Bay Area Forecast: Air Quality Improvements

[Music] okay the big question we are on our 28th straight day spare the air day we're going to hit 30 because it's going to be in effect until wednesday jeffree joins us now are we going to see some relief soon i really think so you guys the way things are panning out uh we are expecting some marked changes uh certainly by wednesday and thursday's forecast so it's going to be a gradual and slow change but everything is on track to continue to see some improvements so let's go ahead and bring you outside right now and you'll be able to see in san francisco not nearly as smoky as it was this weekend you can actually see a little bit of blue sky currently 64 degrees but then it's a flip here over towards livermore the smoke in the haze continues with that unhealthy air so even though we do see some blue sky in san francisco it's currently rated as unhealthy you can see from our live monitoring sites here from santa rosa to napa oakland fremont redwood city in san jose all rating unhealthy now this is a slight improvement from this weekend when everybody was under very unhealthy so there you go some slow and gradual changes but when do things really start to be more impactful for us look at this next map and it's the setup that i'm looking at in the atmosphere this is what i've been tracking for days so i'm very pleased to see everything is on track right now we have this upper level area of low pressure out here in the pacific and this is what's really being the catalyst to spur all of these changes as that gets closer wind's going to kick up especially in the upper atmosphere and i still think at this point it's going to take some of that smoke and help to push it off towards the north and the east tuesday night all the way through friday even bring parts of northern california some rain so here's the deal tomorrow morning i'm going with unhealthy air from the north bay down to the coast i think by tomorrow evening it'll start to get a little bit better and then right now the way i'm calling it based on the current fire activity what we have right now we should start to slip into the moderate category by wednesday and also on thursday again remember this improving error is all based on the current fire behavior if we see huge massive flare-ups this is all off the table but again wednesday and thursday we should start to see some mark relief for us temperatures going to warm up tomorrow with less smoke in the atmosphere we're going to start a little bit milder for the afternoon we'll have for the morning rather low 60s here for the south bay and the tri valley also beginning with the east bay at 61. san francisco some fog and also a little bit of spotty drizzle to start afternoon temperatures going hotter with less smoke going up to 87 in antioch 86 concord down to morgan hill 84 closer to the bay we're not quite as warm with 79 in san jose 77 in palo alto and 60s here from half moon bay to san francisco those rain chances still going to stay way away from the bay area from eureka right up to portland a tenth to about a half of an inch for san francisco some on and off morning drizzle would accumulate next couple of days to three hundredths of an inch so you'll see here in san francisco 60s as we roll through the next seven days and for the inland valleys we are continuing with this trend of 80s right through thursday's forecast with again some marked improvement once we roll into wednesday thursday and friday janelle and raj i got to say the power washer was my friend i certainly got that out was able to get some of that smoke and ash safely off some stuff so uh i'm feeling a little bit better like i'm winning against the smoke and that's really kind of the best way to kind of get get get rid of that ash is get a hose out and kind of wash everything off for sure and jeffy you were mentioning last week you were going to attempt to change your air filter in your car how'd that go yes well i did not get to that yet i got anything to take the stress away and do some pasta so i i hit the pasta maker instead i still gotta get to that air filter you guys he's not driving anywhere he's working from home right now so that's not on the top of the priority he's got a long to do list thank you jeff
