hdmi out have a multi-view the that's a great question i don't believe that the hdmi output has a multi-view steven it it doesn't have a multi-view and i believe it is 1080p that's going out to the monitor so uh steven that is a great feature request for a version two or a firmware upgrade to have a multi-view option i don't know how that would work unless a new button was added because currently it's c it it's not seamless switching but whatever camera you're controlling it automatically switches the hdmi video output so mike since everyone's asking about that why don't show this little scene i have here uh i do like your trippy little uh you know swirling thing there but you can see right here this is coming out every time i switch the camera it takes about a half a second to a second whenever i hit that switch camera button it switches the video feed so that's the way it's designed i would love to see a multi-view uh open and and and created i would think that would happen in a generation two of this model i don't that is not part of this current joystick um all right tess lots of great questions let's keep them coming if there are any otherwise we can wrap up um what do you use as a preview screen then michael's asking well stephen um oh well that's a good question so so this that is the preview screen right like that literally is the preview screen um it doesn't necessarily it isn't the output of your production uh most likely it is hap it is your preview screen it is showing you what the camera is likely you're moving it before it's live in your production steven's showing his uh great little seven-inch monitor that he's using i think that's such a nice little uh what model is that what what mod monitor are you using stephen this this one is a uh this one here is a marshall and i don't know what it is all the time it's it's a couple years old i got this probably five or six years ago it's made for a dslr um but going back to paul what you were saying about uh the preview you can see my program monitors right here but if i switch the camera to my first camera which is my profile it hasn't interrupted the program but it has changed inside of of there so i can keep it on that camera but i can sit here and go through each of these cameras without even disrupting my preview so this as paul said this is your preview nice i love it um can you split the preview screen or is it only uh full screen it's only full screen uh polo um currently that is a full screen video output of the camera you have selected i love that the ideas got though guys keep them coming great ideas we're always listening to the ideas that you guys have and we're trying our best to build them into uh the product i that seems that maybe it's a firm opportunity in the firmware likely in the hardware because not only are we talking about possibly having an extra hdmi output but also having a um an option to switch between a full screen and a multi-view which would require a new button um but i really like the ideas and you know one of the things we try to do is value engineer so try to this is less than a thousand dollars and adding a few more connectors could increase the price but maybe it won't we'll see so i will be relaying that information back to the engineering team we've got ryan brennaman on facebook saying what would be sick would to be able to control a dji ronin sc gimbal maybe it's possible we'll have to see that would be incredible um you know if we get enough requests for it we'll try to build it in so uh go into the forums and and plus one that feature request because that is a good one okay paulo has the other ptz joystick but the speed feature for the preset isn't working um for this can i preset the speed for the scenes uh yes so so if the uh joystick you have um does not is not able to control the preset speeds the way this joystick is then you can control it on the cameras so the cameras themselves if you go into the osd menu in the ptz settings area you there is an option for adjusting the ptz preset speeds so that may be the solution to your problem it's nicer to have the ability to just switch it right on the joystick which is unique to this joystick as far as i know jim is asking is it possible to change the custom buttons on the fly how difficult would that be um you do need in order to set up and change a custom button you do need to access the on the web browser interface we i will say something we are working on and it has been a feature request is the ability to toggle and access more custom buttons i have no promises on when that's going to happen this joystick has four custom buttons a lot of people want more and i think there are some ways with firmware to to hopefully um add the ability to toggle to switch one through four to four through eight to eight through twelve uh which gives you more buttons we're hoping that's a possibility maybe in a new redesign we'll add more custom buttons but it seems like people want more custom buttons and we're working on some ways with firmware to allow you to toggle through some more options with the four buttons we have and add more in the future so it's definitely an interesting thing we're looking into right now to update the firmware and then on the hardware side you know changing the hardware can take two years so we're trying to work with the firmware we have currently to maybe one year but the firmware we have currently to allow you to access more buttons if you need to update and change a button you have to go to the web interface change it and hit save jack on facebook is i'm i'm imagining this is referring to the cameras if i switch to ip camera control can i still use the sdi video output certainly yeah the sdi video output is totally separate to the ip camera control that we're talking about they work kind of hand in hand really simultaneously is that it tess do we have patrick or something from patrick it's up to you do you want to keep going or yeah well let's try to just do it just go ahead test just do as many as you can okay okay patrick is asking about the documentation uh talks about sony ptz control what's special about about the sony ptz control that we can call out um it really is the fact that it works with sony cameras that's the specialness um to be honest if you're using ptz optics cameras you will get more functionality than any other camera with this joystick and some of the special things is just that every single button will work from iris to shutter speed to blue to red gain to white balance cycling all of that when we say limited ndi and sony control that means you know some buttons on this joystick are specifically designed for ptz optics cameras so the sony camera will work with pan tilt and zoom it'll work with camera presets but it might not work for shutter speed and iris so limited sony and ndi support means you know we've tested pan tilt zoom we've tested presets we've tested a little bit of other functionality but in general it's limited in as far as the more advanced features i think that kind of wraps it up uh for the questions we do have a giveaway today so oh gosh we gotta do the giveaway for that all right tess choose the um choose the giveaway winner and we'll spin the wheel i will and we are continuing to get compatibility with camera questions um it it should work with any camera that has ip or sdi wait wait wait wait wait ip or serial output yes control and serials like rs232 or um rs232 rs485 uh serial control with a lot of
