hi welcome to the channel I am Summer today we are taking our Bob and creating fun voluminous textured waves that are going to just give you all the movement through your bob haircut I'm going to be showing you step by step how to create those fun waves starting with a very easy rough blow dry that's going to prep your hair to hold that shape throughout the rest of your week and I'm going to be breaking down the difference between two different irons and why one might work for you over the other with that being said let's get started so I'm starting this blow dry off with L'Oreal technique volume mousse this is a very stronghold mousse that's going to give me really good hold for My Curls as I have stick straight fine hair this does have a little bit of product feel but for this case I'm wanting my curls to last I opt for this to give me longevity I use about two to three pumps and I just work it all through my hair scrunching with my hands and then once the product is in I will use my heat protectant you guys called me out for not using it for my volume blow dry and I just spray this all through my hair lifting it up in sections to evenly coat it and then once that is in I take a wet brush and I'm just going to brush all the product through my hair to get it evenly spread and then we will start the rough dry for your rough dry you want to make sure your concentrator nozzle is on your dryer and you're just going to go through lifting the hair at your roots to get that volume working if that's your thing the importance of a concentrator is that it allows you to direct the air flow in a more precise way that's going to allow you to have more control so if you want to create volume like myself or be able to get that blast of heat right at your roots but if you're somebody who wants to create smoothness you're going to be able to get your hair dry without creating as much frizz as if you left the concentrator nozzle off you will then take a very large round brush and this is just going to allow you to smooth through your ends this part is optional it just again allows you to keep more control in your hair if you are somebody who doesn't have strict hair like me this is something you would definitely want to opt to do just to keep the smoothness through your ends and get better control on taming either your curl or frizz okay so the hair is obviously dried now and styled so I'm going to be doing this down my center part so that way you guys can see an exact side by side tutorial because like I said I'm going to be using two different types of irons a regular Barrel iron along with a rounded flat iron so I'm going to start off with the barreled iron and this is actually a smaller size iron I used to use always a 1in iron but my hair is so stick straight and super fine naturally that I have a hard time getting it to hold um shape so that's why I opt with a smaller iron at first because it'll obviously the curls will fall a little bit and I just get more longevity so right now all I'm doing is just clipping this one side out of the way because that's going to be for our flat iron curls and then so what I have is just my hair it's split right down the middle on both sides and we're just going to start in the back so I'm going to take my first section and I'm just going to clip the rest of this hair up out of the way sections are always key anytime you are doing anything with your hair except for that rough blow dry that we created earlier so first things first you guys called me out like I mentioned last uh blow dry tutorial cuz I did not use heat protectant I just simply forgot but we are not forgetting this time so I'm just using Moroccan oil's Perfect Defense and all I'm going to do is a light coat and I'm going to do that on each section another thing I am going to be using is a texturizing spray as well on top of that heat protectant and the reason for that is this is going to create a little bit more grit to the hair to create that hold that I need extra on my hair because it is so straight and fine and this is just color Wows Style on steroids so we're going to start in the back and we're just going to take our first section and I try to keep them within reason the size of the barrel you're using give or take doesn't have to be exactly perfect but try to get it as close as you can to that cuz that's going to give you more control and have that heat more evenly distributed through your iron so I'm starting this is the three and 3/4 of an inch T3 classic clamp Barrel iron so we're starting with the barrel on the outside section and I just kind of put it pretty close to my root actually and I'm going to let that down and then we're just going to be twisting the iron around the ha ha and I like to leave a little bit of my ends out and I just hold anywhere from a count of like 10 to 20 seconds and then for these back pieces I just kind of lightly will pull them out I don't worry about like pulling it too straight and you'll just see that the curl has formed pretty good there and we're going to go to the next section in the back clamp is on the outside and again we're just going to open the clamp ever so slightly with our finger you're not opening it all the way just you want to loosen up the pressure and glide that iron through do not touch this okay after you have finished each section this part is optional you can either opt to spray it again with the texture spray this does have a little bit of hold to it which most texture sprays do or you could come in with a hairspray and just lightly coat that section I do that every single section either with a hairspray or texture spray because again my hair is so straight and so fine the curls fight me so we're going to move into the next section and I don't like to take more than about an inch to inch and a/ quar size just again because we want to keep maximum control with Distributing that heat through your iron heat protectant first on top on the bottom and then an optional texture spray clamp is on the outside and I like to roll away from my face for quite a while as I get further up the head I'll switch the direction and I'll talk about that in a little bit when I get there but for usually this back like a sepal bone down Regen I will just curl away from my face again place the hand on that clamp your finger you're going to open it up just slightly and pull the iron out of the hair and then don't touch set with some spray and we're going to move up the head so one thing I always do is when I'm in front of my face at my hairline I always roll away I hate the way that it looks going towards I feel like most people don't really curl their curls towards their face right along the hairline but you're still going to place that clamp on the outside and you're just going to rotate and at this point in this section of the hair where I have more hair to work with I'm going to start letting the iron out of my hair a bit differently so once the curl has sat in there instead of just pulling it straight down like we've been doing show you you're going to have this rolled into the hair as you open your clamp a little bit you're going to roll the iron back a little bit away from your face and as you do that you're going to open that iron and you're going to twist down and as I twist it I'm going to twist back up once more this takes a little bit to get used to so just bear with me I'll repeat it a few times you're going to come back down twisting and then as you pull out you're going to Glide that iron through those ends to straighten them out some don't touch it and we're going to move to the next section so now we're going to come to our next piece and I'm going to do the same thing so I'll show you again clamp on the outside you're going to come in roll that up leaving out a little bit of those ends and I like to roll all the way up to the top of my head here so once the hair is heated up in your iron what you're going to do is you're going to sort of like half turn it away from your face and as you turn it you are going to unwind the air iron and then I like to come back up hold for a few more seconds and then you're going to come back twisting and then you are just going to pull that hair straight out of the the iron and what the twisting does is it just creates a little bit more texture and fun to the curl and it allows the heat to hit it in a different [Music] [Music] way so this piece I want to straighten it out a little bit more on the end I don't like how it's sort of curls so all I'm going to do is take my iron out my ends here and just pull it perfect so you can use your iron to still smooth out those pieces if you feel like your ends get a little too curled it's all personal preference so now that I'm further up the head I'm going to start changing the direction of My Curls so instead of the clamp being on the outside I'm going to direct it now to the back side of that hair and I'm going to be rolling it towards my face and so what changing the direction of the curl does is create more texture and more movement in the hair it gives the illusion of more fullness anytime you have more movement throughout the hair in a different way that like your curls fall you create a more thicker more voluminous appearance in the hair so that's always a tip if you want to add more texture or volume to your hair switch the direction of your curls it just like plays it up really nice and it's fun and then I do want to make note that while I've been pulling it out and twisting it back up you don't have to do that for every piece again the idea when curling your hair is you want to create a lot of movement but for this look we're trying to create multiple multiple amounts of texture so you don't always have to go in and twist back up you can just come back out like you normally would pulling at those ends ever so slightly and the key thing here is do not ever touch your curl after you've let it out we will fluff through them once we're done curling everywhere the biggest mistake you can do is to curl your hair and while it is still hot pull and flatten out that curl what that does is that's going to for one flattens and Smooths it out but if you're somebody who has a harder time getting curl in general you do not want to jeopardize that you want this hair to cool in its fully curled shape heat is what allows us to work the hair into the shape that we want I've that countless times on my channel but when it cools it cools into that shape so it's going to adhere to that much longer than if you were to just pull this out while it was still warm and then it cools down in that looser look so I'm going to keep adding some more texture so I let it out and I'm twisting it back up hold for just a few seconds and then come back out and perfect this next section of hair I'm actually going to do a couple wider sections as it's going to create a little bit more texture and movement through the hair so I'm going to take a little bit larger of a section here it's quite a bit bigger might make that a little bit smaller than what I've been taking and again this is just create to create a little bit different of a look that's optional I just am trying to create lots of movement in my hair so as you can see this piece is much larger than the actual width of the iron so because of that I am going to opt to do my little twisty thing I'm going to come out a little bit and then I'm going to roll back up and then let out opening up that clamp just a little bit as I pull that hair through so I'm going to get through this section and most of the one up top just repeating the same steps and then I will show you guys how I like to fluff through everything once it is cooled down so as I get into my top sections I try to create as much volume as possible so when I place my iron in I'm actually going to hold the hair all the way up so I'm creating a little bit more lift so you're just going to place your iron in and I like to place it literally all the way out my root and I'm just going to roll it through and still holding it up tight trying to create just a little bit more volume here I like to create as much height here and I'll just sometimes Rock the iron back and forth a little bit making sure to really Heat this top area up and then when I go to let out my curl I'm actually going to kind of Nod my head over to the side and what that is going to do is allow this root to stay up higher versus if I just pull it out so by tilting my head I have a little bit more elevation here and so I'm just going to unwind that iron twisting it keeping my head turned and then at that last little bit open that clamp and just slide out ever so gently just tries to help keep a little bit of volume and then for this top section I'm just going to repeat the same steps that we have been doing all along spraying with that texture spray for extra hold placing my iron all the way way to the top of my section at my root to create just a little bit more volume again you can do a mix of letting the hair out and then rolling it back up to create extra movement and texture and then I will show you guys how I like to finish off my final piece and we are to our last piece iron goes in and twists like normal and again I'm leaving out just a little bit more hair perfect so all this hair is now curled I'm going to set it with some hairspray and then all you're going to do is just let it fully cool down and then I'm going to show you exactly how to run your hands through it to fluff it up a little bit more and then perfect any curls that might need retouching but I just will fluff through with my fingers just kind of loosening them up nothing crazy and I don't like to mess with it a Time because again the more you mess with it the more it's going to flatten out it's been a while since I used a clamp curling iron one thing bonus tip if you want I love a wand curling iron which is kind of overwhelming for a lot of people but if you wanted to come in after you've gotten it like smoothed out with your fingers and add more texture you can always just grab some random pieces and just you simply literally twist it around the iron you don't want to get your hands Too Close you don't want to burn your fingertips I've done that too many times and I will just sometimes do this at random it just creates a little bit different of a shape um sometimes I like to do it right along my front pieces and I actually tend to break my rule of pulling when I use a wand iron um I just set it for a little bit and then I Let It Drop and I'll just actually ever so slightly pull I don't know why it just Springs up so well so if you were to do that you'd let those curl again but what I like to do is come in with a texture paste this is AG's dry lift this is one of my favorite products to use it just creates some nice volume it's great to use on second day hair I just take a little bit on my thumb and I'm going to work that through my hands and I like to work it up in at my root area just to create a little bit of volume and I'll just run it through my hands a little bit and it just helps add a little bit more texture and fullness so fun so what we are going to do now is move [Music] in our curling flat iron and while that heats up I'm going to show you some nice slowo shots of the curls okay here are our final results with the T3 34 of an inch barrel they are nice and full last lot of movement and lots of texture okay look how much shorter this is with it curled versus when it's straight I literally lose so much length but I love it so now we are going to go into our rounded flat iron this does have this is the um timeo Aqua I think is what it's called it does have the option of cooling your hair on the outside with these little fans you guys can probably hear that um you can opt to leave this on or off for the purpose of this video I'm going to leave it off because it's going to mess with my mic but we're going to do our hair the same type of prepping way we start in the back we're going to be using our heat protectant and texture spray but the way we are going to be curling is going to be a little bit different because it is a flat iron so still section your hair off okay so you're going to grab your section of hair here and instead of twirling it we're going to place the iron in and you're just going to rock it back and forth always pulling out straight so it creates just a little bit of a wave it's not like your same typical curl but this is just for that bottom section cuz these pieces are a little short this is more ideal on a bob like if your hair's longer you would just do it how we're going to do it later but for the shorter pieces I do it like this so again put that clamp in twist down twist up back down and then pull straight and then I got my other piece back here perfect and usually this bottom section I don't really fasty that much because I can't see it and it won't matter all right so we're just going to come in to the next section so I'm going to curl some of this back first and then come back to you guys for the sides just because my camera angle is going to be really hard for you to see the back um but just know when you're doing the back you'll do the same motions as we do in the front so let me just do that really fast and then I'll come back for the sides okay I got through the back it was a bit challenging with my mirrors and the cameras but so we're going to come in again we are spraying our heat protectant first and that texture spray so when you are wrapping your hair with the flat iron you're going to do it in a similar way that we were doing with the curling iron so you're going to take your section and we're going to come in we're going to place our iron kind of in that same spot so you're going to put it in and you're just going to rotate it around through your hair in a little bit slower motion because you're not going to be holding it in place as long and then when you go to let it out you're just going to pull and slightly twist down I find this specific iron is not like too tight so you're able to Glide the hair through it especially when you take the appropriate size sections so show you again I'm going to place that in and you're just going to twist it around it Glides through very effortlessly open that clamp if you need to slide it down a little bit I hold for just a few seconds and then I twist and just pull straight out now once one thing I am going to show you in the next section I'm going to turn the fan on because that's actually the feature I like most about the specific iron because when the fan is on the hair that is resting on this outer fan the air is blowing out cool so it's going to help set that shape like we do here you still want to let it cool but it does help to set that shape a little bit faster than the curling iron and sort of locks it into place right away so to show you again place it in you're twisting and so as you're twisting that hair on this outer section is getting hit with a little bit cooler air so it's setting into place nicely for you and it creates a really nice curl and then again just spray that section of hair with some light hairspray off for the texture spray if you want and we're going to go to the next section going to start in the back I've got my section and I'm overdirecting this hair up a little bit to create a little bit more volume all right so this hair is pulled all the way up we're placing our iron in and just gliding through twisting I still leave a little bit of that hair out and then you're just going to untwist it and pull lightly at those ends and it just creates a nice springy curl and then I'm going away from my face you can open that clamp up if you feel like your hair is getting like caught or stuck it typically Glides through though really well and then just unwind and pull straight out [Music] so with the flat iron curls you're definitely going to move the iron through your hair a little bit slower than with the curling iron just because the heat gets distributed a little bit differently with the flat iron curls than with traditional curling iron and then our last piece here and perfect so now that that is done we're going to spray off again a little bit with some texture spray and hairspray and while the iron when it's on helps to cool the hair you still want to make sure you let it fully cool so I'm going to give it a second here and then I'll come back to show you how we fluff and then we'll do a nice side by side final comparison okay so now the flat iron curls have cooled and you're just going to run through them the same way as we did for our curling iron you can opt to flip your head if you want but I find actually that I don't always flip with the flat iron but ooh these came out so nice too I don't know which ones I like better honestly depends on the mood so I will opt to use a texture Spa paste I can't talk today or you could also use a texture spray depending on um what it is that you like or you don't have to use anything I want to keep that clear like you do not have to you could be done at this point and just set with some hairspray if you like Hairspray but I like a little bit of texture and I'll come in again just a little bit at my thumb mix it in and just go through and I like applying it up at my root area just to create a little bit more shape they look pretty similar but I don't know curling iron flat iron curling iron flat iron so yeah it's all personal preference but look how much more texture you can see in my color you can see the low lights the highlights that I have it gives a lot more movement and shape versus when it's just straight which is why I love curling my hair all right here we have our final look with a comparison side by side to show you guys the difference between the two curls we have here on my right side we did it with a 344 in clamp barrel curling iron this created a lot of texture I do feel like it creates just a little bit more volume maybe than with the flat iron and again we came in with a one blonde at random times to add just a little bit of more texture and then we have on my left side the flat iron curls which still create a lot of movement and a lot of texture I think they give a little bit more of a Sleek smoother look they are very similar as far as how the curls look but I do feel like they are just a little bit smoother than the curling iron you really can't go wrong with either option it all comes down to personal preference I very often go back and forth between the two depending on my mood always use a smaller curling iron in general though if your curls tend to fall flat and then again the flat iron is really cool because it has those cooling options on that outer rim to really help set your style into place everything will be linked Below in the description below should you want to check out anything for yourself I hope you all enjoyed and I will see you on the next one bye
