good morning it's it's Sunday morning and it's real early but I'm going to make a beef stew I probably won't put this on until um as far as showing y'all until Monday or Tuesday uh we just have to look and see how things go but I wanted to beef stew this morning so I got this sirloin tip roast right here uh it was 450 not a pound and um it was twelve dollars at 76 cents so what I'm gonna do I like to cut up my own Steve beef and I just you know just buy the roasted start cutting it up and the reason I don't have anything on is because of it being so early I want to go ahead and get my meat going and get my broth good because if you don't do your broth real good then it's uh your meat will be tough so what I do is I always put my meat on first and y'all can see how I just cut it long skinnies right now and then after a while um after it Cooks a long time it gets good and tender my broth gets real Rich I'm gonna put other things in it okay and I'm gonna get back with y'all if we're gonna put that in it too all right so what I'm doing is just cutting these strips you want to leave all the fat on this because that fat is what makes that broth good so you want to get a piece of meat that has fat on it don't just get all lean it's just fat in there because that's where your flavor is your flavor is in the fat anyway I've got to get dressed for a church and so I thought I'm gonna go ahead and put my meat on and while my meat is cooking I'm gonna go back there and try to fix his face take a quick shower and um get myself ready for the day already got my teammate I've got everything bought and so all right so I've got into long skinnies like that so all I'm going to do now is come back and cut some little uh cubed things off of it like that and I'll be done and that's how you make stew beef you don't have to buy it I noticed yesterday when I was buying this roast that it was a lot higher per pound if you got the um one already cut up so I thought well hey I know how to cut up Stevie I know how to do that that's all you do like this okay you can't beat that with a whole handle Kenny oh my goodness I I posted this morning um I'm gonna cut that one kind of this way too because it's a little wide I posted this morning about the um egg I don't know what we're doing oh the cranberry beans I had posted that and I was reading some of the comments in there and and some of y'all in other places especially in Texas had the cranberry beans and I was excited to see that they did then somebody in um Africa wrote in and said they also eat them and and something else it was real interesting if you want to go back to that post yesterday I did it um it was um about the cranberry beans is that um they're called different things and a lot of those people that wrote in told me what they call them and I mean it was some a lot of stuff y'all a lot of stuff well anyway I'm gonna get this meat cut up I'm I'm gonna put put it in my water I'm gonna add a little salt and pepper and then I'm just gonna let it cook while I go back there and get myself dressed and my shower and that kind of thing at after I get all my meat in I'm going to turn it down you know a little bit uh maybe to medium low or something like that I'm gonna put a top on it and if I need to add more water later I will but make sure you leave all that good fat on there all right this is going to be a beef stew for today I hope I don't have more than this puddle hole you know a lot of times I get in here cooking and um I had to change my pot y'all ever do that yeah but I'm gonna I'm gonna fix his face this morning you know when you get old like me you don't have any color I don't I have to add some color to my face a little pattern paint never heard any old barn did it no it didn't see how marbled this meat is with fat and that's a good thing when we have steak which is rare nowadays um maybe a special occasion Hannah loves the fat on the steak that's that's her favorite part the fat and I do too it's got It's just so good all right so we're just about through with our meat and I'm gonna go fix my face and when you see me again uh maybe I look a little bit better it's just that I had to get this on really early it's uh just a little bit past six in the morning and I want this to have plenty of time to be to cook because that's where all your flavors come out you know so here we go and I'm gonna add my salt and pepper I'm gonna put a top on it and that didn't take long did it that's some pretty meat that's a pretty meat see there all right I bet I'm gonna have to change pots I can look at that already and tell this is mighty full but it'll be fine to cook my meat in it and then I'll change pots later when I start adding all my veggies and stuff I'm gonna add just a little bit of that all right talk to y'all in a little bit let me go get dressed okay y'all our meat has been cooking uh for about an hour and it's getting tender and the juice is getting dark and I'm gonna put in two cans I don't know if that'll be enough but that's where I'm gonna start off uh your petite diced tomatoes and I got the 28 ounce can it's uh a little bigger than a normal can okay it's a little bigger than a normal cab but I'm gonna put two of these in so that goes in next and yes I did have to change the pots I did well I knew that I probably would have to all right we're gonna put that in all right the next thing that goes in it's going to be um our carrots because carrots take longer to cook so I got some huge ones a big old bag full of them I won't put all these in there I'm just gonna eat those I like to eat them I like the dip them in ranch and eat them like that and so um I had out my carrot scraper here it is and so um I'm gonna just I'm gonna um scrape these and try to y'all peel it a little bit and some of y'all don't do that that's okay yeah however you want to do it but I do and so then um I'm gonna cut them in circles and put them in there so this is the next thing that goes in then I'm gonna put in my onions right after this then I'm gonna peel a few potatoes and when you want to know how many potatoes to fill up pill I usually kind of look as I go along uh to see you know I just do that um but anyway I went back there and I got ready for church and now I'm having to spin it up a little bit so thank you that's what I'm gonna do all right we know we want at least you know six or seven of these things in there to go with that roast and then I'll just put the others in the refrigerator you'll do something with them you know we can't I don't think we can I don't think we can grow carrots in the South I I don't know any Gardener around Andalusia Alabama and that's where I'm from it grows carrots there may be some but I've never heard of them I don't know if they're not friends of mine so I don't really know that's kind of a tiny one right there what I'm gonna do is uh you don't worry about how big the carrots are you worry about how thick you're cutting them as long as you cut them all the same thickness they're gonna they're gonna cook alike all right that's um this will make seven right here it looks like a pretty good little bit I'll see what I'll do is cut them up and put them in there and stir it around and look see how it looks okay you know I thought about uh today while I was back there getting dressed if uh you know I had some of those leftover cranberry beans so if I have some leftover they spew tomorrow which I probably will that big pot um I may just put my cranberry beans in there too give that a little new flavor create me a new dish or something I'm gonna cut these up in circuits right ready throw them in the pot with the tomatoes won't we y'all come over here with me let's get our let's get out our other lights so y'all can see turn that off it put Shadows on everything we'll turn this one on and get y'all over here close or you can see what's going on here let's see what we got there there well there we go all right now then cut our cut our carrots up I'm scooting around in here I still got all my bedroom shoes I hadn't put on my Sundays yet I usually don't do that until I walk out the door is that what y'all do I put on my Sunny shoes when I walk out the door there we go nice all right so all I do is this I just chop the ends of them off like that and then I just go okay drop the ends off of that one it doesn't take very long uh I have put those what they call that little baby carrot you know the ones they've already done up but there I don't like them like that I like them in circles and it's something how we get used to certain things that we want it that way yeah all right we're just about through see that didn't take long at all and then I'm gonna get my onion out and get one real big one if I'd find it over there if not I'll use two smaller ones and then we're gonna put our onion in and the light and when these carrots get kind of semi-tender that's what I'm going to add my potatoes if you add your potatoes too early they'll tear up in there they're so tender that they just want to tear up foreign just a little bit to put them in and then I'm done all right here's our last one I feel like I'm cutting them I don't know that's the Bugs Bunny carrot did it that's a big one let me do like this I feel like I'm cutting a sweet potato they're so big hope that'll fit in our mouth today okay there we go we got our carrots done I'm gonna put those in and then uh we're going to uh we're gonna put our carrots in there and we are as George would say we're cooking with gas this morning we don't even cool gas but he always said it his mama cooked with gas so I guess that's why he always said it maybe they said it in his house I don't know I didn't grow up with it if I had I probably wouldn't have married him somehow I have some friends that and they were they actually were babies together and uh I'm gonna stirring this up it's not boiling anymore because I put all that tomatoes and carrots in there it's coming to about right there right now y'all that's where it's coming to I did have to change parts and I knew that I would I knew I would so let me go get a carrot I meant to say let me go get an onion here's the onion I'm gonna put in it I found a big one so we're going to use it we're gonna do our best to cut we're ever getting started then we're good boy that was a toughie knife here and here it is all right you want to cut these up and kind of in little cubes uh so it won't take but a minute the reason I don't cry when I'm cutting up an onion is I have on contacts and that keeps that gas I guess you'd say out of your um eyeball I cut it in half like that turn it to its side like this cut you some squares use that other finger to hold it down these don't have to be tiny tiny just just the little squares will be fine then turn it this way and cut it and then it'll be in squares you don't have to do that little side cut and all that stuff if you cut it like this it does itself I see people do that on these cooking shows and I'm thinking why don't y'all do it this other way it'd be much easier because those are in squares now and they're in little squares like I wanted them see how they just fall apart that little thing they just fall apart because they're in that's how they are all right let's put those in and then we're gonna cut out the other half of onion and then we'll be doing our onions I will like then is salt and pepper and uh tell us okay I've got a little bit of celery in the refrigerator that I could put in it I don't generally put celery in mine some people do and it's good or you could put other things in there if you want to you know you know what it's got their way of cooking and their way of um doing things and that's why I think this is such a good time to be together is because I'm learning from you what some things that you put in your foods and you're learning from me and together we're working together to fix a good meal for our family or for us if it's just if you're like me I have to fix a good meal for me I can't live off of sandwiches all my life and I sure don't want any just get a TV dinner or something like that my word I want some home cooking you know sometimes all I do is uh that little outside of that onion is kind of tough I don't want it sometimes all I do is just steam me a cabbage and have cornbread and onion that's what I have I'm gonna have to get that out it's in there it's a let's see what we got here he put that musty there it is let me get that off of there we go let me cut it up and then I'll do the other part I remember when TV dinners came out my mama um sheep she bought one for our family and you know she was a really great home cook I mean but if she could put on a spread she could cook and we couldn't wait to get home from school every day just to see what we were going to have that night but anyway she bought some TV dinners one time and served it one time that's all we we could handle but for those of you who are having some problems I can see where it's nice to have uh something already prepared for you because you don't feel like doing and I understand that this one's harder to cut because it had that little brown part in there whatever that was anyway I go to Bethany Baptist Church in Andalusia so if y'all want to tune in any Sunday and watch with me worship with me um you go to Bethany Andalusia Destiny Andalusia and when you go there we'll be singing and preaching and worshiping and loving and all that kind of stuff y'all to be with us if you can't get out or if you can't find a church you've looked and you hadn't been comfortable yet with wherever you're going to join us but I was the hope that you could find you one see if you can find you a good church yeah this big old onion in here is going to give it flavor Galore this is a sweet onion I forgot what kind I've got somebody told me the other day of a new onion and it's real big like this one and uh I came for the life of me saying now what the name of it was had a funny name to it uh I don't remember I don't remember but anyway y'all come back a little bit and we'll peel some potatoes all right all right we're gonna cut us up a new a few potatoes and what I've got right here um this potato bag potato bag um these are just uh rusted potatoes you could use any kind of potatoes you want to as long as it's not sweet potatoes you'd use some kind of golden potato with a little red potatoes weren't really good in it or whichever kind you want but this is the kind I've got today so I'm gonna use it my granddaddy made that basket he was my step granddaddy uh real special uh granddaddy he had a lot of Indian blood in him and he knew how to make beautiful baskets and um he married my grandmother after um well my my real granddaddy was killed um he worked in a construction yard they were building some big something and the guy that was operating the crane accidentally pulled the wrong lever and it dropped whatever he had in his crane on my granddaddy my mother was six years old she remembers it so well and uh or remembers the occasion so well that's all she remembers though she said she remembered them coming to the school to get her out of school after the accident happened and so anyway um I will do well I think I'm gonna do six maybe seven that's uh two four six and seven we'll see how that looks like a pretty good little bit so I'm just going to uh peel these real quickly wash them and um yes you can use a carrot scraper if you'd like to I just don't want to do that but you can whatever works for you okay this nice and sharp sharp is a razor blade so I don't have a problem using it and get me a bowl over here let me do that do I do anything else let me get me a little bowl to put them in [Music] there on those dishes I'm I'm washing dishes and drying dishes and cutting potatoes I can't wait to show y'all something else that I've learned um recently I wanted a sweet potato it was just me here I was just gonna have a sweet potato for lunch that's all I was gonna have well um I usually grease my sweet potatoes and cook a bunch of them at a time in the oven so I thought you know I it's just me and I really don't want a bunch of leftover sweet potatoes so here's what I do I cut it down the middle cut it down the middle one more time and then just get my pan over here let me put it right here where you can see and I just cut like this and I've got cubes it's real easy see that's how I did it but anyway so um I um washed my sweet potato then I took a dish towel I wet it really good and then I squeezed it out semi put wrapped the potato in the wet dish towel put it on a plate and put it in my microwave and I think a card on the size of the potato I cooked mine six minutes and did a skewer in it and did it one more minute and it was delicious and I ate it right there it was piping hot but I can tell you this that uh that towel was hot too you know because it was wet hot it was like it uh and I thought gosh that'd be good to if you ever needed something hot you could just wet a towel in the microwave and put it on whatever was hurting use it like a something and anyway that's what I'm doing this morning after I put the potatoes in there's nothing left to do but taste that's it and then uh we'll have our Sunday lunch I am going to fix a little pan of bread cornbread to go with it and I'm just going to fix the regular kind the white lily uh self-rising cornmeal buttermilk and an egg that's all that's all I'm gonna put in it that's all I ever put in it unless I'm making egg bread then I put a bunch of eggs in it I do that it's Thanksgiving we'll be long will it yeah it won't be all right well let me turn this off it's going to be too long as it is I'll see y'all in a little bit all right y'all our stew is cooking it's won't be long till it's ready I'm fixed to make some cornbread I'm just going to get me some solid grease and put in here uh you can use bacon grease olive oil whatever you want but grease your cornbread Skillet real good and remember you can't fry things in your cornbread Skillet I found a little bit of stuff in the bottom of mine I'm thinking did I fry something in that so I'll go down there to make cornmeal mix and I am going to get this I'll just prop it up there for you to see it while I'm busy because I'm in a hurry I'm gonna get about uh a cup and a half a cornmeal that's about a cup and a half to four mil white lily cornmeal self-rising I hadn't got much buttermilk so I hope I have enough if I don't I can just add a little water to it uh if I don't have enough and put in one egg and that's all that's it y'all that is it it is easy as pie to make cornbread I have got my oven set on 400 degrees and you just want to get a consistency if you didn't want this much just put in a little bit of your um cornmeal mix all right that looks about right so you just have to kind of Judge it it's no use measuring that takes all the fun out of cooking if you want to put a teaspoon of sugar in there you can some people do I'm not but you can if you want to put it in your Skillet get every little drop out I can't remember who gave me that spoon but I'm telling you what it surely does work good y'all and also I got a brand new basket yesterday I'm so excited about that was sent to me from the Amish Country up an hour thank you all so much I'll show it to you one day when I got a little extra minute all right here we go I'm popping it in the oven on 400 degrees and how long do you let it cook until it Browns up and swells up and it's ready and y'all why the cornbread's cooking I want to show you my table got it set um with my everyday dishes these were some napkins that were given to me not this time not the ones this week but some another time and then I bought this uh tablecloth right here isn't it pretty that's this is like the 19 I don't know 40s 50s look at all that work that Summit little embroidery it's so pretty to me I love it these were given to me they matched my all my dishes and stuff my fiesta wear and I just cut these while ago I'm going to root them and so I thought well heck I'll cut them they're off of my potty plant and I am going to root these well that was trying to fall off in it no it's not it's still attached is still attached this uh what they do what I did is I cut off the bottom leaves of it see where those little nodes are right there those little spots right there that's a node that's where the roots will come out there and some will come out on the end and I'll put them in a pot and give them to somebody there we go but that'll be pretty for today won't they yeah and guess what it started raining Lord our cornbread's in the oven so this is Sunday and look it's already raining outside dripping off the house hitting everything this is a time that a lot of people they won't come to church today because it's raining and I can't complain there's times I don't go to we all have our days don't we all right here we go let's go back in here and we'll wait on her cornbread it doesn't like too much longer I don't think okay sweet people our cornbread is ready the one that you made all by yourself this is how it looks when I took it out okay so it's brown a little bit on the top and here's hoping it didn't stick foreign a little bit and the reason it did is I fried something in my cornbread skillet look where it stuck I fixed to get it out and see if I take Patch it up I won't have a patched anything up before let's patch it up so nobody don't know what a mess I made [Music] there we go don't be frying stuff in your cornbread skillet y'all if you do you have messed up but you a knife under it like granny does George's Mama put your knife under it so it won't sweat on the plate let a little heat out and this will go with our beef stew or you can have crackers but I like cornbread with mine all right and see how easy that was that is nothing to it so get you some white lily and get busy darling love y'all have a great great day happy happy Sunday but I'm showing it on Monday or Tuesday Baba
