hello internet friends and family it's me prep bras and I'm here to talk about power outage situations and how to prep for them some code the blackout bag that's what I call it so I'm gonna go through what's in my blackout bag as well as everything around the house that I already have set up and how you can set it up so you're most prepared for a blackout situations I actually hang this up on our chalkboard and it's the blackout checklist staying home so the first thing you really want to do as a prepper is you want to monitor the weather in as soon as you see there's gonna be a giant ice storm or bad weather or anything you think that could possibly cause a blackout scenario you want to do this stuff as soon as possible before the lights are out then you just go down your list your blackout lists when the lights are out and one of the first things I do is I call Duke Energy our local energy company I look at the outages map on my phone if I still have the ability to use my phone and I find out how bad it really is but then I just go down this list you can look at it one of the first things you want to do when the power goes out is take any meat raw meats you have out of your fridge as quick as possible and throw it up here with all the frozen goods in your ice that's gonna keep it colder longer right and if it gets to a point where that starts getting warm you probably want to cook all your meat that's gonna store longer and you could eat it later and how do you cook all that raw meat what's your baby weber grill of course watch you do not have a baby weber you should also make sure you store tons of charcoal more than this I need more and as much firewood you can stuff in your garage when the power's out you want to go around here a whole house and shut all the blinds all the curtains so people can't see you this also helps come of any heat it's in your home but yeah show them all the way down lock all your windows lock all your doors double lock if you can grab your blackout bag lights these are LED battery-powered they supposedly last for a couple days got four of them one for each room basically I like using these instead of candles cuz I got cats and cats are notorious for knocking everything off the table not a lot of fire to whistles and we both put these on the lights go out we got these all in case you know she asked you in the basement there's problem and I'm outside and she could blow this I can blow this it's a good way for us just keep like in contact with each other in the house me and the wife not the cat crank radio I guess you might want to call it you'd spin this right and it has radio and a flashlight on it's also solar chargeable you want to hear what's going on in the world especially your local radio stations right three things here and you're like what the heck are these things these are sonic door jams so what you do is you put this in front of your door turn it on they go off if you have someone trying to come into your house like somebody can pick your lock and open your door in the middle of the night these go off here's a quick demonstration so the first one I place right in front of my front door one goes right here in front of the side door and one more at the back door and here's what happens when someone tries to come in this is for if I need to communicate on emergency channels so let's spend a quick second talking about ham radios this is like one of the most pop or once the bail thing because it is super cheap you might not be like an expert on ham radio and frequencies but I'll just give you a quick break them this thing can communicate with pretty much every walkie-talkie ever made the ones you buy at Walmart or sporting goods stores it covers all of the main walkie talkie channels not only can you listen to them you can actually talk to them you know it's a two-way radio you could broadcast and communicate with them it also picks up a lot of frequencies that are considered like the ham radio frequencies and these ham radio guys man they live to said to her monitor channels for like especially during emergency blackout situation so you could communicate with them when there's an emergency right without having a license you're allowed to use these without a license if it's an emergency to call for help or something right now if you want to like start getting into the legalities of when you need a license when it's not an emergency read up on that because they're pretty strict about that and they get mad if you don't have a license to use this but remember you can always monitor everything going on even like police channels and EMT channels and stuff like that but these are just best for like if your cell phone is not working cell towers are down this is a secondary old-school means of communication and trust me there's still a lot of people out there that still use it and that could save a life in a terrible black out emergency situation there you don't want to die get help I got this big old solar charger yeah hold out for a g-wiz all right 24 watt solar charger it has two USB charging ports on it well like you know recharge my um my battery bank my phone my electronic devices stuff like that you know what these are also got some liquid nicotine I like the vape and this will keep me going for a month these are solid fuel cubes you can cook with the nice they last for like ten minutes and they burn it 1,300 degrees got 12 them in the box these are great because even though I have like a barbecue like a you know Weber and I got charcoal and I got wood I can cook that way if I need to i also have a fireplace right these are nice though if you don't want to put out smoke and let people know that like your burning fire and you're in there and you're warm and they're not I also got this and I'm not pulling it out it's an infrared cooktop it's electric but I have a generator and it's will power this so I can cook like that if I need to if I just got some duct tape Andy I got all this stuff in the house but it's like I like to have everything centralized just because when the lights go out I'm like grab that and I know that all the essentials are in here I got a headlamp big bright headlamp working on stuff better to have a headlamp oh and trust me I have many flashlights around the house so I only need to put one in my bag here's one next to my bed stand here's one hanging by the front door I got this bad boy in the back room and the nice little headlamp hanging here by the side door oh just remember to go one on my keychain - we and here I have a battery bank I got battery banks all over the place but I like to have centralized there's one and there's tons of USB cables with all the adapters to fit all my stuff my phone and all the electronics lighter just in case you know I needed one handy got a water straw this is for bars but out forever and water might be dirty or I have to collect rainwater also have tons of batteries in here I'm not pulling them all out but triple A's double aces and four days DS Smola laughs bet I got super large thick heavy three mils 96 gallon garbage bags what I would do with these is if the water shuts off for some reason I have to collect rainwater I would put this bag into one of my big garbage cans and then drain my ease drop into this and collect rainwater here's another great thing to have in your house I don't put them in my bag because I already have these on every room of my house already and the great thing about this brand in this type is they're affordable so you can have a bunch don't forget battery-powered smoke detectors I prefer the combo version smoke and carbon monoxide because some houses and apartments have smoke detectors in them that are actually plugged into the electrical system but when the power goes out yeah you're just not sure if this has a battery backup on it or not or if it's charging or working so better just to have a few of these around and remember hang em high next thing I like to do is bust out my first-aid kit from the closet and put it somewhere front and center like in your bathroom this thing is packed with all the trauma essentials nice to have a manual too just in case you know something you don't know take care of pops up every good Preppers should have a gas powered generator for blackout situations I got this one it cost me about four hundred and fifty dollars it's the inverter style which means cleaner electric it has very many components in it safety components so that it can reliably charge safely charge your delicate electronics like cell phones and stuff like that for example here's one battery I always make sure I charge up like South situation it goes to my CPAP because I snore and also run all the other big stuff like maybe a furnace that's what I got this for I have a gas powered furnace right but it has an electric fan on it and blower so this thing has the wattage to pull off running my fan so in when the lights are out nobody else has electricity I still have heat because electricity doesn't affect your gas yes it just affects your blower so BAM I put this outside run an extension cord to my furnace I have heat so here's my furnace and what I had was my friend came out electrician and he installed a receptacle on here so that the electric that normally just ran straight into my furnace goes into this receptacle and then my furnace plugs into this so all I have to do now is to remove this plug and put that right into my generator it has two plugs on it you treat these just like you would your wall outlet it also has a little DC plug there and what you do is it comes with this cable you plug it into there and now you can charge your car battery in case it's dead you know in the winter that happens a lot one thing I love about this little guy is he's little and he's quiet man this thing is about as loud as a gas-powered weed eater when you turn it on and just set it down a little idle it's really just that loud it's so quiet and you want a quiet generator because when the lights are out and all your neighbors are freezing and they don't have electricity and stuff some of them might be like hey I hear a generator I'm gonna go steal it anyway it runs on one gallon of gas for nine hours wow that's amazing folks really it is for a generator that puts out 2,000 watts hey let's turn that stay good wow that was easy whoo I took one pull so anyway you hear running I know it's gonna sell louder on the phone that it is some person but I'm telling you this thanks pretty quiet it's on Eco mode and then when you want to crank it up when you're gonna be pushing maximum voltage maximum watts it is louder and you hear it still pretty quiet though quieter than a lawnmower securing the perimeter of your home at night is important when the lights are out so I got these LED solar-powered motion detector lights all around the main parts of my house as you see here that when I get near them bang they come on they're really bright I like these things like they're super bright and they're always on because they're solar powered battery lights right so no one's gonna get near my beans and spam when I'm inside in it's dark because I'll see the lights kicking on through the window blinds and we'll run out with my shotgun and say go away when the power goes out you never know when the waters gonna go out I get out my trash bags and fill all of your sinks in your tub with these and fill them up with water now I will say this don't get the trash bags that have like scented things on them or anything you want the most basic just plastic bags because you don't want to contaminate your water two trash bags go in my laundry sinks they're nice and big you can really get a lot of water stored in these and one goes in the tub one goes in the bathroom sink and if you're feeling really generous put one in your trash can fill it up with water too let's talk about food and supply rations I got enough to last me for a couple weeks all right then I'm bugging out throw the paper water I got about five giant jugs of water trash bags corn oil I like corn oil because it burns really high without breaking down Dawn dish soap vinegar two big things salt two big boxes of sardines this things last forever and some plain Clorox bleach because I got that for purifying rainwater if it reaches that level up here we have beans beans are the most nutritious food you can buy and they let get the ones and cans they last forever you don't want to get dry beans because it takes too many resources to in time to soak them cook them and these you can eat them rather can if you have to this is where you get your vitamin C down here it's got some potatoes full of potassium and other great nutrients over here I have meats canned meat and I like buying meat that doesn't have like a ton of gravy or an extra flavorings on it because I want it to be as much meat in the can as I can get for my money these will mix nicely with tomatoes beans pasta rice over here I got ramen noodles that's more for comfort this stuff has a zero nutritional value in it peanut butter very nutritious and lots of good fats oatmeal one little cup of this stuff in some water and just boil it for a little bit and that's pretty much a whole meal I'll fill you up plus oatmeal is very nutritious over here I have rice pasta once again these mix well with the the tomatoes and the beans and all the other stuff I mean don't forget bullion cubes these are great for adding flavor to stuff and the last thing on here is definitely for comfort I've been in a situation where the electric was out for a whole week and I was miserable and sad and depressed so it's like I stock up on liquor vodkas great because it mixes with anything so lime juice and then also some lemonade one more thing I keep a big thing of cat food in here don't forget kitties make great hand warmers I think it's really cold in the winter and the lights around last but certainly not least if you own a firearm now is the time to get it out lock and load and keep it mirror and beer if you're not into guns you could get some pepper spray maybe a nice solid bat I recommend the Brooklyn basher or just grab the nearest sharpest utensil that you have in your drawer and you can fight off invaders with this and save your family with no get a gun gun hey I hope you enjoyed my video I know I covered a lot of things that maybe just personalized for me but I tried to put all the essentials in there as well remember it all starts with the list make your own list right so I went through the grueling process of linking to each and every item down in the description below this video I'm prepper us I guess
