[Music] hi I'm uh I'm sorry and this is the puppet in hay fever spectacular oh yes we're sitting on grass the grass is nearer to our faith than it normally is but actually several benches freed up now but we're set up here so I'm gonna pass we'll be in people's way yes um literally I just saw a lot of random it just got rained pollen on as that happened last time with your cue a three separate people asked us to ball games and tabletop games go ahead Star Trek attracts Josh hi you still with us love you just want to look at a visitor as well Johnson's give us some loss diplom just go sushi go yes a friend of mine has again it's good it's a card game but it's not that kind of card game it's just a game that happens to be made out of bits of card and you sort of collect things and each thing is worth different things and there yeah and you in need give the mechanic thing you you have a hand you take a card just keep and then you pass the hand around the table no subscribe that much rather than idea young are the point being that by the time you pass the hands around a couple of times you know what other people are aiming for you can start doing advanced strategy and if you're paying with more than one of the person it can get quite hard to yeah the best way to do tactics is to remember what's in the hand and in all of the hands so you know what you're about to get and what they're about to get its my ideal kind of game because you can explain the rules in five minutes and while there is an advantage to having played before it's not an overwhelming advantage you can pick it up within one visit this is why I despise Dominion as a game which is that same clans are really confusing it's a really confusing massive deck building game and it takes so long to explain all potential consequences but I can see why people like it it I prefer quick past games on that note there is an expansion suit ego called Bushido party which adds a whole load complicated rules I have only seen it played in the other side of room but if sushi go is getting too simple for you there is now an expansion pack that works for up to eight players I think cool on the cards collecting things spectrum exploding kitchens is actually quite good I don't like it we're mus I have only played it with a massive group I there about eight of us I do not like it because I think the mechanic use it have the same so I previously applied that I strongly strongly dislike munchkin and flux yeah for the reason that it is all decides at the end I suppose yes a munchkin it's a war of attrition whoever happens to be playing when everyone else runs out of cards happens to win for flux it's whoever happens to have the right things whatever else runs out of cards and for exporting kittens it's assignments whoever happens to be playing when everyone else runs out of cards I suppose yeah and for the people that are let's say losing you can sit around and do nothing for a little yeah yeah sorry to immediately immediately I have we had fun doing it in New Year's because we were playing it and chatting at the same time and yeah a lot to be said for that but for the people that weren't playing could think about drinking yes and talking and yeah it was multiple conversations while the game was also happy actively related I played a wonderful game for the first time yesterday as we record this so I'm gonna plug this it is called captain sonar ping ping yeah that happens it is so first of all if you want to play it properly it requires eight people Wow yeah and no more than eight like you can do it with six or seven but you tell me people who play before ideally you need eight people two of which have played before so you can explain the game and have even teams but it's possible to do you have two teams at all you are suffering opposite sides of a table divided by a big cardboard divider right one of you is the captain who steers the submarine one is the first mate who keeps track of what systems are available and where you're sending power to one is the engineer whose job it is to keep those systems running because every time you move you have to take something off line and then you have to work to get going again and one is the radio operator whose job it is is to listen only to what the opposing teams captain is shouting about north south east and west and work out on the map where it must be because their island in the way and then you have to get close to each other and fire a torpedo okay this is all it's complicated but what makes it for me is that it's real time there are no terms you take turns as fast as your captain can start shouting directions for it but if the captain starts shouting directions too fast and doesn't check with everyone the engineer might suddenly go are we just blew up or are we just lost weapons for the next two direct five minutes older so it is real time there is an advantage to having played before but it also descends into that kind of wonderful chaos where someone will go firing a torpedo and join us on the same team will shout out we can't if you played space team on the phone very it's kind of like a wonderful version of that only a bit more complication it was a lot of fun it sounds sort of like some kind of busted battleship yeah it is yeah but doesn't quite work it's now Settlers of Catan yeah it's a classic that it works yeah like if you want to introduce your family to something that's like monopoly but won't resulting entirely seething family resentment Settlers of Catan is the one to go for and you can say amazing things like does anyone swap some rocks with some sheep yes yes I think I've taken you men to be world that everyone cuz she oh yeah is trying to play with someone new who's just read the rules and you who says it by what the pictures on the card rather than what they're so house rule the robber is called Bicol yeah um it's a game I don't know what it's called you might know you might be able to help me cry we used to play it in New York and it was called Quigley line game but there's an actual printed version no idea some dude Celtic knots but I don't know what the game it's it's a long time I loaded tiles and have paths from one end to the other or each side of the tile - there are four sides it has two entrance exit points and the line on the tile shows you which way to go yeah and you keep drawing from a deck and it puts it down and you crash into each other or dial you get to the other side yeah I enjoyed it it's really quick I don't know what it's called ah Niagara I played that recently Niagara a lovely game designed for all ages in that wonderful sense that you can explain the rules in like five minutes and you know kids will go okay I can move here I can do that adults will go hang on if I move there and you do that and then I make that thing I can really screw you over and the gimmick of it is that you are in canoes on a river but the river is made of transparent plastic discs and every turn and this comes in at the top of the river and falls off at the bottom or maybe multiple discs will come at the top and fall off the bottom if your canoe is on one of those disks being pushed down the river and it falls off but I can it's just it's really really nice it's got it's got a gimmick it's got Rudy's now it's running in five minutes and it's just nice to play I think that's probably me on Monday shion's I've got a series honorable mention cuz it's not really a tabletop game alright it's a half computer keep talking no one explodes I played that the first time this week yes it is played out loud one person has a computer in front of them er if you're feeling fancy and you've got a bond with one a computer-generated bomb the bomb can have one of many different firing mechanisms or it's puzzles to solve so you don't explode yeah but you have no idea what to do with any of these things and the people on the other side of the room - you have the instruction manual and it's you can have it as an actual printed instruction manual you can say oh there are some of the red wire the blue wire the green stripy wire you are that person in a movie with a voice connected to the internet in your ear going what heard you talk which why do I cut unlike is there three why is there three wires without notice four or any of them green yes cut the second one I genuinely had ammo where the person next to me hadn't read the instructions all the way through and said it's fine okay it was press the blue button and I suddenly went know the exact moment they press the blue button the bomb exploded but and it's not just cutting wires there are a lot of really easier to make it hard for the people reading the instructions the instructions are can get quite complicated yeah but to make it hard for the person that's holding the bomb there are so many things that are ambiguous like homonyms who's on first module where some of the options of words you have to get from within your VR headset or from your computer screen so people are your it while you are your while you apostrophe re the letters U and R and the words you are and I think you've got me in you so when you're talking to me and also yes um haha spell to different way and area and the word are spelt a couple different yeah yeah yeah that's that's that's um game recommendations and of course there are a load of Amazon affiliate links in the bottom a really well I think I think will have declared that I'm in description anyway heyyo ball games yeah turns out we we have contact we have we where things we enjoy Matt and if you didn't if you don't want to buy all of these games to try them they were board game cafes only they're all over the country yeah ankles draft in London that Yangtze whistle ah it's easier obviously to put into open not in London it is London rent if extortionate yeah but yeah I'm lookin service if there's one New Year's I think a lot of them have some kind of basics more than entry fee just yeah to cover their cost yen and it shows about having people sit for an up to drinks over five hours is not a great business model it they could something yeah there you go enjoy some ball games i'm c-czar you see the bottle shake dimple just that buttock shaped didn't put you in something tight
