hi everyone in this video i wanted to share with you a comparison of two b6 bound planners i have the wonderland 222 which you see here on the left and the franklin planner uh franklin planner weekly nope i think this would be considered a daily planner so i'm going to start with the wonderland and for both i want to share with you what i like about each what i don't like about each and ultimately which one i decided to continue using and why so the wonderland 222 i believe they offer an a5 size a b6 size and possibly an a6 size or the a6 size is coming and you can purchase these individually or as a bundle so what i have here is the vertical weekly planner and then the undated daily notebook so i'm going to start with the planner it's 288 pages of 52 gsm to mow a river paper i do believe that this is the newer tamoy river paper and i think that what makes it newer is there's some sort of different coating on it it feels very similar to like the hobonichi paper um but it does feel different there is a difference there so keep that in mind it is also not a bright white it is more of a cream color so that might be something for you to consider the planner begins with i think you get four pages here of index five pages followed by a four year spread so 2020 through 2023 followed by a 2021 yearly spread that i was using to track my weight and then you get a quarterly spread this could be used for project planning future planning pre-planning so many different options that is followed by the monthly trackers so if you're somebody who really likes to do habit tracking or you could use this as a project timeline and you like that sort of bullet journal type you know tracker or spread this is a great option if you are like me and don't like drawing all of those out i should also mention that this starts in november of 2020. so i did use this like i said from october or i don't know if i said it but i use this from october 2020 to february 2021 following the trackers you have your monthly spread now there's a note section here because here you start the monthly overview so each month has an overview and each month has a review section so you have let me show you a blank one you have the monthly review followed by the monthly overview this is great for keeping track of projects goals anything that you can think of it does have some sections here so there's this light kind of grayish brown uh color with these different sections obviously you can use those or not i'm gonna use this one because it's blank so each month has the monthly overview followed by a two-month spread so you can see here that there's some notes uh a notes area over here on the left followed by the previous month and the subsequent month the following month and then you have a monday start calendar and the boxes are pretty um pretty decent sized and they have the moon phases along with any um you know important holidays i do like that they included juneteenth there so after the monthly overview you have your weekly spread so this is a vertical weekly layout you can see that the columns are nice and wide and part of that is because the saturday and sunday are stacked on each other so you do lose a little bit of space here that was not a deal breaker for me because i don't usually have much going on on the weekends but you can see that each of the days has a little section up at the top you have three boxes here and then you have i think seven boxes down here and then in the timed section you can see these darker lines right here kind of dividing morning afternoon and evening and the times go from 7 a.m to 10 p.m i think and maybe 9 p.m i don't know and let's see one two three four five nine pm and it does include the half hour increments and then at the end of that you have 88 blank pages to do with what you please and this is basically how the daily uh notebook is laid out you have your page divided into three sections you have the page divided in half vertically up here and this larger horizontal section down here a spot for the date and then your times go from 5 am to midnight with the half hour increments so a lot of freedom a lot of space to do what you like so this could be really great as a you know just as a planner if you don't need daily pages it's very it's almost to me like a b6 version a b6 vertical version of the hobonichi weeks obviously it's wider it has a vertical layout versus the horizontal layout now the downside is is i think that the original hobonichi weeks might have more pages in the back i don't really remember and obviously the mega has more pages in the back and then you have if the back the pages in the back aren't enough for you you can purchase the daily notebook now obviously you can use this for other things than a daily planner because you do have um the exact same page that i just showed you the layouts but there are 306 pages here so i use this as a daily notebook from like i said october 2020 to february 20 21 and i absolutely loved it um i love that i can use my fountain pens on here i love the freedom in the you know in the pages sometimes i use two pages per day sometimes i used one page per day it really kind of just depended on what i needed i do use this as a work and personal planner i am a high school and college teacher though i don't do any lesson planning in here and that's kind of how i get away with it but what i've learned is it helps me to keep everything together so one of the things that you'll notice here um i have my weekly tasks here and this was this became a huge problem for me because how i originally started using this was my weekly pages would represent what should happen on that day so i would put you know obviously the things that i knew were happening like my work schedule my kids schedule i just try to schedule my workouts if i schedule them i'm more likely to do them um i like to include the weather so i know how to plan that you know you know what to plan for like for kids and everything um i did eventually start putting a little calendar here some meal planning and my weekly tracker i do like having the weekly tracker here because it just even if it was redundant it helped me keep track of things um what i did realize though is what i just said is that it became redundant for me because what i realized is what i really needed and what i use most out of a weekly is the is i need to know what my weekly tasks are because our events don't typically change too much right now and so um what i tried to do in this section in february and this week was just using this as a task place rather than including that just here in my daily notebook so i would have typically these two layouts would consist of my weekly planning everything that should happen along with the tasks that i wanted to complete using the alastair method but again like i said what i realized this became very redundant to me because the heart of my planning was in the daily page so this task list became more important to me than this section then this part here which is what brought me to the franklin planner now i do want to talk about really quickly some of the things that i like and some of the things that i don't like about the wonderland i like the neutral color scheme i like that it's a monday start i like that it's tomoe river paper i like that if i just want to use this it's a thin notebook um i originally liked the idea of having the two two separate because i had the freedom to use as many pages in here as i wanted i wasn't constricted no i wasn't restricted to just one day per page um you know i could just use it as i see fit so this one lasted me about five months but you can see here that the spine is having some issues and starting to separate i will tell you that [Music] um i did post about this in the wonderland facebook group and the owners reached out to me immediately their customer service is absolutely amazing they did send me a brand new book but i was already a hundred and something pages in and didn't want to switch now i do think that it probably would last i can see that the individual signatures are they look like they're sewn but they certainly are not as um as good that's not the word i'm looking for but it's not as structured or as good is all the only thing i think of it's not as good as this one here so that did become an issue for me now i did house both of these in my custom van der speck codex b6 codex this is just slightly smaller than the julia opunto in terms of width and i believe height as well but how i had this was the planner portion was in the back and the um [Music] daily notebook was tucked over here in the front and it worked fine and you can see here that it fits together okay it is a bit chunky you know i mean you got two books in here but you can see that because it is two books and because of the way i have to put them in the codex the spine becomes smushed and starts to separate now i will say that i do have friends that have this planner as well and there's also did the same thing and you know so i do think that that's a down downside to this planner now i think that if they would consider in the future putting these two books into one so it was similar to the hobonichi cousin so that you had the weeks the months and the days all in one i would very much love that um and i think that if they could fix the issues with the spine that would be ideal so that takes us to the franklin planner so this is i believe a division of franklin covey or maybe franklin planner is the parent company and frankly i really don't know and i did not do any research prior to filming this so at my apologies but this is the b6 size this can be found on amazon japan that's the only place that i'm aware that you can purchase it and i do think it's worth mentioning that while these both say that they are b6 size you can see that there is definitely a size difference to my knowledge b6 is traditionally five by seven um and this franklin planner is closer to that basic size whereas this is closer to like a personal wide insert size so closer to 4.75 across and 6.75 in length or height so that is definitely something to consider now this is a daily planner um and let's walk through it so this is like a contact sheet this is like franklin planner information then you get your yearly overviews the current year and the following year followed by your monthly layout this one started in november of 2020 this one started in december december 2020 so you do get an additional month in the wonderland this is also a monthly start and for the most part the color scheme is fairly neutral the boxes here on the franklin planner are just slightly smaller than the boxes in the wonderland and you do still get this extra space down here and with the boxes being a little bit smaller you do get extra notes sections down here um i believe that this paper is tomoe river paper i cannot verify that um right now i did have this planner back in i think 2017 i did not even use it i don't know why but i do know that that one for fact had tomoe river paper this one feels a tad bit thicker so it could be the 68 gsm version but it is a little bit brighter of a white though still not bright white and it behaves very similar to similarly to my river paper my fountain pens work beautifully on it they do dry a little bit faster so maybe that's an indicator that it's not to my river paper but whatever it is i very much enjoy it now after the monthlies you get a spread for future planning this sort of perpetual calendar on two pages so the first six months of 2022 followed by the last six months of 2022 goodness and then you get into your weekly page now your weekly page is just that it's one page versus two and really the heart of it is this weekly task section and that was a huge selling point for me because like i said in the wonderland 222 after using it for so long i realized how the weekly pages became very redundant for me and that the heart of my planning was really in my daily pages and so one of the downsides that this might have for you is that a lot of it is in japanese i believe that's what it is and so if you don't speak japanese like myself you don't know what this says for me it's not too bothersome because i just pretend that you know it's whatever i want it to be or whatever i need it to be i also do not know very much about the franklin covey planning system so if you are curious about that i suggest you check out their website but all of this has to do with that planning system and i do not have the little booklets well here's the april start version so this is what it looks like when it comes to from amazon japan and you get this um system back here and or this little booklet and it explains how to use everything now of course you could just use probably google translate to get you through all of this i don't have time to do that and i'm just going to use it for what i want to use it for but that's what that looks like and so i haven't decided what i'm gonna put up here i think what i'm gonna start putting up here are my weekly events or appointments but what you can see here is i have put the days of the week there are seven lines so that works out perfectly and then the weather this was my workout schedule followed by specific daily or weekly events or appointments and then i have the weekly tasks section and that's followed by your daily pages the daily page is a lot more structured than the wonderland clearly but you have your calendar i'm assuming this is a little inspirational quote of some sort you have your days of the week and date up here and then you have your tasks and activities and i believe the idea is that you take your tasks from here and migrate them over here for each day so very kind of similar to like the bullet journal or alastair method and i really like that and you can see here that they have their different signifiers very similar to the bullet journaling system and those same ones are up here so there is like an actual system that um you know they want you to use and obviously you can do with it what you like so up here i've been putting my food diary and then my tasks and then here you have your appointment schedule which goes from 7 a.m to 10 p.m and it does have the half hour increment and then you have the daily notes section now i i thought that i was going to be uh sort of turned off by the structure because i was really enjoying the freedom of the undated dailies in my wonderland but this has been working for me very well my other concern was that in the wonderland there were times that i would use the i would use two pages per day and here you don't have that luxury uh what i have found that i like that that the uh pages are predated is that i will forward plan on there so if i know for example that i need to have grades due or that you know grades need to be turned in by a certain day i will put that both on the weekly task and i will go ahead and write it ahead like i have you know here but i will write it ahead like where's march so i have on march 15th here quarter grades are due and then i'm going to add that to that day so that part i really like it really helps me and it also kind of helps me keep my monthlies to be less cluttered so my monthlies tend to be only high level work things like holidays um i don't know holidays um but then they are high level for personal items like uh birthdays uh appointments doctor's appointments things like that so it helps me keep my monthlies less cluttered by doing it this way so i found that i really liked it i did go back and completely back plan in here because i got this i received this mid-february so i did back plan my january i'm almost finished with my february pages but i will tell you is that it helped me sort of map out how i wanted to use the weeklies section i really love this weekly task section so far it has been plenty of room for all of my tasks both personal and work related and you can see here that i started adding the dates and over here i use this for meal planning but overall i very very much enjoy this planner i have chosen to stick with this one spoiler alert instead of the wonderland and a large reason for that is because it's a one book system and because of that weekly task section so what i want to show you is if what you're noticing what's missing from here are the trackers obviously there's no trackers in here and what happens when you do have more information that can fit on one particular page so my solution to that was ordering this notebook from paper penguin paper penguin co and this is 160 pages of tomoe river paper this particular one is the 52 gsm i did request the four millimeter grid because i prefer the smaller grid and i know what you're probably thinking like the two book system didn't work for you for wonderland but yet you have two books here the difference my friends is that this book is much smaller and the binding on the one book is much better so i can slip this into my cover and i can put this book here and it would be fine and it's together these two are slimmer than the two wonderland books so that's a huge plus for me i can also put this book back here and it's not going to damage the spine because the spine on this is a lot better constructed than the wonderland i can also and what i what i will do is just keep this tucked in like this and keep this here now having the two wonderland books together when you're riding on top of this one and it's like this there is oh that's my three-year-old sorry um it creates an uneven writing surface which i think contributes to the spine issues whereas here because this book down in the back is much thinner it does not create an uneven writing surface i will also tell you that i think because the signatures in the franklin planner book there are they're thinner and there's more of them and the spine is just better it automatically opens flat no matter what page you go to and that is a huge win and plus for me so in this section or in this notebook rather i have not finished migrating information over from my wonderland but i did go through a number of the pages i've printed because i do not like drawing the layouts i love the bullet journal system and idea but the layouts i cannot stand to draw so these are inserts they are personal wide inserts from not paper peanuts planner co and this is where i intend to do my pre-planning and or future planning and i just taped them in here with the tombow um adhesive tape roller and then i have the yearly spread which again i'm tracking my weight followed by another yearly spread where i'm going to identify the specific workouts that i've um been doing and then this is sort of going to function as an overview of the information from my apple watch so whether i've closed my rings i'm going to put stickers here i haven't done that yet and then that is followed by my monthly trackers these are pronounced from simply in trendy code i have not finished putting these in yet so i'll finish that that is followed by my monthly gratitude and highlights which i have been loving it's really been helping with my overall mindset and then from there i have divided my sections with just these little you know like thermal thermal paper printers i got mine from pulley print i honestly can't tell you why i chose this one over some of the others i suppose that's for another video so in this section i think i have about four pages i'm just need to migrate my yearly goals and intentions and then that section is followed by what i intend to be my notes section so if i have more information that i need to write down or want to write down whether it's journaling from a phone call or whatever the case might be that i cannot fit on the daily page i plan to put it here and just write the corresponding page number somewhere on this page i don't really use this section so i would probably write it over here maybe at the bottom i don't know so that's my plan for this now i can replace this if i need to um very easily so i can have multiple books although i think that this will be sufficient for the whole year i'm really hoping so i did order the 80 page insert um but i think i can get through the year with just this coupled with this so together these two are much slimmer than the two wonderland books together and i've really really been enjoying them if you have any questions please let me know i hope that this video was somewhat helpful for you and thanks for watching
