[Music] [Music] hello youtubers welcome back i've got another short video here which um i've fudged together basically it happened to me about three months ago and i thought i'll record this if it ever happens again and it has so let's switch on and i'll run through what's happening basically i do not use bitlocker i've never set it up no interest in doing it and yet and this dell laptop has turned around and on bootum says please enter your bitlocker recovery key i have no idea what it is i never set it up it doesn't exist but for some reason the laptop wants a bit like a key this is really common apparently on dell hp and lenovo laptops and basically if you have set up a key and you've lost it you're screwed you can only reformat the drive your data is lost um it's a million percent secure and a lot of people presume the best thing to do is just wipe the machine and start again you can actually get around it and there are a few posts online you can try and run the recovery options what you'll find is you just go any loops and you can put as many codes in as you want so the trick is to get into the bios um i'm using a dell laptop here it'll be similar on other machines but dell seems to be one of the brands that suffers quite a lot with this um dell tech support absolutely no help so um see if you can follow these steps i'll put them in the comments below and so what we're going to do is reboot and get into the bios and there we go magically into the bios a few things you want to look for and it is trial and error the first time this happened blitzed it first time and then realized i've not recorded it um so you want to check the beat manager is in fact windows beat manager you want to check for things like legacy boot is turned off um i had to play around with secure boot and turn it on and off a few times ptt security um rumored you need to turn it off in this case it's on and the machine works with it on so secure boot check those settings the main thing is the key the security keys i had to reset these and the idea is you reset the keys and then restore the bios to factory settings then the next time you reboot you go in and you turn back on secure boot it doesn't seem to make a difference this time now but it did last time i had to have secure boot on so i'll leave that in the notes below um i'm wondering whether this is something to do with windows 11 which has just been installed but it's happening on windows 10 so it does happen in both operating systems and so it's trial and error just try and turn on or off security options to do secure boot management keys and ptto on some machines it may be called tpm too and there you go windows is booted there is no lock icon there is no bit locker on this machine it's also windows 10 home so it should never have that message on so why it's happening no idea if it's happened to you please put comment in the notes below and and tell us how you how you managed it please like and subscribe [Music] you
