this was the event of the year this is the one young airport I'd want so much money I thought I was worth a fortune then the balance for the blog is good to go this is part of being in the territory and part of being Australian Oricon I'll be naughty it feel right if somebody will lift me up [Laughter] [Applause] [Music] thrills spills and just old-fashioned fun [Music] it's a one event on the social calendar that brings this little town near the Gulf of Carpentaria to learn the annual Bora Lula rodeo and Campdraft it's where the hats are big and the competitors start small I think it's the most a special Outback meet of anywhere in Australia it really is the true territory [Music] Barolo lays a place rich in history once the center of the burgeoning Gulf and Berkeley pastoral district some stations were established as far back as the 1800s and that's meant a ready supply of young jackaroo sand dill aru's came to stop up for a weekend of provola tea and fierce and friendly competition this was the event of the year this is the one you hung up for and when it was over there was nothing else the rodeo has been going for more than 50 years old time residents bill and CeCe bright remembered well it was where their love story began and where she was the one to beat on the women's field back in those days to win a flag race or a bending race I think was $50 and that was ahead Stockman's wage in those years I'd won so much money I thought I was worth a fortune then Tony topcoats also has fond memories she spent 14 years managing a local cattle station with her husband but admits when her young family first logged into burro Lula she was dubious oh my god I just thought it was like the boondocks on the road to hell to nowhere because it's a long ways no Donuts it's a pretty spectacularly tough country and at this time of year it's pretty dry and harsh but within weeks that once we came to the rodeo we fell in love with the place while plenty have relocated elsewhere over the years there are also steadfast locals who have never missed a meet Patsy shad falls grew up on 7mu station and has been competing since she was 10 I prefer the good old days like this some of them crazy I got thrown a couple of times in the ring doing crazy things but when you're 16 or 17 it doesn't matter now in her 60s she's not hanging up the reins any time soon I mean I did feel riding if somebody will lift me up local rose curve is pretty much seen it all as a long-serving rodeo caller and former club president it's good to keep it keep a gun otherwise said it will die and I say this is part of being in the territory and part of being Australian Oregon for alula rodeo is still going strong with solid nominations and the campdrafting and of course crowd favorites full and grow Friday [Applause] [Music] they were plenty of lows in the search the elusive bull riding high apparently old just spotted the fun spero rustling that's a bit you can forget for the maid but that's just over fun although if I'm 20 starts sort of yeah get that get that run down you on their adrenaline through the blood and you're good to go [Music] it's not hard to see the borough Loula rodeo is deeply inclusive and always has been definitely an important part of what makes it so special yeah that's good to see here this is like it's 99% of them as indigenous rodas and it's really good to even a younger generations are coming up now so when we're all the old fall is getting driven around the arena well we'll be watching them you know this event is one for the ages that many want to see kicking well into the next 50 years bolo is very very unique and I'd like to see it go forever because people are happy just everyone's happy to come and mix and see everybody you haven't seen for six months or 12 months or even longer it gives people a reason to get out of bed in the morning if they're gonna ride their horse they've got a reason to get up we all need a reason to get up especially when you get older [Music]
