Barbourcreek tests Sierra GameChanger Bullets at 600 yards

[Music] hey james here from barber creek long range shooting hunting school we are going to be testing the sierra game changers these were given to us by lance so gentlemen that's been following us i cut one in half and then i have a solid one so we can kind of see the difference i will throw a photograph up probably right now so let's go ahead and we're going to shoot it at 600 yards in our 20 ballistic gel block the gel block's getting a little cloudy it's been shot once or twice i'm joking we've shot it probably four or five times so we just finished cutting this up last night and then putting in the oven for about seven eight hours so we do need cleaner gel block but that's okay we won't get a great video of it hitting and then making that expansion chamber but we're going to be able to cut it open and see what it did we're putting a 10 behind it so the 10 gel block is there basically to catch the bullet so all right i'm going to go ahead and shoot so stand by all right so we're going to shoot this at 600 yards [Music] eight and a quarter minutes my adjustment parallax wind is right at about 30 degree angles so three mile an hour man fifth diamond so one and a half mile an hour so almost all right here we go okay good shot good hit hi james and keith we just got back from shooting this at 600 yards in the ballistic gel as i said 20 is pretty cloudy but it'll still work for what we needed to as you can see the depth of penetration this is the bullet that stopped in the 10 we're at 26 inches of penetration basically the bullet actually flipped around and spun around us so i'm going to pull this out real quick on film and then what we'll do afterwards is we're going to cut this gel block open now this is the 10 that keeps cutting open right now so we can take a look at the bullet and the lead came out the jacket's still in there right he's got to tell keith don't cut himself which will happen all right as you can see by looking at this this is what's left of the game changer after this is what it started off with this is what it looks like with the cut out and cutaway and then the lid actually pulls out of here which is kind of interesting so the bullet held together real well it did spin around in the ten percent which it happens bullets spin when they hit stuff but pretty good penetration we don't know about the wound channel yet we're about to take it apart take a look at the wind channel so stand by and we're going to cut this thing open all right we're going to cut this open i'll show you a little bit and then we're going to go ahead and cut the film since this is the boring part and then we'll look at the wind channel we did hit it a little bit high i do see some fragmentation right there getting to be a master at this we're gonna hit this with the heat gun just to clean it up a little bit so we can see the new channel in just a second hey james back here we just got done shooting at 600 yards with the new sierra game changer just so people know we are at when it the bullet hit the ballistic gel it was at 2407 feet per second so plenty of retained velocity to make it function now looking at the gel block initial penetration before opening was about an inch and a quarter to an inch and then overall if you look at the diameter of the wound channel it was maybe an inch and a quarter give or take so it seemed like it functioned fairly well i kind of expected more of a larger wound channel was 2400 feet per second i shot this out of a 7bc warrior so this isn't a 7-round mag so it's pretty fast and to hit it at 2400 feet per second retain velocity and get such a small wound channel not overly impressed i actually think the hornady eldm outperformed this the only difference on this one is it did hold together real well so it does have good penetration so so there it is you guys asked for it you have the sierra and it is the game changer out of the seven millimeter performance was deep penetration mild wound channel will it kill anything absolutely you know we've seen the same thing with the eodx as the ldns and some of the other ones is where they give you that inch and a half the two inch penetration now again 20 gel block uh but really good penetration as far as that goes and you know i'm still a burger fan so burgers still perform quite well we shoot them at all distances i don't know that i'm going to shoot this any further than 600 yards i don't know that there's a reason to so just because of the performance that we got right now so again barbara creek long range hunting and shooting school another ballistic test and i've got about four more bullets of lamps sent us so we're gonna work on this go melt some more gel down and do this again so till then scouts out [Music] you
