well hey hey guys welcome to the studio today i'm sitting at my piano not my usual starting point for these videos because i want to show you something this little tablet and that is sorry for the glare every control on my interface from levels sends eqs compressors all the way from over here on my wi-fi any adjustment i would need to make and i don't have to run to my desk to do it [Music] here's another version of it this one sits on my desk i have my main daw monitors up above it and this one touch controls touch eq anything that i might need to do to a particular channel or send including gates reverb if i should need it for monitoring that might not necessarily be tracked super helpful very easy to use very reminiscent of a raven type setup based on a touch monitor that i think cost about 250 bucks and software included with the xr18 you're hearing the xr18 right now in fact all the music you hear come out of this studio is done on the xr18 let's take a look at it here it is at sweetwater 699 16 inputs that are combination quarter or xlr all midas preamps and two additional quarter inch inputs that's how it gets the name xr18 because it's really 18 inputs six auxiliary sends all xlr in addition to the two main outs if you've been following this channel for a while you probably know a fair bit about this studio it's been in business for over 20 years i do this full-time it is in my house and i did run it commercially for years outside of my house now i'm getting a little bit older but i do still work full-time with the full roster of clients i can tell you a few things about my needs number one 18 inputs i use about 16 of them in here synthesizers microphones the vocal booth back behind me sends returns i need things hooked up to work immediately so that my workflow does not get slowed down also being able to do something like add reverb to a singer's headphones back in the booth and the reverb's not actually getting tracked but they like to monitor with some reverb done right in the xr18 also high pass filtering i know that i'm not going to use anything below about 75 hertz coming out of that vocal mic in there i set it up for that channel to behave that way i can have different eqs noise gates compression schemes set up for every single input on this thing plus four overall effects which include things like boutique eqs and boutique reverbs and chorusing or delays or anything that i want and i can either just monitor that or i can actually have it tracked with any of those effects on quite the time saver how about the audio quality today's interfaces far surpass gear that great stuff was recorded on through the 60s 70s 80s even a fairly inexpensive interface will far outperform that the preamps do play into it this particular interface uses midas designed preamps midas famous for consoles and and great preamps behringer acquired them back in 2012 i believe along with clark technic brought their expertise into the fold and has been using their technology ever since let's get a listen to some of the quality that we captured here uh this is one of my artists her name is kenzie tear me down with words that you don't mean and never knew that they were true shatter pieces of a mirror on the floor you never would have seen until you opened the door here's that same clip i've removed i think all the midi instruments including the drums and everything i want you to hear what was actually recorded electric guitars acoustic guitars bass with that vocal [Music] [Applause] [Music] the bottom line guys if you've watched this channel for a while you know two things about me one i do this for a living i've been a producer for 20 years this is my only job i have a full roster and a full clientele the other thing that you know about me is this i hate spending money on anything that my clients can't hear the difference or i can't hear the difference you can go on youtube and check out some a b comparisons between this interface and that interface and this interface the xr18 has been shot out against the midas mr18 which is built on the same production line it costs to roughly double the price there's other big famous interfaces out there the ua apollo the audient which my buddy's studio runs an audience we have a bead those and i will be honest i can hear the difference between an audient interface and my xr18 while it is being a bead but if i were to walk out of the room and then walk back into the room and my buddy said okay which one is this i couldn't tell you it's only when i hear them switching back and forth i hear that is maybe about a one percent difference let me leave you with this when i was buying interfaces for the studio when i was switching from old vs 2480 recorders and originally from analog tape when i was coming into daw based recording my first interface was a little behringer umc 404 that had midas preamps on it i got very used to the sound and the capabilities even though it only had four inputs on it when i wanted more inputs and when i wanted the ability to do processing in the interface like eq gate compression and additional effects like reverb and delay like we talked about the xr18 was the best game in town for the money and you will hear of some hatred for behringer out there in the world i used to be one of those guys behringer had a terrible reputation they completely deserved it high failure rate almost no customer service that was a long time ago that was over 10 years ago at this point they are really cutting edge in terms of quality in terms of customer support the music tribe which includes behringer midas clark technic this is all very very serious stuff they're buying back the market means they're undercutting the prices of their competitors and offering you something better for your money above the xr18 look into the x-32 around for a while total badass you need something really pro pro pro beyond what i'm running here check out the wing with 40 inputs on it these are good interfaces and all the way down to the lowly umc 22 which has one midas preamp on it and and also a guitar input on it as well the real quality stuff with the azio drivers starts with the umc 202 worth checking out thank you guys for coming out we got work to do let's get to it [Music]
