tony stewart has never won at talladega in a nascar sprint cup car it's gonna do a lot of blocking right here they've got to run on him gotta run here they come i can't go down there and do that though actually i think it's legal on the last lap he might have got it right there i think it's legal on the last lap here's the replay again watch a 0-1 and he got forced down there i mean tony stewart actually forced him down a little bit well yeah if you're going to consider that he only yeah they are saying tony stewart has won the race they would not allow that pass below the yellow line take me through that last lap move ah well i knew i was going to get one shot at him and paul was back there pushing me i backed it up a little bit going into three and i knew i was gonna make my move at and uh i don't know i always got told that the rule is if you get forced down there then you're the winner of the race on the last lap anything goes that's they always say it in the drivers meeting and that's what i was going with i got forced down there man i had a nose inside of them and i could have piled up the whole field and i guess that would have been a cooler finish i don't know but i'm proud of dei i'm proud of the principal phantom group everybody on this team ecr engines were awesome it was a great day for us we're trying to get this car funded for next year and you know second sucks that's all i can say we don't know right now if you are second nascar has not placed you yet where do you feel like you should be placed doing burnouts out there right now you can tell the disappointment but still uh there's reason to be excited about this run for regan smith and d.e.i coming back on one to go brought to you by credit one been a lot of questions about what position do you want to be in do you want to be leading or in second i think you have to be leading there's always a wreck but one to go and then the race is over so i think flanny's got to be in this position chase elliot jumped out of line that was his likely his only opportunity is he's gonna get almost three wide there with the 13. tries to get help he tries to get that help from ty dillon now everyone fighting for every position down the back stretch for the final time huge push from hamlin here comes newman um he saved it he saved it that's gonna give that 12 card chance to get another round of newman way out front they're gonna have a big run coming up on this six car down the front straightaway huge block coming right here blaney as they go around the 37 almost upside down so is the 96 parker kligerman here they come they make contact they're side by side it's a photo finish at the line blaney by just a foot is gonna get the win over newman he kind of pushed me below the yellow line i wasn't gonna go below there after what happened in the truck race and kind of got forced down and um just worked out so proud of his team man just survived last couple days and hopefully that was exciting finished thank you guys for sticking around appreciate it the 12 pulls to the inside of the six and he said he wasn't gonna go below it's like he's holding the wheel straight but then there's some contact dale seems like the quarter panel runs into the 12. he almost gets loose and ends up below it yeah actually some contact right there turns to 12 sideways he ends up on the apron correcting and nascar has viewed this official so if you will take me through the final moments of this one i mean just uh close i told eric i said they spent 50 million dollars rebuilding this place they could i should have 350 bucks for the move to start finish line repainted it or something it was a great run for our windham rewards ford everybody route shades roush family racing and all the team effort that went into it was was good um i mean we just came up with that little bit short i mean i don't know what else to say it was just i could have pinched him some more i probably could have took the air or didn't want it i mean you could go back and bench race that three weeks from now but um it was good racing to the end i saw the guy spinning in the back i was hoping there was going to be yellow but there wasn't jeff gordon getting black flagged by nascar here's dale jr to the outside of dave blaney for second spot mayfield pushes him along in the draft still they're still there to the outside for the lead in turn four [Applause] rockets to [Applause] tony stewart will be black flagged by nascar black flag for tony stewart for going below the out of bounds line clear all clear and tony stewart is in second spot with a million dollars on the line okay 27 but you're all clear all clear here comes bobby lavonte he's got a million dollars on the line as well it's michael waltrip who's pushing him toward the front and the body's underneath the yellow line on the back stretch bobby labonte looking for some help trying to get up there his teammate tony stewart has never answered the black flag and they're four wide back between the wallace boys here they come turn four final lap of the pepsi 400 michael waltrip in second but it's going to be dale earnhardt jr using lessons learned from his father to go from sixth to first and score the victory of the pepsi 400. that's uh that's unbelievable yes you guys celebrate you love you man that was beautiful very very nice junior you're happy all right look at that smile back at daytona where the pepsi 400 spectators are enjoying a firework show on independence weekend had a little fireworks at the finish of this one too involving tony stewart was racing johnny benson in the ten car looks like he just gets a really good run on the tent car starts to cut underneath him ten car comes down a little bit that's a tough call benny it is a tough call but tony stewart clearly was underneath the yellow line now the decision that you've got to make is did johnny benson force him down there or did did he go down there of his own free will and he forced that that angle he sure drove him down there vincent kind of ran him down there and tony stewart did not back off the gas he gets down below the yellow line nascar black flags him that's craig zipadelli tony stewart's crew chief the man in the middle is gary nelson the winston cup series director and the man with his back to you is the team owner joe gibbs to me it looked like if tony would have got out of the gas there it would have been a wreck to avoid getting down there joe's um argued with his share of referees in the course of his time he's got his hands full there matt yoakam has more matt well the fireworks do continue down here allen i spoke to greg zippidelli tony's crew chief right before gary nelson from nascar walked up he said we know he was forced down there by the 10. we saw it on the video the first time that's what tony also told us but we have to get our point across to nascar we are hoping that we can get some video to show gary nelson and just then gary nelson walked up the coach joe gibbs is also pleading the case for the 20 team very very forceful as you can see he is talking to gary nelson gary is listening but they're hoping to get this resolution here resolved uh in their favor can montoya and hamlin do the two by two tango or will harvick shove mcmurray to victory lane white flag in the wind one lap to go ecr engines at the front of the field working together and looking good the big question both those guys they have to be on fumes as far as fuel the one and the 29. i don't like that there's a little bit nervous getting a big lead out here you got to be careful but with these guys two by two behind them it might work staying to the inside the two leaders have no drafting help but they are scooting away from the pack three corners to go now harvick he'll keep pushing him and he'll get over here trying to make the slingshot on him as soon as he knows that he doesn't have to worry about that third place he probably will try to make a move although i don't know if it'll do him any good or not last chance through the trials here they come home he got it he timed him perfect where did he see what happened he got him wiggling a little bit larry through the truck got him a little bit loose and that's what won the race for him when he went across the back of his bumper got him a little loose open the door now what was felix all cranked up about uh well i think he thinks the 29 went below the line and i don't i don't really have a comment because i didn't see anything you know i was i was more concerned with with side drafts in the 29 than where we were on the racetrack so um you know you live for those moments i'll tell you you know coming off of turn four daytona trying to get to the start finish line and then same thing here i mean that's just what that's what that's what every kid dreams of getting to do all right congratulations on a great day thanks all right thank you very much jeff let's take a look as we just watched what about the felix savannah's accusation about the yellow line yeah i don't think it's gonna you know hold water this time i really don't i think you know kevin got position on him excuse me and as he was moving up i mean he got pushed down just a little bit you're not allowed to go but he is he's already ahead of the leader he can go where he needs to go and if you come to the start finish line he's not below the yellow line he's on top of it but clearly it was his choice he was he had already advanced his position he was leader of the race at that time so i don't think nascar's gonna have a problem with this you gotta know eric averill is super hungry he had so many chances to win races hadn't been at a full one off i think he'd get some help from behind he's going to be aggressive one more time around well they have enough fuel their teammate ran out of gas into the woods [Music] the caution won't come out if it will not affect the end of this race we'll see if nascar will throw it if they have to get to the drivers to make sure they're okay they would throw a costume but right now they're still green look at that house doesn't have any help he's going to get up here and give a help give a push to the team but he doesn't have any help behind him alvaro he goes to the outside the 41 is out of gas comes out at four does he have enough gas to get to the finish line alvaro all the way to the bottom of the track eric galvarolla is going to win in talladega and we're gonna look back now on that caution everyone by the way is out of their cars only the nine of chase elliott and the 32 of matt dominidetto they're going to go to the infield care center [Music] yeah you see 42 and larson trying to push matthew benedetto through that kurt bush led 108 laps today but ultimately coming up just short on fuel there how difficult is the task of trying to save fuel while also leading this race yeah i was trying to use all the information i could with my guys telling me about how the other teammates were lifting what their fuel mileage looked like and then you don't want to conserve too much and draw the gap of our cars back to the other guys and so i was trying to do what i could to manage the fuel and there was two missed calls about nascar at the end why would we have an extra yellow flag lap beyond me the track was ready to go and at the end you know once we cross the white flag if there's a wreck and an ambulance needs to be dispatched i've been on the other side of that where i was racing coming back to win the race and i said well we had to dispatch an ambulance there was two cars dead in the water down there chase elliott's safety is of my concern so it was the 32 car so it's a human call there's there's rules that need to be stricter at the end of these races but man what a monster ford led a lot of laps i tried to stay positive i said you know there's gonna be restarts at the end we need to save fuel i did everything i could in my power on my checklist just gotta thank doug yates for the power to lead all these laps today it's a very different talladega for me i really enjoyed leading the race working with my teammates i'm really happy as stuart haas car won but the four of us have never seen so much synergy and we knew we were gonna have to race when we got to kansas just would have been nice to have the win we're here to win that's what monster energy wants thanks to those guys that's what gene haas wants thanks to gene tony stewart everybody but there was two human element calls there at the end i don't know why we ran an extra lap under yellow and why there wasn't the yellow for a dispatch of an ambulance yeah i think nascar will give him all the reasons he wants for those two problems that extra yellow i've been on i've been in situations like that too where you're wondering why they're doing what they're doing and they'll give him reasons if he wants them and that nascar wants to get on going back green as quickly as he can there's a reason they didn't throw the green sooner and as far as not throwing the caution and letting the race end you know first right that's something they've not done in the past but it's also something that has been an issue and nascar has said okay we're going to try to address it if we can get a finish under checkered that's what we want to do it is not consistent with what nascar has done but but it is what nascar said they were going to try to do
