Love Project Farm.

It's nice to see that he finally got a HP battery to use. He's done some of the HP tools in the past but used a older regular battery and they always seemed to come up short.

I have both Ryobi and Ridgid drills / drivers, and like both of them for different reasons. One of the things I really dislike about the Ryobis though is that the LED is only active while the trigger is pulled. Having it stay on for even 5 or 10 seconds makes such a difference when trying to work in dark, cramped spaces. Especially on a right angle drill, since they're almost exclusively used for getting into awkward spots where you can't get a normal drill.

I just really hate when products do all of the hard things right, and then mess up one simple detail that has a huge effect on usability. Such a small change would make a world of difference.

The best right angle drill is the one you already have a battery for.

I was surprised he got the brushless ryobi for $100. Last I saw HomeDepot was charging about $150 for it. I've already blown my tool budget for the entire year, but it was really hard not to order one from the link in the description on the video on youtube. If I didn't already have the brushed version, I probably would've done it.

Thanks for mentioning this. I rarely need something like this, but when I do, it would really come in handy. May be worth trying to snag one inexpensively from DTO some time.

No offense to Todd but I can't believe he put the HP on his recommend list after it started smoking during the lawnmower test. Since I have One+, Ridgid, and M12 batteries the Ridgid is the no brainer based on his testing.

I 100% believe this. It's probably the best drill I own!

in many instances a right angle drill will help get the job done so the question is is that 50 drill just as good as the one that cost over 150 let's find out and the first test we'll see which drill works the fastest then we'll see which drill makes the most torque we'll see which drills can survive a two-minute endurance test at a price of only 55 the least expensive right angle drill we'll be testing is made by costway unlike the other brands the cost weight comes as a kit and includes a battery and a charger maximum torque is 106 inch pounds we're going to test that 12 volt 2 000 milliamp hour battery variable speed switch delivers high speed and torque it claims to deliver up to 700 rpm the causeway uses a brushed motor the causeway is made in china the cosway weighs 2.4 pounds or 1 090 grams and the cosway is just not very compact at 4.36 inches 24 inches from the sound meter the causeway is very quiet at 71.3 decibels on a fully charged battery the cosway wouldn't spend any slower than 86 rpm without stalling and topped out at 714 rpm let's see how quickly the costway can drive in a number ten by four and a half inch deck screw in the first test and the cosway lost a lot of rpm driving in the first screw and needed 4.6 seconds and a cost weight averaged 4.5 seconds and all three screws we'll be testing two different versions of the ryobi right angle drill the least expensive of the two though costs 79 dollars and it's the robie one plus zero to 1 100 rpm the led light only illuminates once the trigger is pulled and it also shuts off as soon as the trigger is released the robo uses an 18 volt brushed motor two finger variable speed trigger 3 8 inch single sleeve keyless chuck mag tray and onboard bit storage the roby brand is made in china 4.14 inches for the roby their ob weighs 2.945 pounds or 1 336 grams the roby offers a lot more rpm range than the causeway 41 rpm low in the row be topped out at 1020. 75.6 decibels for the robbie and the robie is almost twice as fast as the cost way throughob is also very consistent driving in all three screws and right at 2.42 seconds each let's go and test both options of milwaukee drilled the first one we'll be testing is the milwaukee m12 which costs right at 99. extended paddle switch allows for controlled use in multiple positions electronic clutch with 11 settings plus drill mode for complete control onboard fuel gauge displays remaining run time zero to 800 no load rpm the milwaukee has a 3 8 inch ratcheting chuck max torque 100 inch pounds built-in led illuminates the work surface and indicates when clutch is out made in china and the milwaukee m12 is the most compact yet at only 3.8 inches the milwaukee weighs 2.045 pounds or 928 grams the slowest of milwaukee would spin is 38 rpm and it's right at its max rpm rating at just over 800. 74.1 decibels for the milwaukee on a fully charged 4 amp hour battery the m12 is about a second slower than the roby on the four and a half inch screws and the milwaukee is very consistent at 3.28 seconds on each of the screws at a price of a hundred dollars is this ryobi one plus hp brushless motor it claims to offer two times more torque the most compact 18 volt right angle drill the led light on the robe is activated once the trigger is squeezed and once the trigger is released the light remains on for around 20 seconds two speed transmission brushless motor provides up to 350 inch pounds of torque we're going to test that the roby one plus is on the left and robbie oneplus hp is on the right their ob1 plus hp is definitely more compact therobi is made in china 3.56 inches for the roby one plus hp and the roby weighs 2.4 pounds or 1090 grams 76.1 decibels for the robbie oneplus hp and the robie has the best low rpm control yet at only 18 and 446 in low range it spins the fastest yet at 1 685 rpm in high range so in the high range the robbie one plus hp is almost 30 percent faster than aerobie one plus 1.8 seconds on average to take the lead from the ryobi one plus at a price of 119 is this cobalt brand 24 volt brushless motor up to 250 inch pounds of torque zero to six hundred and first gear zero to two thousand and second variable speed trigger slim handle for superior ergonomics includes three torque settings plus drill mode the led light stays eliminated for about 10 seconds after the trigger is released made in china 3.9 inches for the cobalt and a cobalt weighs 2.805 pounds or 1 274 grams and the cobalt's allowed us yet at 82 decibels the cobalt's rpm range from 100 in first gear and topped out at 591 and the cobalt is the fastest spinning drill yet at 1 950 rpm in high range and the cobalt averages 1.2 seconds per screw at a price of 120 is this metabo hpt side handle included for added control during tough applications capable of reaching 1800 rpm low battery indicator monitors the status to reduce downtime includes an led light the metabo uses a brushed motor the metabo is made in china animatable is the most compact yet at 3.45 inches and the metabo hpt weighs exactly the same as the cobalt at point eight zero five pounds or one thousand two hundred and seventy four grams the metabo hpt rpms range from seventy eight to just over one thousand six hundred and metabolish yet at eighty three point eight decibels and the metabo hpt is fast enough to move into third place behind the roby one plus and the cobalt very consistent times with matabo at 2.12 seconds on average at a price of 129 or about 30 dollars more than the m12 is this milwaukee m18 includes an extended multi-position paddle switch 11 clutch settings plus drill mode for complete control variable speed design provides up to 1 500 rpm powerful motor delivers up to 125 inch pounds of torque the milwaukee has a brushed motor once the trigger is released the led light stays lit for about 10 seconds includes redlink intelligence which provides optimized performance and overload protection the milwaukee is made in china and milwaukee's right at 3.84 inches the milwaukee m18 weighs 2.725 pounds or 1 236 grams 77.1 decibels for milwaukee m18 and the milwaukee's rpm range from 44 to 1494. and the milwaukee m18 is about twice as fast as the milwaukee m12 1.7 seconds on average to move into second place behind the cobalt at a price of 139 is this rigid brand industry's most compact right angle drill at only three and a half inches best in class power at 375 inch pounds of torque we're going to test that once the trigger's released the ridgid's led light stays activated for about 15 seconds two-speed gearbox delivers zero to 500 rpm in first and zero to 192nd and the ridge is the same as the ryobi oneplus hp at 3.56 inches the ridgid is made in china and the ridgid has an rpm range from 20 to 492 in low range and 1852 in high range and the ridgid is the lightest tool yet at 2.04 pounds or 924 grams 82.4 decibels for the rigid considering the compact size and weight the ridge would perform very well at only 1.41 seconds and moves into second place behind the cobalt also the price of 139 dollars the same price as the ridgid is this dewalt brand dual speed ranges from 0 to 650 and 0 to 2 000 rpm the dewalt has a 3 8 inch ratcheting chuck with dpex pocket the dewalt's led light stays illuminated for around 20 seconds after the trigger is released the dewalt uses a brushed motor the dewalt brand is made in mexico depending on where you measure the dewalt it's around four inches the dewalt has an rpm range from 23 to 636 rpm in low gear and 1850 in high gear the dewalt weighs just over three pounds or 1 362 grams 79.4 decibels for the dewalt the dewalt is larger and heavier than the rigid but not quite as fast at 1.5 seconds on average at a price of 159 the most expensive brand we'll be testing is made by makita built-in 4-pole motor delivers 121 inch pounds of max torque side handle for extra comfort and control variable speed from zero to 1800 rpm the makita is built with a brushed motor after the trigger is released the led light stays illuminated for around 14 seconds the makita uses an 18 volt battery the makita is made in japan and makit is very close to 3.5 inches the makita has a single speed transmission and has an rpm range from 90 to 1 939 the makita weighs 2.6 pounds or 182 grams 77 decibels for the makita and the makita performed about the same as the rigid at 1.41 seconds on all three screws so the drill that drives the four and a half inch deck screws the fastest is a 24 volt cobalt at only 1.2 seconds on average the rigid makita tied for second at 1.4 seconds dewalt 1.5 and milwaukee m18 1.7 seconds if tool weight is a factor in your purchasing decision the very powerful ridgid is the lightest at only 2.04 pounds the milwaukee m-12 is nearly as light at 2.05 pounds causeway and ryobi one plus 2.4 pounds and makita 2.61 pounds front to back distance can make a big difference in accessing tight areas and the metabo hpt is only 3.45 inches the makita is nearly compact at 3.5 ruby one plus hp and rigid 3.56 inches let's see how the drills perform driving in some 5 16 inch by 5 inch lag bolts i'll use a torque adapter to keep track of the maximum torque beginning with the causeway and the causeway has a single speed gear and quickly ran out of steam and a cosway stalled at only 38 inch pounds of resistance just like the causeway the roby oneplus has a single speed gear and narobi made a lot more progress finally giving up at 72 inch pounds and the milwaukee gave up at 40 inch pounds or 2 inch pounds more than the causeway their ob1 plus hp has a 2 speed gear box 60 inch pounds of torque and high range i'll switch to a much larger torque adapter and a much bigger lag bolt and the low range really helped the robie oneplus hp more than triple the maximum output compared to the high range at 196 inch pounds just like the robie oneplus hp the cobalt has a two speed gearbox 52 inch pounds in high range and a cobalt ran out of steam in low range at 167 inch pounds or 29 inch pounds less than the robie one plus hp and a metal has a single speed gearbox and a metabo is fast but it just doesn't make a lot of torque at 61 inch pounds and the milwaukee m18 only delivered five inch pounds more than the m12 at 45 inch pounds the ridges performed well in second gear at 62 inch pounds considering the compact size and the light weight of the ridgid it performed extremely well in low range 179 inch pounds move in the second place behind the roby the dewalt quickly ran out of steam in high range at 69 inch pounds and the dewalt makes a lot of torque and low range at 211 inch pounds to move into the lead over the roby one plus hp even though the makita has a single speed gearbox it still performed well at 106 inch pounds which is the best of all the single speed tools all of the drills with two speed gearboxes outperform the ones with single speeds and the dewalt came in on top at 211 inch pounds robie oneplus hp 196 rigid 179 and cobalt 167 inch pounds for certain projects a right angle drill with a wood boring bit is critical so let's see how each of the drills performed beginning with a three-quarter inch self-feeding spade bit on a fully charged battery the costly lasted less than two seconds and couldn't quite get the job done and the robie oneplus hp made quick work at only 2.51 seconds so let's see if it can handle a one-inch bit and there will be one plus needed 3.79 seconds for the one-inch bit let's see if the roby can handle an inch and a half cell feed bit unfortunately roby just doesn't make enough torque the milwaukee m12 isn't nearly as fast as the robie oneplus 3.79 seconds and a one inch bit is just too much for the milwaukee the robbie oneplus hp blasted through the two by four in only 2.01 seconds to move into the lead and the robie oneplus hp ran out of steam in high range after two and a half seconds and the ruby oneplus hp made very easy work on the one in spade bit in low range but the lower gear speed required quite a bit longer at 6.33 seconds and the roby one plus hp is the first drill that's up to the task of boring a hole with the inch and a half bit 6.78 seconds let's see if the roby can handle a two and eight inch bit and the roby lost a lot of speed but it never stalled 8.11 seconds to bore a two and a eight inch hole and the cobalt is the fastest drill yet at 1.46 seconds and the cobalt ran out of steam with the one inch bit in high range the cobalt has more than enough torque and low range for the one inch bit at 4.15 seconds and the cobalt is about two seconds faster than the rugby oneplus hp with the inch and a half bit 4.3 seconds and the cobalt is nearly twice as fast as the robie oneplus hp with a two and an eighth inch bit 4.86 seconds the metabo hpt board to three quarter inch hole in 2.22 seconds unfortunately the metabo has a single speed transmission and it just doesn't make enough torque to handle the one inch bit and the milwaukee m18 made the three-quarter inch hole in 1.97 seconds unfortunately the milwaukee m18 has a single speed transmission and it just wasn't able to handle the one-inch bit and the roots it moves into a two-way tie with the cobalt at 1.46 seconds and the ridgid is the fastest yet with the one inch bit at 1.82 seconds not enough torque in high range and the ridgid made easy work of the inch and a half bit in low range at 5.06 seconds which is almost a second slower than the cobalt and the ridgid makes more than enough torque to handle the two and eight inch bit at 5.47 seconds and the dewalt is very fast with the three quarter inch bit at 1.71 seconds and the dewalt is nearly as fast as the ridgid with the one inch bit at 2.52 seconds not enough torque and high range once again the dewalt performed very well at 4.96 seconds with the inch and a half bit which is the second fastest time the 2 and 1 8 inch bit really slowed the dewalt quite a bit 6.43 seconds to move into third place behind the ridgid the makita is very fast at 1.51 seconds with a three-quarter inch bit and the makita made the second fastest time with the one-inch bit at 1.97 seconds with the one-speed gearbox the makita just doesn't make enough torque for the inch and a half bit with a three-quarter inch bit the cobalt and ridgid are the fastest at 1.46 seconds makita is nearly as fast at 1.51 dewalt 1.71 and milwaukee m18 1.97 seconds only six of the ten right angle drills had enough torque to handle a one inch bit and the ridgid came out on top at 1.82 seconds some of the drills have high and low range transmissions and had to use low range and that really slowed their speed quite a bit only the drills that had two speed transmissions were able to have enough torque to handle the inch and a half and the two and eight inch bits the next test is a torture test to see which drills can handle a continuous load for two minutes there's no spark plug in the lawnmower but the engine brake is applied so the drills will be facing a 33 inch pound load during the test and acosta was stalled during the first attempt but it was able to get the engine spinning and the casualty ran out of steam after only 12 seconds with the fully charged battery the ruby one plus which has a single speed gearbox lasted two minutes without a problem with the fully charged 4 amp hour battery the m12 only lasted 18 seconds after about 45 minutes to charge the battery the roby one plus needed two tries to get the engine spinning in high range and the ruby one plus lasted about 80 seconds before it began smoking badly and then it powered down after cooling off the roby is back in action and the cobalt just couldn't get the engine spinning over in high range and the cobalt easily survived the two minute test in low range and it took about four seconds to get the metabo hpt going and the metabo ran out of steam after 20 seconds of actual run time and the milwaukee m18 has a single speed transmission and just couldn't get the engine spinning over the ridgid couldn't get the engine spinning over in high gear and the ridgid performed very well surviving the two-minute test in low range and the dewalt has plenty of torque to get the drill spinning over in high range and the dewalt was doing a great job but began smoking after about 45 seconds unfortunately the dewalt doesn't seem to have overload protection and it shut off after a minute and five seconds after allowing the dwell to cool unfortunately the dewalt is still smoking pretty badly the makita has a single speed gearbox and had no problem getting the engine spinning over and the makita lasted the full two minutes so only four drills lasted the entire 120 seconds most of the drills which did not last the entire two minutes seem to have adequate overload protection except for the roby oneplus hp and the dewalt while the robie oneplus hp did survive the test it did overheat pretty badly unfortunately the dewalt is run assessing ergonomics is highly subjective however just taking into consideration the location of the ford reverse switch the tool grip size and the trigger location the rugby oneplus hp cobalt and the ridgid seem the best design earning an a-plus rating the ford reverse switch in all three drills is located out of the way but within easy reach while holding the tool the small diameter grip size helps prevent hand fatigue while allowing one finger trigger access their ob1 plus is very well designed but the grip size is just a little bit larger than the other tools the milwaukee m12 ford reverse switch is located on the handle under the fingers which seems like a poor location and the grip size is a little too large the metabo hpt only allows two fingers worth of space to grip the handle without interfering with the trigger the milwaukee m18s grip is a little bit large and it's pretty challenging to access the ford reverse switch while using just one hand the dewalt and the makita are very well designed but the grip size seems just a little bit too large the grip size on the causeway seems a little bit too large the ford reverse width seems poorly located in the center of the hand grip the trigger location prevents gripping the tool securely without coming into contact with the trigger so which drill is the best i really like the roby one plus hp the ridgid as well as the cobalt all three of the drills have the brushless motor the two speed transmissions and terrific ergonomics i'd be willing to buy any of these drills if the price was right however the robbie oneplus hp definitely seems like the best value when you consider the price all the videos on this channel including this one are viewer suggested so if you have a video idea i hope you'll take time to leave a comment thanks so much for watching please take care and look forward to next time
