[Music] hey friends welcome in uh Sarah and I are here for beyond the sun uh we've been trying to play games that are in the uh Board Game Geek top 100 lately and this game is one of the ones that I think Sarah's the most interested in Sarah is space is a space nerd and um this is a game that she is uh is definitely into risto nice to see you by the way uh I bet you it's 4 in the morning where you are that's my guess um so uh that's pretty yeah rist to is like halfway around the world so kind of halfway so you know um it's three it's three oh I was close you know I said four and I was like I feel like that's too too much but anyway still early true so um this game is all about leaving the Earth for space goodbye Earth it feels it feels shockingly real uh in terms of it's like we ruined Earth and we abandon it and go to space instead that's the premise of this game okay that's kind of scary yep now we are out there we all are kind of separate um uh groups of people whack the other groups down not necessarily into the deep space Maybe well they'll get that's a minor part of the game but but broadly this is a technology game okay so we're different factions of humans that are trying to uh research new technology in order to um survive and thrive elsewhere in space okay surviving is step one yes thriving is step one million yeah exactly totally true okay so uh what's going to happen is we're each going to alternate taking turns um mostly initially on this part of the board over here so this is our basic space fairing technology we all have that from the get-go um so we're going to be taking actions by placing our little cylinders here on these actions and uh hexagonal cylinders are they hexagonal yes they are okay well or or is it hexagonal I'm going to say I'm going to say hexagonal just to just to tilt you just like I'm call call it Saul welcome to Saul somebody correct this no no no we're just going to keep saying anyways I know it is but that doesn't tilt you so additionally we can research Technologies here in order to access them now some like these ones down here Advanced Robotics and advanced genetics they just give us some immediate perk but a lot of these are going to have spots on them that allow us to take more advanced actions okay uh in order to do that in order to take these actions I'm going to have to research this technology first and like most games of this type uh where you're you know advancing through Technologies there's a technology tree so in order to get these level two technologies we're first going to have to get level one Technologies in order to get level three we need level two and so on okay so it's primarily a technology game now we don't actually know what these Technologies are we get to kind of pick them as we go and it's the person who gets there first gets to choose okay how much do you want to bet this ends up on the floor 98% chance anyways I bet a 0% chance it ends up on so right now we've got all of these I ends up on the these blue cards here and these blue cards are events that also get resolved by the first person to get there I have no idea whether the events are good bad or otherwise we've never played this game okay then in addition to technology like any good space fairing game there's this board over here um these are ships that we've got okay and they're both they're all level one they can get up to level four though they're represented by our our resource Dice and gradually we're going to be able to move these around the map uh in order to exert control over these systems and then eventually we can also colonize them when we colonize them I would like you to don't say anything I would like chat to describe this icon there what do you think that is what do you think that is I this is when you when you colonize and in the act of colonizing you return military power sh you lose your ships Exile everyone else and kind of take it over permanently okay but I want to know what you think that icon looks like um I think it actually looks like hey no no no wait there's nothing in chat I don't know if Mom we only got risto and Mom in here right now I don't know if they if they heard us at all um we can ask again okay sure I think it I think I actually know what it is and it's not what I said earlier but can you sit still you're able to do that or properly or something adjust your stool so you can research like reach the game without you don't have to do that just like I don't want you leaning this is a vintage stool it's going to break show me thing about airplanes okay I mean the pressure true true you know what uh we're doing this thing on airplanes at school so I I picked uh the twin otter I'm working on it with kzia and I never saw that coming specifically wrote mhm um uh like I specifically wrote this is not the animal it's not an not an utter not a literal otter yeah got it looks like a building you failed me I also think it's buildings it's like little like space bubbles glass bubbles I also think alternatively this could be a boot you crush them beneath your heel I think it's but I think it's I think it's bu let me let me I think that it's like mountains you know mountains or it could be a UFO beam taking all your ships away okay what make make a UFO beam sound let me hear your best UFO beam sound it's lifting you up from the backyard abducting you what's it sound like this is too much you can't do it you would do that in private you know it's my best amazing well I love it I love it I failed you rude she makes noises like me no hers actually broadly resemble the thing yours are have you heard mom make a laser sound yeah that was vaguely like a laser I don't know what mom's is but it is I know a laser sound like you know uh like um uh like like let's segue nicely into playing beyond the Sun so segue yeah how do you sp sooo let's seu into playing beyond the Sun that sounds so we can't access any of these Technologies I am the start player I will be this the first player for forever it just determines how many rounds we play okay so what I'm going to do is I'm just going to try this out I'm going to do this action here I'm going to go here okay and and optionally I can turn a uh a population into a ship which I think I'm going to do which feels like a mistake but I'm going to do it anyways and then I can jump two so I can move a ship like one two to deep space for instance space or I could move multiple ships so I'm going to move two ships over here to Barnard's star now I can't colonize this but I am there and I do control it so I do get to place out a Farm uh outpost on it which gets you nothing it doesn't get me anything yet all right but it's gonna it's going to get me things eventually yeah eventually I I choose to believe now wait wait wait is that when I I think that when I put this out I get to do this it's when I put the Outpost out I get to I think that's when you colonize no that's the colonize bonus right colonization let's make sure we get that right cuz we've never played this game there there might be some you know things um Mom says Hey Now what is happening right now well we're harassing you because of your questionable you know yeah when I gain control I get to do that that's right so I built a system or I I I gain control of that system and then I that means I can turn one Supply into a population I'm to do should make a horse noise mom can make a decent animal sounds are like her forte everything else is like danger territory a dad sound maybe I don't know that I'm good but I know the mom isn't okay so I took an action I took the I took the build a build a thing and then jump to action I'm not done my turn me so wait okay I've come over here I've gained control of Bernard Star which is when I gain control I get to build a farm outpost on it and I get to turn one Supply into a population which I did okay now that was my the my action there actually a really good turn reference for this um so I did my action now I do a a production so I can produce either population or or I can trade resources which basically requires tons of ore and I can only do one of these uh just one so I'm going to pick ore production not because it makes sense but because I have no idea what I'm doing so I'm going to produce one ore and as I build these I would produce say two ore for instance I I understand this totally sounds like what would be in an ad what does this oh this this song I told you right this we're a playlist that's like like short Technology based uh sounds that would be for like in a you know you're doing you're reviewing a camera or something and doing like a some Boll one of those okay let's move these up slightly so that they can be on camera so these are our achievements the game ends when three achievements have been claimed or three discs have been placed don't do it yet okay so what's our top achievement terraforming Transcendence okay I guess close um so the first person who's got uh level four technology gets to place out a a disc on there as soon as three discs are placed on the achievements the game ends but you can only place claim one achievement per turn so we're very far away from the achievements um but you do have to take them as soon as you earn them all right so what are you going to do Sarah this action you're going to take a basic space fairing action and place a population cube out on a technology you're going to take Advanced genetics an 11-year-old with Gene you know editing what could go wrong so what happens uh so I immediately automate one Farm yeah one farm and turn a supply Cube into a population hey I didn't even spend that popul okay it's cool sweet this song is the most promo of all the ones we've listened to you're totally no like I can I can totally see like it rotating I like double feature yeah totally yeah you because you live on YouTube because you're young you you're just used to it okay so what are you going to produce population or or trading or or yeah it's like a for your canoe an ore that's what these are that okay you're producing ore yeah okay I did so as well but only cuz I only had one I don't know what what to actually do with it um obviously I think we can just forget about checking for the achievements for a while cuz it's going to be a hot minute before we get there right yeah okay so um I and I get this forever that's going to get kicked out I am very surprised that you took Advanced genetics yeah actually I thought I was going to go War I I thought I don't know what I thought you were going to do but yeah I kind of thought like when we played Twilight inscription you were like hyper militaristic I kind of thought you were going to go for that narrow beam laser and just start you know shooting me in the face with it I'm going to also take this basic space fairing action and and I really want to do this one because then I get to automate another farm so I think I am I'm going to copy you I'm going to also come for advanced genetics I get to automate a farm which means now I can get more Supply and then I can turn a supply Cube into a population which I will do and then I'm going to choose uh population growth as mine so I get to take one from each of these columns the left most column and this rightmost one but you can see Sarah of course my column A is almost empty already so here go get a level two technology yeah why do you think I got that extra or well cuz you thought it through I just took an or cuz I was like this seems like a good idea okay so you're going to pay to or to research a level two technology now let's get this right cuz we haven't done this before which one are you going to research so you could research um I guess you have to research this one because you can't research this one because you need both these Technologies to do it so you get to resolve that event I know that happens I don't know what they do uh what Tyler Lee entrepreneur Prodigy it says you gain one or I only spent one what that's illegal okay and then it says then choose and remove a tier one Guild cover TI below the basic space fairing box each faction can now access the uncovered Guild so you get to choose do you want to it's a tier one so you get to remove either the terraforming Guild or the professor's Guild that gives us more spaces that we can place on and it shows you um what those actions are so terraforming lets us colonize a system for four or so the professor guilds you can just Huck that aside so now for four or and lose a population you can research a level three technology I I I don't have any plans yeah totally okay no no let me talk to you about how this works so you did that so you have to you're going to have to research uh an economics technology because that was the tech that you already researched coming into this right you came you your prerequisite for this was that you had Advanced genetics which is green that's economics so what you're going to do is um you're going to uh reveal cards from the deck until you get two cards that are green okay and some cards are hybrid okay and you're looking at the left side of the card so that would count as green Android destroy God okay that wouldn't so you just set that aside you really aren't very good at this finding green cards thing my first one was green all right be quiet there it is hey Mass cloning so Mass cloning what could go wrong okay so so um you're going to pick one of those what the Destroyers Sarah wants to pick the terrifying Advanced destroyers technology but also Mass cloning it's very lucrative to to CL own people on mass you know so generally Sarah just so you know so economic Technologies like the ones you're researching typically involve food production population and ore collection scientific is or production automation research actions and or bonuses military is ship building movement and upgrades then this is kind of right and Commercial is colonization that's yellow is colonization ship movements and flexible actions interesting taking MK clothing do I put it here yep and then this one would actually we'll have to do a better job next time the cards that you didn't pick as well as the other cards I put them on the yeah but we should we they should go there they're supposed to go randomly but the other ones above them don't get shuffled we'll call that close enough all right now I can go Mass cloning and you can't you can so this is an action space you can take it say immediately I get to automate one of these hey but that's what I did last time but less goodly and you can gain a population which column it always comes from your leftmost column you would only take from I mean this one says right one of them said right M can't remember which one usually when you're adding them back you add from the right but I don't know take from the right M okay well maybe that was a special technology hey look it they didn't end up them Flo nice the basic rule is it comes from the left and then of of course things can bend to the rules right so what are you going to produce cuz you took a technology action as your first thing right War so you're going to get one or please but now you have enough to get another technology I don't like that I don't care for that at all so I could go research this but I of course don't I get the immediate benefit but I don't get the like the event for instance yeah okay and um the spot beside you on on that technology track there what do you notice about it on basic space fairing uh it costs an or it costs an or so it would cost me three ore which I haven't got um ha you can't actually do that you're exactly right I can't do it so I could research another level one technology though which is what I'm going to do and I'm going to research um Advanced robotics stop stealing my actions so I get to automate uh or mine and I immediately gain that third ore that I need and then I'm going to um I'm going to produce I think I'm going to produce population so I get two population I haven't achieved any cool achievements and it's your turn what are you going to do same thing as you oh here's your ore you dirty rotten cheater I can't believe you copied me like that and now I have more points than you have whatever points are for people who want to win okay I'm taking the research at level two action I need to choose what production I want you're right I'll just take population one of these if you have to okay so I'm going to research a level two technology now the question is do I want this cool both one or do I want this one I mean you you've also got both so I don't know that it matters I'm just going to take this one cuz makes me feel better okay so this is the other see how it's got a light border is the other they're always here one okay so I can gain a population which wasn't really what I wanted to gain it says then choose and remove a t tier one Guild cover well I wonder which one I'm going to remove the only remaining one terraforming so you can spend four ore and remove a population to colonize instead of doing it with military but you have to control the place in order to do it right all right um so I get to uh I get either green or blue Technologies here cuz both of them match right that did not work that matches that works EXO alloy refinement and human experiments okay so upgrade up to two ships by one level upgrade one ship by two levels so in either case it's like um this the whole thing's immediate this giv us actions to destroy population to research Technologies I don't want to do human experiments I'd rather get the EXO alloy refinement so we're going to do that oh don't forget to put a population up yeah I'm getting there okay which of course you would have to have in your supply to do it right so immediately upgrade one of your ships by two levels I'm going to upgrade this one to a level three okay and then automate one ore Refinery and I can spend an ore to put out a oh I spent two ore for this technology I forgot to pay that but I have this one remaining ore which is really useful cuz I can use it to take to research a level one technology that's sweet so so um I'm going to oh no it says you might choose one oh you're right okay I missed that so I'm not going to do that because I would rather automate the or Refinery I think and I'm done I get to produce I'm going to produce or I get to produce two now here we go oh it tells you a reference here of what they do the technology guide what are you going to do be sad hello how is everyone John we're doing well Sarah's being unpredictable yeah she didn't go for immediately for punch me in the face technology oh there it is there it is an or and upgrade one ship by one level you only have one ship does that make you feel not strong no okay which one are you producing on oh uh population or population or or or or yeah the population you're out of ones from a i in see I'm just reading about colonization oh you're going to colonize you're going to go to the ter wait you don't have enough four what do you mean you need four why do I need four col oh I guess that's stinky you mean like you [Music] a how's your how's your your stuff there your water good good good you're right I do need four four ore and destroy a population in order to colonize that's rough so when you when you just when you remove it like that you put it on a it goes It goes on the rightmost supply column with an empty space so mine would go on B yours would go on C right cuz you got you got to cheesily take that one off at the start of the game so okay wait so I can't colonize guda what guda yeah you said guda earlier you said guda and then you said cheesily I think you have an obsession with cheats who doesn't can you blame me me oh Anderson has a worship system really yeah how come this's one time we did a cahoot and he named himself the cheese man that's I like his confidence he listen nothing wrong with knowing what you like okay that that is good I am happy for him uh I'm going to research a level one technology and I'm just going to research terraforming so immediately I can turn a population into a thing in deep space bang just a ship and then from now on I can jump four and I can use three or in order to colonize all right here go don't forget that you have other actions available like you can do Mass cloning or narrow beam lasers right then jump three let's go so one ore and then you can turn return a population like into a level two ship so that would happen here or on a place that you control like the shipyard system up at the top there which you don't have obviously and then you have jump three so you can move your ships any number up to three right I would move one personally but it's up to you I'm going to move this one to deep space that's two one two three okay you sure mhm really actually yeah like you can you can take this over and then you get to put out two things right and this way I would be back on so you sure you want to keep acting like that Dad no I'm going to get can you put these yes I can I'm going to do or production to or please okay nice well done [Music] okay I am going to try this out I'm going to use the terraforming Tech and I'm going to uh pay three ore whoa did I do my production last time I didn't I didn't right cuz I would have two more ore so I'm going to spend three ore uh and remove a population so he goes back over here on column B in order to call this spot okay and then um I let's get this right I think I lose the military power right you're allowed to return more than required which I'm not going to do I'm going to return this one guy the level oh do I want to keep yeah I'm going to return my level three cuz that's what I needed on there okay and then other space ships get exiled into deep space okay uh I get to take this system card what happens with this does it stay on it forever I don't know probably goes back well this is under my control so presumably not it says take the system card along with the Outpost disc on it okay so I have Bernard Star producing food for me forever um you also Place Another production D disc match ing the systems specialty on the card so I have two food production on Bernard Star and if you did it on that one you have to choose one of them okay oh wait maybe I don't choose one of those for when you put that out maybe you didn't no cuz it shows if it system has multiple Specialties the player chooses which disc to place you give me that production back you want this one back no the food yeah okay sorry I got that wrong I didn't know first play and all that and then I gained the colonization bonus yeah um which says that I can turn a supply into a population which I will do and then I can gain two ore and then I get to put out a new system here from the a deck T Gardens star oh my gosh that don't you don't want to look at that I don't think you like it I don't think you want it you don't want it you don't want to go there it's terrible from now on Research type actions cost you one fewer ore that doesn't sound valuable to get early in the game I don't think you should consider it my turn you're going to build a ship so you can optionally turn a population into a level one ship no you're not going to do it so you're just going to jump too you get to put out that farm it seems illegal okay and then what are you producing oh wait actually I wait I didn't produce again last turn wait a minute I am going to put out a ship I can jump to yes that's right okay you're right ready to colonize now but that'll have to wait what are you going to produce we have to not miss production I've done it now why is this off here uh or so you get two R actually I'm going to do population okay so you get two dream mhm all right so I have decided that clearly my I had all this time to deliberate how was I going to Vanquish Sarah and win this game and I've decided that clearly what I need to do is take the professor's Guild action and spend my four or and return a population in order to colonize my star no no no no no no I'm researching a level three action oh this one you're destroying me what you mean onu speaker for the colonies remove a tier 2 Guild cover below the basics spr box everybody keep this in front of you for a point basically I get a point and you know I don't get anything special just for me we've had we've revealed three out of 12 cards and four of 12 have the basic things on them we've gotten all of them so far by complete coincidence so the technocrat guilds lets you research a level one action and basic space fairing action okay and The Meta science research level four that's going to be a while away we're just going to clear this one off because we're never doing level four not for a hot minute and then I get a level three technology now it needs to be I'm pretty close to well look at the requirements here two of three you have to have at least two um level three Technologies to get a level four right so this is Android Armada that sounds cool green subatomic fabrication so immediately choose twice you may s like the same one population to level two guys or or Supply to level two or Supply to population that's cool uh and then uh a four or for turn a supply to a level four and then jump three this is like the dominate or that's the Dominate the map action yeah four or seems like a lot or subatomic fabrication automate one immediately automate a thing and then I can okay from now on your automations can be taken from either track when automating or placing on systems so I could just like put out a farm on a nonfarm spot I want that one cuz I don't know what I'm doing actually cuz the other one seems really mean and I don't want to be mean do I yeah we're going to be peaceful mhm all right well I get that technology so I immediately automate one thing um well I'm going to not have any Supply if I don't do that soon I'm going to do that and I can turn a supply into a population and then I gain an ore and then I can jump one I'm going to jump one to here I get to put out one of these things and it can come from either track because I'm a cheater you are a cheater so I'm going to take it from the or track and then um oh when automating or placing on systems cool um so that feels nice I like that and then I'm going to produce and I'm going to produce ore do I get two cuz I need ore apparently becomes quite difficult you know you need lots and it's your turn what are you going to do I want to see an event that isn't one of the basic ones I was really hoping for that there and I flubbed it one's up you can colonize and then get a discount of one or for all research actions for the rest of the game yes please I think that's worth doing like that seems super good oh yeah cuz you don't have terraforming yet but whatever you'll save the or here like okay so for or you have to lose a guy that goes back to C and then you have to pay you need three military so these guys go away they go back on B right and interesting thing about that sah of course is that if you gain those cubes back then they're easier for you to get right CU they go like further on into your track and then you get to put out another Farm on that and keep it so it's worth five points and it says from now on nice from now on Research type actions cost one fewer ore so I my understanding is that's any research whether it's tier one tier two because it shows an X right yeah like when you're playing slay the Spire you use like Whirlwind or mal mhm yeah it's an X yeah spends the let's put out the one for eight oh you're right I'm sorry serious I'm very serious about or you're serious from Harry Potter maybe maybe both upgrade up to two ships by one level when you claim that one that's kind of cool oh mine is worth Five Points okay so I have some or I need to do some production you do you're right four so how many did you get two two nice okay I'm going to try out this technocrats Guild so it says I can place out a population on a level one technology so I'll put it out here right I gain one ore and then take a basic and I upgrade I upgrade one of these by one level so I'm going to upgrade this guy to level two and then yeah take a basic space fairing action without no that was that was like that was just this right the immediate from getting that technology and then I take a basic space fairing action without moving my Pawn so without moving my Pawn what I am going to do is research this um so I'm going to spend two or to take a level two research action put out a population Cube here and it says experimental prototypes uh when I put a thing out on here like the video and subscribe and click the Bell there you go yeah was I supposed to do this when I put that was when you initially put that out yeah but I didn't so do it now there wasn't one on that one okay so my event here is experimental prototypes it says each faction picks up the leftmost supply Cube and rolls it like a die okay so why don't you do that first or let's do it at the same time three two one hey so I got a supply so it says I got a three ship it says if you got a fly you put the cube back and you gain two or okay and it says a ship or a population oh that's a level one so place the ship as a as a level two on Soul you just got a free level two population or level two ship I know but whatever I got two or and like I kind of got just they were just sort of like get out of here well now oh the faction who triggered this event May roll up to two times I'm going to keep my or I'm just going to I'm going to be done with it I'll keep my ore it's fine uh and then I get a technology here which needs to be science so blue SpaceTime anomaly studies or a multic colony Symposium so this lets you spend two or to put a level three technology out which for Sarah is one or that's instead of four or and lose a population it's one you have it's it's good for you too though then it's skip your regular production phase this turn unless you have two or more colonized systems oo I don't care SpaceTime anomaly systems or studies rather I can immediately jump to which three or jump two and then research a level two technology that's kind of sucky if you control three or more locations after the jump you may research level three instead controlling three or more is hard cuz our board only has five spots right well I guess Soul counts as well soul soul counts as well one two three that's not controllable 1 2 3 four five there are five spots um oh do I give you the multic colony symos Symposium you know what you're going to be doing you're just going to be researching level three Technologies like every 4 seconds no cuz I can't I mean I I need it to be cheaper as well right so I'm going try it all right all right all right my turn my turn you need to do production I do need to do production and I'm going to take population growth cuz I have like no population left all right one or to research a level two uh-huh I don't think the multi Colony Symposium is really all that good I don't think you want it take can't okay and then you do production um you can't do any level three technology research yet I can I mean if I you need both right but you'll get there soon you'll scale that is is the truthiness hey and then I I'm not going to tell you what happens next fabulous that is confidence inspiring you know I'm not going to tell you what happens next it is fabulous okay because I'm scared I'm taking that action I'm doing this one I'm doing it means I did you do your production yeah yeah okay so I don't have two colonized systems so I am going to skip my production but for two or which I paid I can research a level three cuz I have both of these Technologies so a Dyson Sphere do you know what a Dyson Sphere is a dice sphere no a Dyson Sphere do you know what it is no it's like a like a theoretical idea about building a structure around a star like encase a star in a sphere so you can Harvest its energy that's pretty wild it is pretty wild it also like like think of how big the sun is compared to say earth like it would be like a the like unbelievably large engineering effort anyways it says place this card above the exploration board then draw the top card from either system deck and place it to its right to its right starting on your next turn the action below is available to all factions so starting on my next turn pay five or and lose three population to colonize this system without using any ships but you do not get to place any discs on it o do you want to get wrecked sure okay if you want to get wrecked easy aquari that's that's the that's the system we're going to have easy aquari okay and we'll just put that over here so for five or and lose three population it just immediately colonize it uh Y and then I get to do my level three technology here needs to be cion blue or red capital ship or deep space Mega structures that's on brand with the Dyson Sphere this is blue yeah yeah but it's it's both prerequisites go into it right so it's blue or red cuz you look at the outputs of these ones oh okay so I found capital ship or deep space Mega structures capital ship immediately turn a supply into to a level four and then jump one and then going forward there's an action on it for three or you can turn a population into a level four or optionally in addition you can spend two ore to gain a level two ship and then you jump three for the deep space Mega structures you immediately turn a supply into a level three ship in deep space and then jump one and then for four or you can get a level two ship in deep space and then research a level three technology so do you think your card would work for that too from now on Research type actions cost you one fewer what's your card called Terra something T and star it's not listed in the clarification so I'm going to assume yes I cannot take this one the deep space Mega structures I can't give you a discount on the coolest technology we've found so I'm going to take the capital ship by two levels if you upgraded this one you'd be able to colonize that with just that ship I don't know if that's a good move but it's an idea also so that we know Sarah this Shipyard system is a spot that we can control which gives us a thing and lets us build ships up here instead of down here just so you know but you've taken it says Shipyard system non-controllable I guess it doesn't count for controll then I suppose so there's only four spots on the board that can be controlled I guess in our two-player game there's more spots on the back of that board for the three or four player game so then you may choose to either automate one ore thing or spend an or to research a level one technology which would be zero for you but you have all the level one Technologies so I guess that makes it easy and then what are you going to produce more how much did you get two so I have this problem where I got to go farming like hard I really do cuz like look I'm going to get if I produce I get one tempting but I'm not going to do it do the one ore for a population no one ore lets you decommission a ship yeah so that might be something you want to do also if you leave this empty your thing stays on it until I come steal it which would be the next turn but for briefly moment fleeting moment it stays empty um no I'm I'm just going to leave it as is I'm not going to do that third one we got 61 signy when you place a thing on here you re you refill your ore until you have three so you want to have zero basically and from now on you may pay three or to trade you can basically do this action without taking a resource trade you just can do it as part of your turn but none of us have done it so far so I'm not sure how useful that is anyways that was my terraform um do I get any technol or do any do any of those things no do I have all six level two technologies no do I have a level four no do I have four colonized things no okay here go what are you going to do I like this game so far ooh getting a no no no Sarah's trying to get all all six level two technologies choose a level one ship or a level two ship each faction May gain a ship of That Power from their supply it place in right get him upgraded that guy was different than the other ones I had okay so that was the event and then you're researching a yellow Technologies right only yellow nope count uh oh modular Fleet yes and Supply Outpost so which one are you going to pick goes back randomly H I wonder where this is going to go build up to three different ships or upgrade one by one level than jump two I mean this one's way more useful for you now I think but you pick whatever you want the last thing I think you and I want to do is build ships like there was a there was a thing in the rules earlier where it said if you want when you're colonizing you can choose to optionally return additional ships to the supply like if you have them on there you can you need three but if you want to colonize with eight go for it and I was like why would you ever want to do that and now I I understand because like you know getting them back as population could definitely be useful okay so listen we got to we got to you get to jump too you're upgrading that guy to level three and then you jump two where you where you jumping one jum that guy out of there just so he's useful you could return both of them when you take that two and you get to place out a thing on it you can place either one it's you're choosing I would take that one for sure nice and refill your or till you have three so you gain one ore as a placement bonus and you're done production yeah what are you producing I think your hair knocked all the cards off the board what are you producing population actually counted as zero population okay so we're going to talk for a second here the game ends when we well it doesn't end immediately but it the end game would basically play around more when three markers have been placed Sarah took the warlord she sniped it from me the turn before I was going to get it I was extremely impressed and in case there was any question about it there's one that you get all three level two technologies all six level two technologies and that's an achievement Sarah just researched her fifth of six last turn I have three there's I think Dad's G to get it 0% chance that I'm beating her there I think Dad's going to get it okay and we have a really unfortunate situation that I don't want to talk about yet you're going to call your fourth system and I'm going to research my yeah but that's not the thing I want to talk about that's upsetting or the disappointing but whatever I am going to colonize my fourth one um and probably the smart play is to colonize this one right that's the only one you can col no I can colonize this one right yeah you you'd have to spend or that you don't have and three population I mean who would want to spend that but I can't colonize cuz I I I have to go do the expensive colonization of the terraforming Guild I don't want want to do that actually you still can how I could do that but I'm not going to I don't want to do that one I think it's less valuable for me but you could do the colonization still by taking the terraforming Guild action yeah yeah that's why I said I don't want to do that why cuz I'm poor I don't want to pay you have enough to do that one so why but I don't want to pay for it because I'm poor then I'm confused I I'm I just I don't want toay he I would like to pay three or not four or is that confusing no I mean it following gain one or per location you control to a maximum three I control one turn one Supply into population for every two colonized systems you have so that would also be one and I can optionally put out a guy and then jump two that isn't that exciting or I can just put out a guy and jump two and then for four or you can research X is the number of your colonized systems plus one so I could research a level four technology with planetary scale research even though that thing doesn't exist oh no all right so I can put out one of these as a level two do I even want to do that I don't want to do that I don't want more guys out there well you're still going to beat me to everything Sarah no I'm not I think you might I'm going to take or production as my thing you got the planetary scale research so you're just going to research a level four and I'm going to lose why does that make you lose cuz I get a level four technology yeah which is worth more points than both of mine I don't know how much they're worth it's a question mark but I mean you have a bunch of technologies that are worth points that I don't have right I don't think and you who has an achievement you two who's increase its production level this can be done at any time during the turn that faction loses two points oh so you gain production permanently but at the cost of two points at the end of the game I don't think that's worth it for me at this point earlier that would I would have done that like in a heartbeat okay so you get a red technology a military technology and then we know you're getting the second uh Victory thing teranova Cruisers that sounds comfortable outer sector militia why uh cuz I'm looking for a specific thing you don't know what's in there we've never played this game no I'm looking for for uh uh like a something that lets you automate uh but I think you're unlikely to find that in you're going to find that in green or blue more than red right I know I was hoping that's fair so teranova Cruisers give you an action spot you don't immediately do anything this would let you turn your last thing into a ship I think you should do it no the tanov Cruisers let you colonize lower the power requirement by once so you would have to have fewer ships on the board which isn't well I mean I would let you do this with your level three that you've got there right now for instance I mean I'll just put this out cuz I don't want to turn that thing into a ship yeah I think that's not I mean it's a good good action for you anyway colonize for cheaper I can't do it what are you producing population your last population okay I am in fact going to do planetary scale research I can spend four or knew it to oh hey you get the other victory thing you have all six techs right I can spend four or to get a level four technology which is green or red uh Giga corporations that sounds cool why are you disappointed you can't look look over there who's got more more achievements um don't you need two of three to research it I'm doing this one both right so Giga corporations from now on you may replace achievement discs on your achievements with the other discs at any time at game end you gain points equal to the average level of these two tracks rounded down well that would be a lot better if I had more than zero achievements oh you get one now I get one okay so this is going to be worth like like uh six points or something I'm going to put out this one I guess um are wait wait wait it's an average so it doesn't make a difference then which one I put out I'll put out this one cuz I need population more well the game's going to end well yeah so the way that works Sarah is that cuz we have three achievements completed now um that's what the we go for in a two-player game so the way that this works Sarah is we um play an equal number of turns and then one more round so I started right so you get one more turn and then we then I then we each get one more turn like you get two turns I get one basically and then the game ends so I still get to do my production I'm going to do I'm going to produce population I think can I even do no I'm going to you cheap three ore to colonize or this one upgrade three ship levels you can choose the sh sh same ship or any combination I mean this gives this is essentially wor a point right cuz it's isn't it one point for every three yeah yeah you're probably not using mercenary Fleet right oh you put this the wrong way Mom would be angry oh you didn't they just printed the wrong way or the opposite way anyway that's fine I don't like that shoulder pad it's very it's very like like rude all right what are you going to do which ones do you care I don't think you care really uh upgrade that one two four this two yeah okay so you got one more upgrade and that one to a four okay so you're like super strong in lots of places okay so I get one more turn oh you get to do production cuz you do do you terraform I'm going to spend three ore and lose my last you're going to lose points for that cuz this gives you more what that this gives you points but okay but I'm going to and I'm going to get like eight points from that spot right yeah so I'm going to take this and it says my colonization bonus here is it's wor cost me four so these guys get uh turned back into population okay and it says in two point or it's worth six points two points more if you colonize two systems from deck a by game end which I did so I get eight points for that system did you lose another one how you got you get bored and you idle by like playing with the components like over here and then you drop them every time okay I'm giving you we're almost done I'm giving you there was an ore yeah I'm giving you an ore we'll find it after we're going to find like a pile of ore under Sarah's and we're going to be rich I don't think it's worth that much but I think it's worth all the money in the world oh I guess I get to produce but I don't know if resources are worth anything at the end of the game or anything like that I'm going to I'm going to investigate that while you take your turn maybe I'll even tell you because it's you're taking your last turn of the game you want to make it a a good one you want a min max for sure here right so you get one two and three points for one two or level one two or three Technologies um you get the points specified on the card for level four Technologies uh you get the points shown on your automation track which you're ahead of me on um points for colonized systems and outpost discs on uncolonized systems um I'm taking my action I'm going to get so we just don't get points for anything left over so it doesn't matter what I produce going to get a level three you may got a level three technology yeah let another if this is the last round discard this event oh okay but you do get uh a level three yellow or red yeah yellow or red that's right cuz you're doing this one hi mind Computing that sounds cool automate one thing and jump one that's actually like pretty decent for you stealth terraformers this one yeah you want to immediately cuz having those things out on the on here is worth a point and then if you jump one look just jump this guy to here right cuz then you get to put out another thing you may move your rightmost supply or resource Cube to supply column A that's illegal but you get to put this out which is also worth a point right mhm so I think that was totally worth it and this was worth three that was a big move actually and then I don't think your production matters but I'll let you choose whether you want to get four or or that one last Cube did this come from I think you probably knocked it off your track with your hair is the most likely thing that's my best guess cuz we definitely put one here and we definitely put one out there so I think probably you just knocked it down I don't think I literally don't think it matters here's for if it matters we'll figure it out after okay all right um so that's the end of the game so shall I calculate our scores o yeah I might win I think you you have a really good chance of winning I think I have all my points in colonization and you have all your points in literally everything else oh hey I got I get the other achievement out here and I can put have four and I have four as well right mhm okay and then level two and level three how many level twos do you have six all of them so you get 12 points for that how many do I have three yeah so I get six points uh and then level three Technologies I have three so I get nine points and you have four yeah so you get 12 points and then level uh four Technologies um so I get points equal to the average level of my tracks down here so I have one at 10 and one at sorry tracks of oh no level of your food and or tracks marked one to nine rounded down so I have nine and seven so have 16 I get eight points for that I get zero this let me place these ones on the achievements so that I could get pad that score out right and then yeah you don't get any for level four okay nobody had a private technology did they no yeah it's mentioned here from card bonuses I guess we would get them on as a reward on some of the colonization or something maybe oh so add up all the points on your automation track five oh cuz only the last one's worth worth two so I got three uh and you got five mhm okay uh points for each of your colonized systems as indicated on the bottom of the card I got 11 I Got 5 10 15 23 I was like I already knew I was going to get down well but this is like that's all my points right like you're ahead of me like the tech you did like you doubled mine on level two and almost doubled it on level three and you know so okay um and here also I have more off the board you have more on the board each faction scores one point for each of their uncolonized Outpost discs on system cards or Shipyard system so you get one 2 3 four cuz you're controlling like the whole map now and I get nothing right yeah and then um each non-controllable location oh scores one point for the factions with the highest military power that's one well I get there's two uncontrollable spots ha and that no that's controllable no yes it is look it yeah this one says non-controllable this one says Shipyard system it doesn't say non-controllable but it says the shipyard system is non-controllable no it says this is a shipyard system that's also non-controllable this is just Shipyard system it's controllable because it has to be in order for you to place a thing on it what yeah okay and then event cards that provide points so we put out two of those we didn't lose anything for this neither of us did that and then what do you get for this one for every three power on the board yeah is that all of us get that yeah um so I get one cuz I have five power that sucks you have 7 11 1519 so how much do you got um close this without going over uh six six that's right good girl okay and then uh achievements so what are our achievements I got six you got eight I got eight and you got six yeah okay and then that's everything the P faction with the most victory points is the winner there's a bunch of tie conditions that hopefully we just won't have happen so I'm going to win sit 10 on like it wasn't hard to play it was hard to manage my population mostly yeah I was surprised caught me off guard so what did you think of this game um I give it uh 9,000 out of 10 I nine out of 10 really what it's a good game I like it a nine out of 10 that's the High Praise okay so what did you like about it uh the theme the theme uh I also I like the quality I think it's the quality of what the quality of the feels nice and the ore really the or huh okay what do you have to say so I think this is I'm I'm I don't know I feel like this is probably 10 no no no no this was a game I enjoyed that I would play again would you play it I would I would definitely I you know what it's only 750 like we played this quickly not quickly enough that we can play something else but like for a first play this took us an hour and 40 minutes I think that's really good wait what does it say on the box I have no idea the box is behind it's right here oh there's stuff in there though that's the lid I think oh it says on this side Sarah it says 100 minutes it took us 100 minutes right it took us an hour and 40 so it took us 100 so I think this this is like exactly 100 I I can't decide if this is an eight or 8 out of 10 or or a seven out of 10 I'm going to say that this is a tentative eight I gave you a sheet for your flamigo flamigo and we're playing beyond the Sun and what it's May 29th yeah so I like to write small what do you need to draw for your picture for beyond the Sun um let me wrate the date all right so I think this is an eight out of 10 for me uh I think it's a tenative 8 out of 10 and this might actually be a seven but I would need 7.5 no I'm just going to call it an eight I think I would need to play this again and the reason why is because I think that overall I like this game it's very obvious that this is quite variable and that there's going to be you know different viable strategies each time I think that it does feel a little Rish in terms of the Technologies you get I think some of that probably you you move past when you're a little more familiar with the game and you could research say like a particular category because you're searching for some specific thing but like the number of times I revealed a research piece of research and then it was more valuable to Sarah than me was like extremely frequent right and I don't know that like obviously you don't want it just to be like win more or something you just funnel you know resources to yourself or something but I did feel like it was a little less planful there than I would have liked um and also I have to say in stark contrast to whatever Sarah said which was crazy I don't love the components um I hate small dice these are little like 8 mm maybe 10 mm dice they're fiddly um I like I think small dice are all right yeah I guess for you with your teeny tiny hands you'll see when you're older and then like the components arrived and like I've never received boards that are so warped as these it's like I can I can put my my hand underneath the advanced boards because they're like like they've got like this 1 in Gap at the top uh in the center I guess rather and like overall this thing this is huge this game's monstrous why does this take up so much space on the table like I unfolded this board and it's like you're going to put 12 cards on here and it's the size of our whole table it seems extremely egregious it's kind of weird so I have some like misgivings about the components and stuff like that I mean I wouldn't know how bent these were no you wouldn't but that's a really minor complaint I'll be honest that's like Petty but overall it's sort of like I open this up and it feels a bit drab and Pro Proto typy honestly the cards are really light card stock they're finished not so great the boards were like a crescent you know and it feels like that in like a very unnecessary way this isn't big because it needs to be for legibility the legibility is determined by the cards and we could just fit this in like half the size and like make it work but we didn't for reasons but yeah overall I felt like this was a fun game I enjoyed playing it all right I enjoyed it actually quite a bit did this feel like space yes why because it's it's you know like the travel or what H and kind of like you know like managing these specific resources to me feels like space cuz like I thinking I think that you could say you could okay listen I think imagine a world where instead of these being planets they're farms and you have to drive to them and what they actually produce instead of or is wheat is flax okay I don't think there's anything mechanically here that makes this have to happen in space it could be said in the 1800s you're researching farming technology to improve your flax farming ability right yeah but that would be more boring it's fair I can't I can't argue with that all right this is my drawing so this is the sun in the background I drew rocket ship and these are the people inside let let's let's take a look here I don't know that this doesn't show off very well oh you really can't see the finer details of the people maybe we'll just do the ride in that rocket ship yeah me too be R all right we're all done let's uh stab get our stabby stabs let's stab are we still going to do this in overhead you can't even see the spike okay you can't feel the danger that's going to get me in trouble one day you know all right 3 2 1 good job all right so that brings us to the end of beyond the sun uh what are things we need to talk about I will be playing more Leviathan Wilds uh this Sunday back here I moved it in right as we started stream and okay Sarah's going to get it out uh I I'm going to play more of Leviathan Wilds this uh this coming Sunday uh Leviathan Wilds is a boss battler where you're like teeny tiny humans crawling on these enormous Lev I want to play I heard you the first seven times Sarah apparently wants to play it but probably will not be joining me on Sunday usually it's solo Sundays um next Wednesday what are we going to play uh o Lords of water deep I think let let's check the schedule we have a schedule here we're trying to play a lot of the games in the top 100 on Board Game Geek because we want to see if they're dad's favorite games well this is a game in the top 100 that I haven't played and like I like this but this could let's see let's see the potential seems high for it to be better okay we've got oh aon's end is what we're going to play and then we're going to play Lords of water de the following week aon's end is another game that I haven't played it's like a deck builder it has a creepy monster on the front it does have a creepy monster on the front you're right so uh I will be playing some Leviathan Wilds this Sunday here on YouTube as well as over on Twitch um I mean made a rules error a shameful rules error that uh kind of ruined my last playthrough this past weekend so it will be free of rules errors uh this Sunday and then yes next uh Wednesday we'll be back with aon's end now there's only one there's only one other thing we need to do before we end stream two things we got to wave but look at all this we we keep our uh forbidden candy silica packets here and we add them to a jar in the back uh we said we're going to do something fun for the community when it's full where are we at on getting there it's getting there you should do a marathon stream a marathon stream when when the jar is full we can do that okay so yeah has a random chip it does have a random chip it showed up that way that's okay we're getting there maybe I need to shake it so they fit in more tightly to delay that Marathon it didn't it didn't work like whatsoever it worked the opposite way it might have made them taller yeah so anyways we're working on that we'll get that filled up before already know it can put it back how sure go for it how are we waving today Sarah all
