Bon Scott was not, "on the verge of becoming an international rock star" when he died, he was already there. Sure, they'd get even huger with the release of "Back in Black" but AC/DC was already one of the biggest bands in the USA. This post gives me an excuse to urge you to listen to AC/DC's "If You Want Blood" album. Bon fronts the band here in this release recorded a couple years before his death, and it's so incredibly good. Absolutely one of the great live hard rock albums.

I saw Bon Scott fronting AC/DC on the last night of the Highway to Hell tour in 79 - the guy was magnetic on stage. It was a very sad day when finally his drinking got the better of him. I paid homage to his statue in Kirriemuir a few weeks back. Brian did a good job, but could not match the roguish smile and swagger that Bon brought to the role. I'll watch this after work - thanks for posting it.

Sad story about Bon. I dont know what's in this doc, but some interesting 'facts' I picked up diving down the Bon Scott rabbit hole, and primarily pulling info from the guy who wrote what is considered "The" books about ACDC and Bon Scott:

AC DC had one of the worst record contracts in music. They had sold millions of records yet made very little money from it. When Bon died, he had about $30k in his bank account. Extremely low for a million selling international rock star (the OP's title is wrong). He would write about it in songs like Down Payment Blues.

Alcohol is always the first thing people mention, but there's a pretty strong case that it was actually heroin that incapacitated him.

The Bon Scott estate receives royalties from Back in Black. There's a pretty good case to be made that at least some of those lyrics were written by Bon. One of his girlfriends said she remembers hearing him sing the chorus to You Shook Me All Night Long while walking around the house.

There were also phrases in that song and Have A Drink On Me that they said came from his lyrics book, which the band kept and never returned to his family.

Angus said in an interview back in the 90's that Bon wrote some of the lyrics on Back in Black.

Bon was the true original. I like Brian Johnson, but he was always an imitator who ran out of gas after two albums IMO.
