okay sorry Hey, hi,hello . Welcome or welcome back to my channel . My name is Jess and this is Nigel and I know this is a really weird setup, thank you thank you. This
video is going to be really weird. So when I filmed this yesterday there was nothing that had popped off bookish wise besides some book reviewers/bookstagrammers showing their ass and and showing they're
trump supporters but I wasn't going to spend my time on that. Then I filmed my video and it was
really just like a skincare and discussion video and then last night some people sent me this
thread of tweets about something that happened with an author, I was like well damn i've gotta
include that so there's gonna be some different, you're gonna see here, you're seeing my bathroom and you're gonna see in my book room so it's gonna be kind of patched together. No Nigel, don't eat
my chair. So i'm just gonna edit this in wherever it fits. So I hope you still enjoy uh this week's
episode of book commuiTEA. I love my dog but he's chaotic so Ihad to put him to the side . So i'm
just i'm using my laptop for the tweets so I don't get it wrong here. Okay so the tweets that
were sent to me were about an author named Joan He who's the author of Descendant of the Crane.
So Descendant of the Crane is a Y.A. fantasy that was released under Albert Whitman and Company last year, so April 9, 2019. So the author stated "As of writing this, I am one step away from filing suit
against the publisher for copyright infringement." So they said "Back in May they failed to pay me
my royalties on time. My agent followed up with them repeatedly, we gave them the benefit
of the doubt due to Covid, we allowed them all the time that they were contractually
owed and then some to rectify this breach. So in August when the publisher remained
in breach, we notified them that the rights to publish the book had reverted back to me
per clause in my contract but this means the publisher legally can no longer sell the books. Not the ebooks, not the hardbacks. Anything already in print has to be withdrawn from shelves. Anything not yet published, this included the paperback paperback edition, can't be published without
violating my copyright. For the reader and me this essentially means the book goes out of print. Yeah it sucks big time but the only thing worse than books going out of print is not knowing if and when you'll be paid by your publisher." So I didn't know in 2020, I can't believe that this
is happening that an author had to take to Twitter because their publisher isn't paying them. So
they also said "As a last resort, I hired a lawyer. We sent the publisher a cease and desist on
September 24th and gave them 30 days to comply. They have not complied. Which brings me to this, should this go to court, I am almost certain to win. The case is clear but i'm not vindictive. I don't
want to drag the publisher through this or myself. Emotionally, mentally and financially the
last six months have been hard enough." So they tagged "Albert Whitman if you
see this please comply with a cease and desist. Please acknowledge the reversal of rights, withdraw the copies on shelves and warehouses and stop printing, distributing and selling the book. Please give me the time of day and do the right thing." How how is this happening in 2020? That you have to take to Twitter to try and have like a civil conversation with your own publisher about the
rights to your book? This is outrageous, I cannot believe that. They did add in "Final notes on how to help." Um they said "All of the above is vetted by my legal counsel so feel free to share and spread the word it would help greatly. In terms of what will be happening with Descendant of the Crane, my agent and I are working hard to re-home it. If you really need a copy, I recommend going for my UK publisher." And there's a link and i'll have this tweet thread linked in the description. So they said "In the
meantime i'm really grateful to be with Macmillan now." So that's great, "pre-ordering my book with them
would truly be the best show of support especially when nothing with Descendent of the Crane's future is certain." So there's a different book linked and it says The Ones We Were Meant To Find um uh oh a sci-fi fantasy and that's under Macmillan so they have that linked. "Thank you for reading this so
far, we'll keep you posted on how everything goes." Um "And just to clarify something, after we notified Albert Whitman that the rights had reverted back to me, they immediately paid the outstanding
royalties and they keep on citing this as the reason why they can't agree to release my rights. Sorry but that's not how contracts work." so at least they paid the outstanding royalties, so that
is- oh my gosh, i'd be so pissed and I understand not wanting to go to court or be vindictive but at
this point I would, i'd take their asses to court but I know that costs money. Um someone so Wesley Chu replied "hi sorry to see you're going through this. I'm just curious is the publisher delinquent
on all royalties are they just paying late?" And Joan said "they were late and stopped replying to
emails asking them where the royalties were. We invoked a clause in the contract that
explicitly says the rights revert back to me if they don't pay within a certain number
of days and they immediately paid but too late." That is outrageous um so someone said
"please don't feel 'vindictive' if you go to court because you're absolutely in the right
and it may be the only way they'll listen." That's what I feel but Joan said "Litigation would
take a year and be a lot of money." So even if she you know they were feeling vindictive that's
going to cost a lot of money which is so royally fucked, god that is fucked. Um someone did suggest "if you haven't already, have your lawyer reach out directly to Amazon with proof that the copyright
for your book lies with you and not the publisher, just bypass them completely in that case." And
they said "i'll let my lawyer know." So I don't know if um if you let Amazon know directly, would they have to pull the books like from their website? That's what what I'm guessing. So I wonder if a book was sold now, would that money just go to Albert Whitman and Joan wouldn't see any of
it? Because oh that is so, that is so rude. So i'm going to have this linked down in the description
and a link directly to the new book with Macmillan: um The Ones We're Meant To Find, I think that might not be out until next year if i'm correct this says May 4, 2021 but you can definitely pre-order
that i'm sure that would definitely help them since if this looks like this could be a long
journey, if, you know Albert Whitman doesn't comply they might have to go to court. Wow it's just awful and of course there's just a lot of support from authors and readers um and tagging Albert Whitman, so obviously all we can do is if you want the book uh pre-order Descendant of the Crane or
you can order a Descendent of the Crane from the UK. We can pre-order the new book: The Ones We're Meant to Find, that's with Macmillan and share and tag Albert Whitman and call their
asses out. This is ridiculous how fucking shady. Ugh, what is up with publishing this year? Publishing
seems to be losing their fucking minds, it's just shady shit left and right and i'm
not here for it, it's fucking garbage and oh that's awful. So please share this um you know tweet about it, tweet Albert Whitman and hopefully hopefully the attention will make them um boss up and handle their shit how they're supposed to, so that hopefully Joan doesn't have to take this
to court because how fucking shitty but if you know anything more about publishing or anything more on the situation, definitely leave it in the comments, I would appreciate it. And now a random transition to my bathroom for my skincare routine. My face does look really ashy because I had this thick
sunscreen on uh before I took a shower so don't mind that okay? Thank you, bye. Hey yeah this is a really weird video angle, you're in my bathroom but I said this is on instagram the other day. I had like two
people ask for my skincare routine. So I was like "i'm basically an influencer" and i've
got to give the people what they want. You know people are always like 'so many people have been asking' literally it was two and I already wanted to do this video, so that was motivation enough. So i'm going to go through my daytime skincare routine but I also wanted to
talk about a couple things that came up in my last video of the unpopular opinions um just a little
further discussion. o before I start, I do want to say i'm obviously not a dermatologist, i'm not an
esthetician, i'm not a skin care guru, this is just from years of sampling and trying things out
because that's kind of what you have to do with skin care, sadly. You kind of have to try and
see what works for you and what doesn't um and my recommendation would be don't try a bunch of whole new products at once because you won't be able to tell what and what doesn't work. So maybe introduce one new product at a time so you can see you know if that causes you any irritation
or if it doesn't give you any improvement but other than that, again i'm not professional
this is just what I have found works for me and I apologize if this um this setup isn't the best. I
am using my front facing camera just so I can see but i'm not going to stay in here
the whole time. I'm just going to do this and then i'm going to go in front
of my shelves to finish the discussion. So, yes here we go um. On a normal morning, if I
were just to get up and go to the gym or I go into the grocery store, i'm not going to wash
my face because I put a bunch of stuff on at night. So I would normally just do micellar water. I just
have the Simple one just like on a cotton pad, wipe off my face and then do a little bit of
moisturizer and sunscreen, that's what all I would do because i'm not going to wash my face, go to the gym, wash my face again. I only wash twice a day so today though, I already went on a walk with Nigel, it was long and sweaty. I just took a shower and so i'm actually going to wash my face but I just
want to let you know about that a quick option. But so i'm going to start with a wash.
I used to wash my face in the shower, I have learned over the last year that you
shouldn't use super hot water on your face because I shower in molten lava so I don't wash
my face in the shower anymore um and I just do lukewarm water even, though it pains me. So i'm
gonna wet my face really quick and be right back. So, I my face is wet and i'm using this CeraVe
renewing cleanser and it uses a salicylic acid. So I just use a little bit of this and then I rub
it in for 60 seconds and let me see the time okay. So on my video in the comments one of
the biggest uh replies or the most okay, one thing that people replied the most about was about the trigger warnings. So one of the unpopular opinions was that they don't want trigger warnings on books and most people in the comments disagreed as did I, um saying that I would have no issue
with trigger warnings. I personally don't need them but if someone else does, I don't mind and
I have seen a couple of books have it like in the beginning, you know the beginning pages where
there's like the dedication. But in the comments some great discussion came up about like how we go about it. Who, who would get trigger warnings? Like it needs to be like uniform and not just you know
picking and choosing or or calling out certain authors and I thought that was an excellent
question because there's really not some like huge governing body over like publishing to my
knowledge um. Oh I think that was a minute, wow when you're talking that goes a lot faster. All right
i'm gonna pause and i'm gonna rinse this off. Now I know in the commercials people are splashing water but I get water everywhere, so I use a microfiber cloth to rinse off my face, you know whatever.
It's probably not right but that's what I do. I think the cloth is also helpful around edges. I
know some people don't want to like mess up their hair or mess with their edges, I don't care .
So I especially like to get in there um and depending on the sunscreen I wear,
sometimes it like gets caught in my hairline and I get a lot of little
pimples up there, so don't forget your hairline. So I didn't dry my whole face, it's still pretty damp. I was not crying, I was putting eye drops because my eyes are the most sensitive things on the planet,
it's so irritating. So after I cleanse in the morning then i'm going to tone. So I used to use a witch
hazel for a toner and I also learned um that that is very drying or any alcohol-based toner. So now, I use a hydrating toner. This one is from Paula's Choice and it is the Enriched Calming Toner. Wow, I'm sorry, my timer went off because I had my RedBull in the freezer um I have like
a certain time, i've timed it perfectly, where i put it in the freezer
and it becomes like slushy. 37 minutes oh my god. So good, this little Brumate thing that's
like a skinny can koozie um okay sorry. Anyway, I was saying I have combination skin. I
just came up the stairs, I'm sorry, I can't catch my breath. So my t-zone is very oily, and the rest of my face it's very dry. So I do use the dry, very dry um from Paula's Choice. There are so many options. I love this brand, it is a little more pricey but the great thing is you can get so many things in a sample or travel size, like you could get a little size like this um a little sample of a mask even
just like little packets like this. So it's a great way to try out products and not spend a whole
bunch of money because that's my thing is like, something costs $20-30 to me that's a lot of money and I would like to try it first to see if it works. So anyway, after I wash, I tone. So I just pat it in like this my face and I always include my neck. I wash my neck, every all the steps that I
do on my face, I do on my neck because you know people out here getting face lifts and botox all
this stuff on their face and their neck is really really giving away their secrets. But then in the
daytime, I use this hyaluronic acid wait sorry i'm no beauty guru what do they do like this? No this, hyaluronic acid serum just more hydration. know I should probably be using the Vitamin C as well
but i'm not and I think a common misconception can be if you have oily skin or parts of your
skin are oily, to not use hydrating uh products and that is very false because you still need
to hydrate. So I still use, I don't use like this only on the dry parts of my face, I do
it all. So I use this one um day and night but okay and then I tone again, just lock it in
that hydration. Yes i'm gonna be careful because obviously you're supposed to keep everything
away from your eyes but i'm just really clumsy and I feel like even if anything gets like in the
perimeter my eyes like to act up so there's that and then after toning I just use this
Daily Moisturizing Lotion from CeraVe. Right now because it's not too cold my face
isn't too dry, I do have the moisturizing cream that is heavier so when it gets colder i'll
switch to that but for now this one works for me. And like I said face and neck probably, could even do more down here do you call it your décolletage, decolletage or décolletage, I don't know. It's
something French and fancy but um yeah there's that and lastly in the daytime: sunscreen. Yes even
us Black and brown people need sunscreen. um I think you need, they recommend at
least 35, 30 and it has been proven that if you're not putting on the accurate
amount, that you're decreasing the SPF. So like if I only put on half the
amount I should, i'm really only getting 25. This is my favorite that I have found. Ialso
like I love Neutrogena's Hydroboost line and I also like this, I just haven't been able to find it
here higher than 30 but it's very light, it's more of a gel consistency. Even my husband who hates sunscreen um says this one he can't really feel it when he puts it on and then I also was trying
to get a higher SPF and I thought this one was the same and this one's 70. So this is
protect and hydrate sunscreen and this one is the same but it says lotion, so this one is way
thicker and it leaves a cast on my face like I try to wipe it in but it's it still leaves a cast
So, I really only use this one if i'm at home and i'm not going to like be filming or anything
because it's a definite, you can definitely tell especially like around my hairline but you should
wear sunscreen. The rule is two fingers worth, so I do like, i don't do my whole finger, I do like
this much, two fingers worth and that's supposed to be your face and neck but and you're supposed to reapply every two hours, even if you're indoors. Unless it's night time or like you got black out
blind and no light is getting in. I know people hate that, I hated it too but I am now doing it. So
this one for me first goes on a little white but with a little blending in- and my eyes have been
like extra sensitive to this sunscreen lately so i've got to be careful to not get
it really close to my eye but- yeah rub it in, get those ears, but yeah this well
obviously sunscreen protection from the sun and especially if you are Black or brown and
you have hyper pigmentation um not wearing sunscreen is just gonna make that worse. So you can be doing all these treatments, all this exfoliating and mask but if you're not wearing
sunscreen, you're not helping yourself, you're just like doing all that extra work for nothing.
So wear it, hey the great thing now is this winter so you don't have to reapply it as much because
here it starts getting dark at 4:45, so i'm like don't have to reapply but yeah this
one blends in really good for me. um really unless you're white, it's sometimes
going to be a a trial and error trying to find the right sunscreen that works for you um I
know there are some other ones that are supposed to be really good but they're expensive
and I think this is like $8 for three ounces. So there are brands like Super Goop , Glossier um other brands that have ones that are supposed to be really good and translucent, that
blend in well especially with brown and black skin but they are this size or smaller and they're
like $20, $30, $40- no. With the amount that you should be wearing of sunscreen, I just can't afford that.
So I am good with the Aveeno or the Neutrogena, which is $10 for that bottle and that's
it . I'm gonna keep pushing but yeah that's it. So that's it in the morning and then I always
put on chapstick but if i'm upstairs and it's not right here, I just use a CeraVe healing ointment
that I use at night on my face, I just put a little bit on my lips because it's predominantly
petroleum jelly, so that vaseline, that's it. So i'm gonna move into my book room so we can continue this discussion because I kind of got off track. Hopefully you can see me okay. So we were talking about trigger warnings. So I think the question is how would it be done uniformly? Because when Ninth House came out, I remember a lot of people um were talking about this book needing trigger warnings
because of the content and people brought up the great point of authors like Stephen King or just
in general men have books like this all the time and no one's ever asking them to put a trigger
warning on their books. So it just definitely would need to be fair and I don't know who would control that and like would one publisher do it and another wouldn't? So there's a lot of questions and then another great comment was who determines what is a trigger and what isn't? To me, when I
just think of trigger warnings: I think of sexual assault, um obviously rape, self-harm, suicide, harm of a child but there are so many more that trigger other people um just even talk of depression or a mental illness, divorce, loss of a parent, there's so many things that could trigger people. So I don't
know how you would determine what's a trigger and determine what you think you need to make
readers aware of. Like I think someone suggested something general like "the content in this book
might trigger people" but I guess that's too general. Then if there's some things that trigger
you and some that don't, I don't know, it's it brought up a lot of great questions and
i'm glad that people were discussing it with me because there was a lot of stuff I didn't
think about. Also where would it go? This is kind of a smaller issue but I wouldn't want like on the
front of the book like trigger warning. I think um inside like where I saw one for was it get a Take
A Hint, Dani Brown, I think had it like you know you open the pages there's a title, the publication stuff, dedication and I think on a page like that if it said trigger warnings for you know anxiety
or whatever. So I think something like that but yeah it's it's a unique question. I don't know,
who do you bring it up to even if it's something that people really wanted to get started? Like
you just email all the publishers? You like cc all the publishers to tell them like we want
trigger warnings? So I just wanted to expand on that because I thought it was interesting and
people brought out some great some great topics um because say it was a book a publishing wide
thing, maybe Macmillan only considered suicide, sexual assault, self-harm as triggers and then
maybe another publishing group maybe Bloomsbury includes more? So I think it's definitely difficult.
I know there is a website, i'll have to find it. I feel like someone started a website where they
are updating trigger warnings for books and I don't know how many they have on there i'll
have to find that and let you know. So I don't, I don't know. I try when i'm talking about
talking about a book to remind myself to give people triggers um i'm reviewing it, it's just
harder because I don't necessarily, those things don't trigger me, so it's not my first thing to
say trigger warning for or content warning for. So it's hard it's definitely not as easy
as yes put trigger warnings on books and and have it done, there's just a lot to discuss so
there would be a lot of moving parts and I don't know how it would be like regulated but I thought that was interesting to talk about. Something else I wanted to talk about really quick was book boxes and i'll tell you why Illumicrate's on my shitlist but so someone in the comments brought
up the great point that book boxes are really wasteful essentially because like I
said so many of them end up on those like buy sell trade pages on facebook, like entire boxes not even like oh I just have this bookmark, does anyone want it? It's like the entire box and they come
out not all of them but a lot of them come out monthly. So that's 12 months a year for I don't
know they've at least been out since 2016, 2017 that's at least 36 boxes right there for someone
for like one person if they've had a subscription this whole time obviously the math isn't exact but that's a lot of boxes and then there's also other ones, other companies they do like a quarterly
box or then there's a regular box and a special edition box, so it just is a lot that they're
producing and myself I just wonder how long the books the sub box trend will last. I
obviously, I subscribe to a bark box for my dog and even that we're not gonna do we, I think we
did like a one year subscription even that we're not gonna do beyond that I don't think because
it's just repetitive but I wonder how long book boxes will be successful because obviously books are going to keep coming out and I will say they are helpful to maybe lesser-known authors um debut authors to promote their book and get it out there to a wider audience. So I understand that and
that's very important but I just wonder how long I don't know how long it'll be popular?
Because a lot of those items, I mean not always but a lot of them aren't well made
they're just like mass produced things like from China or something with like a print on it
or a quote. There are rarely boxes that come out i'm like wow those are really high quality items
that i'll keep for a long time. Like the couple boxes that I did get throw blankets love because
I love throw blankets, i'm gonna use them forever. Maybe if it was like a hoodie um obviously
candles have their value to a certain extent to use them or for decoration but just the things
like pencils and how many bookmarks does one need? Even prints because like how many prints do you need? I do love enamel pins, I will say that but like buttons, stickers just like paper products
that are really wasteful that people get rid of. I don't know, I just don't know how long how long
they're going it's going to be a successful thing, that there's so many boxes and obviously there
have been some that have had kind of a downfall um and gone rogue, really screwed people out
of their money.. was it Whimsify whimsical Whimsify box that just stopped talking
to people, didn't ship out their boxes didn't do refunds and she just been a ghost in the wind for like the last two years? so I don't know, hopefully you know other ones don't end like
that but i'm just wondering uh but for now they seem to be thriving. people love them I guess . um to illumicrate, so this video won't be too long. Last year and probably before this Jay Kristoff
kept hinting on Twitter that he was talking with his publisher voyager Harper Voyager about
getting the first two Nevernight books Nevernight and Godsgrave reprinted, the
UK edition hardcovers because they were out of print and people who did have them were
selling them for like a $1,000 on Ebay and so he kept mentioning it, people were kept
asking and I was like okay okay this is awesome they're gonna do a reprint, there's obviously a
need like a desire for them. So it came out last fall, I can't remember if it was October or
November that Illumicrate was going to get the deal with Harper Voyager and they were
going to get to reprint the first two books and they were going to be the UK hardcover with the
sprayed edges which I have wanted so much because I only have the US hardcover and I did get the
UK hardcover of the final book but i wanted the first two to match. was gonna be really
excited . So my husband kindly bought them for me and then it was like you got them in, you
pre-ordered them in the fall and they weren't set to ship to like arch of 2020. So I
started seeing people I think in March get their books and this was obviously right at the height
of the coronavirus starting to, the uptick. So our mail here slowed down significantly in the first
couple of months um it went from being about 7 to 14 days for things to arrive to honestly
to one to two months things were taking. So I wasn't expecting to get mine right off the bat,
I was like maybe i'll get it in May so i'm still waiting, still waiting and I was like okay now it's
been kind of a long time. I was like can you check your email he didn't have anything, I didn't have
anything and so I finally sent Illumicrate like I digged out the receipt and the confirmation
number and sent Illumicrate and emailed them I said I just wanted to check the status of my
Nevernight books. I haven't received an email that they shipped and haven't received them. So then
got an email back that said there was an issue with the shipping company, they were supposed
to flag armed forces address as they won't ship. They've been really overstretched during the pandemic so i'm speaking with them and we'll get back to you when I hear back and so we're like
okay no worries we can give you a US address to send them to, just like a regular US address
without the problem because i'm stationed in Sicily as most of you know but we have an American address. When you're a military person overseas your address for like your town usually says APO or FPO that means it's an American like federal post office box for basically. So for something
that I ordered from the UK it would literally ship from the UK to the United States from the United
States to me here in Italy. So it is a US shipping address, it's the same shipping rate like if
someone mails me something from the states it costs the same um based on my zip code which I think registers as like new york or something So it's a united states shipping address but
it just is a military an armed forces address so we're like no problem obviously we have family, like I wanted these books we already paid for them so we can give you an address to ship them
to in the states and we just have them ship it to us. So thought that was gonna solve the problem and we didn't hear anything back and my husband was like I got a refund for the books from Illumicrate so I emailed them and i said um I just saw that you refunded me for the books, was there an email where you relayed the information you received from your shipping company? um these gifts were, these books were purchased as a gift and uh we have another address that's not an
armed forces one that you can ship to. D?o you still have them in stock? Like let us know, we've
been waiting for a long time and then they email back I was just about to email you- were you?- we had to refund these books as we no longer have them in stock and the shipping company lost the original order I'm afraid. I'm so sorry about this. I got, I will not say I went full Karen because
I was very respectful and I did not ask to speak to a manager because at that point there was no
no purpose but my issue is that I pre-ordered these in October or November, when I went to the website and if you have ever shipped to an APO or FPO address you know this when you go to plug things in, if they don't ship they will tell you It'll like it either doesn't come up as an option
on the drop down menu because when you go choose state it won't be there, so you're like they don't
ship to FPO addresses or sometimes it even pops up and then you try to check out and it's like
won't ship. So I have that has happened to me multiple times with target with so many brands
that will not ship here. So I put in my address, it was available and it worked and so months
this was June now, so since October/ November whenever this was there was no one checking all of that before they even started a ship in March? Before the pandemic even started so like that
to me was bullshit and so had I not said anything, would they have refunded us or given us our money back since the shipping company lost the order? And we hadn't heard anything from them
in those months since I placed the order. They would have just kept my
money. What if I didn't keep my um proof of purchase and I didn't have my
confirmation number? They would have kept my money and so I sent them an email explaining all this
stuff because i was fucking pissed, I wanted these books, we paid for them and I had to be the one
to come to you to ask what was going on and they said we're sorry with this order. We do state in
our frequently asked questions we cannot deliver to APO, FPO addresses. The list of states in our
check area checkout area is a default list, I don't think we can remove, it we'll ask our developer
to take another look. Yeah you should because you can fucking remove it and so that to me is bullshit, I'm sorry. Our shipping company usually flags any addresses that cannot be shipped to so we
contact the customers for alternative addresses unfortunately like most businesses, the pandemic has them severely stretched lately. I'm sorry no. Fuck that bullshit because they got the order
way before the pandemic even fucking started and the gap between the refund and us notifying
you was due to the fact that the refund had to be done with paypal which meant our boss had to do it so there was a disconnect there that there usually isn't, please understand
it was never our intention to keep money for books that had not been received. We were
we weren't aware there was an issue until your husband got in touch and we did everything
we could to resolve it before we refunded him. Unfortunately the current pandemic is throwing
up a lot of issues we are all dealing with them the best we can. But it just pissed me off and so
now I have a sour taste in my mouth about Illumicrate and I obviously don't have those books and
I totally I 100% believe had I not emailed them, that i would have never seen those books
obviously and I would have never gotten and we would have never gotten our money back. So
to me that's shady business practice and yeah no you're a big business at this at
this point have your shit together, fix your fucking drop down menu so if you don't
ship to somewhere that's not even a fucking option and get it together becausehe paid for
those books and the ridiculous like 17 pound or whatever it is shipping to the united states
which this is the united states address because had they flagged it in the beginning we could have given them an alternate address to send it to and still been able to get the books but no so that's
why i don't fuck with Illumicrate anymore, they will forever be on my shit list. I really
hope they don't come out with a beautiful book that's something i love so I don't have
to question my morals but that's the story. I love how I just went on a rant about book
boxes and then I was watching a bookish haul by Jessie Mae and they were sent a box that's a
new subscription box and the company is i think it's books and breadsticks? I may have that wrong, i'm gonna have them link in the description it's a new subscription box that's based on like baking and books which if you follow me on instagram you know I love to bake. So i'm like damn am I gonna
have to try this box? She opened the box that was sent to her and it was literally an entire
kit to make a loaf of bread including the pan and it was like from a local it's sourced locally
from wherever the person who created the box is from and then the books are I think indie authors, they're from independent bookstores and i'm like I'm intrigued. Maybe not something I would
subscribe to every month but that definitely sounds awesome and very unique compared to other book boxes that are out there. So I just wanted to bring attention to that i'm not trying to shit on every book box there are definitely some that are more original than others. I think there's
one that I forgot what it's called but you get the book and they have all these little bookish things that correlate with like something in the book, so you get to page 95 and you open this little thing
I think that's cute. I can't confirm the items are always great but that's definitely a more unique
idea so this isn't to just like shit on all subscription boxes a lot of these people started
them themselves you know as small businesses and I guess technically you could still call them
small business you know but I just would like to have the conversation on how long we think
they're going to survive like or thrive? I guess and then i just want to throw shade at Illumicrate because i'm forever mad but anyway and that's it for today's video. I know this was really weird
but there's not a lot of bookish drama going on right now because I think we are all just you know, breathing out a big sigh of relief at the results of the elections or dare I say we released
a breath we didn't realize we were holding ? So we'll see what happens um going forward this week, if any any drama pops off but I appreciate if you watched this video, I know it's super weird. I'll link all the skincare products that I use in the description if you're interested. Please give
this video a thumbs up and subscribe, check out my description for anything else, alternatives
