hello everybody I wanted to record a video for blender to help remind me how to do this process but we're going to distribute objects across a surface using an add-on called tissue there's some great videos by uh Studio Academy which um are very inspiring to me but I'm going to run through the process so you can see what's going on and I would definitely recommend that you check out those videos on YouTube so I'm going to select everything by pressing a I'm going to press X to delete and I'm going to use shift a to add a brand new mesh mesh plane this mesh plane I'm going to scale up about 10 times and I'm going to go into edit mode and subdivide This Plane by 20. so we've got lots of faces which is really good right now I'm going to use the sculpt mode to I'm going to use f to increase the size of my brush and I'm just going to give this plane some volume and just bring up some of these edges and just just like so just just like that okay and we're going to tessellate uh something along the edge of this so uh the object I'm going to testify let's go back into object mode and uh let's add another plane so I'm going to choose mesh plane and I'm going to move that along the y-axis so we can see it okay let's press slash to isolate and let's go into edit mode and change this so I'm going to use the inset tool and let's do that again properly so insert that in a bit and I'm going to just scale that in just a touch more and that's um let's move that on the Z so we get something like this and I'm going to delete the faces so I just have a shape like that let's press the slash key to get that back and let's go back into object mode so there is an add-on that you need for this it's built into blender and you just need to turn it on so you need to go to edit preferences and in add-ons you're looking for tissue okay so I've already got it turned on mesh tissue and once it's turned on you can close that and if you press n on your keyboard you will see tissue listed there you have to be in object mode and you have to select the object that you want to put along the face of this surface so I'm going to select this object then you press shift and select the surface that you want it to tessellate on and you click on the test light options and all we have to do is press teslate and you don't need to change any of these settings it's worth exploring these and seeing what happens but let's press OK and you can see there is the object tessellating now we can see the original plane and we can just turn that off and we can see here there is the new uh tessellated object so this tool is uh is incredibly useful and um you can do all sorts of things so let's undo let's undo that and instead of using this object let's select that let's let's add a different one so shift a mesh let's add um an icosphere and let's move that in the y direction so we can see that I'm going to scale it down a little bit and I'm going to apply that scale by pressing Ctrl a and um and I'm going to select that object and then shift click the surface and choose test late and okay and let's turn off the planes and the icosphere and you can see well again you can see how those um quads stretch they will stretch your object and that's well that's a really nice effect we've got going on there so the tissue add-on is um is a lot of fun I do recommend uh Studio there's a couple of videos that I want to watch again uh because um there's a lot to experiment with the tissue add-on I remember playing with tissue add on a long time ago and now it's built into blender it's brilliant so yeah try that out thanks for watching
