Battle Of The Speedmasters: Ed White vs the all-new Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch "Sapphire"

hi and welcome to fratello watches i am rj and today i will talk to you about the different speedmasters that i have here it's the speedmaster professional moonwatch with sapphire crystal that was introduced last week with caliber 3861 and the speedmaster at white with caliber 321 that was introduced last year there was exactly one year difference between the introduction both were introduced at the first speedy tuesday of the year the difference is omega made the new speed mass professional moonwatch available immediately in most markets and the speedmaster at white with caliber 321 has a limited production number so it's not a limited edition it has a limited production number the speedmaster professional moonwatch that was introduced last week is based on the fourth generation of masters the 105 o12 that was used by bus eldrin when he set foot on the moon it's the 42 millimeter speedmaster with crown guards the speedmaster at white is based on the watch that white used a few interested in that comparison but this 3861 caliber it's not new it was also there in the moonshine gold version of 2019 and apollo 11 in stainless steel from 2019 and of course in the silver snoopy award this movement is certified by metas so metas is an organization in switzerland that makes sure that for example the speeding cameras are functioning properly unfortunately and that one meter is one meter so they measure things and they certify things metas has an office within the omega building where they make sure that every watch is being tested according to this strict framework with with eight different tests and these tests include shock tests up to 5000 g's so you can play golf with this watch or seal with this watch it can handle quite a bit that is anti-magnetic up to at least 15 000 gauss that it is water resistant and that it keeps its accuracy the accuracy of the new speedmaster professional moonwatch is between zero and plus five seconds a day on average so there's no minus there's no slow running watch in the end if you look at chronometer watches the normal chronometer standard is between minus four and plus six seconds a day on average so a watch can also run slow and be within the framework so it can still be a chronometer certified watch even when it runs slow well not with the master chronometer watches done by omega if we look at the movement inside this watch a step forward has been made if you look at the finishing if you compare to the previous moon watch the finishing of the new 3861 is pretty pretty amazing it has baffled angles it has beautiful coated chinese finishing on the bridges it has some circular finishing on there and of course the nylon delrin brake is not there anymore the versions that had a sapphire case back in the past they used caliber 1863 which also did not have a delrin break and therefore they could use a sapphire case back because yeah it just looks better basically so that is the speedmaster professional moonwatch with sapphire crystal with the retail price of seven thousand and one hundred euros here in the netherlands including vat and if we then look at the ad white which has a retail price of fourteen thousand euro which is uh well double the price basically but is it double the watch as said this is based on the third generation of moon watches speedmaster and white has caliber 321 so it is based on the movement that was inside the 105.003 speedmaster that was on the moon in 1972 on the wrist of gene cernan omega has that watch in their museum and what they basically did they made a technical scan a tomography as it's being called of that watch to get a precise idea of the dimensions of that movement so they could reproduce the original 321 movement and actually it's the second generation of 321 movements there are a few differences between the 321 movements that were used and this is the second generation the main difference is the shape of one of the bridges one of the main differences between this 321 and the original 321 is that it has sedna plated finish instead of a copper colored finish this movement ticks at 18 000 beats per hour whereas the 3861 ticks at 21 600 beats per hour and it's not checked by metas so it's not a master chronometer it's also another chronometer and it runs between minus 1 and plus 10 seconds a day which is the normal accuracy for non-chronometer movements by omega it has exactly the same specifications as the original 321 so basically this is a very old movement it i think the first ones were made in the early 40s and omega stopped using it in 1968 which means that the caliber 3 861 is a modern movement based on specifications it's a better movement so why is this at white 14 000 euro and the speedmaster professional moonwatch with sapphire crystal 7100 the ed white is is handmade in a special workshop at omega where one watchmaker takes care of one watch basically the speedmaster professional moonwatch with sapphire crystal is one of the 700 and something thousand watches that are being produced by omega in their industrialized watchmaking process that of course makes a huge difference in in price but is it worth it to you and that's only up to you basically i bought this at white because i find it's worth it it it has the caliber three to one it it has the sapphire crystal it has a ceramic bezel so for me it's a watch that is a vintage inspired watch that kind that i can wear every single day without getting worried about dinks and scratches and damaging the movement or damaging the case or whatnot and of course that's something you can do with the speedmaster professional moonwatch as well both are water resistant up to 50 meters for example meaning that you can actually swim with them and omega even told us that it's no problem to swim with these watches but would you keep in mind that the add white is targeted at speedmaster enthusiasts that want to have a 321 but do not want to have the hassle or the worry to buy something that's not perhaps completely original afraid to damage the case or the movement or the dial of an original model they just want to have something that is super close to the original speedmaster moonwatch that was used on the moon and has the caliber 321 movement but want to use it as an everyday watch i think for those people this watch is very nice purchase the speedmaster professional moonwatch is a watch that more or less has the same heritage but it has a lot of modern technology on board that makes it the modern watch also perfect for everyday wear and it's available to everyone it's there's no waiting list you can just go to the omega boutique and buy one whereas this watch has a limited production um the caliber three two one movements are only being produced in batches between 1000 and 2000 per year and besides this steel model there's also a platinum model but of course i don't think that there are many of those produced so let's say at maximum there are around or just below 2 000 speedmaster add whites available per year this watch is perhaps the bread and butter for omega and they will produce many many more so in the end do you feel it's worth it to spend 14 000 euro for this watch or even 7 100 euro for this watch it's basically up to you it's a luxury product i found it's worth it i purchased mine last year in july and i really adore the ad white i wear it a lot it's between this one and the moonshine gold that i have and for me if i want to wear steel watch i find myself wearing the ant white a lot of times if i want to have an original 10503 on the wrist i pay more than the 14 000 euro especially for the condition i want to have it in and then i have to worry about dinks and scratches and so on i would not feel comfortable wearing that watch every day while with this watch i feel pretty comfortable wearing it every day nobody sees it nobody sees the value of this watch probably and besides that it's a modern watch and i can send it back to omega for service they have the parts no problem but in the end the speedmaster professional moonwatch is just as good of a watch i have a few of those in my collection as well i will order the new one i prefer the hasselite a bit myself a bit more myself to be honest but i will have one on my own wrist i like it well basically i love it it's available i think it's a step up compared to the previous moon watch mainly due to the movement but i also like the step dial i like the the new bracelets a lot that grabs back to previous
