hello my name is eve i'm a 3d artist in illustrator and in this tutorial i'll be showing you how to make a turntable animation in blender if you find this video useful make sure to subscribe also turn on the notifications so you get notified when i release new tutorials i have lots of exciting tutorial series coming up okay now let's start first let's set up our workspace open another window by dragging on the top right corner here this way we can set up our camera on one side and then navigate around the model on the other side now let's set up a camera click in the viewport and then press ctrl alt and 0 on the numpad to set up a camera from view here i'm sharing the settings that i use for my project but you can adjust the camera to your specific needs for this project i change the type of the camera from perspective to orthographic and change the value to 5. i also made sure the camera is centered by pressing n to bring up the item menu and then setting the location value to zero that way it's all nice and centered and it's not offset with the camera set up we're ready to make the turntable so there are multiple ways to do that and the one that i like to use is adding an empty object to the scene animating that and then attaching the camera and lights to it that way the camera and lights follow the animation of the empty okay now let's do that press shift a then select empty and choose plane axis this is the object that we're going to animate make sure you're on frame 1 then select the empty and press the i key then select rotation this adds a rotation keyframe on frame 1. okay now move to the end of the timeline and with the empty still selected press r to rotate then z to constrain the rotation to the z-axis and then type in three six zero to rotate 360 degrees so that is one full rotation then press i again and set a rotation keyframe as you can see here when you scroll from the first frame to the last frame it goes from 0 to 360 degrees now let's switch to the graph editor in here then in here select all the keyframes and press the v key and choose vector this will give you a continuous motion of the animation with a consistent speed [Music] now we're going to attach the camera and the lights to the empty object so they follow its rotation first let's do the camera select the camera and then control select the empty press ctrl p and then select object keep transform now your camera is parented to the empty you can see the camera here is rotating 360 degrees now let's do the lights by parenting those as well you ensure the lighting is consistent for your turntable select all the lights and then control select the empty again press ctrl p and then choose object keep transform now when you move back to the camera you can see that the lights stay consistent because they're rotating with the camera another way to make a turntable is to animate the objects in the scene to rotate however i personally don't like to use that method and i wouldn't recommend it as it sometimes complicates things unnecessarily that is because sometimes you work with multiple meshes and you want to add animation to them individually and then on top of that you have the 360 turntable motion it gets a bit messy it's not necessarily wrong to do it but it's just easier to keep the 360 turntable motion to just the camera and the lights now let's do our render settings first we need to switch the cycles from here down here in sampling are your render samples the higher your samples are the less noisy and more clear your image will be you can set them higher if your results are grainy when rendering but that will also increase your render time for now i'll just leave them as they are and adjust layer if needed i also turned on denoising for all my renders if you want a transparent background go here in the settings and make sure the transparent is turned on after that go all the way down here in color management and you want to make sure that the view transform is set to standard and not filmic that way your render will be nice and vibrant to adjust the size of the rendered sequence go into output properties and set the resolution to whatever size you need here i set mine to 248 by 248 for a large square image like the name suggests frame start and frame end defines the region that you want rendered so i set it to frame 1 and frame 240. if you scroll further down you find the output section here you choose the format that you want your sequence to be rendered in as well as where you want it to be saved i recommend using a png sequence for your renders that way if anything unexpected happens like for example blender crashing halfway through you won't lose all of your progress if you do render directly to video you have a slight risk of losing everything if blender crashes but honestly it's up to you really if you want to render as a video the file format i recommend is the ffmpeg video with an mpeg-4 codec and perceptually lossless quality if you do render as a png sequence later you can put all the individual frames together in any editing software and with all of that set up we're now ready to render the turnaround sequence press ctrl f12 to start rendering it i hope that has cleared up the house and wise of how you make a turntable animation in blender if you have any questions leave them in the comments below and i'll do my best to help also if you want to learn how to make this bunny model i used in the video i have a two-part tutorial series on my channel which shows you how to make it from start to finish so check it out if you're interested as always if you like this video make sure to like and subscribe and i'll see you in the next one bye
