i'm gonna go get some cantaloupes i think it might be what i break the fast with i don't know wait you can't eat for another like two hours though hour and a half one hour in that case i'm ready i'm gonna eat the candle up in front of you then no i don't actually we have to figure out what we're doing for lunch but i'm going to go buy some cannabis [Applause] [Music] i swear to god i swear to god that guy is zach whitmore's twin dude i just bought the melons from is that why you took so long yeah i had to show him a picture of zach you don't know who zack is but they do he looked just like that i'm like he has to have a long-lost twin i love how you were holding the cantaloupes too by the way i had to open the door well we're doing it again we're going to academy we're doing the edc challenge we don't really have a name for them but we're going to academy and going to try to piece together the best carry possible at academy and i think it'll be pretty good at academy because they've got pretty much everything i know they carry wallets i know they've got knives flashlights are probably going to be kind of crappy but i think everything else is going to be pretty easy but who knows never can tell when you go into these things but just to recap we're going to be looking for a knife a watch a flashlight wallet pin keys multi-tool and just to show you what i'm carrying today just a frame of reference we have the wii banter this was the the micarta one that never came out had an issue because it's linerless so the micarta can actually warp in very humid conditions hasn't happened to me yet the wallet is my own the carry commission redeemed creations front pocket bifold the pin is a big idea design ti mini click in the od cerakote the flashlight is kind of a a bouge light for me this is the laulima it's brand new and it's brand new to me lao lima ion it's like the biggest bulkiest thing i have on me today uh what else we got the keys so i have a little keyboard junior with a jrw tough clip this is also my own these are going to come out fairly soon um what else oh my watch is the gsd 3a explorer with a nick mankey hook strap and then finally this one's a little bit of a secret but the cat's out of the bag now we have a mini champ best mdc version with green toppo because of course so that's coming out sometime but this is the first anybody's hearing of it other than me so i think they're coming out i don't know for sure but that is my carry today we have a pretty good spread here and i'm going to try to go get all of this stuff at academy get the best of everything i can get i will say i'm not going to spend a whole lot on a watch so if they have nothing but fitness watches i'm not doing that again because i'm back to wearing normal watches i'll update you guys on that later but yeah i'm not getting a booze watch or a fitness watch or anything like that because i'm not spending 800 again not gonna happen uh also i know it's not going to happen because academy doesn't have a like really high end knife selection they have a bunch of gerber and crkt stuff and different things anyway let's go to [Applause] [Music] academy [Music] i bet she will tell you would i knew this was going to be dizzying my focus and right in the rain pins we're going to see what we can find because i've been this a bunch of times now we got a true utility multi-tool i don't care much about that but the fingernail clippers on it might be pretty nice and then chum's wallet i knew that trum's wallet would be a good one uh purple and orange is a little a little bright for my taste but we're gonna grab this one just just because for now i have a few other options america if you want to go that route all right this looks like it's been ravaged there's a lot of there's a lot of empty space here but i think i'm gonna end up going with one of these the prybrid or if they have the other one they had it last time i was here right here they have a lot of empty spots so these are the multi-tools i'm gonna go with one of these not sure which one yet we'll keep both 24 and 21 so the price doesn't really matter see our kt knives they got the kershuffle two you guys know how i feel about the kershuffle i have a buck 110 i don't own a buck 110 i might i might go buck 110. i'm not lying i might do it it's probably the best bang for your buck and a knife out of all of these is probably this one the blade's still the heat treat this isn't the nice like expensive one but even with this i think it's 420 hd with the the boss heat treat that might be the knife that i get we got a little coast flashlight forty dollars what's in it that's that's not a great flashlight for 40 bucks though i mean i'm sure it's a fine flashlight but forty dollars yeah actually that one's gonna probably be it it's got magnetic recharging 180 lumen pin light three light modes i think it's 14 this is the one magellan flashlight and this wow that is a really bad finish on that knife i was gonna say what's going on with the knife satin flats guys [Music] it's pretty bad i almost went for the classic 110 but i think i decided i almost missed this but this is the 840 sprint select thing looks pretty nice it does have kind of a weird grind on it too but this one looks pretty nice it's got that same 420hc with the boss heat treat uh glassfield nylon okay so this is the academy edc the best edc i think you could put together at academy sports um some of these things are obviously variable personal choice is going to affect everything and i did not grab a watch just right off the rip i didn't grab a watch because they had the same garmin watch already had a couple of fitbits and i just didn't need to buy another one you guys a lot of the time don't care watches are very very personal choices and i personally didn't want to drop another 400 on a garmin that i already have and i didn't want a fitbit so i didn't get one but there are basically the same options that you're gonna find in most places for fitness watches they didn't have like g shocks or anything if they did i would have bought a g-shock but they didn't so let's start with the little things first we'll come to the multi-tool the flashlight and the knife in just a minute and let's knock out the the wallet very very first this is a chums wallet and let me tell you how i feel about this chum's wallet i already have one i've had this for a very very long time i bought this at rei probably six seven years ago and i carried it a lot i think it was just a really solid wallet it's something that i would take with me on like a lake day unfortunately all they had was this purple and orange they had a pink one and then they had an american flag one and i'm not one for colors i picked up this orange and purple one because i think maybe alex would use it or it's just something that i would throw in the truck or use on another day but it is the same exact wallet they do look a little different they've changed design a little bit uh looks like a cost-saving measure instead of having this little rubber patch they've got just a logo now but it's the exact same thing you've got a zippered pocket on one side a zippered pocket with a window on the other and this one actually has folds inside so you can separate stuff you could have like your id there and some cash and then you have an open pocket here that has a little split ring on it so you could attach your keys and put them down in that pocket but yeah i've seen people attach gear and stuff to these so they put like flashlight and use this like a gear organizer and you still have your wallet i could probably find a use for this honestly i think they're really good for the money 10 bucks it's really hard to be mad at this and when it comes to the keys it's same deal i think every single place i've been it comes down to a night ties product this is obviously not for climbing but this is the number three slide lock it's just your standard spring gate but it does lock closed there's this little plastic piece that slides on the gate and you can slide it up and you can open it so you can put your keys or whatever on it slide it down and it locks into place and it's not going to open on you accidentally pretty simple i think this was like four or five bucks very cheap when it comes to the keys a lot of places this is all you're going to be looking for is like a little carabiner probably something from night ties and that's all we had there so now when it comes to pins they did have several different options but they're all right in the rain variants of other things so there was the fischer space pin that little click one that i had from the rei video they have a right in the rain version of it in black and bright orange they have these which are poke pins um these don't even say poke pin on them do they yeah there we go it says fisher and polka all weather pocket pins these are like the bic version of a fisherspace pin bullet in that it has very much like a bic refill in it it does say all weather so i'm guessing these might be a little different from your standard polka pin and i'm going to check that out here in a second it looks a little different or maybe i just haven't seen them in a very long time this is the pokepin the right in the rain edition this is one that i already had same with this one and this is what i mean it being like the big version of the fischer space pin it works exactly like a fisher space pin in that it nests in the cap and you have more of a full length pin or close to a full length pin but this if you ignored all the rest looks like a big pin these look a little different they don't really look like either of these but the right and the rain ones are pressurized i imagine so that makes them a little bit more special than the standard polka pin that's why they're a little more expensive than the standard polka pin but they're all in the same when it comes down to you know size and functionality very lightweight and small and affordable i think these this two pack was 12 bucks and just throw a little mini pin from big idea design in there this gives you a good idea of what the size is like on the little polka pins next up we have the multi-tool which is the prybrid utility and i did pick up both that they had because i i've actually never had a chance to get my hands on either prybrid and you basically have a little scalpel blade and then a utility blade version i picked this one as the best because i think utility blades are a little more useful than the scalpel blades these are definitely very very very sharp and very handy but they're harder to find their little craft blades i guess is what you would call them not quite a scalpel blade but a craft blade you can find these like the craft all at walmart but these you can find almost anywhere and as you can see this is something i carry on me very very frequently i have my own version of a utility knife multi-tool i'm a huge fan of this style of knife just to show you we've got a slide lock that runs on this track g10 scales a lanyard hole wire stripper small flat driver nail puller large flat driver pry bar bottle opener cord cut notch and then your full-size utility blade and basically all the same stuff on this one just in a slightly different configuration with a number number 11 blade inside this one instead of a utility blade this one is metal of some sort say on the back here doesn't say what kind of metal i would imagine aluminum whereas this one is the g10 outer as you can see these are pretty thick and pretty bulky even the the number 11 craft blade is bigger and bulkier than the tpt slide that i carry every day but it does have more robust tools on it like a bigger pry bar i love this tool it's the one i carry every single day that's why i have my logo on it this is a much more affordable option but this one i believe was 21 22 and this one was 25. you can get a big full finger grip on this one full four finger grip on this one i don't know how to change the blade i think you just push this back let's see how that works okay yeah wow that is not exactly easy to change that blade on here this thing is massive and heavy to be completely honest it's it's definitely a more hard use tool than the the tpd slide this is big and chunky and heavy so if it came down to it for me to have a utility knife in my pocket this one would be much better like breaking down boxes and stuff but this one for opening packages and light cutting tasks because these little craft blades break so easy but um yeah man that's a that's a tough one i think i'd keep this one honestly i think these blades these utility knife blades are a little more useful than the craft blades those are the utility knife options the multi-tool that i went with obviously academy had tons of swiss army knives they had the gerber multi-tools like the suspension and maybe the center drive they had some sog multi-tools and many other multi-tools so there's no shortage of options in that regard but i wanted to get my hands on one of these gerber tools and this one's not bad i think it's really sturdy and i like the size in terms of how useful it makes it but this thing is going to be very noticeable in the pocket for sure might as well keep one of them over here because next up we were talking about a flashlight and i went with two on this one as well i cheated a little bit a second time around they're both rechargeable but this one is permanently a right angle flashlight or 90 degree light this one is a pivoting light so i think that adds a little more utility to it but let's just get them out both out and see how they how they feel how they are they look very much like like an olight style flashlight so just to compare them on paper we've got four powerful light modes on this this magnetic recharging right angle light has a magnetic recharger that looks very much like an olight charger removable steel clip adjustable head strap reflective print magnetic base water and impact resistance turbo 600 lumens for 40 seconds uh high is 240 lumens for 2 hours low is 60 lumens for 4.5 hours and strobes 600 lumens for 2 hours those are actually some pretty decent run times but the low mode being 60 lumens is kind of janky that's a really high and bright low mode so i can already tell you that i'm not going to love these lights because both of them have a really high low mode this one the high mode is 500 lumens for an hour that's pretty good 120 meter throw low mode is 150 lumens for two hours and then there's a strobe which who uses strobe nobody uses strobe this one has uh three light modes swivel light head they're both made out of aluminum and this one is charged with a micro usb cord i think they're very very similar 500 versus 600 lumens but this is what i wanted to take a look at is this uh pivoting head so it's just click on and you just click through the modes so one little function there and you can turn it from a standard flashlight to a right angle flashlight you'd like clip this to your shirt and you know shoot the light out or you could clip it to your hat like you came with other lights and you wear like a headlamp just straight on the bill of your hat which is really handy uh but that that ui is a little a little janky but this was was it 20 some bucks it's not bad this is the right angle for 24.99 this one was also 24.99 i think this one straight out of the gate might be a better deal but let's see how this one works i would imagine they have the same exact ui click to turn on cycle through your modes how do you get to the strobe [Music] this one apparently has strobe too right yeah strobe double click to get to the strobe so weird for them to have wait now it's okay so they are a little bit different in in the terms of ui but um i wouldn't say they're all that different in terms of pocketability very similar just they're both gonna stick way out of your pocket like if you put this in your pocket almost half the flashlight is sticking out of your pocket with that that really big clip that's like mid body this one is going to ride much deeper in the pocket i think this one's probably a little better for edc which is the one that i was going to pick for this and you do have a little micro usb port right there on the side i want to show you the charging on this one because it is very very similar to uh olight and you do get a little head strap that works with it too much like the uh what are the paren all oh light has several different right angle lights and they all come with like a little head strap rubber band and you just kind of stretch this over the body of the light you might want to take the clip off you can just put it on here and throw this on your head so not bad cool got some some different functionality to it but for the charger it is a little different from olight because they got this weird little prong or button that goes up in there but it is oh that magnet is very very weak but as long as it charges that does that doesn't really matter because you're not using this for sticking this to anything this one on the other hand has a magnet in the base so you can stick it to different things and use it you know at different angles this one i don't think that magnet is strong enough to hold this light up uh barely this one is definitely not as strong of a magnet in the base uh if i were to choose one for edc use it would definitely be this one this is the uh i pro tech pro i protect pro 500 rc angle okay and the one the other one is the uh i protect pro 600 rc rechargeable very inventive names really quickly i just wanted to show you just a comparison between some of these lights and show you kind of how they stack up against some of the o lights so this is the new warrior mini 2 since that one's actually kind of dated now this is the baton 3 actually so uh they're you know right kind of between sizes they're between the baton three and the warrior mini two all right we're going to finish with what i think is probably the most important thing probably what you guys care about the most this is a i think a really good budget knife i've not tried it so i'm just going on assumptions here but i think this thing is going to be pretty good for the money i do have some things that i've noted about this before i even opened up the package i noticed it at the store before i bought it pretty even this one's not as bad as the other there was another another knife i was looking at and the grind the bevel was not even whatsoever and you could just see it from you know several feet away but this thing the action on this is really good surprisingly very good and and they got rid of that big thick anvil clip that was on the the buck 110 slim this is this on bearings what is this on like white down in there but it doesn't look like it's on nylon which is not really a problem i think it's on bearings i don't know what that oh that white is grease i can see it moving so let's take a look at some specs here we have a 3 1 8 inch clip point blade and 420 hc steel with that boss heat treat the overall length nope that's the closed length uh closed length is four and three quarter eight three why am i saying quarter i can't can't say words right now the the closed length is four and three eighths inches weight is 3.2 ounces so it's fairly lightweight handle is glass filled nylon and the clip is actually a very very deep carry clip so this is the 840 sprint select and this was not a knife that was on my radar but it's i think the best knife that you could find at academy for sure from all the ones i saw it would be a toss-up between this and the buck 110 this was 50 49.99 and all of the other knives uh there were three other knives i believe that were fifty dollars and all of those other knives had eight cr13 five cr13 seven cr13 mov steel and i would take the boss heat treated 420 hc over that any day lock up is good like i said just a tiny bit of blade play not up and down just a little side to side and that pivot is probably just a hair loose but the action on this is really good for a 50 knife we have the wii knife kite fin just as a little comparison i had this down in my bag we got these vv i don't remember which cvv this was it was from the video that i did um i just picked one of the savi flippers that i had up and then just to compare this to a seven dollar knife this is the seven dollar knife from harbor freight action on this not nearly as good this is on on washers versus bearings both of these are on bearings and you can see the action is is very similar kind of drop shutty this one's not totally drop shutty this one is about the same honestly but first thing i can note and it may be something you could fix on your own the detent on this is super light and it looks to me yeah so typically especially on these these cevibes and this we knife they've got a very strong detent and that is because there is a ceramic ball to press or pressed that's a press fit into the liner this you're not going to be able to see this there's no way i can show some detail off that small but there is a tiny it's like a dent that's been pushed through maybe it's peened is the correct term on the lock bar very light detent i wonder if i can shake this open yeah that is a very look i'm not i'm not holding the flipper i'm going to hold the knife back here very light to tent i wonder if i could fix that by pushing the liner in a little bit i'm not sure if you can see this uh but this has been peened as i was saying instead of having a ceramic ball pressed into there but this is a really unique construction um yeah this is not what i typically see when i take apart a knife it honestly looks kind of cheap when you take it apart and look at the amount of grease just globbed into this thing holy crap i should just since i have it apart i should just go ahead and clean it but i'm not going to do that for time's sake i'll take it apart later and clean it again but what i'm going to try to do one is fix that blade plate but also just take a little bit of just press the liner in just a little bit and see if you can increase that pressure on the blade i don't think it's going to make too much of a difference you don't want to bend it too much you don't want to go too far but if you can increase that pressure on the blade it can increase the detent and this is true for any liner or frame lock if you just kind of bend it in a little more you can tune it a little bit and just put it back together let's see if that fixes the issue nah we're not gonna fix that uh so yeah i would have a hard time recommending this because of that issue i mean this knife can be opened just very very easily yeah i don't think it's a bad knife but it's something you should definitely be aware of so if you take away all of the duplicates that i bought just for my own personal you know testing and i just had to see if they were any good if you take all that away and look at this stuff uh it's not half bad this came out to about a hundred and thirty dollars um we've got a fifty dollar knife twenty five dollar tool and a twenty five dollar light so that gets us to a hundred while it was ten this was 12 for a two pack so we're still going to count that um so that gets us to 122 and this was five bucks so roughly a hundred and thirty dollars what you see here on the table and for that i'm not mad uh could i have gotten a swiss army knife and gotten a little more functionality out of this tool yes but one thing i personally end up doing more than using any of the other tools on a swiss army knife i end up using this right here a utility knife to break down boxes because i break down a lot of boxes and a little pry for flathead that's what i use more than just about anything so with this right here i could get by with this fairly comfortably i think i'd be okay with this the knife is probably i thought it was going to be the best thing uh the detent makes me a little bit nervous i mean it is a very light detent the action is great but the detent is feather light like i've tried to adjust it and it's still extremely light and i don't think you can fix that uh it just kind of pains me to say that you know while the heat treating the blade might be fine there are many corners cut especially when you take this thing apart you can see it that may result in injury i don't know maybe you could use this thing for years and never have an issue but uh that's just it kind of sucks a little bit but i would really hesitate to recommend it it's a tough one for me but this this is what i came out from academy with as the best edc you know knife dependent but that's it for this video guys thank you for watching i hope you enjoyed it and if you did hit that thumbs up button down below if you want to see me do another story let me know what story you'd like me to do next there's bass pro
