[Music] hi I'm Brian Johnson and I've spent a fair bit of my life on stage and on the road [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and I thought it would be fun to talk to some of my friends who've done the same and survived so I'm meeting young Roger dalry from The Who pebblehead Nick Mason from Pink Floyd chatting to Robert Plant about Led Zeppelin and Beyond to staying about the early days of the police as well as Joe Elliott from Def Leppard and Metallica's Larson Rick so let's hit the road [Applause] boy here that's dick coming in [Music] make some modest kind of guy except when it comes to All Things mechanical like me he's a bit of a petal head and he's asked me to meet him at a secret Aerodrome in the Cotswolds where he keeps his vintage car collection [Music] he's just come fluttering down there God ly he's so good that's good I like your chopper thank you doctor was it a was it a good reading very good [Applause] [Music] Pink Floyd are one of the most successful and groundbreaking bands in rock history and that success has allowed Nick to indulge in his other Passions fashion oh look at this little Bentley welcome to my world this is beautiful you lucky son I mean I've seen photographs of it in magazines and I've seen little Clips on the TV but I've never actually been here you know it's a fairly uh sort of mixed bag yeah well there's nothing here and under at least five million it's marvelous person this is really where it all started wow look at this oh my God look at that thing it's pure art isn't it and this little girl got Pink Floyd around America so thank you look at this well done she says I'm well done indeed listen that is just so gorgeous so Nick I don't suppose there'd ever be a chance to get no rain in this I mean it's just sorry Brian I'd love to have a rain in this car okay well we'll just go yeah what a proper red card as well look I don't foreign [Music] listen to that noise [Music] and here I am ladies and gentlemen Nick Mason and he's 250 GTO this is the car that helped finance Pink Floyd's 1987 took a momentary lapse of Reason Nick brought this Ferrari 250g to your in 1978 for 35 000 pounds and now it's worth an incredible 40 million Roger wanted to show me the place whether who worked on the live Zone in the early years and I wanted to ask him how they took the act from the clubs of Shepherd's Bush to an American in the late 60s and then conquered the world [Music] a famous Bush off yeah and in the very early 60s this was a just a bingo hall right we used to meet us here in like 62 63 but the earlier if you go first and give myself it wasn't like this because this is now very popular music thing nice you can imagine you know this was full of chairs and on there was a bingo set up just come in the afternoon and this is the room you guys used to set up in there and rehearse yeah yeah damn it I wish I'd have been a flyer in a while but it was it was a great place to be yes really good Perfect Isn't it it's brilliant yeah it's absolutely brilliant you saw God we don't know I wouldn't mean rehearsing it here it's a perfect place tell us some of the tunes that you started those days we were playing the blues yes we've got little Chicago Blues this was kind of in the period before Townsend started writing his own our own music yeah so we'd be doing covers of pounding wolf James Brown you know we anything that we thought would turn the crowd on something new [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] the way you guys played it could have been a Strangler as a jam 20 25 years after yeah it was exactly the same the attitude isn't it yeah and it's when you know when you're doing it and you mean it it's more powerful than anything all those bands there's no the other thing is you get older but you guys invented attitude however let's get ready I remember that time when I was the first thing about it I think it's getting straight here you know have you forgotten Little Richard have you forgotten shoes no no no no no no [Music] [Applause] [Music] we were pioneering we were like the first wagon train that went across America you know four musicians a few Roadies that was it in the early days the road is such fun when you're young it's fabulous I used to call my mum when I first got to Kansas City hey mum guess where I am I'm Kansas City and it was like one minute phone call because I said oh you could look forward because you used to have the tariffs on the floor and remember when you're done Jesus Christ yeah and make your time to call and all that but all those little things were at the start you know when you were you know you'd come and you'd just be so excited to see Philadelphia and you'd be looking at the bus when they're going wow look at this you know now the skyscrapers just everything been at first New York for the first time and got one of them delis and said could I have a sandwich please then come back with a big stick so we keep it together we used to bring steaks on we'd never seen nuts a steak this size this is post-war England uh silver paper and bring them over their suitcase that's what he did that's exactly what we did I got my first T-bone steak I know it was that big and I wrapped it up from silver foil and I did a seven I put up my suitcase and no one ever got arrested for smuggling in a piece of stuff [Music] my time anywhere to speak my mind anywhere all right Brian for lunch all right come on I'll show you where the uh where the that's one of our [ __ ] cats HQ kitties right there so that's the control room back where that was the kitchen up there then back that's the crew room back there and then uh up here is kind of where more of these they go plus this isn't it yeah we're more of the creative yeah stuff happens in here is uh where we play is this is this this map is it a wall map let's see what it says here oh it says we have giggled we've either giggled or gig depending on uh which one so uh so we've uh played Mexico yeah we played in Mexico and Russia it's been primarily our show and they have done China which was crazy and fun that's a lot of places that is a lot of places um every step of the way yes absolutely every step of the way that's very impressive but uh that's all about the past in here this is all about the future this is this is cooling yeah this is like a garage yeah it's like a garage yeah you know what I mean we're trying to get like a clubhouse basically yeah this is where we write and there's the kit and this is where we record there looking thing isn't it and here's some guitars and well what happens when we tour is that you know the kids just love to throw Flags yeah up on stage and we tell our tell our guys to to keep them and bring them back and so we kind of have all these uh you know from Far Corners of the world as you can see Quebec and England and Poland and there's Russia right there Honduras I think that's the Belgian flag up there my geography uh classes in school paid off Korea as uh Ireland oh that's cool me son it's nice to it's nice mementos aren't they from the past yeah it's good to uh you know we always wanted to keep this place kind of more loose and Casual it looks rock and roll that's a great thing about it it looks the business we've been here 15 years yes there's nothing here that shouldn't be that's fantastic I like that on that happy note okay [Music] but you know playing with you guys on that run in 1991 which was the last time we really sort of supported anybody you know it was just I mean we were in heaven getting a chance to be close to you guys and watching you every night for [ __ ] six weeks and you had the whole stadium show and you guys did your full two two and a half hour headline thing you do [Music] and I mean again getting off stage and then getting a chance every night for six or eight weeks to go up and just watch you guys I remember saying yeah and I know that guy that seems to have rubbed up very well thank you Bianca thank you Uncle Brian Hey Joe welcome to Dublin Joe wanted to show me his favorite Dublin pug and get me to sample his very own beer oh this is nice to me son right then sir for your perusal 11 proof eleven eleven eleven this one goes to 11. but when you've been around as long as I have no problem playing the hits on stage when I go and see the stones on McCartney I'm not really bothered about airing flowers in the dirt I want to hear Helena Rigby it's like if you didn't plant enough Back in Black you'd be a riot well we always we don't play things off of Hysteria we are pleasing the one percent that criticize it yeah I've always said and I'll say a million more times before I die no doubt if you can't handle the responsibility of writing a hit don't write it you're going to understand what people have paid for exactly here otherwise it's just like it's not an education center when you come to see a big band it's a place I don't understand pretentious one say a place of worship but you're coming to celebrate what you know and part of gonna see AC DC Def Leppard YouTube Durand around Iron Maiden doesn't matter who is he said here all the stuff that you saw on MTV or you heard as a kid yeah they'll indulge you every half an hour three minutes of a new song and that's how we play it we open with a new one we play one half an hour in we play one 55 minutes in and then we go into what we call the home straight and that's what every artist's Savvy will do will you join a band it's because you want to play on stage nobody ever went well I can't wait to spend five years in the studio no nobody ever said that why we do it I have no idea narcissistic I don't know what we are but it's just our thing but if it wasn't for the fact that McCartney and Lennon and Jagger and Richards did this and all the Ray Davies Dave Dave all these people that made fantastic music that came before us gave us that goal and if they're narcissistic I want to be that narcissistic yeah I think I said it here once before you wanted a few in the world that I really really respect and I'm proud to be your pal I really am it it's just thank you Ryan learn a lot of you learn by what this man says oh look at that [Music] well I think it's Robert he's got a good big sword Robert how are you son my dear boy look at that magnificent old tool you've got there I know the people talk about it all the time now I think it's brilliant are you coming over there I said that's a Celtic Warrior walking over that bridge well I would have been on Horseback but unfortunately the genes don't work so well now but no need to look down Brian that's enough of that I've heard about you do you think you'll always keep looking for it would you ever be satisfied I am satisfied at every step of the way but in the middle of all the changes I step back and have a look and say is this really all right for you plenty do you mind this is there anything else you'd rather do as a singer and the answer is you know no no but I'm pleased because you're just uh you're still the same guy I've known for a long time but you just seem so happy and you're still as funny and I've beat with everyone and uh it's just fun to be around you I always have a good time but we do and I suggest we do tonight as well me son I think that's probably likely yeah foreign had one last players he wanted to take me the beach he's been coming to is her life it's also the place where he landed as a Celtic Warrior and The Song Remains the Same listen to that I hear them calling ah it'd be the waves lad it's a funny thing because I've been filmed All That Song Remains the Same stuff back in 73 around here it's amazing to come back here with all them years in between the comings and goings of all that time and end up revving it up like this you know but this is it you must have some mythical touch here because I'm tired uh yes I was in the car actually oh God foreign we've got a full moon coming up here and we've got the sun setting behind we're here there's not a cloud in the sky we're in Wales that's a main America in itself so you must be touched you must be touched by the arthurians or swords that sword first made his appearance on this the Silver Screen in back in 1973 yeah you should finish the show by drawing the sword drawing a solid could I do that I think so I'm your turn mate touch plenty's sword stand by your beds I got here we go think of the responsibility you have oh great thanks Robert [Music] one two and a jolly good author hey R to the sunset me son sit down I got you they're addicted [ __ ] Bonkers I'm So Into The Saga of Noggin the knob well we could have had a [ __ ] glass of wine you know I was just thinking about a nice glass good
