hey guys drew Brasch there dbb audio today i am here with another a Behringer exeter two effects tutorial for you now today we're going to be talking about the sound max ur which is an emulation of the sonic Maximizer by BBE now this one specifically is the 482 I is what the emulation is of now the effect when you insert it on a channel it does put a point six seven millisecond delay in that one channel now the original sonic Maximizer the 482 I is basically a sound enhancer and the original theory behind the BBE sonic Maximizer is that in a speaker the low-end woofer is actually placed in front of the tweeter which produces the high end so that when both produce sound the low-end woofer hits your ear before the high-end tweeter does now they claim that the sonic Maximizer basically delays the low-end and puts it back in time with the high end unfortunately it doesn't really work that way and the original sonic maximize air and the sound Mac's are both delay the high-end more so than the low end frequencies so it doesn't really make sense however it is good for bringing in a nice a little bit of low-end and it is great for bringing in a little bit of high-end into a mix just as a final polishing product I am going to show you guys how we can insert it on the left/right bus to bring in a little bit of high-end and a little bit of low-end if you want to use it that way but more so specifically I would probably be using this on say a keyboard if we were wanting to bring in a little bit of high high-end brightness into it or the acoustic guitar if we have a really thin sounding acoustic you can bring it in and use the low portion of the effect to bring in a little bit more low end into the acoustic guitar so let's go ahead and hop into this and see how we can use this so the first thing that we're going to do is we're going to go ahead and hit the effects button and that's going to bring up our effects rack now I do have effects rack seven here empty and we're going to go ahead and insert this on the Left right bus now it typically wouldn't be ending up doing this but it's one way that you can kind of polish your mix a little so first thing that we're going to do is use our select knob that go all the way over to seven and we are going to use our fifth rotary knob to go select sound Mack sir so let's go ahead and rotate this once you have it it sound Mack sir you'll want to depress this to actually set that now I want you to insert this on my left right bus so I'm going to go over to the first two knobs and I'm just going to use one of them and I'm going to rotate this until I find left-right I'm going to select that once I have this set I actually need to insert it now with the left/right bus you only need to press one of the insert knobs and it will actually insert both the left and the right at the same time now if I'm going to insert this on an individual channel pressing this will only insert it on that one channel so for instance here on FX racks six I have six and eight as my inserts and I can insert it on six but it won't automatically insert on eight so I actually have to press insert buttons on that let's go ahead and jump back into effects tracks seven and we'll actually see how this thing works so we have a low contour a process and a gain a low contour process and gain basically the first three knobs are a which is left the last three knobs are B which is right so the low contour is going to be about a 60 Hertz shelf EQ boost basically boosting all of the low end and the process is going to be a high-end shelf about six K and so if we take this all the way up to positive 10 this will actually boost 15 decibels on the low end and if we take this all the way up to positive 10 does the same thing boosts the high end by 15 decibels now check out my blog post that I have as I have done smart measurements on this and you can see the way the filter looks and the amplitude that it actually has so I'm going to go ahead and start some music here and we can actually hear this thing going note before I get too far we can process the left side independently from the right side so I can go in boost the low-end on the left and boost the high end on the right independently and these two channels will work independently so if you're wanting something to sound cohesive in the stereo realm make sure that you're applying the same settings to the right side as you do the left so let's go ahead and get some music in here alright so I'm just going to go a little bit on this here with kind of polishing a stereo mix so a it goes a long way believe it or not on this and so I'm going to boost the low end a little bit and then let's bring in some height now I'm just going to go ahead and deactivate the sink in here now again with the active button you can activate just the left or just the right if you want to and if you do happen to have different processing on the left and right side you can actually change the way the scary around feels so basically this only boosts so if you're wanting to polish your mix this only boosts now if you did boost the high and the low and then brought the gain down that would be doing a mid cut and you can check out the way the filters look on blog post so that is how you would bring in a little bit of highs and a little bit of lows with the sound Mack sir now let's go ahead and input this on my keyboard to kind of polish up and bring it a little bit more high-end on the keyboard so I'm actually just going to bring in the keys and not have any of the rest of the band going here and we are going to hop over to effects 6 and we have my keyboard here on channel 6 right here so we're have to go back to the home and insert this so let's go all the way back to home and go up 1 and I'm going to insert both of them for now and go back to effect so as we can see they're not active currently um but I'm going to play the music here so this keyboard sounds a little bit dull and just kind of boring so if we go ahead and activate this doesn't really make any difference but when we bring this process up it's in essence bringing in a lot more high-end on this so let's go ahead and listen to this and it sits better with the mix too now the next thing that I want to show you guys is the acoustic guitar so this acoustic sounds really thin this would be typical like a taylor guitar if you are on it to sound more like a martin or a bigger body of guitar you can go ahead and use the sound max ur and boost the low contour up quite a bit to be able to bring in a lot more low-end so let's go ahead and hear that let's restart the music here you so let's go ahead and bring the rescue instruments back in here so that's what nothing active and we want to have a little bit more fun here so so those are three different ways that you can use the sound Mac sir to be able to kind of polish your mix a little bit more and do just some more fun with the effects rack if you're not currently utilizing it now we can replicate the same type of sound by using the EQ and I'd probably be starting in the EQ of the channel before I'd be inserting this effect and tying up one of my effects rack for some other effects that you can't really replicate too easily so if you have any questions feel free to post below also go check out my blog post that I have on this I did some smart measurements and actually show the way that the filters look you can check that out at DBB audio comm the other thing to do is make sure you subscribe to the channel down below you can make sure that you're up to date with the most recent videos that i'm producing with the x32 and some new stuff coming out with the ex-air soon so thank you so much
