really exciting day today i'm going on an adventure with grandpa and ever since i got here to oregon i keep seeing comments down below of people asking to meet him so before we head out he's just over in the shop right now i'm gonna go over and interview him quickly before we hit the road i only have one lav mic so i'm going to put it on grandpa so my audio won't be great in the interview but it should be really fun let's head over there pretty serious questions here oh i know i'm going to need serious answers i don't know whether i can handle serious questions we're gonna just give it a try okay what's it like being in your 70s but having the mindset of a teenager oh it's really easy yeah yeah it's really easy okay yeah it um you know i just never grew up [Music] well you know you just have to stay in in the zone because you've got tons of grandkids coming up and in wanting to enjoy life with you and you got to make sure you enjoy as much of the life as you can with them so if you get past a certain age then they kind of shuffle you off to buffalo but that doesn't happen here so now you know yeah 70 going on 17 is not a problem perfect [Music] so keep in mind my parents both watch the youtube channel do you think it's safe to say i inherited most of my awesomeness from you oh absolutely you know that's evidence you know every time people watch your video if they only knew where it all came from it it skipped a generation and went right to you i do appreciate that sorry mom oh here's actually a little bit more of a serious question so i consider you very much a successful man but personally i don't know how to define success how do you define success um i think i have to define success as uh happiness in your heart you know if if you're happy inside and you let it out and you're kind and good to other people you're successful okay great answer so i tr i stay very focused in trying to find a way to stay happy every single day of my life and i think i am that way because growing up on the coast with you that's just what i learned you learn just to be happy it's actually should be the easiest thing in the world what's the key to happiness um there's no key to it it just happens if you've decided that that's the way you want to be you make every day be happy and so you know you turn the key when you get on and get up in the morning and that turns the happiness engine on and when you make keep keep it going all day as my superior somebody that i've always looked up to do you feel more intimidated or jealous with my beard sometimes get a little stubble on there and then i think oh man i'm losing my 17 and i'm getting to look more like 70. so i make sure that it comes off so that i keep staying in that younger zone but there's no intimidation of any any kind you know well i'm i'm kind of proud of the fact that you're showing some great and that's from you yeah well i passed it on you know there's people in the comments that comment about my great really yeah they like it well i hope so or they say that i should dye it diet no way no no no no you don't want to diet no so i really only have one more question for you that's it one just one okay i can handle it if you got to live forever what is one thing that you could do every single day that you would never get tired of that's a tough question you know because i do like to do a lot of different things i would have to say it would be to share a hug with somebody it doesn't doesn't matter because i love having hugs and so if i could get up every day for the rest of my life forever and share a hug with somebody the every day would be good well you're ready for a hug and then it'd be i'm ready let's get it okay here we are [Music] ever since i was a kid all i wanted to be was an explorer sail the seven seas find new worlds but uncle d everything's already been found what like everything well yeah oh man well so much for that but if i can't be an explorer i can still be an adventurer so i bought a motorhome and i'm hitting the open road my name is dustin porter and this is destination adventure [Music] if you've been watching the channel for a while we have seen a lot together we've climbed the kokanee glacier to hunt for kokanee beers found abandoned masonic artifacts that hadn't been seen for years spent time in the alpine where landscapes are vast we've boated on lakes with water like glass we've caught exotic fish eaten like kings and been stranded at sea explored ghost cities and ghost towns and taken every opportunity to get our feet off the ground we've seen our fair share of angry mother nature ran from wildfires and floods all in the spirit of adventure since kovid i'm finally exploring a new country and this adventure this one surprised me today we're exploring the abandoned multi-million dollar resort of canida [Music] it's about a two and a half hour drive from my grandfather's place in newburgh but the drive is amazing we got a glimpse of the city passing through portland got a taste of the snow going over the pass then drop down to the beautiful high desert even from miles away you can see the resort off in the distance and that goes to show you just how big it really is [Music] i don't think it's my position to cover the politics behind the closure of canada but in 2018 the resort closed its doors reportedly for good luckily i had the opportunity to talk with some locals while i was there and they are formulating a plan to hopefully open again in the near future i hope that they do and i hope they do it soon before mother nature takes over because this is truly a beautiful location [Music] in its heyday kenita had pretty much everything it had a water park with slides and an olympic sized pool at an rv park and camping area 18 hole golf course horse tours kayak tours and a massive 139 room resort causing a casino spa and restaurants but today it sits vacant and unfortunately in the early stages of decay i cannot believe this place it is absolutely massive take a look at this you can't drive all the way in so i'm just hiking and grandpa's chilling in the car for a little bit so i'm gonna zip over here for a quick look just incredible wow well the chairs still on the balconies lots of wild horses out here that's what the poop's from full gym in there wow technically this place isn't abandoned it's all on native land you still own it and there's a lot of money in this property here so i'm not going to actually go inside anything i'm not even going to see if the doors are locked i just want to take a walk around and check things out massive place though oh my just incredible wow that's real rock i thought that was going to be foam the infrastructure here is just amazing i've been to a few places now where it's abandoned but the power's still on it's weird walking around seeing lights on and little junction boxes buzzing away let's see what's up here wow yeah take a look at this gym in here full of equipment yeah see even these rooms it's a key card entry not with a regular key not quite like state-of-the-art but still very very modern to just be shut down and abandon fountain room hmm whoa it's like a classroom oh my god look at this place freaking crazy well let's head well let's see nothing i had to try let's head down and catch up with gramps this walkway goes down to a nice little picnic spot down there this place is freaking huge following this old mustang trail all right here we are down at the water slides this is where the water slides in the rv park are there's horseback riding back there and then there's a 18-hole golf course here not sure exactly where probably start somewhere around here it goes that way i don't know here we go this just blows me away usually when a place shuts down it's because it's been damaged or it's old and too expensive to repair this place is in great shape beautiful area and there's hot springs close by looks like this tree fell and took down the gate here kind of works in my favor this place has only been shut down for three years already showing signs of some decay that's what happens you know earth takes over pretty quickly doesn't that just blow you away lights on wow yeah you used to be able to rent these teepees stay in them i'm pretty pretty darn cool actually this whole area here would have been the rv park look at that full hookups water power sewer not too shabby no more water not much privacy but i got a lot of lots here very cool check it out beach volleyball lots of room actually in one of these teepees i've been toasty warm with the fire going wow look at that it's even brick lined that's pretty surprising actually oh friends snack bar dude noise here's a good example of how long she's been sitting should be a nice little walkway right here closed i like the old wood on that bar there that's pretty neat golf shop it's just wild to see such a big place successful business just sitting and rotting this is the best it'll ever look right here for the rest of forever well folks there you have it that's kenita hope you enjoyed the tour this is one i really wanted to get to and it absolutely blew me away time to head over and enjoy the rest of a beautiful day with my grandfather as always take nothing but pictures leave nothing but footprints i'll catch you on the next one [Music] you can take my money steal my car and sell my clothes you can take the shoes i'm in go on take everything you can have about everything now [Applause] just [Music]
