a poor quality hose clamp can leave you stranded so the question is is that 20 cent hose clamp just as good as the one that cost almost nine dollars well let's find out and the first test we'll see which hose clamp offers the best sealing pressure then we'll see which hose clamp has the best tensile strength we'll test the hose clamps for max failure load finally we'll see which hose clamp offers the best resistance to corrosion at a price of 15 for 80 pieces or 19 cents each is this maxina brand made of high quality stainless steel effectively prevents rust and corrosion the maxilla brand is made in china the maxi weighs 13.84 grams let's see how the clamps perform sealing a pipe with five holes i'll place the hose directly over the holes and i'll tighten the hose clamps to 30 inch pounds and the maximum worm gear is just not very smooth and doesn't seem to be staying aligned with the slots and to max to made it to 475 psi before the hose began leaking and losing pressure even at only 30 inch pounds of torque the maximus slots are bent and a little chewed up so there's quite a bit of mechanical resistance while trying to tighten the hose clamps to 30 inch pounds at a price of 22 dollars for 112 pieces or 20 cents each is this chuwaski brand made of 304 stainless steel good acid and corrosion resistance very flexible and can be tightly tied to pipe without loosening the juwowwski brand is made in china the jawaski weighs 14.89 grams when installing the jawaski it seems a little bit smoother than the maxnet when setting the clamp tension to 30 inch pounds and a jawaski minute to 575 psi or 100 psi more than the maxina the worm gear did cause some wear and tear to the slots at a price of 21 for 100 hose clamps is this glarks brand adjustable 8 to 44 millimeter range the band housing and screw are made of 304 stainless steel high performance corrosion resistance and acid resistance the glarks brand is made in china the glarks is the heaviest yet at 15.41 grams when installing the clamp there seems to be less grinding and binding with the glarks than the maxnet and the jawaski and the glare submitted to 700 psi before giving up however the worm gear did cause some wear and tear to the slots at a price of 13 for 60 hose clamps or 22 cents each is this hilichi brand seven adjustable sizes ranging from eight to thirty eight millimeters high quality stainless steel used in securing hoses around pipes or for automotive use the hiluchi is made in china the helichi weighs 14.84 grams the worm gear in the slots on the hilichi don't seem to be as smooth as the glarks and elechi moves into third place behind the jawaski at 550 psi and the slots in the hose clamp band are a little bit chewed up at a price of 14 for 60 hose clamps or 23 cents each is this sw peat brand the assortment kit ranges from 6 to 38 millimeters claims to have excellent corrosion resistance properties the sw peat is made in china the swp weighs 14.5 grams installing the sw peat seems to be about the same as the hiluchi and sw peat made it to 500 psi before leaking there's a small amount of wear and tear with the swp at a price of 17 for 60 pieces or 28 cents each is this lockman brand lochman describes the quality of their hose clamp as premium made of 304 stainless steel hose clamp sizes range from 6 to 38 millimeters they claim their hose clamps can be reused over and over the lochman brand is made in china the lockman weighs 14.57 grams the lockman seems very similar to the swp and the lock wind performed about average at 600 psi before it began leaking the slots experienced some minor wear and tear at a price of 13 for 30 pieces or 43 cents each is this industry brand made of three or four stainless steel six size ranges going from 6 to 51 millimeters the industry brand is made in china the indus ski weighs 15.87 grams and the indus ski wasn't as smooth to install as the glarks with the worm gear and slots that seem to be a little bit out of step 625 psi is good enough to move in a second position behind the glarks a price of seven dollars for 10 pieces or 70 cents each is this kohler brand 300 series stainless steel band provides maximum corrosion resistance to salt and most chemicals clamping range from one and one-sixteenth of an inch all the way up to two inches the kohler brand is made in china and the color is by far the heaviest yet at 21.82 grams and the worm gear in a slot seem to be very well aligned and smooth compared to the previous brands and the cola moves into the lead at 750 psi the slots on the collar show the least amount of wear yet at a price of 12 dollars for 10 clamps or dollar 20 each is this mishimoto brand it claims to be a high torque worm gear clamp 33 to 57 millimeters or 1.3 to 2.24 inches stainless steel construction resists corrosion longer than zinc plated clamps worm gear designed for quick and easy tightening there's no information on the packaging regarding where the hose clamps are manufactured the mishimoto is the heaviest yet at 23.67 grams and the worm gear in a slot seemed very well aligned on the mishimoto 710 psi to move into second place behind the kohler and the mishimoto held up very well also the price of 12 for 10 clamps the same price as the mishimoto is this breeze brand power seal stainless steel hose clamp plated screw and half inch bandwidth heavy duty construction it claims to have superior corrosion resistance designed for industrial marine automotive agricultural plumbing and lawn and garden the breeze hose clamps are made in usa the breeze hose clamp is 23.54 grams compared to the other brands the slots on the breeze are more oval which seems to offer a little bit more strength and prevents the hose clamp slots from buckling under pressure and the breeze clamp has done the best yet at 1010 psi and the clamp seems to be in very good shape with only minor wear and tear at a price of 14 for 10 hose clamps or dollar 40 each is this precision brand stainless steel band and housing plated steel screw sizes 19 to 70 millimeters the band's edges are rounded to help prevent hose damage three-piece construction is weld free to help reduce opportunities for corrosion provides resistance to corrosion in marine environments the precision brand is made in usa the precision weighs 24.25 grams and the slot design of the precision looks about the same as most of the other brands and the precision lost pressure at 750 psi and the precision does seem to have more wear compared to the breeze at a price of 22 dollars for 10 hose clamps or 2 dollars and 20 cents each is this ideal trident brand made of 300 series stainless steel size 11 16 inch and a half proven designs billions of times the ideal trident brand is made in usa the idea weighs 19.51 grams there seems to be a lot of excessive friction between the worm gear and the slots on the ideal trident brand 660 psi and the slots on the ideal tried and look like they were bent inward from worm gear contact at a price of fourteen dollars for five clamps or two dollars and eighty cents each is this clips and fasteners brand unlike the other hose clamps we'll be testing these are constant tension band hose clamps the hose clamp works with sizes one and fifteen thirty seconds to one and three quarters of an inch the clemson fasteners brand is made in usa the clips and fasteners weighs 25 grams and the hose is about one millimeter too small for the hose clamp but let's try it anyway and the needle stayed on zero when the hose lost its seal i'll add some vinyl tape so the clamp can apply a lot more tension word over 42 millimeters and a constant tension clamp held very close to 250 psi before it began leaking at a price of 31 for 10 hose clamps or 3 and 10 cents each is this norma brand ideally suited for applications with high mechanical loads asymmetrical construction which provides high clamping force and superior torque strength provides even distribution of clamping pressure clamps align perfectly on the hose to ensure optimal sealing of the connection the normal hose clamps are made in germany the normal weighs 17.28 grams and the german-made normal hose clamps worm gear and slots seem very smooth and precise and the normal moves into the lead at 1 200 psi very impressive and the normal hose clamp still looks as good as new at a price of 40 for 10 hose clamps or 4 each is a scanvik brand rolled up band edges prevent cutting into the hose 60 degree thread pitch angle creates a vibration proof clamp all press worm gear housing increases strength of the clamp by 30 316 stainless steel hose clamps offer premium corrosion resistance there's no information on the packaging where these clamps are made the scanfig weighs 24.22 grams and the scanvit clamp has a very similar design as a normal hose clamp and it made it to 1010 psi before giving up only a small amount of wear and tear with the scanvik at a price of 16 for 4 clamps or four dollars each is this acacia brand the size ranges from 36 to 39 millimeters 304 stainless steel adjustable heavy duty pipe strap clamps rounded edge to keep from cutting into hoses designed to provide a leak-free connection high-pressure hose clamp can be used in a variety of applications from automotive to special equipment the hose clamp is spot welded in three locations the kisha brand is made in china and the kiss is by far the heaviest yet at 53.9 grams the hose clamp is designed for 36 to 39 millimeters and the hose is just over 36 millimeters and the akisa just wasn't able to apply enough clamp load 50 psi i added some vinyl tape to allow the akisa to apply more clamping force and the kiss i made it to 410 psi before it began leaking and the most expensive hose clamp will be testing at eight dollars and seventy-five cents each is made by mishimoto there's no information on the packaging regarding where the hose clamp is made outer diameter from 32 to 54 millimeters or an inch and a quarter to 2.13 inches constant tension spring maintains clamping pressure through a wide range of temperatures worm gear designed for quick and easy tightening stainless steel construction resists corrosion longer than zinc plated clamps the outer edge is routed to keep from cutting into hose and the mishimoto gold is by far the heaviest at 92.74 grams the mishimoto gold is designed for 32 millimeters and larger and the hose is 36 millimeters and the hose sprung a leak just under the worm gear housing so it doesn't seem to be spreading the pressure as evenly as some of the other brands 460 psi and the worm gear is making quite a bit of contact with the outer surface of the band lots of things affect how well the hose clamps performed in this test including thread pitch worm gear and strap quality as well as how much the hose clamp stretched under load and the norma came out on top at 1 200 psi freezing scan it tied for second at 1010 psi colon precision 750 psi the clamp with the most width is the akisa at 19.8 millimeters the mishimoto gold is 15.7 and precision 12.7 millimeters clamp width and thickness could be a big factor in clamp strength the worm gear style clamp with the greatest thickness is the mizumoto gold at just over one millimeter the scan book is 0.94 norma 0.85 and ideal trident 0.7 millimeters i've seen hose clamps used for all sorts of things including a super strong zip tie so let's test the tensile strength of each brand and the max to hose clamp finally broke at a thousand and seventy one pounds the worm gear assembly held up just fine but the strap finally broke and the jawaski performed about the same as the maxi finally breaking at a thousand and nineteen pounds and the jawoski strap broke in a similar area just like the maxna and the glark weighs a little bit more than the maxi and the juwasky and the glarks moves into the lead at one thousand one hundred and forty three pounds and the strap broke near the same location as the other brands and the strap on the hilichi is a little bit thicker compared to the previous brands and the thicker strap really helped the hilichi perform well at 1 336 pounds to take the lead from the glarks the band finally broke but the worm gear assembly was ruined as well and the swp strap isn't quite as thick as a helices and the swp broke at 1 181 pounds to move in a second position just like a lot of the other brands the sw pete's band was the point of failure and the lockmen performed well but it finally came unlocked at 1099 pounds and the strap broke just as the worm gear assembly was coming apart and the indus ski performed about the same as the lockman at 1 pounds the worm gear assembly was the point of failure and the kohler hose clamp is stronger than average finally coming apart at 1 263 pounds to move into second place the band held up just fine but the worm gear mechanism fell apart the mishimoto clamp is quite a bit heavier than the less expensive brands and the mission modem moves into the lead at 1 475 pounds just like most of the other brands the strap was the point of failure and the slots in the breeze leave more material on the band compared to most of the other brands and the breeze moves into the lead at 2 000 pounds and the strap broke very close to the worm gear assembly and the strap on the precision is a little bit wider than less expensive brands and the precision gave up at 872 pounds the strap held up just fine but the worm gear assembly finally broke the ideal trident hose clamp is a little bit wider than the less expensive brands and the ideal trident clamp broke at just over a thousand pounds the strap held up just fine but the worm gear assembly came apart the width of the strap on the normal is nine millimeters compared to round 12 for most of the other brands and the normal still performed very well at 1 277 pounds the band held up just fine but it came loose from the worm gear assembly and the scanvik is built a lot like the normal but the strap is about 3.5 millimeters wider and the scanvik broke at 1 390 pounds just like the norma the band broke loose from the worm gear assembly and the akissa outlasted the scale at over 2 200 pounds so let's use a much larger scale and the acacia offers a tremendous amount of strength finally letting go at 2 975 pounds and the ends of the strap stretched and slid off of the pin we'd better stay with the large scale since the mishimoto gold seems very heavy duty and the mishimoto gold refused to give in but finally broke at 5420 pounds very impressive the strap held up just fine but the worm gear assembly came apart so the mishimoto gold is by far the strongest at five thousand four hundred and twenty pounds the akisha performed well at two thousand nine hundred and seventy five breeze two thousand and mishimoto one thousand four hundred and seventy five pounds let's test the tightening failure point of the hose clamps next and the worm gear housing begins separating from the strap and the very affordable maxima brand gave up at 44 inch pounds and the slots are bent inward and pretty badly damaged and the jawski's worm gear assembly did a lot better job of staying together 74 inch pounds however the slots are eating up pretty badly and the glare worm gear assembly did even better than the drowski's making it to 79-inch pounds and the slots are badly damaged and bent the helicity strap is about 10 percent thicker than the glarks and the helichi finally let go at 114 inch pounds to move into the lead and the slides are bent inward and experienced quite a bit of damage the swp performed very similar to the hilichi at 106 inch pounds and the slots are bent and chewed up pretty badly and the lockmen couldn't quite keep up with the hilichi in the sw peak giving up at only 61 inch pounds and the lockman completely destroyed the slots the indus key experienced the same type of failure as several other brands with a screw moving down into the assembly 66 inch pounds and the slots are bent and in pretty bad shape and the kohler performed quite a bit better than the lockman in the indus ski the warm screw moved out of the home position and down into the assembly it made it to 85 inch pounds and the slots are bent inward the mishimoto's worm gear assembly is very well built and stayed together and the mishimoto finally gave up at 110 inch pounds and the slots in the mishimoto are bent and experienced quite a bit of damage the worm gear assembly on a breeze seems very smooth compared to the less expensive brands and the breeze let go at 74 inch pounds the worm gear moved outward and away from the strap the precision worm gear assembly seems very smooth just like the breeze and a precision finally let go at 91 inch pounds and the worm gear assembly held up with the strap experienced a lot of damage the ideal hose clamp held on longer than all the other brands finally letting go at 123 inch pounds however the strap did experience quite a bit of damage and the normal hose clamp is very smooth and it performed very well making it the 94 inch pounds just like several of the other brands the worm gear assembly moved away from the strap and finally lost grip the scan vic is very smooth just like the normal clamp and the scanvit lost traction at 69 inch pounds the worm gear assembly bent away from the band i'll go ahead and add some tape so we can add some hose diameter for the akisha the acacia has a lot less range but applies a lot more clamp load and the bolt finally broke at 170 inch pounds and the mission molded gold is built like a tank and the torque wrench is maxed out at 282 inch pounds so let's use a larger torque wrench and the mishimoto gold's drive bolt finally broke at 341 inch pounds hose clamp failure margins vary significantly from brand to brand but the mission moto gold came out on top at 341 inch pounds akisha finished in second at 170 ideal 123 and a litchi 114 inch pounds let's test the corrosion resistance of the clamps next i'll go ahead and apply several applications of the rusting agent we'll check back on this in about 24 hours it's been very close to 24 hours so let's take a closer look at each of the brands and see which ones perform the best of all the hose clamps the maximum definitely has the most rust the drywasky actually performed very well with just a very small amount of corrosion the glarks performed better than the maximum but not quite as well as the jawaski the lychee experienced quite a bit more oxidation compared to the jawaski and the glarks the hiluchi and the swp look about the same the lockman definitely performed better than all the previous brands with no visible corrosion the indus ski has about the same amount of corrosion as the jawaski the kohler performed well but not nearly as well as the lockman the mission motor performed extremely well just a small amount of corrosion on the damaged slots the breeze also performed very well with just a couple of areas where corrosion is just beginning to form the precision definitely experienced more corrosion compared to the breeze the damaged area the ideal trident experienced a small amount of corrosion but the rest of the strap looks pretty good not a whole lot of testing was done on the clips and fasteners but the paint is doing a great job of blocking corrosion the normal hose clamp has done a really good job of blocking corrosion just a couple of areas where corrosion is just beginning to form the scanvik is definitely going to be a great pick for marine environments it's held up extremely well and has the least amount of rust compared to all the other brands the kisses also held up very well with just a small amount of corrosion forming on one of the pins the mishimoto gold is held up really well however there is some corrosion beginning on the worm gear assessing corrosion resistance is highly subjective but the lachman breeze norma and the scanvik receive the highest possible rating of one most of the other brands perform well with a rating of two switch hose clamp is the best the mishimoto didn't win any specific event but was a very consistent top five performer the norma came in on top on probably the most important test for most people and still perform well in the other categories the mishimoto is big strong and very expensive i really like the breeze quite a bit considering the price and the performance when it comes to hose clamps i don't mind spending a little bit more money in order to get the quality i really like the norma breeze and mishimoto clamps they are very high quality all the videos in this channel including this one are viewer suggested so if you have a video idea i hope you'll take time to leave a comment thanks so much for watching please take care and look forward to next time
