home daughter it seems like just yesterday [Music] that you were here last i want to pray for the prodigals and i don't necessarily mean those that have completely fallen away from the faith and turn their back on the father entirely i'm talking about those that have simply lost the fire of first love some of us have gone to the church house while forgetting to go to our father's house some of us father had in place for him the bible says that he came to himself which is another way of saying that he repented i believe that there are some people in the room tonight that simply need to repent of their wandering man i've been living on much less than the father has paid for me to live from and i want to repent i want to repent for living off of pennies when the father has put millions into the account i want to repent for living off of unhealthy foods when he's prepared a table setting in my honor with my name in the chair the bible says he came to himself and when he recognized that he was living well below the standard of his inheritance he turned around which is another way of saying he repented he did an about-face and he said i am going home to where i know that i belong i am going home where i know that my heart feels healthy and safe i am going home to where i know that my soul can come to rest i am going back to the father i i just believe there's some people in the room tonight listen you've been a christian for a really long time but you just been wandering you just been wandering living well below the standard of the inheritance that the father has provided for you i don't want to embarrass anybody i don't i really don't but if that is anybody in here and you can confess tonight and say i have been living well below the standard of my inheritance i am conflicted and confused in my soul i'm struggling i'm wrestling i don't know which way is up or down i don't know which way is left or right but i know i'm hungry and i know i'm living on much less than what the father has provided for me if that's you in here listen you don't have to wave at me or anything but even with your eyes closed and your head lifted would you just lift your hand to god in christ is someone that is hungry for the father's heart your true identity in christ is that of a son your posture is one of knowing i am completely safe in the father's house and if that's you and started heading towards home he started heading to where his soul was at rest and could you see the picture with me for a moment the father sitting there in the porch and he sees a shadowy figure off in the distance he can't quite make out who it is but he recognizes the cadence [Music] hold on just a second he stands up he starts looking squinting his eyes is is is is that is that my boy [Music] has he thought about coming home has she thought about coming back to me is that him and before he can make out the features of his son's face he girds up his outfit starts wrapping it around and he said oh that's my boy right there oh that right there that's my daughter [Music] right there and he's not waiting for them to arrive at the porch and then lecture them say ah told you so ah see what you done did i told you if you left and squandered all of your inheritance you were going to be eating with the pigs i told you don't you feel stupid no no he doesn't wait for you to get all the way back before he girds up his outfit before you've even had a chance to repent and he jumps off of the porch he leaps off of the porch he comes running sprinting towards you and i'm sure you know this already but it was not appropriate for patriarchs in that culture to gird up their outfits they weren't supposed to show their legs it also was not appropriate for fathers to run see running is something that kids do fathers they don't run like that but he jumped off the porch and he took off sprinting and he did everything that culture said he shouldn't because he was in a passionate search for you even when everybody said everybody else said he he don't deserve it [Music] he don't deserve that the father's sprinting for you [Music] she don't deserve that she did nothing to earn that the father sprinting for you [Music] you may be speaking that over yourself maybe somebody else used to say that but now you've stepped into self-condemning talk and now you're saying i don't deserve the love of the father i don't deserve to be as passionate as i used to be i don't deserve to have my prayers answered the way they used to be answered when i was living life pure no listen your prayers are not based on your own righteousness or merit they are paid they are based on the passionate pursuit of the father who's jumped off the porch and he's coming after you tonight right now in this moment the father is running after you now for some of us that's scary to know that the father is sprinting in your direction is scary because you're thinking about maybe what you might have to give up you're thinking about maybe what you might have to repent of you're thinking about maybe what he might say to you but listen he doesn't arrive at you to berate you he doesn't arrive at you to beat you he arrives at you to meet you right where you are and tell you who you are and remind you of who you belong to he said hey get the robe where you think the robe came from out of his closet hey hey get the ring what do you think the ring said on it his name i got one right here literally my daddy gave me this the night before i got married says phillips on it i can look at it be reminded of who my daddy says that i am get the ring and he said no no dad daddy i don't deserve that i don't deserve that i haven't earned that that doesn't belong to me anymore i'm here to serve as a slave i i've learned how to become comfortable living well below the standard of my inheritance i can do it i can keep doing it if you'll just let me live here in safety no no no no no no no no you haven't arrived home to continue living well below the standard of your inheritance here's the ring here's the rope here's some shoes i know your feet been hurting you've been walking a long journey without any far fringe of the father's property when he was headed home exhausted weary tired sick rejected isolated depressed anxious suicidal living well below the standard of what jesus paid for you to live out on the cross living well below the standard of the inheritance that the father has provided for you right now [Music] you don't know one of the most amazing things about this story is that the father didn't even make the son walk all the way back home [Music] we know that because of jesus's parable about the sheep [Music] see you would think that he said okay get to step in boy and then he just follows him the whole time told you not to do that told you not to do that i can't believe you man i can't believe the audacity i can't believe you would say that about me i can't believe you would squander what i worked so hard to provide for you i can't believe you would take god's name in vain i can't believe that you would squander the blood that my son shed on the cross for you i can't believe that you would take for granted what happened on calvary i can't believe that you would show your face in church after everything that you've done i can't believe you would go back and try to make it better with your wife after you cheated on her with another woman i can't believe that you will show yourself to your pastor after you've been cutting yourself i can't believe no no see that's condemnation that's the talk of satan not the talk of a good good father named abba abba and you know what i have to think maybe the sun was fighting them dad dad i'm good i'm good i'm good
