[Music] [Applause] this has going to be one of the most iconic view of the Adon High Peaks the first time that you would see the high peaks as you're driving into Adon that Lodge and the first time I was here ever I came here with my dad my sister my brother-in-law when I was 12 years old and this is a very very special place for me because this right here looking at these mountains this is where it all began and today I get to share this very special place with my daughter rosley unfortunately Charlotte had to miss out on this trip because she got sick last minute we also have some cousins with us and uh my brother-in-law is here as well the F the person who was here with me for the first time ever more than 24 years ago so I'm super excited to be back so let's hit the Trail and start hiking come on this trip's going to be pretty simple nothing crazy like I said we're big introduction to the idea of backpacking not just hiking with the kids so everybody's carrying their own load I've been working a lot at trying to figure out how I can put together a setup for Rosie that's not super light that's not super heavy sorry she's literally fully selfs aable with her pack except the food I'm the one that has the food because it's all in the bare canister here it's already late in the day it's like 4:00 4:30 so we're just hiking to I think it's called the washbowl campsite so 7 miles just going to hike up there for today and then tomorrow we're going to head up to Giant mountain and we'll be back down to the car tomorrow night so just a I think it's just going to be a perfect little introduction for [Music] [Applause] them ah I have a heavier backpack than IL and ol I've never felt anything heavier I'm already sweating just me walking a hill [Music] [Music] say to [Music] got more buger the mosquitoes are out the mosquitoes are out [Music] [Music] [Music] we made it to the washbowl here giant washbowl there's a nice little campsite here it was for casted to rain and uh you definitely see some of the clouds coming around so not sure if it's going to rain or not but at least now we're all set up already we've got some firewood already collected uh everybody's kind of happy people are making their food so it's nice and early too it was about uh 7:00 now exactly as I wanted it I didn't want today to be a big day we had to drive in and everything so having just a nice 45 minute hike up here so we can set ourselves up and we can enjoy a little bit of Camp life before the big day of hiking tomorrow for the kids I think will be great [Applause] so okay is there ounces on there yeah 6 oz that's 8 oz mhm okay [Music] and then what I would do is put it right down back here [Music] [Laughter] so start [Laughter] over have a good squeeze pour it in all the way perfect now put it down and take your long Spork and then and then stir everything in you want to make sure you stir stir stir stir stir do this good I've never tried it can I try it please go ahead best can I just [Music] taste I didn't want this that's really good wow why that is really good this see [Music] so I asked the kids to collect firewood and they came back with a pile of Twigs so I guess it's uh still my task chicken terak oh up [Music] [Music] nothing like instant coffee with what looks to be black flies and no see him flying on floating on top of it yay camping we're just about ready for the day now we've got uh what was it 4.5 km to the top from the we did 1.3 yesterday so for the wiiz ones out there who can do math 3.5 3.2 so 3.2 km to the summit and then we uh we did 200 M of elevation here and I think the total was 900 so 700 left over 3.3 it's going to be a bit of a steep climb so this is Brio and he is very he's very nice and he likes my hand and my arm and he's orange with bright orange spots and then I think on the back is all orange too I don't know if you saw that [Music] yeah 7:53 and uh we're already on trail considering we we got four kids and we're six total that's a that's good that's very very good some of us today are just day packing it up there others Rosie and I chose to take our full packs up there that's not needed to carry your full pack because we are walking back down the same way we came so but I am out here to test out this new 3fu u45 bag which so far I've really enjoyed how well it carries have probably about 35 lbs on my back right now I took an extra 5 lbs away from Rosie for today and uh I just I've really been enjoying it it's a bit big for uh the summertime but when you come out with the with the kids you yet to carry a little extra gear for them on the other end Rosie's trying out the kids the cathlon I think it's 40 L pack which I've been very impressed super affordable fairly light I wish it was a little lighter to be honest if they removed a few features they could easily uh get to that I'm a big fan of very minimalistic roll top bag one pocket as little zippers as possible as little Clips as possible just reduce the amount of things that can break on it the amount of opening to the bag I like him super super simple so I do think they could have achieve that and lower the the weight but at the end of the day it's got some really cool features a really nice mesh pocket at the back HIIT belt pocket um it uh the frame adjusts as they grow it's a really neat pack and she was carrying about 20 lbs in it today she she has about 15 and uh I have some pretty small kids not very big and uh or tall and uh she didn't complain about the pain so I'll report back later see how that goes [Music] [Music] [Music] you all right things just got real we got our first uh I don't want to do this anymore from Rosie which is totally normal it is her first time being out here but it's so good it's such a good thing to to learn to persevere through these challenging things because it does become quite not inous to to hike a mountain it's just always the same thing same thing and we're about halfway up the mountain that's about when doubt start settling into your head it happens to us adults as well depending on how vers you are and how challenging the terrain is so I'm happy thatth she's getting to learn how to manage this at 11 and not at 30 or 20 these are such good skills that are transferable I'm confused everyone's saying 15 minutes that couple that just passed they said 15 minutes we're getting close but I just want want to be there I know we're getting pretty close we're going to hit the intersection soon and I'm telling you as soon as we get up there start walking down and the way down is going to go so fast but I just I want to get up there and E well if you want you can go ahead listen look at me the way is when you get to the intersection you're always going to Giant so take a left but I don't know what the intersection is and I it'll be it'll be obvious when you see it but there no more inter yeah one more intersection right to the summit right to the summit Ro don't be upset that's the intersection that leads you to the stomach okay so if you want to bomb ahead go for it so again all right girl you guys want to bomb ahead and hit the summit first go for it it's [Applause] raining what did I tell tell you takes a little bit more convincing at this point that's normal it's the same for most kid plus she's doing it like full pack so I'm actually really really proud of her I don't mind a little complaining it's all part of the process we're just hitting the intersection to Rocky Ridge Peak another one of the 46ers out here and uh well that means we're just at the peak which is good and I'm so proud of rosley for doing it full pack very very proud that's very good cuz we've got some big big trips coming up this summer like big trips big Expeditions going going to be out for 4 14 days on one of our Expedition so we have to build a little grit and there'll be portes and it's not going to be backpacking but still going to be some hiking and certainly some certainly going to have to certainly going to be challenging at times so nice view you know so wor all I you did it well that's just my luck in 2024 so far in B we were we were socked in in January in February when I went to the Adon ax we were God we were at the top of Cen in a massive massive Windstorm and a massive storm snowstorm blizzard like and then last month have to see it was socked in and challenging weather and here we are again I don't think I've been to the ader onax in years without being socked in so that is uh that's just fascinating it's just how it goes how was your first full pack hike up a mountain experience not good why my shoulders Hur and I'm really tired it was it was a fun experience though I did cry a bit just because like it was really hard to get up the hill every single time when we'd ask someone it'd be like 15 minutes and the other person said 15 minutes and it'd be like if people trying to just play with me well folks if you made it this far in the video you know it you're part of the true fan club I really really really appreciate you thank you so much for watching all the way to the end I'm extremely grateful for you on my part uh the 3fu u45 plus 15 L on the outside so essentially a 60 L pack worked really well I'm very impressed with this pack the how comfortable it is carrying about 35 lbs on my back I've been really really pleased with it so once again if you're looking for an ultra light option that can carry up to 60 L of capacity coming in just at 2.3 2.5 lb the pack check it out again in the link in the description below and uh I'll catch you guys on the next one make sure to stay tuned because there's some really really big and uh interesting stuff coming up that I'm super excited to share with you so see you in the next one peace
