hello everyone and welcome back to a video here in Microsoft flight simulator 2020 and the one product that I know so many of you have been looking forward to is finally released and available yes Beyond ATC aims to bring realistic air traffic control to Microsoft flight simulator not only by giving you realistic air traffic control instructions as you would get in real life but the ability to communicate with it using your voice and also using worldwide accents to give you a real feel of immersion wherever you are in the world flying your aircraft in this video today we are going to be looking at installing Beyond ATC and configuring it all correctly so that you can get the most out of it this tutorial video will show you step by step how to set all of the program up and start communicating with air traffic control and also taking you through the various different options that are available Within the program so that you are going to get the best out of it we'll also have a look at using both the premium voices or the free included voice packs meaning that there will not be any additional cost to your purchase of Beyond ATC if you don't want there to be installation of the program is relatively straightforward once you have downloaded the product you just install it in the normal way you may get the normal Windows Defender popup but of course it's safe to run once that's finished downloading loing it will also give you the option to run Beyond ATC and it's at that point then that you're going to create an account once you've created that account you'll then be able to log in and the program will tell you that you don't currently have any Beyond ATC product purchased now obviously you are going to have to buy the product if you want to use it so we'll then be taken to the store where you'll be presented with three options there is the standard Beyond ATC there is then beyond ATC supporters pack and then there is the topup premium characters now the Beyond TC basic version is just $2999 and this comes also with 50,000 premium voice characters included the supporters Pack Edition gives you everything that you got in the Beyond TC basic pack but you'll also get access to new upcoming features such as the live traffic injection this feature will of course eventually be rolled out to every everybody but as a Beyond ATC supporter you will get early access to it as the team develop it you'll also get special VIP roles on Discord if you use their Discord server select the version you wish to purchase press the purchase button and a web browser will pop up and uh you'll be able to complete your purchase this then is the main menu first of all then let's take a look at the options now this is pretty self-explanatory but just very quickly to go through things obviously we have a low performance mode so if you are finding that there are issues with your PC turn this on and it will help you with hopefully reducing any uh frame rate performance lag that you might be getting it's not something that I personally have noticed so I'm happy to leave this off radio degradation simulation is again just exactly what it sounds like so if you're trying to tune to an 80s frequency that might be a long way away then it's not going to be clear again just just like real life so definitely worth keeping that turned on for uh Ultra realism now there are key Bindings that you can use so that when you're talking to ATC obviously you'll want to be able to use a push to talk button so I'm going to bind the push to talk button to the uh main sort of trigger button on my side stick uh if I clear that and then just click in the empty box press it and it comes up as trigger it was pre-bound before due to uh recent setup with DC that I'd got but for the first time you will need to set that up there's also a second binding key you can use which by default is set to uh set to the space bar okay coming back up to the top again obviously the volume voice self-explanatory the user interface sounds now it is worth leaving these on certainly to begin with because when you use your voice to communicate with a traffic control the program will play a little noise just to let you know that it has heard you it's understood what you have said and it is working out its response to you you'll see that a little bit later on in the video okay we've obviously got a microphone set up as well and then you've got an autoresponder voice now this is because if you wish you can literally just have the program essentially talk to itself which is actually really good when we're in a high workload situation things like the takeoff or the landing in real life if you are the pilot flying then the person sat next to you the pilot monitoring is the one that's handling all the radio communications usually the pilot flying doesn't do radio coms so this is quite nice to have turned on and we'll see that a little bit later on in the video of course you can then set up what voice you would like and there are several to choose from including some uh influencers and uh streamers one of those happens to uh be me so I can set that up for myself and you can play a voice sample as well if you wish but yeah certainly just choose whichever you like obviously I'm going to go with EasyJet s Violet next then it is worth doing a microphone speech recognition test now Beyond ATC uses AI to help identify what it is you're saying and it has a very high success rate of listening to you and understanding you regardless of any particular dialects or accents you may have but using the speech recognition test will help so when we're ready to start just click the test and read out the sentence that it gives you United 259 turn left heading 060 contact departure 125 ner once that's done it'll just take a few seconds to process your voice input next then underneath we have the AI traffic toggle on or off now at the time of Beyond atc's release AI traffic is not yet working but eventually you'll be able to turn this on which then will inject traffic into the simulator with Beyond ATC also controlling that traffic in a very realistic manner you'll also be able to hear of course air traffic controllers talking to the AI traffic now of course the higher the traffic density is set the more demanding it is going to be on your PC and Hardware so obviously you'll just need to adjust this so you get an acceptable level of performance for your own system we then move on to the voice quality now of course this is where Beyond ATC I think really does Excel itself so for the air traffic controllers voice there are three options basically you can have it off you can have it set to basic both of those bear no additional costs for this program and then we have the premium voices now obviously the premium voices sound fantastic we'll have to listen to some of those uh in a few moments but the premium voices will cost you and they cost basically characters and a character is exactly as it sounds so with the basic version that uh you saw me purchase at the start of the video it comes with 50,000 characters now obviously the more flights that you do if you have premium voices turned on you'll be able to see and check this and it will start to obviously decrease as the air traffic controller talks to you and also talks to AI traffic once that is available now the traffic voice model again this is for AI traffic which at the time of release is not yet implemented so you can set this to anything at the start but of course if you wanted both your air traffic controllers voice and your AI traffic to also answer them in premium voices which is wonderful because the voices you will hear sort of German Pilots for L handser American Pilots for American Airlines Etc British for British Airways um that is what really really adds to the immersion but of course with the premium voices they are going to obviously cost you and you're going to need to top up those premium characters as you go but with the settings page here in Beyond ATC you are able to keep an eye on this just to see how fast you are utilizing these and going through them of course if you were to just leave them set to basic then there is no additional cost once you've purchased Beyond ATC we'll leave these at basic for now and we'll check out some of those premium voices a little bit later on in the video If you do however want to use the premium voices all the time when you start to run out of those from the main menu you can just go to the store and top up the premium characters okay so with Microsoft flight simulator now running you will need to create a flight plan in simbrief now at the moment you must use simbrief in order to create your flight plan this is just the way Beyond ATC works because it takes the information from your operational flight plan and it uses this to help compute all of the air traffic control instructions that it is going to give you now I know not everybody may be thrilled with the fact that you have to use sim Reef but to be honest Sim reef is free it's very realistic and it's very easy to set up and you can check other tutorial videos here on the Channel with regards to using Sim Reef if you've never used it before so the call sign that it's going to use is set up in Sim for our flight today we're going to be easy 34 alp for mik so that's now all set in Sim reef and created we obviously just need to pop our aircraft on the ground uh where we're going to depart from which today is going to be uh Lisbon and then once we've loaded in that's when we're going to hit the fly button in Beyond ATC now you do have to tell Beyond ATC what your sim brief pilot ID is to find that go to the simbrief website and on the left hand side under account settings you'll then there be able to find your pilot ID that you can just copy and then paste into Beyond ATC okay so once we are in the flight deck you've got yourself all set up hit the fly now button and Beyond ATC will then obviously connect with the simulator and it will read all the information off your operational Flight Plan ATC connected so as you can see the call sign it has got is shown here easy 34 Alpha mic again this is based on the call sign us selected when creating your sim brief flight plan now at the moment the menu looks pretty blank and this is just the default view when you start it tells you down here that your com radios which are linked to the radios in your aircraft aren't tuned to any active frequency there are a couple of options as well we have autor respond off or on and we have the autotune radio off or on now this obviously can really help you out in high workload situations such as departing and Landing it's a pretty self-explanatory so the autor respond if you turn that on then the program will communicate essentially with itself and you will hear those Communications between the voice that you selected on the settings page and then the air traffic controller if you have the autotune radio turned on that again does exactly what it sounds like it will tune the radios for you so you not have to pan around and do that for yourself in essence though right at the start the then you'll need to know what frequencies to connect to the first thing you do when you launch a flight of course is get the uh airport information the 8S now you can do this by looking up the charts on navigraph and I've quickly just done that to see that the 8S frequency here at Lisbon is 12955 so if we just move that out onto my second screen and go down here to tune to that frequency 121 uh 955 we should automatically pick up that A500 landing and paring to0 17 transition 04 back short instr Vis initi contact you have information to back okay so just as real life you'd pick that up you'd write down the information that you need and then we would start setting the aircrafts up and contact air traffic control for our clearance and push back now obviously not everybody has a navigraph subscription so you're not going to be able to find those frequencies if you don't need it but not to worry because if you go down here where the little headphones are and you press here this then shows you all of the active frequencies that you are able to contact so obviously starting right at the top they are the 8S frequencies the next frequency we're going to need is the clearance you've then obviously got ground uh Tower and the tranon and the center of course so let's have a listen to the clearance delivery 11 18950 and I am going to use my voice to interact with Beyond dayc to begin with Okay so let's tune to the frequency 18950 and contact our clearance now now at the moment you can see that my aircraft is tuned to what is essentially unicor vat in 1228 and Beyond ATC will tell you that the frequency does not exist that is basically we're not in a place where that frequency is an active frequency the moment we tune then to 18950 which is a frequency uh for clearance then that will change so we are on Lisbon delivery which is what we want and then there are a couple of things that we can do I can either use my mouse to request the IFR clearance or request a uh request a radio check or of course I can uh I can use my voice so let's uh using my push to talk button that I set up previously we'll press hold that and contact for uh our clearance Lisbon clearance delivery easz 34 Alpha mic Aus A320 with information kuc requesting IFR clearance to Bristol easy for Al micb delivery information okay and all that information is then given to you on screen tells you which Runway to tax you to the standard instrument departure they've given you and also what sork and essentially then you can just read that Back Taxi Runway 20 standard instrument departure inbomb for Sierra and sork 1201 for easy3 for Alpha mic easy3 for Alpha mic readback correct contact ground 1 21 decimal 751 ready for and now if you want to use the mouse just to show you we can acknowledge the instruction with the mouse so if we press that it will do it all for us ground 1 121 decimal 75 when ready for push back or engine start easy3 for Alpha mik have a good day okay so the voices you have just heard remember are ones that we have got set up in the settings and they are the basic voices so the controller voice that you just heard is a free voice which I actually thought sounded really good the fact that the voice that you heard of the first officer answering uh the air traffic control was also a basic voice so you will not be able to select any of these premium autor respond voices uh such as I had obviously selected EasyJet s pilot that's not going to work unless uh I have got premium voices turned on here but there are some free voices you can use as well for instance US mail us female and UK Etc so choose one of those if you wish um what we're going to do now though I am going to turn on the premium voices and then you'll also be able to see as that's been used the premium characters start to go down so I've already set my aircraft up we're going to tune to our uh ground frequency 12175 and request the push back this time we should hear a premium voice easy 34 Alpha mic at ramp 106 request push back easy 34 Alpha mik Lisbon ground push back approved face North now obviously we would have to acknowledge that instruction but if we had got the autoresponder turned on then it would automatically have acknowledged that for us push back approved face North easy 34 Alpha mic if we now go and have a look back in the settings page you'll see that the premium characters has started to go down and you can gauge this as you're using it to see just how much premium character voice time you have left now remember essentially you do not need to use these premium voices even the basic voices are a vast Improvement on default ATC but if you do like the premium voices then once you run out you can buy more of the premium voice characters to use using the store option in Beyond ATC next then with push back complete time to tune to ground and get our taxi instructions now Beyond ATC reads the airort scenery file in order to give accurate taxiway instructions so if you're looking on a chart you can see we've actually just pushed back here so I'm expecting it to give us a taxi via uh Alpha to uniform for the departure on Runway 20 it might give us a cross Runway and for a ful length departure take us down uniform and Sierra we will see at the moment insection departures are not yet accepted by Beyond ATC but that is something the team will I'm sure be looking at brief in in the future if however you are flying from an airport with default Microsoft aobo scenery then beyond ATC may give you taxi instructions that don't link up to the real world chart and that is just because that is a limitation of aobo scenery those using Payway scenery airports the devs of those airports have more than likely created accurate and realistic taxiways so beyond ATC will then be able to give you a proper taxi instruction so we're already still on Lisbon ground again I'm going to use my voice to ask for the taxi and you'll be able to hear that noise that beyonde TC plays when it recognizes the instruction that you've asked for the user interface sounds and this is why certainly at the start it is worth leaving this on just so you know particularly if you're going to fly with this either minimized or on a second screen Etc if you can't see this display you'll not always know without that sound user interface feedback that your instruction has been recognized so lisban ground easy 34 Alpha mic request taxi to Runway that little Bing is confirmation mik Runway two taxi alpha 1 Yankee Alpha 32 taxi Runway 2 varer alpha 1 Yankee Alpha 3 and Sierra 2 easy 3 for Alpha mik and again that little Bing there which you can see why certainly if you're flying with the Beyond ATC window minimized you want that audio feedback to know that it has recognized what you're saying so whilst taxiing I've turned on my workload moment particularly as a single pilot so it's not unrealistic to have both of these turned on of course if you want to contact and speak to the tower do a handle the radios yourself that is absolutely up to you easy 34 Alpha mic ready to go Runway 20 easy 34 Alpha Mike Lisbon Tower win 250 at 1 Z Runway two cleared for takeoff Runway 20 cleared for takeoff easy 34 Alpha M easy 34 Alpha mic contact Lisbon departure 125 decimal 13 contact Lisbon departure 125 decimal 13 easy 34 Alpha mic Lisbon easy 34 Alpha mic 2300 ft E34 Alpha mik Lisbon departure identified climb to flight level 180 climb to flight level 180 easy 34 Alpha mic now a simple feature that has been added to Beyond ATC during the beta process is the ability to request direct two waypoints which is a great time saving and fuel saving feature and quite realistic as well let's give that a try easy 34 Alpha mic request Direct in November Bravo Oscar Mike E34 Alpha mik confirm direct to in bomb affirmative easy3 for Alpha mic easy 34 Alpha Mike Roger clear direct to inbomb clear direct inbomb thank you easy 34 Alpha mic okay now one of the things that you will be able to use Beyond H tc4 if you are more used to flying on the vatsim network obviously vat Sim is fantastic but it does not have worldwide coverage so if in Long sections of the cruise in your flight there is no online vasim Air Traffic Control you can actually use Beyond ATC to sort of fill in the Gap so let's just assume we have just departed from Lisbon but we were on the vaive network and not using Beyond ATC in fact I'm to now close Beyond ATC down so that is now no longer active we've just then assumingly departed Lisbon we've now been told no further air traffic control on F Sim head over to Unicom obviously the normal frequency for that is 122 decimal 8 and so for the foreseeable you've checked on vat spy or vat map whatever app you use when flying on the vat Network and seeing that there are no air traffic controls now between here and say uh Bristol which is where this flight is Bound for so then we can use Beyond ATC to come and give us Air Traffic Control coverage until vat Sim controllers come back online now there are some caveats that of course if you are flying on the vatsim network at all times you must be monitoring unicor and of course the squark code that the vatsim controler gave you at the start part of the flight is still valid when you're flying on the vatsim network when then we decide to utiliz Beyond ATC one of the things that you must be doing is always monitoring the vasim Unicom Channel now there are a couple of ways to do this um we've obviously got vpilot opened up and you can be monitoring messages on there but the other thing as well is use VHF 2 where in the real world Pilots are always monitoring one to1 5 which is the guard frequency well if we're going to use Beyond ATC and vatsim at the same time then you need to monitor the unicor frequency so we'll just pop Unicom onto VHF 2 and now VHF 1 is free for us to connect to Beyond ATC so we're going to show you now how to start Beyond ATC up midf flight obviously we've just shut it down it's not currently running and I'm now going to load up Beyond ATC as we've just leveled off at flight level 180 out of Lisbon on our flight to Bristol so with Unicom being monitored in case uh there are any calls on the fatum network from other Pilots we'll now connect Beyond ATC back to our flight simulator which it will obviously do again reading your operational flight plan because you're at going to be flying on the route that you've got already loaded in that's been done and Beyond ATC recognizes that we're actually starting midair as it says looks like you're starting flight midair select which phase of the flight you're in now there are the obvious choices we are in the climb at the moment we're only at flight level 180 our planned flight today is to flight 360 so we'll obviously select climb but you can see from the menu that if you were in Cruise descent and even Landing Beyond ATC will recognize those I do think it important to point out however that if you are using Beyond ATC to give you air traffic control when you are landing at an uncontrolled airport and you are flying on vat Sim then I do think that you're going to have to be very careful because obviously you're going to be following instructions from a virtual air traffic controller which might have you interfering with live traffic on the vatsim network so if I personally was using Beyond ATC and vatsim at the same time I would probably not use Beyond ATC when I'm sort of 30 m out from an airport coming into land with other traffic around if of course you're flying into an airport on the vum network where you're the only aircraft then I don't see this as being a problem but of course just to be fair to other users on vatsim then you really do need to be liing with other pilots on the vatsim network okay so let's just set climb so it knows what phase of flight we're in select okay and then once again nothing is tuned because we've just selected to it but that is then when this comes in really handy we select down here and we contact the center frequency you could also contact tranon and essentially if it tells you the wrong you're on the wrong frequency well then it will just direct you to the uh the the correct one let's tune 125 13 we'll select that and just announce that we're on frequency Lisbon approach control easy 34 Alpha mic with you E34 Alpha mic Lisbon departure identified descend to flight level 180 desender flight level 180 easy3 for Alpha mic easy 34 Alpha mic you're off course clear direct ucv resumo navigation clear direct UV and own navigation for easy3 for Alpha mic easy 34 Alpha mic contact Lisbon radar 11 Niner decimal 55 11 ner decimal 55 for eas3 for Alpha mik okay autotune is on and it's done that for us now it had a little bit of trouble there it's telling us it wanted us to descenty 180 it then eventually told us we were on the wrong frequency we need to be on 11955 which we are now um I'm going to turn auto respond back on of course what you can do is you can anounce that we're on frequency and we can request the Fly level that we want which is FL level 360 so in fact let me just do that myself this been radar good afternoon easy 34 Alpha mic flight level 180 requesting flight level 360 easy 34 Alpha mic reset transponder squark 5133 squark 5133 easy 3 for half M okay so this is the important bit if you are going to merge vat Sim and Beyond ATC they want us on a score of 5133 which is fine but if you were given a squad code from a vaton controller when you started your flight then you're going to have to make a note of this because when vacum controllers come back online and you want to use vatsim ATC then this is the squad code you're going to have to pop back in we'll set now 5133 as instructed and it then should recognize where we are E34 Alpha mic Lisbon radar climb to flight level 370 clim flight level 370 e 34 off Mark okay so just to now verify that Beyond ATC know where we are and more importantly where we're going we can actually verify the next fix as well so we can ask uh the ATC just to uh confirm what our next fix should be you can see on the navigation display there we're about 60 mi from inbomb let's see where ATC are expecting us to be easy 3 4 Alpha mic please verify name of my next fix easy 34 Alpha mic I show you going direct to C then to inbomb affirmative direct to youvive then to inbomb easy 34 Alpha mic now you'll probably remember that I actually asked for a director inbomb right at the start of my flight this may have caused a little bit of confusion but it is easily rectified I will'll just request a direct to are uh fix inbomb Lisbon radar is the 34 Alpha mic request direct to in bomb easy 34 alha mik confirm directory in bomb affirmative easy 34 Alpha mik easy 34 Alpha mik Roger clear direct to in bomb Roger thank you M you're very welcome and we've even got a polite H traffic controller so guys there we are that is a setup tutorial guide for Beyond ATC which is now available check out the link in the video description below and you can go and purchase this right now please let me know what you guys think of this program now it is available down in the comment section below
