- In this video, I'm talking about a way to improve your hearing
without using hearing aids, coming up. (upbeat music) Hi guys, Cliff Olson, doctor of audiology and founder of Applied Hearing Solutions in Anthem, Arizona. And on this channel I cover a bunch of hearing-related information to help make you a better informed consumer. So if you're into that, make sure you hit that subscribe button. And don't forget to click the
bell to receive a notification every time I post a new video. For some reason, there are
still those of you out there who do not want to get hearing aids. Perhaps it's because you're in denial, perhaps you feel like they
would make you look old, or perhaps you just don't
like the way that they look. I mean, look at these things. This is one that actually
goes behind your ear, so I'm gonna put it on so you can see what it looks like on me. There you go. So I'll give you a little bit of close up on the camera there and show you what it looks like when I'm back here and turn around. But there's also devices that go completely inside of your ear canal. So let me show you that one right here. I'm gonna go ahead and put that
one inside of my ear as well so you can get perspective
of what that looks like if you were to wear a device like this. Now instead of wearing these
traditional hearing aids I actually have a better option. All you have to do the
next time that you're talking to someone and
you're having difficulty understanding what they're saying is to just take your hands and cup them behind your ears like this, and it actually increases
the amount of sound that you get into your ears, and I have the data to prove it. What you're looking at here is the measurement of sound inside of an ear canal under
three different conditions. The blue curve indicates
sound in an ear canal without the benefit of a pinna, which is the part of the
ear that gathers sound and funnels it into the ear canal. When we add a pinna, we get
an amplification effect, which is indicated by the red curve. Any increase in the red curve above the blue curve
is the amount of boost in sound that you get
just by adding the pinna. If you then cup your hand behind your ear, you get an additional boost in sound, which is indicated by the green curve. As you can clearly see, you do get a boost in sound just by cupping your
hands behind your ears, and in some frequency ranges, this boost is pretty significant. Now I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, Cliff, I
cannot go walking around all day with my hands
cupped behind my ears, but don't worry, I've got you covered. That's why you need to go
get yourself a set of these. These are EarGlasses. This is what they look like. For only $10 you can go to Amazon, and I will have a link
in the description below. Get yourself a set of these, and all you have to do is cup them behind your ears like this. Now you don't even have
to hold your hands up behind your head. I mean take a look at these bad boys. Instead of having to wear
one of those hearing aids all you have to do is get a set of these, put them on your ears, and now you don't have to
wear hearing aids at all and you don't have to cup
your hands behind your head. You can use these to
watch TV, go to church, go to a music concert,
go to a family gathering, go on a hot date. Now according to the box, not
only can these amplify sounds coming from in front of you, but they can also restrict
the amount of noise that you get from behind
you and from your sides. However, the best part is
you don't have to worry about wearing hearing aids anymore. All you have to do is get yourself a set of these EarGlasses,
put them on your ears, and you don't have to
worry about what people are gonna think about you anymore. These guys help you hear better without the negative stigma
associated with hearing aids. Now if you watch my channel regularly you know that I like to do
an objective measurement on pretty much anything
I can get my hands on, so I went ahead and performed
real ear measurement on these just to show you how
much they boost my hearing. Using real ear measurement
I was able to play sound from a speaker and measure that sound inside of my ear canal
without using the EarGlasses. This measurement is indicated
by the purple curve. Any increase in this purple curve above the zero line indicates
the natural amplification created by my ear canal and my pinna. Then, I placed the EarGlasses on my ears and remeasured the same sound to see how much of a
boost that it gave me, which is indicated by the red curve, and while it did give a
boost in the mid frequencies by up to 10 decibels, it also reduced some
of the high frequencies by about eight decibels. Overall, would these EarGlasses give me a significant boost in hearing? The answer is, probably not, but would it give a little bit of a boost. The answer is, well, yeah. Guys, if you don't want
to get hearing aids I totally get it. But now you have an alternative if you actually wanna hear better, and that Alternative is EarGlasses. So if you wanna get yourself
a set of these bad boys make sure you click the link
in the description below before they're sold out. That's it for this video. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments section below. If you like the video please share it. And if you wanna see other
videos just like this one, go ahead and hit that subscribe button. I'll see ya next time. (light gentle music)
This is some grade A trolling.
He almost had me mad. But this is the BEST video heβs ever done I think!
I like my vintage horn from an early record player, thanks !
Yeah, because cupping your hands behind your ears during a date or an interview looks so less weird than wearing a modern hearing aid.
