these are the 10 food items that you must try on your next visit to Honolulu Hawaii guys welcome back to another video and greetings from Honolulu here in Hawaii there are so many things to choose from when it comes to food Hawaii is a very Multicultural place the hardest part is choosing what to eat these are 10 items that we think you should not miss when you visit Hawaii first thing I want to recommend everyone to try out in Hawaii is the plate lunch now you might say oh we have plate lunches in our state or our country but the Hawaii plate lunch is pretty unique plate lunch consists of a protein usually two scoops of white rice and a scoop of macaroni salad today we're here at Rainbow Drive-In this is an institution in Hawaii it's been around since I was a kid and it's the place to come for some of the best original plate lunches and I decided to get the Mixed Plate I seem to always get this here because there are three different things here that is the deep fried mahimahi teriyaki beef and the boneless chicken which is one of their best items in the menu and as you can see there's a scoop of macaroni salad and two scoops of white rice if you want for an additional fee you can also get a side of brown gravy which you can pour everything if you want I recommend you get the brown gravy and pour over the rice that is good stuff the boneless chicken here is amazing um oh yeah that's so good it's fried to a crisp seasoned really really well and this is also great with the gravy obviously you can get plate lunches at other places around the island make sure to check out our older video we left the link in the description below this one so second thing you must eat in Hawaii is loco moco I love local good I think local movie is a wonderful iconic food in Hawaii and this one is also from Rainbow Drive Green okay so lokomoko is on top of rice there is a Hamburg steak and egg with Gravy Sauce side is macaroni salad and you can choose how to grill egg and this one is over easy I love runny egg this beautiful egg yolk combined with gravy and this hamburger steak this is a very nice combination rice gravy hamburger steak egg [Music] um is not only a rainbow dry beam you can eat variety of places in this island so please look for your favorite locomoco place all right the next thing you have to try in Hawaii is something called the spam musubi you can find this at many places throughout the islands but we think the best spam musubi at least as far as we know at least as far as we tried is from 7-Eleven and this is what it looks like this is the Teriyaki spam musubi this is our personal favorite they also have the non-teriaki spam musubi which is this one and this is what it looks like unwrapped guys isn't it cute it's like a gigantic sushi so it's a white rice on the bottom and it's topped with a grilled spam that's a doused in teriyaki sauce and it is all put together with a sheet of nori seaweed why is this really hits the spot it really does it's so comforting it's like eating onigiri in Japan this is the ultimate comfort food for me in Hawaii oh this reminds you of like picnics it reminds you of my mother's cooking it's really really good yeah this is why I like the Teriyaki there's some teriyaki sauce that gets on the rice as well it's so delicious it's sweet Savory Yum Yum Yum definitely something you need to try on your next visit to Hawaii Spam rice and Nori combination is pretty nice and rice is cooked perfectly okay when you guys come to Hawaii you have to have to have to try authentic Hawaiian food there are many places you can get Hawaiian food but if you're short on time we recommend checking out hoibo located inside the food court Makai Market food court at Ala Moana Shopping Center they've been serving local food as well as Hawaiian food since 1968. today we've got the local boys special which we both recommend highly and this comes with all your favorite Hawaiian foods such as Kahlua Pork Lo me Lomi salmon Lao La Lao Chicken Long rice and your choice of poi or rice like Kahlua Pig and POI oh my God my favorite combination hmm something you can get only here in Hawaii definitely give Hawaiian food a try my favorite Hawaiian food is chicken long rice it's semen and the shredded chicken with long rice so this is chicken dough rice I love this smell I could sometimes cook at home too long rice soak the chicken broth really nicely my favorite favorite next on the muscles is something called Simon this is a local noodle soup it is comforting it is delicious they've been serving this ever since I was a kid and I used to live here in Hawaii this is something that Satoshi and I both love one of our places to get Simon in town is a place called sekia sequia is also very nostalgic personally to me because we used to live right down the street from Sakia and this place is also just happens to be famous for their assignment I really really love Simon noodles I fall in love with this let me try the soup first I tried to make at this home I couldn't make it so nicely and yes I'm glad I'm drinking this soup okay this noodles looks like Ramen noodles [Music] a little bouncy and comes with soup really nicely so as you can see Simon is pretty basic it's just noodles in soup usually topped with Char Chu roast pork and green onions sometimes you'll find kamabuko fish cake now here's a pro tip they always give you a little plate of mustard here hot mustard so you want to add a little bit of soy sauce in it and what you do with that is you want to kind of like um put a little bit of this mustard in the spoon did add some noodles to it like this well at least this is the way I do it I think people have their own way of doing things and you eat hmm [Music] that is good stuff definitely try Simon you can also find Simon at the local 7-Eleven so if you don't want to go too far there are two 7-Elevens in Waikiki get a bowl of Simon at 7-Eleven all right guys next on the list is poke whether you have it on top of rice as a poke bowl or poke it straight up you have to have it here in Hawaii because this is where poke was born okay is world famous that's right even in Japan we've been I'm seeing you know some poker shops popping up here and there even in our neighborhood yeah not only in Japan in European countries that's right when we're into Amsterdam yeah there are many places where you can get Poke here on the island one of our favorite places is Foodland Foodland is a local supermarket and you can get your Pokeball there you can also get Poke uh by the weight we got a quarter pound of their Ahi Limu poke and this is actually probably our favorite you know a lot of people like the spicy ahi poke and you know all the other kind of stuff with avocado but I don't know we like the basic one this one it's a very basic one yeah yeah this is a seaweed kind of a seaweed yes and it works really well yes okay and and this one just has some green onions and seasoned with a Hawaiian salt I I guess that's about it mmm go over go for it my goodness always have to have pocket when you're here unfortunately sesame oil works really good sesame oil a little bit sesame oil Hawaiian cell I think that's about it as far as seasoning goes and like like we said you know you can get you know spicy Aji poke which many people like including my sister I think that's her favorite for some reason they didn't have taco poke today the octopus one and that's our second favorite so we were going to get fat today but yeah it didn't have it yeah they had a variety of Phuket in equivalent not only fish they have cucumber tofu or like so even if you are vegetarian you can enjoy pocket too that's right anyway like I said we haven't been to many Pokey shops around the island and many of you guys tell us we should be checking out some other places that's exactly what we're going to be doing sometime in the very near future so next you have to try marasada marasada is the one of the most popular sweets here in Hawaii marasada is a Portuguese donuts without Hall Leonard is original and one of the most popular shop of marasada they started selling marasada 1953 so this one is freshly deep fried marasada originally forever outside is crispy and sugary and I already know inside is very fluffy yes it's bouncy bouncy bouncy my favorite texture is um still warm it makes me very very happy nice sugarness yes I already said outside is very crisp not all very good it's not lightly crispy the donuts crispiness and good sugar taste them inside Rafi and a little bit squishy bouncy definitely you have to try Although our favorite is the original you can also get one of the stuffed malasadas this one is filled with jalapia which is a coconut cream [Music] take one more bite look at that that's a coconut cream oozing out of the malasada donut the donut is so fluffy so delicious not overly sweet crispy exterior oh to me this is better than a plain old Donut it's so good and definitely a must try so the next thing on our list is shave ice this is something you have to try especially if you like frozen desserts we're here at this place called ululani is recommended To Us by many of our friends here in Hawaii the space is based in Maui and they were rated the number one Shave Ice place on Maui even in this place we're here on a weekday there's a line to get your shaved ice it's a pretty popular place so this is party in the mouth with lihing powder leaking powder is complementary party in the mouth is calamansi passion fruit and something else Tamarind that's right tamarind holy moly oh okay I'm not over exaggerating Satoshi you're gonna be shocked at how smooth the ice is oh The Shave Ice here is so fine shaped so fine it's like eating snow oh my goodness and the flavor of the syrup is very very nice it's very natural tasting no wonder because they make all their syrups with uh 100 fruit puree using you know the best ingredients it really really makes a difference and they also use a hundred percent pure cane sugar oh calamansi goes so well with the lihin powder oh delicious I'm gonna try the passion fruit I'm assuming the yellow part is passion fruit oh my goodness the passion fruit syrup is amazing oh wow that's like Tropical Party in my mouth and this must be the Tamarind I've never had Tamarind syrup before okay party in the mouth that's the perfect name for this especially with the linking powder give this a try guys it's so good I think shaved ice is one of iconic sweets in Hawaii and this one is always a very iconic style rainbow rainbow color shaved ice I always eat rainbow colored shaved ice there are many many famous places of shape ice for example located in haleba the North Shore so this place is very new to us I'm very very looking forward to try she said it's very smooth so this one is strawberry pineapple and vanilla so and this area is combined yellow and blue so it becomes green here it's purple and orange yes really rainbow from the top oh I already know the texture is different very smooth wow what shall I compare to this it's a bit creamy yes it's very smooth creamy it's like a very light pear for me so clean so smooth um yeah forever I first I tasted this the leader it's very nice pineapple oh very good pineapple taste them it's very rich pineapple taste there are many many shaped ice place in Hawaii so please look for your favorite place so next up is Cocoa Puff shinichi really love this Cocoa Puff Cocoa Puff is invented by Liliha Bakery is a wonderful oldest Bakery here in Hawaii they started their business in 1950 and they invented this Coco Puff in 1970 so this is the soup pastry inside this chocolate pudding and on top it's chantery cream I think this iconic style is very cute [Music] happiness smooth chocolate pudding inside and Chantilly cream it has a lot of butter flavor sweet butter and chocolate combination and the texture of a stew pastry lots of farm using lots of chocolate pudding inside soap it's heavy it's heavier than you imagine oh [Music] the Cocoa Puff comes with original this one is the matcha they also have a chocolate version my suggestion though is to try the original first and then try the matcha and the chocolate hmm oh yeah that's good too look at all that beautiful matcha cream the earthiness of the matcha green tea and it's adjusting of sweetness that's a matcha flavor Chantilly cream on top so it's buttery sweet this is another thing I have to get out of every single visit to Hawaii last but not least is the manapua this is by far one of my favorite things on the entire list today so this is a steamed chashu manapua from a place called xinjiang Yuan Bakery in downtown Honolulu and it is one of my favorites you might think this is just a chargeable but it's actually not this is like a Hawaiian version of a chashu Bao I think it's a lot bigger than a trans and I think the bun looks a little bit different and the inside is definitely like local style let me show you what the inside looks like look at that first of all you have so much meat in this Mana product that's a lot of meat don't you think that's Char shoe roast pork seasoned beautifully with star anise and other seasonings oh my gosh I'm so excited [Music] um well I immediately I'm gonna go back to the store to buy like three more to take back to the hotel with me um the bun is so fluffy you know and it's different from nikuman in Japan it's completely different even the texture of the bun and the taste of the bun is different it's not as like um moist as the bun in Japan but I like it I like it it's not it's not I'm not saying it's dry either it's super flavorful and it goes so perfectly with a seasoned roast pork this is like the perfect light lunch for me just add like a plate of chow fun noodles and that's like the perfect meal but he says it's different is a little sweeter but it's well seasoned nice pork flavor I tried variety of manappa in my life when I came to Hawaii and now I'm a big fan of the manapua alright guys so that was our personal list of 10 things we think you must try in Honolulu
