I remember back when Usyk went undisputed and won the Muhammad Ali trophy, a dude in my gym straight up said “I can see Usyk beating AJ if he decides to move to heavyweight .” The head coach at our gym said “You’re smoking crack if you believe that.” Think about how right that dude was.

It’s really interesting how much that victory over AJ has positioned Usyk to immortalize himself. If he went up and lost he’d rightly be considered one of the greatest cruisers ever but he probably would be relegated to boxing hipster discussions.

But now, if he keeps winning at heavyweight, which he’s very capable of, he’s got a chance to solidify himself as the best of a generation and one of the best to ever do it.

I don’t think he has the time or the opposition to seriously make a run at GOAT status, but he’ll be in that atmosphere if he unifies or even becomes undisputed at heavyweight. Whatever happens, I’m really glad to get to watch him do his thing and witness potential boxing history in the making.
