hey everybody welcome back to Steve small lemon saloon thanks for coming back I got a little uh a little splasher on the bottom of your screen right there for my website Steve small into saloon doc Tom check that out when you get a chance I'm just taking the valve cover off of this engine right now so I can show you something that is a very critical very important before you start adjusting your valves we got the valve cover off now and we got the spark plug pulled out put those aside I used to work with a small engine mechanic many years ago I'm not going to mention his name because I don't want to embarrass him or anything like that but he worked at the next bench to me and he was just about ready to start adjusting the valves the others he had the spark plug pulled out he had the piston that top dead center now just so you know piston that top dead center most people know this if you look if you have your spark plug out and you look down the spark plug hole and then turn your engine over you can see the top of the piston you can see where it's down and then you can see right where it's at the very highest point that's called TDC top dead center so he had it there and he was he had his fuel gauges in one hand wrench in the other hand he was just about ready to dive in there and start doing that I don't know why I did this to be honest with you but I was just looking at them and I I reached over and I grabbed the rocker arms these are your rocker arms right here I grabbed them and move them and they were tight I couldn't wiggle them at all and I said Timmy those rocker arms are tight and he looked at me and he went duh that's why I'm adjusting the valves and I said yeah but is it feels like it's not on the right stroke is it on the right stroke he says it's at top dead center the Pistons at top dead center that's where you adjust the valves and I said yes I know but there's two top dead center 'z compression stroke or not is it on the compression stroke and he looked at me and he said what the hell are you talking about I said well roll look down there with a flashlight again look at that piston roll your engine over so the piston goes all the way down and all the way back up now to top dead center again now look at those arms now they're loose that's the compression stroke that's the stroke that you want to use right there for adjusting your valves well he looked at me like a deer caught in the headlights I'm not kidding he was literally like this.what and I'm thinking I didn't say it out loud but I'm thinking the same thing in my head where I'm like what you've been a small engine mechanic for 20 years and you didn't know that I was absolutely shocked I get it for somebody who has never done this before but for somebody who's been a small engine mechanic for 20 years hmm if you're looking for a video on how to adjust the valves beyond this point right here back to my channel back to my playlists I got some videos in there for you to show you actually how to do that that is really critical that you do that before you adjust the valves on any four-stroke engine if you accidentally do it on the wrong stroke your engine will probably run but it'll run absolutely terrible so that is very important that you guys know that I thought to myself well 20 year veteran a small engine mechanic didn't know that well maybe there's some of y'all out there that didn't know that too so I thought this was a really important video for me to share with you guys you know what on that note why don't you share the video with some of your friends - a lot of people don't know this and it is really important put some comments down right underneath this video let me know what you think subscribe to my channel if you already happened guys I'd really appreciate it if you'd give me a thumbs up give me that like button on that I really just trying to save you guys some money and on this one right here gonna save you from some frustration to you guys looking for something else to watch I know you're gonna like this video right here to click on that one next til the next video Stevo
