Beauty of the Abandoned | Oregon Coast | Destination Adventure

for pretty much the entire lifespan of the youtube channel so far it's been an ongoing kind of joke and tradition that i travel on the no plan plan i love the no plan plan my parents on the other hand they're not such a fan but it worked good this this summer when i was heading north because there's really only one or two different routes to get there heading south now it's a totally different story i'm going through two different countries there's a lot of routes to get there and i want to pick a route that is going to be nice and enjoyable for myself as well as hopefully enjoyable and new for you guys so i'm gonna take highway 101 down the oregon coast and i wanted to show you on the maps here but i only have a map that does washington and then the top corner of oregon then my next map is the bottom corner of oregon and then california i'm missing the whole piece in between which is where we are right now so we're just gonna get right into it let's whip it ever since i was a kid all i wanted to be was an explorer sail the seven seas find new worlds but uncle d everything's already been found what like everything well yeah oh man well so much for that but if i can't be an explorer i can still be an adventurer so i bought a motorhome and i'm hitting the open road my name is dustin porter and this is destination adventure as you guys know unfortunately we had to miss the first half of highway 101 because of all the flooding and washouts we're finally just getting back to the coast and i have missed the ocean this is lincoln city we're coastal baby [Music] quite certain i'm not allowed to stop here since i'm taking up 138 spots but we're in depot bay and it's amazing let's check things out this little oceanside towns they're all very similar but deep obey for whatever reason is always stuck in my mind one of my favorite ones i think it's the coldest hand the run down this land where the ocean lands it's the tallest sound the damn smallest crowd [Music] but the heart sprays loud thoroughly enjoying this little town but i gotta get out of here before i get a parking ticket i sat down by the ocean is that tears that i feel fill up with emotions could i taste them for real longing for you lying [Music] let me tell you guys it's difficult to get very far in a day when the sun goes down so early i'm staying in newport tonight but they have a crabbing dock it's a little bit of a jaunt from where i parked the motorhome so i'm not going to bring the full big pot going old school remember this thing can't wait i got chicken for bait and people are always angry in the comments when i'm using chicken because they say you can just eat that chicken but first of all crab is like 10 000 times better and these little coastal towns they often have almost expired chicken for super cheap so i just bought like two flats of chicken for less than ten dollars so it's definitely the way to go switching spots the tide is crazy here i don't know if i'll be able to do it with this little paw here we go you know what we're on bottom tell you a little something about crabbing crabbin's all about patience i'm about to make a crab my first patient for the cook pot okay may have come out with a little bit too much confidence on that one they say that crabs are like the dogs of the sea they really pick up on your energy it's important to have a beer while you're grabbing softens the nerves putting out only good vibes we have crabs in the pot nine times out of nine oh man never crabbed like this before but instead of tying it to a dock just gonna turf it out there probably give it just one sit but uh it's worth a try see that they call that a bird's nest except for a bird can live in its nest and this makes me want to freak i grabbed that last spot for about an hour after dark and i was getting consistent red rock crab here in oregon you can keep any size either either gender for red rocks so i kept five males and that'll be a really nice dinner for tonight and then i think push on to florence in the morning [Music] in this dark night it's too hard for me to say now if the rays of hope will shine again someday the weather it's a little bit nasty today windy and rainy but there is a beautiful beach here i have to go check it out it's just too dark to tell once the stars guided me to god's shores now once the devil sent me drifting once more will these clouds ever live i've missed being at the ocean it's awfully turbulent here though [Music] if these green night blues would lighten up if my nature you know it's crazy i think probably floated all the way here from japan a piece of wood right there crazy thing not gonna float in here all the way japan look at this floaty and it's crazy about that floaty could have floated here all the way from like japan or something this thing has a tag though i've never seen him with a tag i'm going to bring it up so i can throw it in but it has a ship name on it so i'm gonna look it up and just see where it came from i would tell you of his grace and how it was i felt but some tales are just too dark to tell [Music] there's a staircase over there wow so pretty cool traveling in the off season there is nobody here we're gonna go check out the splash zone dude oh yeah okay that's as close as we're getting almost got me all the way from here there's two ducks sitting out there right in where it's super turbulent i wonder what they're looking for out there this point right out here been watching that one and the way the water comes in it hits and then splashes straight up i need at least a little bit of a splash while i'm here it wasn't supposed to happen like that i sat back and i watched that spot for 20 minutes i watched this whole area here to find the one spot that sprays up instead of in and that was supposed to be it let's go find something dry here we go fresh new duds let's whip it [Music] look at this freaking corner there wasn't traffic totally drifted [Music] just rolled into florence this is where i've spent the most amount of time on the oregon coast so i'm quite familiar with the little town here first things first we're gonna go put in the crab pot i'm gonna put my big trap in just off the dock today and leave it for next few hours hopefully a nice dungeness feast tonight sure hope there's somewhere to turn around down here just check the tide charts and tide's coming in for another two and a half hours so missed the first half of it but the second half should be better anyways ran into town grab some supplies so the pot's been in the water for a couple hours now tides all the way in should be high slack right now fingers crossed for some crabs oh jesus that didn't work at all i'm hoping nobody poached my crabs because i see i'm the last one here well this guy over there clamming he's got some pots in here but everyone that was sitting here is gone and that's pretty common thing to happen not very heavy it happened i got my crabs got poached because when i put it back in before going to town it had more crabs than when i just pulled it out but got one keeper anyways let me tell you guys the world is full of good people there's a gentleman just came out here he's the last guy on the dock with pots and he got two keepers he said it wasn't enough for him and his wife so i got dinner tonight i'm gonna pull this up and mosey out of here almost had four keepers this is one quarter of an inch too small a bit of a squall blue in here and the cage is like a thousand pounds full of keeper dungees [Music] look at this place it's still here [Applause] no idea what this place was but i can tell you it has not changed since we were kids whoa it's big it's possible i will find somebody living here beautiful area though so i guess this probably would have had a big dock out here burnt all the way maybe a fish packing plant or something not sure a lot of this garbage here might be from kids coming out here and partying last all around town and nobody even seems to know that this thing's out here so [Applause] [Applause] man this place has been trashed but this great big building here i don't know if somebody doesn't buy this and just offer out covered storage boats rvs whatever all you have to do is clean it put a new roof on other than that framework's totally fine just a thought occasionally on the channel i get to feature a location that was at one point in time abandoned and then gone through some sort of restoration or retrofit to become something else i'd like to show you all the work that's gone into this location to make it a livable residence it's pretty impressive we're gonna start over here in the corner where they have the kitchen slash pantry section pretty nice then we come around to what i would only assume is the living room where you have all your pre-rolled joints right here and then the chair so you can just zone right out at the real life nature show beautiful rock fireplace right here in the middle of the living room that's maybe my favorite feature got some decorations hanging down here look almost indian in nature if we migrate over here this is where the sophistication really comes out we have the library and it's right beside the bedroom now i don't know if this is a double or maybe two singles but ample room for you and company if the occasion arises right here in the center we have the puzzle station not sure what's happened to the legs on the table but all in all pretty bang-up retrofit i'm impressed [Applause] oh my god there's a train bridge over here with a house on top of it unless there's some sort of crazy optical illusion happening we gotta go check this out so that's all that's left of the dock i'm guessing fire because these pilings all that's left here is just kind of stubs at the high tide line and if we come over here you can see a couple more buildings over there and then pilings all the way over so i wonder if maybe the dock went all the way over there and those are part of the same facility not sure but one thing i am sure about we gotta go check out that bridge top house it's not even an optical illusion i can hardly believe it [Applause] look at that thing up there i'm guessing what that actually is it's a control room for the bridge because this bridge looks like it would spin right there in the middle for when big ships are coming through i'm assuming that's what that is let me grab a better camera for you [Music] so [Music] there you have it folks that is a house on a train bridge hope you guys
