if you use zoom for meetings or even webinars you'll know that this is how most people look and sound on zoom is this going to impress your audience likely not but when you look and sound like this now you're playing a totally different game right from the off you look professional this in an instant it changes how people think about you in this video i'm gonna give you a behind the scenes tour of my setup and tell you exactly how i pull this look off the thing is it's not that hard to set yourself up so you look head and shoulders above everybody else when it comes to presenting every time i go on a zoom meeting people always mention how good my video looks but let's face it when you look this ugly you've got to make the effort so what i'm going to do i'm going to give you a quick tour of my setup my camera my audio my lighting and i'm going to show you how i put it all together so you can well so you can copy it and if you've got questions well you know where the comments box is ask me first the camera forget using the camera on your laptop for that up the nostril shot it ain't a good look you can buy these little clip-on webcams and yes they're an improvement but you can do so much better without breaking the bank for most zoom calls i use this little sony camera the zv e10 great little camera but really sony zv e10 is is that the best name you could come up with sounds more like a fax machine so names crap but i love the camera no it may not look like much but this bad boy is packed with features normally reserved for higher end professional video cameras and i've actually got two of these little sony cameras filming me right now i have one that's mounted behind a teleprompter which i don't actually use as a teleprompter i use it as a screen directly in front of the lens so i'm always looking directly at who i'm talking to and not breaking eye contact by looking at my screen down here like most people do when on a zoom call in fact there's a tip for you when you're presenting keeping eye contact it makes a world of difference to keeping your audience engaged and i actually did a video on how to set up a teleprompter and use it as a monitor and i'll put a link up here i've got one camera here right in front of me and i've got another one over here to the side i can get great video but what i really like about it is it's got amazing autofocus i'll just switch cameras again if i hold something up and away anyway it's absolutely fantastic i'll just switch back to my main camera so i've never gotta worry about being autofocus to connect the camera to my computer i use one of these it's a hdmi to usb converter now you can get cheap ones on amazon but i've found the ones by elgato to be the most reliable i plug an hdmi cable into my camera i plug the other end into the converter and then i attach the converter to my computer my computer now sees my camera just like a regular webcam and because i'm using an f 1.4 lens i get this nice blurred background and i don't need a lot of light because i'm using the right lens with the right camera and just in case you're interested the lens i'm using is a sigma 30 millimeter f 1.4 and if you're thinking i bet all this is i bet it's expensive to set up it's not in fact rather than me just list what i use below the video i've put together a guide that dives into all the equipment that i recommend and i also give you a lot more information in there too and i'll put a link to that below to support the camera i'm not getting fancy i've got one camera on a tripod and that's only because it's got a teleprompter on it otherwise i just buy these cheap monitor pulse from amazon for like 20 bucks a piece clamp them to my desk and then use a cheap super clamp to attach the camera simple let's talk audio now there's no point in having a nice video if you don't also have good audio unless you want to really annoy your audience don't use the mic built into the camera it's shocking it's like the mic that i found that works really well with the sony zve10 is the rode videomic pro now normally this mic it would fit on top of the camera but and here's the thing if you do that the mic is going to be too far away from a mic like this to sound good you've got to get it about eight to ten inches away from your mouth so i've taken it off the camera and i've attached it to this extendable arm and i've clamped the arm to a monitor pull i then run this cheap audio extension cable from the mic to the camera the mic now just sits just above my head out of the shot of the camera and now i've got great sounding audio going directly into the camera so audio out of the way let's look at what really ups the game for me lighting when it comes to lighting zoom calls we've got a few default looks and you've seen them with the i'll make sure i've got enough light lock with that i'll sit next to the window and then the classic the never goes out of fashion the in front of the window look light in a talking head video like this it isn't hard you only need one light if you get the right light i'm only using one simple light at the moment but what i've got is i've got a diffuser an all-around globe diffuser and it fills the whole room with a really nice soft light nice soft shadows subtle highlights i've got a 60 watt led light and it's mounted on a pole placed up high and it's shining down on me and because i've got the right camera and the right lens i can have the lights on really low and currently it's only on like eight percent and that's why it looks nice and soft with no harsh shadows or highlights now one other thing and this doesn't actually improve the quality of the video but what it does it makes it so much easier for me to present on zoom and it's little application called ecam and i'll put a link to it below no ecamm is a mac only solution but if you're on a pc you can do the same with obs so using ecam when i go live i can switch between cameras i can bring in slides i have my video overlaid on this light i can split my screen i can share my screen and while i'm presenting i can quickly switch backward and forward with just a single click of my mouse off just by using my keyboard i could even bring in my ipad in fact and this is really cool as i'm presenting i can use my ipad and me apple pencil and i can actually write on the screen i can draw shapes like that i can draw i can highlight i can even right on the screen ecom really does help you level up your game i'll just remove that who cools that in fact if you want to know how i use my ipad as an interactive on-screen whiteboard like this subscribe because i've got a video coming that'll show you how i do it for me ecam is like the missing piece that makes your presentations just flow when you bring this all together you totally blow your audience away every time i go on a zoom meeting even if i'm only a guest i always get requests after asking me how i do it well no the cat's out of the bag and you know how i do it and like i said if you want more information on how i do this and the equipment that i use download my free guide i hope you've enjoyed this lesson so until next time bye for now
