-He co-stars with Lady Gaga in
his new film, "A Star is Born." It's in theaters this Friday.

Dude, I loved it so much. -Aw, thank you.
-And you were just amazing. And after Gaga -- We all know she can sing,
but she can act. -Oh, man, she's incredible.
-And you guys together. Did you guys know each other?
-No, no. You know, we had met
on "Saturday Night Live," like, in passing years ago. But it's one of those things,
you see somebody, and then you have no idea
like five years from now you're gonna be doing
this crazy thing together. -I mean, this is -- This is a knockout performance
from her, as well. -Yeah, she really brought it. Yeah, I saw her sing
"La Vie En Rose" at this cancer benefit
at Sean Parker's house, and she just decimated the room.
-Yeah. -And that's why
that scene's in the movie. And then I met her at her house
two days later, and we just clicked. I don't know if it's
we're both from the East Coast or the similar background, but it was just
one of those things. You know what I asked her to do? You know, "Midnight Special,"
that folk song? -Yeah. Of course.
-She never heard it before. I was like, "Hey, do you know
this folk song?" She's like, "Nope." And I was like,
"Oh, well, can we sing it?" And she printed up
the sheet music, and there's a piano
in her living room. And we just sang it together just to see if there was,
like, chemistry. And it was just --
She made me feel so comfortable. It was really --
And that was the beginning. And she said,
"Okay, let's do it." -Wow!
-Yeah. -And she has faith in you as --
-She did. You know?
Yes, she did. Yeah. -As a director,
'cause you did such a great job. You know who's fantastic?
Andrew Dice Clay is in this. -Oh, man.
Isn't he great? -He plays her dad,
and he is fantastic. -Did you memorize his tapes
when you were a kid? -"Hickory Dickory Dock"?
-Yeah, yeah, yeah. -I knew everything.
Yeah, absolutely, yeah. -So the idea of asking him
and him doing it was crazy. -But dramatic --
Dramatic acting. -Oh, yeah. But he's always
been a good actor. You know, "Blue Jasmine."
And he's pretty incredible. -I thought that was great.
And then the songs are all new. But you feel like
you've heard them. This song, "Shallow,"
that you guys released, it's currently number 1
on iTunes. -Yeah. It's nuts. -It's the number 1
on Apple, on iTunes. [ Cheers and applause ] ♪♪ You have the number 1 song.
What? You went for it for this. It's so awesome.
You really did it, man. -Yeah.
Mark Ronson was huge with that. -Mark Ronson tweeted out,

for my high school. And there was this guy there who was like the best athlete
in the high school. And he was the nicest guy
in high school. And he was so gifted.
He was the running back. He was the [bleep] And we were at this --
[ Laughter ] He was very good. -Yeah, good.

Yeah. -So I'm there at a house,
like, in this -- and it was our 20-year reunion. And he was pretty inebriated. And he was looking at me like
I'd never seen him look before. And he was like --
"How did that happen, Brad?" [ Laughter ] And I was like, "Wait. What?
How'd what happen?" "You know, like, freshman year." -He's the nicest guy.
-Yeah. He's like, "I --
How'd that happen, Brad?" [ Laughter ] I was like, "I don't know.
I don't know." "No, but how'd that happen?" -I worked hard!
That's how it happened! That's how it happened.
-And then I saw him, and it was funny
to think about that. But, yeah, you never know. [ Laughter ] How people are gonna react.
