[Music] foreign so in an unexpected move bamboo Labs has released an all-new 3D printer the p1s which went on sale about a week ago now most of us existing owners of 3D printers from bamboo Labs had already assumed that they would eventually be launching a new printer but what was expected or at least what I expected was that it would be the next iteration in line after the X1 Carbon so not long ago there were rumors based on some patents that were filed of three potentially new models such as this p1s and x1s and an x1e model now the p1s is obviously an upgraded version of the p1p that sits in between the p1p and the x1c models the x1s if it does actually materialize is probably going to be a slight step up from the x1c maybe with a larger print bag and then there's the x1e which may be a completely new or even an enhanced version of the X1 Carbon but then again that's all speculation seeing the p1s definitely does put some of that speculation into perspective and potentially in a very short period of time we may see those other two models so when I heard about the p1s and once it was announced I quickly placed an order against my better judgment and today is the day that we're going to be checking it out because I just received it hey guys my name is Chris and welcome to the build studio now if this is your first time here welcome this is my new channel dedicated to 3D printing laser engraving and basically anything that's craft or hobby related so stay tuned and we'll check this thing out [Music] okay so what we have here is the p1s which is bamboo Labs new 3D printer now what I know about this printer is that it's pretty much identical to the p1p with the exception that it now has an enclosure which will allow it to use and print with more Advanced Materials so not too long ago bamboo labs dropped the price of their p1p by about a hundred dollars and then they replaced it with this p1s 3D printer no doubt to capture more market share from their competitors so let's start by unboxing this to see what comes in this box all right so again your typical standard uh bamboo Labs box and about the same size same height same you know same weight you've got your little gray tabs on the side that you can pull up that allow you to help you carry it and again as usual I'm going to put this on the floor so I can unbox it [Applause] now I don't expect that too much will be different from the previous printers so the X1 Carbon is probably going to look the same as that one with a few minor tweaks to match what the p1p looks like because again this printer is an in-between for both the p1p and the X1 Carbon okay so as usual the the printer itself is in a bag secured by well it looks like it's not Styrofoam anymore instead it's this this uh inflated bubble wrap type stuff keeping it safe so that's a little bit different and then of course the bag itself is taped to the box to keep it from moving so we'll go ahead and just lift this thing out of the box itself foreign okay and this one is the combo version of the p1s so it does include the AMS but you can for a cheaper price purchase thus just the unit itself okay and because I did purchase the combo I do get additional filaments so this is the support for pla as well as some pla basic which is great the color green and then another roll of pla basic which again is also green now I do wish that they would send more filament than just this small amount here because it's also a waste of you know this this filament spool as well now I guess what's nice at first glance about this p1s is that it comes in a darker shade than the X1 Carbon so the panels itself matches the color of the p1p and if I'm being honest I actually do like the darker gray versus the light gray chassis of the X1 Carbon so it's nice to have this alternative color that's different and makes it stand out from the X1 Carbon okay so we'll turn this around okay so taped at the top of course is your user manual uh the quick start guide which you know we've all pretty much seen I don't think it's going to be any different from the one that we got with the X1 Carbon as well as the p1p so pretty much the same it tells you what's in it how to set up the AMS and then just the quick start guide itself installation and setup guide okay now I know some of you might be saying you know why I pay for the p1s when you have the p1p and you can just buy the enclosure and components to upgrade the p1p well I mean overall I think it's cheaper to just buy the entire thing than to buy the components I think if you buy the components separately you're actually spending more money plus you know it comes pre-assembled as well so you don't have to go through that work as well uh so that's nice so what's nice is that the lid is the glass lid the same as on the X1 Carbon which just fits perfectly on the top and it does come with an SD card pre-installed so there is this SD card in the top of the printer itself okay so let's turn this around and take out the components from the inside which is where I assume the AMS and the rest of the accessories are [Applause] okay so there are screws that you will need to unscrew and release in order to take the AMS out again just as part of you know securing this thing which is great during shipping and what's also nice about this p1s at first glance is that it comes with bamboo Labs new dual sided Pei textured plate which is supposed to be a lot better than the previous version so that's also a plus here okay so I think these are going to be hex screws let's see we'll take off the top and take out the components first so try to not get fingerprints on this so we'll take this one out first and take out the component box so in this accessories box you do get the screen and it's again the p1p screen so not as definitely not as nice and exciting as the screen for the X1 Carbon now for my installation perspective all you have to do is attach this cable to the back of the LCD screen itself or the console Itself by matching the cable to the port and plugging it in and they're locking it into place and sliding it till it locks okay in addition to that you get a glue stick which I don't use especially when you have a textured plate where it's not needed you've got this looks like the cable to the AMS itself you've got your power cable you've got your spool holder which you won't need because we're going to be using the AMS and in addition to that you do get your print head which I believe this is the extra print head now the p1s does not come with a hardened steel print head instead it's just the stainless steel one so now you have an extra one just in case you need to replace it which is always nice to have those on hand especially if you do print a lot and then of course the safety guidelines booklet which again I'm not also going to use so we'll just put that aside and then you get your hex tools you get your pipe cleaner and then another hex tool and then you get your Silicone lubricant looks like the cutter blades the and a bunch of different accessories and replacement parts which will always come in handy okay so you're going to take your hex tool and you're going to unlock the bolts that are holding the AMS in place and there is also that additional tray that is holding the AMS in place so you're just going to unscrew those screws and I believe there are only two of those which then should release the AMS and allow you to just take it out then you get your desiccant pack an extra desiccant pack which is always comes in handy and each time I unbox these 3D printers it just gets easier you know I guess it's just because of experience after a while okay so let's go ahead and unpack the AMF so we can clear out some space so it doesn't look like the AMS is any different than the previous model they haven't made any changes so if you want you know there of course are upgrades available for the AMS so you can accommodate larger spools of filament so you know make sure if you do one larger spools then you do that upgrade which is fairly easy and if you need I will link to that 3D print in the description section below foreign is unpacked okay so desiccant is still sealed so we're going to unseal it okay so these are the desiccant packs okay so there is the AMS itself all right so just to get things out of the way let's go ahead and put this back on the top and then we'll put the AMS right on top as well [Music] okay then of course you do get a bunch of extra little tubes because we do know that using the more advanced filaments could tear these up and wear these out pretty quickly so it's nice that you get a bunch of extra ones with those okay so we're gonna go and continue to unscrew the tray that's holding down that was holding down the AMS and remove that and then we'll set up the rest okay and there are four screws that you need to unscrew that are holding down this AMS tray inside the printer itself okay once those screws are loosened all you have to do is lift up and take out this extra little tray that comes with the system and you can either take and throw this aside or just keep it for use later for whatever you might need it for okay and then once that's done there are three screws that are also holding the build tray down so you need to unscrew those as well [Music] all right and once that's done we're gonna I guess set up the AMS foreign okay so you take the short cable which is the bus four pin bus cable and you're gonna plug that into the bottom and they should only fit one way so we're not rocket science okay and then you're going to take the longer cable and you're going to connect that to the AMS itself and again you can daisy chain uh ams's together for up to 16 colors of print or up to 16 color options to enable up to 16 color options and then you're going to take this cable [Music] and you're going to feed it to the back [Music] and just go this way and before we do power this thing on there is only one other thing that we need to set up which is to make sure that the carbon filter of course is all set up and I like that this one has a little box of carbon inside which you know there is also a printable version so you don't have to keep buying these and instead you can just refill it with little carbon pill filters or pellets and that I will also leave in the description section below so all that's left to do is plug it in and then home the build plate so that we can remove the styrofoam pads underneath it and then we're ready to print but in anticipation of me buying another one of the printers I did buy an extra set of these isolated rubber feet which you know I will print a little holder for these and then place on the bottom which just overall helps the vibration reduce the vibration and the amount of noise coming up from the printer itself you know so it does very much improve the overall print quality reduces the amount of noise and also the amount of you know shaking that the printer goes through when it is actually doing a 3D print so if you're interested in these I will link these in the description section below as well as the link to the little cups that these are placed in that attach to the bottom feet of the printer itself so just make sure you check the description section so for today's print we all know that bamboo Labs filaments are going to work very well in these 3D printers that are provided by bamboo Labs so today's first print and first test we're going to be using filament that was sent to me by Sun Lu who happens to be the sponsor for today's video so before we start this up let's hear a little bit more about the sponsor Sun loo is a well-known industry brand when it comes to 3D printing hardware and material not only do they carry a huge selection of high quality 3D print filaments and resin but they also carry and sell 3D printer hardware and accessories their wide selection is always priced competitively and at a much lower price than their competitors without impacting the overall quality of their print materials and when it comes to 3D printing they are one of my go-to suppliers when it comes to ordering print filament and resin now if you're in need of material currently they do have a sale going on for 25 to 50 percent off on the vast majority of their products so please do make sure you use my link in the description section below and thanks sunloof for sponsoring this video is to scan the barcode and then add the printer to your handy app and your bamboo Labs account so you just need to follow the instructions on the screen to add the printer then log in and then add it not only to your account but also add it to the Wi-Fi so that you can control this 3D printer remotely and wirelessly so when it detects the printer you're going to add it and then that's it and then once that's done it's going to have you start and do the self-test which is the first thing you do when you set up this printer and that's going to be before we feed the filament into the AMS as well okay and then once we're ready we're going to go ahead and run the self-test routine so before we again do our print there is an updated firmware so we are going to update the printer as well so we'll just go ahead and update the printer and then when that's done we'll come back and do our first test spray [Music] okay so now that the firmware has been updated we're just going to go feed the filament into the AMS at least the first two and then we're going to go into the app so the BAM the handy app and then we are going to define the filament so the first filament is of course the Twilight blue which I will just put there pla and then save that and then the second one is black generic see if they have pla plus they don't have pla Plus on here so PLS and again I don't really like this screen compared to the screen on the x1c I just find it very difficult to use uh so we will print a benchy and I'm going to assume it's going to use the filament in the first slot so we'll do that it's going to take about we don't know how much time it is going to take yet let's go ahead and print it okay so now that that's done as you can see the benchy turned out very nice very smooth and pretty much perfect quality so like most other bamboo lab 3D printers it always amazes just how fast how high quality and how good these prints turn out and this is also using some high quality filament from Sun loo as well so as you can see this blue Twilight benchy turned out very well I don't think I see any imperfections at all from the print itself and it turned out amazingly smooth amazingly accurate and just looks amazing in general now overall I can't say I understand what bamboo lab's strategy is because if you think about it right now the p1p is priced at about six hundred dollars and the p1s is priced at about 700 so about a hundred dollar difference and if you think about it the cost of buying the upgrade kit for the p1p is roughly around 150 dollars plus you know the time it takes for you to set up and install those parts and just convert it to the p1s so overall for a hundred dollars more you could just end up buying the p1s and it would end up a lot cheaper than purchasing the p1p so I don't know if the strategy over time is to phase out an end of life the p1p and replace it with the p1s but that just seems like it makes sense to me because really it doesn't make sense to have the p1p if the p1s exists unless of course that's catering to 3D enthusiasts or individuals who just like an open printer rather than a enclosed printer so who knows what the strategy is but I I doubt before long that we'll all see what's going on foreign okay so overnight I did do some additional test prints and as you can see I did go ahead and print out one of my new modular hydroponic tower components uh which is an advanced print and I did not use any kind of supports when I did this print and as you can see it turned out very nicely it's very smooth high quality and no imperfections at all pretty much now I did use some Advanced material from Sun Lu so I did use their matte black pla filament and as you can see it just turned out very nice uh it's got a nice weight to it it's super solid and overall no imperfections at all so as you can see the p1s does live up to the quality of both the x1c the p1p and pretty much all of bamboo Labs printer products so overall when you look at the specs your p1s is pretty much the same as your x1c and the p1p from a print quality and print capability perspective now the only difference is that it is cheaper than the x1c and just a little bit more expensive than the p1p but as you can see it fits right into the middle ground of both of those printers now at the end of the day I am super happy with my p1s purchase but if you are just starting your 3D printing journey I would recommend you start with a p1p just because that is the cheapest model then once you get the hang of it I would recommend that if you want more 3D printers jump to the p1s then if you want to be able to print pretty much any type of material and have all the bells and whistles then you can graduate to the x1c But ultimately I think you won't be sorry with your purchase every single model of 3D printer from bamboo lab has performed flawlessly for me anyways I do hope you enjoyed this video and found it helpful please make sure you support this channel by
