And as soon you take it out the store it becomes Icemelon.

That's what happens when every bit of bit of food (especially not shelf stable food like produce) has to be flown in because the town is so remote and doesn't even have roads connecting it to the rest of civilization. It's also cold enough that cargo ships can't reach it most the year due to ice.

So shit that's heavy and/or bulky (watermelon is both) is going to be a premium price due to air freight and the space it takes in the plane. Probably also why the toilet paper is expensive (bulky even if it's light) and the condoms aren't.

Do jobs in that area pay enough to justify these costs? Like what do the cashiers at that store make?

Nice to see that they didn't spike up the price of Avocados.

Everything is understandable, but the $10/gal. of water. Like, Amazon a water filter or melt snow.

So now we're gonna head into the supermarket here called the Alaska Commercial Company also known as the AC store. The traditional top women in Alaska wear is a Kuspuk. I've never gotten one as long as I have lived here. This one's beautiful I really like that it has like eating or embroidery on the edges. I think that's embroidery. Yeah a lot of work goes into these. Yep. Well this store is more like a Walmart has everything furniture shoes and going over there to the groceries. So we're gonna make some quick rounds through this grocery store just to share some prices of products in a very remote Alaskan village, literally top of the world edge of the earth. 12 pack of soda its $12.95. Bag of tostitos tortilla chips on sale for $10.74. How much is a one roll of toilet paper worth to you? Here $2.60. And that's not even the good stuff. Now this is fairly reasonably priced I think you get a pack of condoms for $13 and it's a pleasure pack! Your choice you can get Lucky Charms on sale for $8.51 or fruit loops for $9.73. How much do you pay for a gallon of milk? They pay $10 here $16.82 $6.50 for a gallon of gas, $9.59 for a gallon of water. $2.89 mac and cheese. 1.3 pounds of ground beef $9.51. The avocados are $5 each and for this particular tomato just a little under $4.00. $2.99 a pound for banana. And for our grand finale of our grocery store tour, half of a watermelon for $37! you
