BEST SWITCH RPGS - Happy Console Gamer

so welcome to my episode on the best rpgs on the nintendo switch and before i get started what are some of your favorite rpgs on the switch i'm going to mention a bunch today and i'm not going to mention them all because there's so many i'm just going to mention the ones that i really personally love the most and i'd like to know about any other rpgs i'd be missing out on so where is a good place to start for rpgs on the switch i'm sure most of you have already played these games but i have to mention them because they're there xenoblade chronicles definitive edition is an incredible game a gigantic game and then we get number two can you believe it and supposedly they're working on the third game right now that's all rumors and then torna right here is another rpg that is really big in scope and a lot of fun you really can't lose if you're into the xenoblade chronicles universe i mean the switch has been renowned with these incredible games my wife has finished the first game she's moving on to the second game and i'm telling you these games are gigantic they're going to take you a lot of time the worlds are gigantic so much stuff to do so many side quests so many interesting characters and i'm telling you the xenoblade chronicles storyline is epic i mean the story is ridiculous especially when you get to the end of some of these games they're unbelievable now you know i'm gonna mention these games and i'm gonna tell you the three best and what order to play them ease games you gotta play some ease games yes they're an action rpg i'm gonna cheat a bit in there they are an rpg series i'm gonna pick ease origin as a wonderful place to start it's the beginning of the entire east franchise and it introduces you to the world and the characters and it's a really easy place to jump in and you just get to run around and grind and kill enemies over and over and over again it's really a lot of fun with fantastic music now that's a great place to start uh with the e-series on the switch a great place to end is ease eight the laker master of donna one of the best ease games it really is over time it's starting to edge up for me i'm really enjoying it i love the island you get washed up on and the mysteries that ensue it really is kind of a pirate adventure that at all goes on along the island and great graphics really great stuff an excellent storyline a game that i really gotta say you gotta play you gotta play next up after ease eight i would say ease 9 monstrum knox now this one gets bumped down a little bit for me because the frame rate is a bit of an issue it is and maybe there'll be some updates in the future to help that but it's one of the weaker ones for that but that being said the overall game and game play is excellent it really is it's a wonderful adventure i finished it this year ease 9 is one of my games of the year for rpg fans and honestly the best place to probably play it would be on pc or on the ps4 ps5 upgrade that's probably the best way to go but if you've got the switch it's not too bad just know the frame rate isn't the best and i'm bringing this one up right here dragon quest 11 yes my god who has not played that game by now you've all played this game right you've all played this game it will make you a believer in the dragon quest series and if it doesn't i don't think anything will for the dragon quest series it's a great place to jump in if you've never played a dragon quest game all dragon quest games are completely different and so this game is its own story its own characters its own world but we have the monsters returning and the turn-based combat is back and wonderful stuff i cannot say enough about dragon quest 11 and i'm sure everybody out there who's an rpg fan has played it or has tried it if not there's demos out there if you're unsure about it give it a give it a shot it's a beautiful looking world it's up there as one of the best dragon quest games ever made and dragon quest 12 has been announced and it's gonna sounds like it's gonna take a very different direction it's gonna be a darker uh edge game and what i'm going to do i'm going to make an episode on dragon quest 12 very very soon i'm compiling notes and really getting uh ready for that but dragon quest 11 if you've ever been unsure say you're a final fantasy person you're like i don't think i like that dragon stuff just give it a try it's charming it's beautiful the animation the characters i could go on about it all day and here's an older style of game and it's not exclusive to the switch i want to say that right now and there's a few others that are not as well but they're must plays on the switch final fantasy 12 the zodiac age a game that when it first came out i kept trying to get further into it and i'd always quit at the 25 hour mark i made two attempts to get in there and then finally we got through it uh me and kim about a year and a half two years ago now when it first got released and there's like god damn it it's so good and it's so nice to have it on the switch it's really nice to have like final fantasy 9 10 and 12 on here i'm really happy about that and yeah it was kind of like an mmo style of game and it turned a lot of people off but the more we got into this game we love the character designs we like the world setting and the combat the combat really grows on you i mean it's not for everybody but it was definitely for us oh my god here we go guys octopath traveler this is a wonderful wonderful game i return to the 8-bit 16-bit 32-bit days of rpgs it had a wonderful graphical style and here's something one of the best musical soundtracks in a game in years you'll hear the soundtrack playing in many of my videos and maybe i over play it and i always will because it's that good of a soundtrack i really need to get the soundtrack separately on like cd or something like that because i enjoy it that much but octopath traveler great combat great storyline very engaging world and i say that aesthetic graphics that they use that style it looks unreal and it looks like they're taking that style into drag quest 3 the remake and i'm really happy about that okay this is an action rpg uh series of games i really recommend you guys go and get this game right now collection of mana this is a really big deal thing because it's really cheap online and i swear to god it's going to sell out and this is going to be a popular game in the future uh you know to buy again because it's a collection of the three awesome secretive mana games so i would really really recommend this it's got second density 3 that never came out over here it's on here finish that secretive mana and the original final fantasy adventure on here highly recommend this while it's a cheap price jump in because this is going to be a collector's item in time i'm guessing it's only because i love the games now here's a game that i have not played i played the demo i'll meet him quite like the demo kim enjoyed the the original game she didn't really like the ending of the original game but bravely default to along the masses everybody has said this is an excellent excellent game and this is one that we really want to jump into and i'm recommending it because a lot of my friends have played it and i've said how cool it is and how great it is and we really like the combat the art style and all that and so maybe check out some reviews on this game but it's up there as a great rpg on the switch and i think i'm going to say this it's a bit of a sleeper hit it kind of like came under the radar for everybody and everybody's playing these other style of games and bravely default too kind of got lost let me know what you guys think of bravery default 2 in the comments i'd be really curious to read what you think about it all okay we played on ps4 and i had to pick up the switch version here shin megami tensei 3 nocturne wow the remaster now this game as well is not for everybody but it is for shimagami tensei fans and you kind of know what you're gonna get with that style of game it's gonna be a post-apocalyptic world many demons that you're trying to recruit you're a demon in this game and the story is just yeah it's like the world ends and it's really a brutal end to it all and you're running around trying to figure out what the hell is going on as you're trying to recruit demons and that's where the meat and potatoes is it's kind of like a pokemon style of game but it's very dark i guess that's my wife uh coined that with me and i thought that's the best way to put it and this is a very strange game it's from the ps2 era it's been remastered the cinematics are not remastered but everything else is and it's really it's really an interesting ride some people may find it boring because it's kind of a barren wasteland but that's kind of the atmosphere they're going for so just know that going in and i'd recommend this game and i think you know i was talking about secret of mana i think i think this would become a bit of a a collector's item in time because it's a great game to me you know so here we go of course this is going to be on the list final fantasy 10 and 10-2 these games really meant a lot to me at the time i'll say something i thought they were not the best final fantasy games i mean i finished 10 i finished 10-2 and my kind of feeling was well i thought they were okay but it was missing something from final fantasy you know that the world map but yes it had points on the map but it wasn't quite the same as what it used to be but over time i look back and yes it's the nostalgic glasses talking or final fantasy 10 and 10-2 but i really have some fond memories now playing these games and i really appreciate the turn-based combat in them and just the look and art style of these games of the time and i'm really happy to play them on a modern console and i if you've never gone back and played these games give them a shot i mean they really they hold up pretty damn good you know okay tokyo mirage sessions fe encore we played the original one on the wii u and we really liked it we just picked this up just to have it in the collection because we enjoyed the original game so much kim finished it and she was ranting and raving and she really enjoyed the experience with it and uh yeah this is kind of an atlas style of game so know that kind of going in there's a lot of characters a lot of characters talking about things and all that combat is interesting great art style really unique idol singers yeah i i'd say give it a shot okay we just we just finished um reviewing tales of a rise and some people asked me what tales games have you played and it's not tales of destiny tales of symphonia tales of vesperia right here and this is the remaster i got the 360 game uh on the shelf there as well where it originally came out and even me and rob said back in the day this is a top tier rpg and one that you should definitely look into and i think if you're a tales fan you've already played it you know how good it is but i for me as the tales games kept going when it got to vesperia i was like this is excellent and all of that and obviously tales of varies is excellent but go back to tales of bisperia okay nina cooney the original game the remaster it's a classic i'm not so much a fan of the combat in the original game but that art style that cartoony look that you know anime style of look of the world i mean i think it captured everybody's imagination and made you remember why you played jrpg games and nina cooney oh my god it's a classic i get a little tear thinking about the storyline because it was it was a powerful dark storyline for the time and it still holds up really really well i did a video on this showing the comparison of the old game to the new game it's up on the channel now here we go ah this is a remake of second densetsu 3 trials of mana and you know what i've heard of some people who do not like this game and i'm i'm kind of a bit in shock because i do like the original game so much and so when you see the original game brought into 3d it's like a love letter to me of the old days to the new and i can't even believe this game was made i can't even believe this decided to make it i bought the switch version and the ps4 version because i'm like i just i'm a fan and i really want to have these in the collection and i really recommend trials of mana it's a beautiful world it's an old school style of game go check out some reviews i did a entire big first thoughts uh video on it uh that got kind of big so check that out okay here's an import there's a couple of imports in here that i have to do i even forgot that i ordered it my friend was saying to me one day he's like oh yeah you need to get this game i'm like oh i don't know i get so many ports of it i don't know and then it showed up from play asia and that is final fantasy 9 on the switch and this is the english version of the game in physical form it's the first time there's been a physical form of this game since the playstation one era and i was quite happy to get this i'm like yeah i like final fantasy nine and can you believe it there's some rumors going around that they're remaking the game in like 3d like you know full remastering type of thing i'll believe it when i see it there's always so many rumors out there now this is an older game from the ps1 era originally on the the saturn in japan and i got this from limited run small tier man small tier this is my childhood this is my childhood grandia the high definition collection is grandio 1 and grandia 2 a wonderful wonderful series of games and what makes it so special i've talked about it so much i've reviewed the game so many times on the channel it's just a tale of innocence especially with the first game about these kids that go on this crazy adventure and the music was very very different and i was very very lucky to meet the character designer at anime expo in 2000 i got to hang out with him and drink and smoke cigarettes one night it was awesome and then he drew me uh justin and so i was very very lucky to get that and and but but before i even met him we all loved the game in vancouver here we love the game every friend of mine had finished the game we talked about it all the time and to get it through limited run with a like just like a physical version again i thought it was awesome now here is a an interesting one uh last sphere on this on the switch here what can i say about this this is a very decent rpg is it the best rpg ever no but you know it was one of the beginning ones that showed up on the switch and i i really kind of like this game and i think it has a lot to offer it's not going to set any houses on fire but it's showing that square enix was coming back and they were doing some smaller style rpgs and it kind of gave me a feeling of getting back into maybe that they'll do a chrono trigger too one day oh god that'll never happen okay another one i had to import and this is a really weird one for me to to get uh it's the english version and it's romancing saga three i'm just gonna come out and say i remember back in the day my friend andrew had a game doctor it was something that went on the super nintendo and you could copy games from japan and all this and he would download them so we would play a lot of games we'd never normally play and i remember him downloading i'm putting on the super nintendo romancing sagar and i remember sin playing it in full japanese one night and this is during the you know you know craziness of the final fantasy series on the super nintendo and there i am playing a series i'd never played before romancing sag and i was like i really like this and it's very combat heavy know that going in i got it because it was the english version as i say but there was something charming about it and it was really neat how they were doing an offshoot series to final fantasy there's final fantasy and romancing saga and there were two different series uh yeah as i say romance and sega heavy combat that's realistically what it's mainly about but there's a kind of neat storyline some interesting characters in there and yeah i was happy to get that another import yeah i had to do all the imports on these final fantasy 7 and final fantasy 8 on a cart together and they're on here you don't have to download them on here that's i always try to read up on that as best i can for importing games on the switch so it's not so i know that the games are on the car so i don't go oh wait no they're somewhere in some clouds somewhere they're no pun intended they're on here and it's really what a neat thing that here we are i got final fantasy 7 and 8 two classic games on the nintendo switch i love it man i really wish they just released a box set of all of the games right from you know even though the pixel remasters like all the way to now i i i we would all buy it again wouldn't we we would all buy it again so yeah classic a lot of nostalgic uh things in here for sure now here's an interesting one and i did a review on this and i was not happy with this remaster remake or whatever you want to call it their mobile ports that's pretty much what they are and i'm going to recommend it in a certain way i'm going to say first of all on a handheld the the graphics look okay they look pretty okay they're like they're not bad on a tv they look horrendous it's just so shimmery and woo my wife doesn't think it's that bad but i i'm really picky about it i think it is and the reason why i come down on this kind of hard is because i love the original games and i even love the super uh famicom remakes and nice for drag quest one two and three this is an import this is the english version here i i gave it a bad review and the thing i want to say is if you've never played a dragon quest game you have no other access to them this is kind of an easy access way to get them right you can download them over here as well but i'm getting a physical copy i got from japan my wife's loving it she's uh through number one into number two right now she's gonna finish all three and then she's finished every dragon quest game so that's kind of a heck of an accomplishment for her so if you're on the fence and you've never played a dragon quest game it's a go play 11 but if you want to see the earlier roots of these games this is where it all began but i mean it obviously started on the the famicom and then the super famicom and these are i just wish that the the remakes were better thank god we're getting a remake of three a remastered on that for like ps5 ps4 and stuff that's going to be awesome in the future so guys what are some other rpgs that you recommend down below there's so many on the switch and there's so many great indie titles as well that i couldn't even mention all of them but this video would be like five hours long let me know down below so anyways guys until next time

Just picked up Valkyria Chronicles 1 last week and it's a blast. Switch really is arguably the best system for JRPGs and I can't wait to play 4.

Have also played: Disgaea 1, 4, 5, and 6, Trials of Mana Remake, NEO TWEWY, FE Three Houses, Xenoblade 2 and Definitive, Megadimension Neptunia VII, Fairy Fencer F, God Eater 3, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, and there's more I'm looking forward to.

The Switch has been a real godsend when it comes to playing JRPGs for me. It's good there is still a deep well for me drink from once I finish Grandia (I'm in the final dungeon I think). Xenoblade Chronicles seems like something I should play. Wish there were more Tales of games on the Switch though since I want to play as many as I can.

It's crazy because I dropkicked my nintendo switch against the wall and it did not break. Me and rob used to throw it off of buildings to see if it would last.
