oh so good to be with you today what a turnout this is fantastic I feel very privileged to be here and little intimidating to go after speakers like we just heard to be honest with you that was fantastic and any others that have spoken here just just wonderful I do want to bring to bear my area of expertise which is astronomy and show you that astronomy reveals creation we live in a world where the Bible is attacked you can't believe the Bible because of science is what they claim that's the big one isn't it well the Bible makes this mistake in science and that mistake it clearly can't be the Word of God so you shouldn't trust it on matters of salvation that is one of the main obstacles for people coming to know the Lord Jesus as their Savior and as their Lord that's it and I can't cover all of science today I can't even cover all of astronomy today but I want to give you a little taste to that you can use this information in conversations with people to show them actually the science confirms what the Bible teaches it reveals creation it doesn't it's not consistent with a Big Bang in billions of years and I can't believe people believe that still in this age of enlightenment people believe in the Big Bang and things like that it's ridiculous I want to show you that the evidence really reveals creation I'm not using this evidence as if it were superior to the Bible and in an attempt to prove the Bible from some superior standard in my view the Bible is the ultimate standard itself a testing it proves itself it's actually what proves the methods of science as it were it makes them possible but I do think this is a great way to start a conversation with someone who has skeptical of the Bible and who has been taught that the science allegedly refutes what the Bible teaches it's good to know a little bit about astronomy so that you can refute that did that sound exciting can we deal with that this this afternoon so I'm going to show you how the secrets of the cosmos confirm the Bible I'll deal with five secrets time depending we're just a little bit behind schedule so but I'm going to show you how the glory of the Lord is revealed in heavens that's one of the secrets that we see when we look into the cosmos it really does feel God's glory we're gonna see that that the Bible is right when it talks about the basics of astronomy things like the roundness of the earth and so on things that we would take for granted today things that you would learn in any freshman level astronomy class the Bible got him got all those details exactly right we're gonna see that even on areas where secular scientists today would disagree like the age of the universe we're gonna see that the Bible got it exactly right when the Bible talks about the uniqueness of the earth we're gonna see that the science lines right up with that we live on a very unique world and we're gonna see that the Bible is right about distant star light time permitting but I think that's an important issue and I'd like to deal with that so let's start with the glory of God the Bible's right when it speaks about God's glory the size and beauty of the universe confirm biblical creation they don't confirm a Big Bang just a chance accidental universe I suppose it's easier to believe in a that the universe is the result of chance if you don't know much about it but the more you study it the more you see the mind of God revealed in his creation the Bible tells us that the heavens declare the glory of God the skies proclaim the work of his hands a beautiful poetic way of saying that we can learn something about God by observing his universe and I I'm gonna argue that there at least two ways in which the university Clair's God's glory I'm gonna say that the size and the beauty of the universe are consistent with the mind of God and not with just a random chance sort of happening there's lots of other ways the universe declares God's glory we could talk about the power of all these you know billions of stars and so on we could talk about the clockwork precision that the Lords built into the universe or the the laws of nature and how they work together and so on I'll just I'm just gonna hit two for times sake the size and the beauty of the universe and these are some things that have always impressed me even since I was a little kid people ask how did you get into astronomy well it's it's something that God just kind of put it put in my being really it's just fascinating to me that the universe is so beautiful and large beyond your imagination I can't really give you the full feeling or the size of the universe no human being can comprehend that but I can give you some things that we can kind of wrap our brains around we're gonna start with the moon and kind move out the moon is relatively small it's only about the size of the United States if you would line up the united states at the same distance as the moon it would cover about the same area in the sky and the moon is just fun to look at in a small telescope or even in binoculars and we do observing sessions at IC r we're gonna try to do this a little more regularly in the near future but well you know have people come and look at the moon and it's stunning and sometimes people will ask well can you see the flag but the astronauts planet but no you can't you can't see the flag when you consider how big this is as big as the United States you're not gonna be able to see something quite that small but we do have spacecraft orbiting the moon taking high-resolution images of the surface and we now can actually see the places where the astronauts landed in the material that they left on the surface yeah I'm not making this up this is the Apollo 11 landing site here and zoom in on the Sea of Tranquility and that is the actual landing site of the Apollo 11 spacecraft remember when they launched they left the lower portion of the craft to save fuel so it's still there that's spider-like looking structure you can see that right there in the middle and some instruments that they left on the on the lunar surface and you can even see the that's streaked there you see that over to the right of that crater and then to the left of the crater and then back that's the footprints of the astronauts as they walked over to that crater back 40 year old footprints and so it's really amazing that we can see stuff like that and so if you're one of those people that believes we never went to the moon because you saw a special on Fox it's all Photoshop don't worry about well the scale of the cosmos is is amazing as its beauty it really is so let's go out a little bit further in space again the moon by the way the the best phase to look at the moon is when it's illuminated right now in the middle that first quarter phase and then the craters really stand out and it's just really stunning in that phase you can it looks so three-dimensional when it's full looks flat as a dime but when it's in first quarter you can see the brain can figure out from the the way the light falls on the craters it can figure out that it's a sphere it's really neat to look at it in that way but that's small compared to the earth there's the moon in the earth at their true scale and of course the earth is just a beautiful world to see from space we do you realize how privileged we are to live at the time in which we live where we can have pictures like that of the Earth from space for six thousand years are almost people did not know what the earth looked like from space nor did they even know what the the far side of the moon looked like and now we can buy a globe of that pretty cheap it's amazing but it's pretty small cosmically speaking we have Saturn for example at its true scale about nine earths across and that's just the planet Saturn the Rings extend even farther out into space Saturn's a ball of gas held together by its own gravity and then the there's rings or trillions of tiny little moonlets that orbit around Saturn little pieces of ice and and dust and so on that orbit around Saturn's equator and give it that beautiful system there and of course it's it strong to be such a lesson in perspective because if you look at Saturn through backyard telescope it just looks like this tiny little gem you know you just kind of want to pull it out there and stick it in your pocket you know like a piece of jewelry or something but it's it's much bigger than the earth it's a real lesson in perspective Santa is pretty small compared to the Sun there's the Sun at its true scale yeah and the Sun is basically a stable hydrogen bomb that has it releases more energy every second than a billion major cities could use in an entire year and you say why would God you know waste all that energy well he's got unlimited resources it's not a problem for him my problem at all the Sun is what we call a main-sequence star and by the way even that is something that we've only known for a few centuries that those other little specks you see in the night sky those are the same type of thing as the Sun they're also these little nuclear bombs that's goddess placed and of course God can construct them in such a way that they're safe for us which is amazing we wish we could do that kind of we wish we could have controlled fusion we haven't figured it out yet but God is master debt and he's made a universe full of these things incredible main sequence star basically means it's the smallest class of star main sequence means that obeys a rule an equation such that if you know the mass of the star you know everything else about it you know its size its temperature its color everything its brightness the Sun obeys that role and so do most of stars 90% if they're if stars are red and their main sequence they're smaller than the Sun and most stars are these little red dwarfs that you see there and even they're bigger than the earth is by quite a bit but they're smaller than the Sun but some stars are much larger than the Sun for example Mintaka which is one of the stars of Orion's belt and that is a blue supergiant it's incredibly luminous it gives off an incredible amount of energy it's quite far away actually it's very bright we have Canopus which is larger still okay of course the earth is reduced to invisibility at this point you see and in fact the Sun is just barely visible at that point it just gives you a feel for the scale of these things Canopus is a star that you can see a white supergiant you can see it in the in the South very low in the sky in around February after sunset Antares one of the largest stars we know of stars only get a little bit bigger than that and then there's problems they would actually blow up if you tried to make them to much bigger than that anyway so that's Antares and that's a red supergiant about 600 suns you could line up across its disk and about a hundred earths per Sun so you multiply that out and it's really big stars sometimes come in clusters as if it wasn't just you know if if we weren't impressed that God could make a star like Antares we have clusters where you have maybe a hundred thousand stars in a relatively small region of space two kinds of clusters open clusters and globulars open they're kind of spread out you have a few thousand stars I love these globular clusters though you can see these in a small telescope if you know where to look and you in your backyard actually you have to get away from LA but you get you get the point you can see them and that's maybe a hundred thousand stars in that cluster and it reminds me of that passage where the Bible says that God calls them all by their name Scott has a name for each and every one of those stars and we can we can only estimate how many there are we can't count them God counts them and names them amazing some of the most beautiful objects in the universe are nebulae that's a plural nebula singular it means cloud and it's not a cloud of water vapor like you'd find in Earth's atmosphere but it's a cloud of hydrogen gas hydrogen and helium the same stuff that stars are made of but stars are compact and nebulous spread out over a vast region of space our solar system wouldn't even show up on that image it's huge God paints beautiful artwork and he does it on a very very large canvas it's amazing now there are some nebulae that are smaller by the way the the reason they glow is they're heated up by nearby stars and that causes that gas to glow and you get beautiful colors these smaller types are called planetary nebulae and these are about the size of the solar system so that's still pretty big but it's small compared to other things in space and in a planetary nebulae you have a star in the middle and it's ejecting gas usually out the North and South Poles of that star so you have that bipolar structure or sometimes they're round and they're called planetary nebulae actually they look sort of like another focus planet there's no there's no other connection there and some of them are even the ones that are round it could be that they're bipolar too but maybe we're looking right down the barrel that's a possibility we don't really know we can't get another angle on it because we're here and we're not going anywhere it really we have the ring nebula at one of my favorites one of the first that I learned how to find you can see this in the summer night sky not too far away from the star Vega and it's so it's just so neat see this you pointed telescope most places you see stars and stars there's this one magic spot where you will see a glowing smoke ring it is so strange now your eyes at night they don't pick up the color so well it looks kinda like a grey version of that but it's really strange to see this little smoke ring this little cosmic cheerio suspended in space they're hanging on nothing you know you're sort of expecting it to disperse which it is it's just so big you know in a century it would expand just a little bit so there's a star in the middle that's made that and that star is a white dwarf it's collapsed in on itself and no longer fusing hydrogen but the stunning structure is very beautiful all of these things that we've looked at all of these planets stars star clusters nebulae or in a much larger structure a galaxy and astronomers used to think that our galaxy the Milky Way that was the universe as the only one they could see these other galaxies but they thought maybe they were small and within our own galaxy and in 1920's 1930's they started seeing individual stars in these galaxies and realizing these are Island universes these are other galaxies like ours and the universe was and at that point we learned the universe was much larger than we thought previously amazing there are all kinds of galaxies out in the universe they're galaxies of tremendous beauty there are galaxies of tremendous ugliness yeah there are galaxies with large mysterious arrows next to them you see it in all the textbooks they're galaxies that have rings of stars surrounding them isn't that beautiful there are galaxies that look like flying saucers that's a real galaxy isn't that interesting you can see that it's in a part of the Virgo supercluster you can see that in spring skies if you have a small telescope you know where to look you can see that galaxy galaxies in the process of collision I think they're probably created in the process of collision isn't that interesting and of course the stars would just all pass by each other yeah so it's not a problem at all that's not a problem for us we're not there anyway but even if we were it wouldn't be a problem because the stars would all miss each other got even further in space you find galaxies upon galaxies upon galaxies those are not stars in that picture those little fuzzy things are galaxies with hundreds of billions of stars each we've got even deeper into space not a star field that's a galaxy field there's a little spat all those tiny even the tiniest little ones you see there are galaxies at tremendous distances that's about the limit of our ability to detect at this point in time in terms of our technology isn't that amazing all of that spoken into existence by God he spoke and they left into existence that's power and all that was made in six days in fact most of this is made in one day day four that's when God makes the luminous objects in the universe this you know the lesser light the greater light the Stars also the hebrew word star would include things like planets as well so yeah that's amazing and I love the way the Bible describes the creation of all these hundreds of billions of galaxies with hundreds of billions of stars each it summed up in this little phrase he made the stars also isn't that interesting like as if it was so easy for God to just create all those and of course it was cuz he's gone he has unlimited potential unlimited power people say why would God waste all that space it's not a waste if you have unlimited power it's not a waste at all he glorifies him that's one of the purposes that God has for the stars is to bring him glory their way of showing his creatures how awesome he is and I don't know about you but for me it works yeah I'm convinced I'm persuaded that God is awesome but what about the basics of astronomy things that in the past people would have maybe said well the Bible got it wrong but today we'd have to agree the Bible got it right basics of astronomy that we would learn in any freshman level astronomy class even at a secular college you would learn about things like the spherical nature of the earth but you know the Bible talks about the spherical nature of the earth and isaiah 40:22 talks about the circle of the earth and you say well that might be a flat disk but I think that the job reference is hard to get around because it says that God inscribes a circle on the face of the waters that the boundary between light and darkness and that's that boundary is what astronomers call the Terminator where light stops or terminates on the earth and it's always a circle because the earth is spherical and it's on the waters because the earth is mostly earth surface is mostly water so it's a wonderful description of the spherical nature of our planet the interesting thing is if you look in most astronomy textbooks they they generally credit Pythagoras with being the first to come up with the idea that the earth might be round and Aristotle is usually considered the first to demonstrate that that is so from shadows of eclipses and so on but the interesting thing I find is that these passages in Scripture were written before the secular experts of the day figured that out isn't that interesting Isaiah's 700s BC job we think is around 2000 BC and as long before Pythagoras or Aristotle so as far as I can tell the Hebrews were writing about the true nature of the earth long before the secular scientists of the day figured it out isn't that interesting by the way the idea that Christopher Columbus was the first come up with the idea that the earth is round that's a myth people already knew the world was at the time of Columbus he just thought it'd be faster to go that way so it's uh it's it's almost as if the Hebrews here had a little divine insight isn't that interesting I think it's exactly what they had actually earth to suspend in space the Bible describes in Jim 26 verse 7 it poetically describes God hanging the earth upon nothing that's a wonderful description of the nature of gravity it really is and what better way to describe the earth isn't hanging on nothing but that would have been hard to believe at the time the verse was written 2000 BC even up to 800 to 900 BC there abouts the early Greek experts taught that the earth was a flat disc and floated in water and it wouldn't that make more sense I mean things float in water you can see that that's good observational science right it might have been hard for them to believe that the earth floats in space but it does and we got pictures confirming that today absolutely I just have to wonder do you suppose there were people you suppose there were Israelites that said well yes I know the Bible teaches that God hangs the earth on nothing but I don't know there's the best scientists that we know how to say it's a flat disk and floats in water I'm gonna reinterpret that section I don't know that that happened I'm just I just wonder if that happened because it certainly happens today doesn't it that kind of thinking happens today the expansion of the universe the Bible says that God stretches out the heavens as a curtain spreads them out as a tent to dwell in Isaiah chapter 40 chapter 40 verse 22 the same verse it talks about the circular earth and it's not obvious is it that the universe is being expanded or stretched out you go out tonight and look at the night sky it looks about the same size as it did last night it's not obvious but it wasn't until the 1920s that astronomers came along and confirmed that galaxies are basically all moving away from each other and it's a universal expansion I call it the Hubble law after one of the people who most heavily contributed to that again that's 1920s that that was discovered scientifically but the Bible records that type of thing in isaiah 40:22 and a number of other passages of violence scripture that talked about this expansion or spreading out of the heavens and some people have asked well does this mean that there was a big bang right because if everything's moving away each other if you run it back in time does everything go back to a point is it this expansion demonstrate that the universe exploded into existence 13 billion years ago the answer is no some of you are expanding that doesn't mean you exploded into existence billions of years ago yes when we leave today we will disperse and expand right but that doesn't mean that we were that we explode into existence that we were all in one spot exactly God apparently made the universe with size and he stretched it out since then for whatever reason he doesn't give us details and he's not required to well people would say but does this at least confirm the Big Bang because didn't the Big Bang predict that we should see an expanding universe and lo and behold we do and the answer is no because this expansion was discovered in the 1920s the Big Bang came along in 1931 the idea that the universe came from a point in 1931 as a materialistic explanation for this expansion you see it wasn't a prediction you could argue the Bible predicted it but not the Big Bang not at all conservation of energy and mass this one's a little more abstract but I do believe the Bible teaches this principle of physics whereby the amount of stuff in the universe is constant or even the amount of stuff an isolated system is constant we would expect that because the Bible says that all things were made by him that is by God by Christ and on the seventh day we know God ended his work of creation by the seventh day which means no new material can come into existence because it would mean that you either mean that God is still creating what you cannot because he ended his work or it would mean that stuff can come into existence apart from God which cannot be because all things were made by him and the so those two principles together indicate that no new material is going to just pop into existence and furthermore we would expect that nothing would cease to exist because God upholds what he has made and in him are buying him all things hold together or consist and so we'd expect that the amount of stuff in the universe is constant and those that those two principles combined the conservation of energy or conservation of mass they're well established very well established scientific principles Einstein realized that energy and mass really are the same thing just measured in two different ways but the amount of stuff in the universe is constant and there's a well-established law six James Joule is usually credited with the discovery of conservation of energy that's 1800s as far as I can tell the Bible was writing about this principle again God's not gonna use the the scientific jargon of our day because then it wouldn't have been understood until our day he's going to use the common language to illustrate the point but the point is correct isn't it when the Bible touches on science it's right because the Bible's the Word of God and God knows how the universe works he made it and he upholds it by the way does this preclude a creative miracle no God can God can do a miracle there's no problem there but this would be the general principle we would not expect new stuff to just arbitrarily pop into existence and we see this principle upheld in science uncountable numbers of stars the Bible describes Abraham's descendants by this uncountable metaphor as the stars of heaven and as the sandwiches upon the seashore a metaphor for an uncountable a humanly uncountable number we know God counts the number of stars and as a name for each one and it might have seemed like a mediocre analogy when it was first written in the scriptures when it was first written and first when people first looked at this because the number of stars you can see naked-eye is about three thousand stars much less in this area but you go to a really dark skies you can see about three thousand stars maybe ten thousand if you got superb vision and that's a big number but it's countable you could count to ten thousand it would be tedious but you could do it and then we invented telescopes and we pointed them up in that Milky Way that you see in the summer night skies from from dark locations that's made up of billions of stars so many that their light combines and it just looks like a milky mass but it's billions of stars we estimate there's at least a hundred billion stars in our galaxy you can't count to a hundred billion in your lifetime you cannot do it and so that's a great example of a humanly uncountable number it's a wonderful wonderful example a wonderful metaphor so my question is do you get the point have we learned the lesson of history have we learned that whenever the Bible touches on a topic it's right even when the secular scientists of the day disagree and some of us have learned that but unfortunately not all of us have learned that because you'll have scientists today that will say all no but here we think the Bible got it wrong and one of those issues is the age of the universe because we're taught if you go to the secular school system we're taught that the universe is billions of years old 13.8 billion years is the latest number and the Earth's supposed to be 4.5 billion years old and we're told that's what all the science indicates well those people haven't learned a lesson of history have they they haven't learned that if you disagree with the Bible eventually you're gonna have egg on your face that's just what it comes down to God has yet to lose an argument he knows how the universe works well I want to show you that even today there are many lines of evidence that confirm the biblical timescale of thousands of years we know that God created in six days we know there's our ordinary approximate 24-hour days from context evening and morning and so on and we know that human beings are made on the sixth day and from those genealogies that you just love to read before you go to bed and so and so we get so and so yeah add up the ages you get something like a few thousand years and maybe can't put an exact date on it but it would be something like six thousand years it certainly wouldn't be millions or billions of years and there's evidence that's consistent with that and I like to use this evidence again not to prove the Bible as if the Bible were a lesser standard that could be proved by science as a allegedly greater standard the Bible is the ultimate standard but it is interesting that the science confirms it it lines up with it let me show you some of these lines of evidence the excess internal heat of the giant planets Jupiter gives off twice as much energy as it receives from the Sun so it takes in one unit it gives off two takes in one more unit gives off - yeah I can't do that forever right you can't continue to spend away more than you take in right we're not the federal government after all we can't do that so Jupiter Jupiter eventually runs out of energy and if it were billions of years old it should have run down by now this is another analogy imagine taking a potato out of the microwave it's nice and warm it radiates that heat into space and it cools off as a result of that it doesn't take a potato very long to cool off now Jupiter has a much bigger potato and so it can do that for a lot longer I can do it for six thousand years it's ten times the diameter of the earth it's not a problem for six thousand years but it is a problem if it's 4.5 billion years old why hasn't it cooled off by now that's an issue the earth has that problem too but the secularists say oh but the earth has radioactive elements and they generate heat and they do but Jupiter doesn't have radioactivity it doesn't have those heavier elements it's made of the light stuff hydrogen and helium so how do you solve that problem huh prom is even worse for Neptune which gives off 2.7 times as much energy as it receives from the Sun so it's even when it's a smaller planet so it can't maintain it as long why is it still so warm if it's billions of years old and I want to suggest it's because it's not billions of years old the magnetic field of the earth the earth has a magnetic field it's caused by electrical current you can make a electromagnet by taking a coil of wire wrapping around touching it to a battery and that will make an electric field and that surrounds the earth and envelops us like a shield protects us from cosmic radiation protects us from radiation from the Sun even Sun doesn't have a whole lot of dangerous radiation but has enough that if the earth didn't have that magnetic field would be harmful for life but that magnetic field because it's caused by electricity is decaying batteries run down with time they just do that electric the electricity encounters resistance and it wears out and we've been able to measure this for over a century and a half and we know the magnetic field of the earth is simply dropping it's simply decaying now we think during the flood year there were lots of complicated factors that because the the tectonics and stuff where that would have disrupted Earth's magnetic field but in terms of the energy it's just been dropping since creation and you do the math and I've done the math and the Earth's magnetic field would have been 20 times stronger at creation pretty good you get extra protection from cosmic radiation and so on but if you run the equation back sixty billion six no sixty thousand years you run the equation back sixty thousand years that's all and the Earth's magnetic field would have been so strong it would have been stronger than a neutron star which has been enough to rip the atoms of your body apart and that's not good so look you can't even get millions ears out of this you can even get 60,000 years it's this is a really tight constraint on the age of the earth my secular colleagues are aware of this they're aware that the other planets of the solar system at least some of them have strong magnetic fields Jupiter's is enormous it Dwarfs Earth's magnetic field why is it so strong if this planet's billions of years old that's what I want to know or the planets Uranus and Neptune they have magnetic fields that's that are quite a bit stronger than what you would expect if they were billions of years old magnetic fields decay with time what's going on here well the answer is these planets are not billions years old the planet Uranus depicted here it actually rotates on its side so it rotates this way it rolls around the Sun and it's it's magnetic field is not aligned with the rotation axis is stuck in like a bar magnet so the magnetic field would wobble is the planet rotate this really must that little planet so and but the magnetic field is strong enough you can actually have aurora Northern Lights on on this planet that's actual Northern Lights right there and considering this is much further away from the Sun than Earth is that tells us something about the magnetic field there what's what I find very interesting is a colleague of mine dr. Russell Humphreys who is a creation physicist so he believes like I do that the Earth's a few thousand years old in the solar system he actually predicted the magnetic fields of the planets Uranus and Neptune before they were measured by the Voyager spacecraft he's got a model of how God might have set the initial magnetic field strength this is based on 6,000 years of decay it should be at this level and he says I expect when Voyager 2 measures it it'll be this level and the Voyager 2 went past it and it was at that level he was right the evolutionist were way off you see how real science has to start from the Bible if you're gonna get consistently the right answer you have to start from Scripture and of course Russ did that and he got the right answer and my evolutionary colleagues said well there's some kind of recharging mechanism they know the magnetic fields decay they know that but there must be some kind of recharging mechanism it's they call it a magnetic dynamo and they think it's kind of like the alternator in your car that takes a mechanical energy and turns it back into electrical energy but the alternator in your car is a pretty sophisticated piece of technology it's not something you'd expect that just a house or toughened naturally in nature and in they case they're dynamo models require the magnetic axis to be aligned with the rotation axis and it's not it's not even close for Uranus and Neptune is is similar so I think it's just evidence that the world's young we have the recession of the moon the moon is actually moving away from the earth due to tidal forces you might know that the moon stirs up tides on the earth and then it moves away from the earth as a result of those tidal forces as they react back on the moon and so it's sparked rolling away at a rate of about an inch and a half a year not very much and you run the equation backward and you have to run the equation backwards properly because the moon actually gets faster as it goes closer to the earth because the tidal bulges get get bigger and so it pulls it and even quicker now you do the math properly the earth-moon system can't be more than 1.4 to 1.5 billion years old which sounds like a lot but the evolutionists believe that the earth-moon system is 4.5 billion years old did you see can't be because they collide before that happens and that's not good so that's just not gonna work or comets which orbit the Sun in elliptical paths so they go pretty far out and they zip is it is it close to the Sun and get whiplash back out and so on and when you see a comet every time you see a comment it's in the process of disintegrating that's what the comet's tail is it's material being blasted away from the nucleus of the comment by solar heat and radiation streaming out into space comets cannot last more that typical comet can't last more than a hundred thousand years maximum before it totally runs out of material so why we still have comets and again my secular colleagues have said well and they can do the same math I can do they know that a comet can't last that long and so I've said well there must be some source of new comets which they call the Oort cloud if you've heard of the Oort cloud that's basically a big undetectable comet generator it's not been observed it can't be observed conveniently and the idea is there's a swarm of potential comets out beyond Neptune way beyond Neptune and every now and then one of them is thrown into the solar system becomes a brand-new comet pretty clever so as the old ones disintegrate new ones replace them but there's no evidence of an Oort cloud as far as I can tell it's just a rescuing device to help the evolutionists to be able to sweep away this particular line of evidence spiral galaxies rotate differentially meaning the inner portions rotate at a faster angular velocity than the outer portions so the the inner stars take less time to make a circuit the outer stars take more time to make a circuit which means that spiral structure is constantly twisting tighter and tighter and tighter and it can't last tens of billions of years galaxies in the second review are supposed to be on the order of 10 billion years old well I went through and measured the velocities of some of these things these are these are well-established and I ran some computer simulations to see how fast it would take for a spiral galaxy to wrap up in less than 1 billion years it was totally wrapped beyond recognition you can't even get anywhere close to the 10 billion years they think they need to to get evolution to happen and so on so you see spiral galaxies are an indication of the youth of the universe for that matter even the arms these are the arms these spiral galaxies which have a higher proportion of blue stars blue stars cannot last billions of years the hottest bluest stars can't even last more than like a million years because they they're so luminous they expend their fuel so quickly now they're the most massive stars these blue ones are but they are very luminous they expend their fuel quickly they're kind of like the SUV of the star world ok they have a big gas tank but they get very poor gas mileage and so they can't go very far in time and the fact that we find blue stars isn't indicated we find them in all sorts of galaxies that tells me those galaxies aren't even a few millions of years old he said well new blue stars have formed where we haven't seen any star form ever you'll find that in the textbooks but not in the real universe we just don't see that happening you can't point your telescope anywhere and see a star forming it doesn't happen as far as we know gas wants to expand it as only just collapsing on itself the uniqueness of the earth the Bible describes the earth as being a unique planet and that it's designed to be inhabited isaiah 45:18 god formed the earth he made it he established it he did not create a waste place but formed it to be inhabited the earth is designed for life and in fact to show it's special significance God made it three days earlier than anything else in the universe do as that or its main on day one everything else is made on day four kind of interesting it's special its unique it's designed for life the other worlds of the solar system the moon it's a magnificent desolation but it's not designed for life oh it's beautiful on its own way don't get me wrong it's stunning it's fun to look at but one of the astronauts who walked on its surface called it a magnificent desolation I think it's a great description of it not designed for life other planets of the solar system yet Venus that's the larger one there it's about the same size as the earth and that's where the similarity ends because it's got a surface temperature of over 900 degrees Fahrenheit you would not want to vacation there those clouds that you see they're beautiful looking at it from Earth they're beautiful but those are made of sulfuric acid type compounds there's lots of wonderful ways to die on Venus this is just you say well why would God you know make it out of all that toxic gas and high temperatures well we're not supposed to live there right it's not designed for life or it's designed for life venus is designed to be beautiful and it is it's the evening starts the third brightest object in our sky got the Sun the Moon Venus beautiful beautiful then you got Mars a little further out from the Sun than Earth is and it's bitter cold and it doesn't have the right kind of atmosphere for life it's poisonous carbon dioxide atmosphere and in that concentration and it doesn't have the global sort of magnetic field of the earth has beautiful world's not designed for life it's kind of like Goldilocks on three bears right you got these ones too hot that one's too cold that one's just right yeah that's what we'd expect and a super naturally designed universe and I think I'm gonna have to wrap it up here because we are we're just behind on time I'll just end with this I'll just point out that from a secular perspective you'd expect that you'd find life all in all sorts of places in space right because I mean life evolved here it probably evolved elsewhere - that's the secular idea but it's actually a paradox because in the in the second reviewed expect to find life everywhere out there and we don't we don't find life out there in space a lot of these programs that are funded you know that it NASA engages in and so on they're there their purpose is to find life I'm glad the programs are there because they end up confirming creation anyway you see but the motivation a lot of times is to find extraterrestrial life because that would vindicate the evolutionary mindset but I don't expect to find ETS out in space and so far we have it and that confirms my creationary worldview that God really did form the earth to be inhabited for times sake and when I have to skip the Starlight issue but we do have resources on it that I'll point you to the bottom line of that is it is possible with known physics to get light from those galaxies to earth and a few thousand years it's not in fact you can do it instantaneously within known physics and Einstein understood that and he wrote about that type of phenomenon and again I wish I had time to cover that in detail but you'll just have to get the books on that or they the DVD that I've done I have a DVD on this presentation where I had just a little more time and I was able to cover that in depth so you might wanna take a look at that as well astronomy reveals creation and so by the way even if we didn't understand how God got the light here that went that really shouldn't be a stumbling block for any Christian should it because there are lots of things that God does that we can't understand we're never gonna know the scientific details of the Resurrection because that's beyond the ability of science to study it happens I think this is a star lights not in that category but even if it were it really wouldn't be a problem for the Christian faith the kinds of things that I talked about today are covered in my book taking back astronomy and that is a just a wonderful apologetic resource that's going to show you how the universe declares God's glory I think almost everything I covered is and is in that book so you want to get that and it's it's for you it's for adults some people have bought that it's a children's book because it's got lots of pretty pictures in it but my theory is adults like pictures too so there you go and I think that's one of the way the University Claire's God's glory is by the beauty of it we have the stargazers guide to the night sky this is not an apologetics book it's a book on how to enjoy the night sky from a Christian perspective and so it doesn't have all that evolutionary garbage in it like you get in a lot of these other books this is just a book on how to enjoy the night sky and you say I don't have a telescope or that's okay there's lots of stuff you can see naked eye it tells you what the constellations are it's got full-color star charts and so on if you're thinking about getting a telescope you'll tell you what kind you might want to get if you have binoculars there's a lot of stuff you can see in binoculars you see Saturn's rings and binoculars they're small but you can see him you just have to know which ones Saturn that's where the book helps you heard you to get that we have DVDs we have like get like I said this presentations on DVD if you'd like to grab that we have the created cosmos that's a journey through the solar system this is the planetarium show that I wrote for the Creation Museum in Kentucky and it's it's it's one of the things that I'm most proud of I think it turned out really well and it just it just take a tour of the universe and see how it declares God's glory and it takes you all the way out to the farthest regions of space that that we've been able to observe so far all from a Christian perspective the ultimate proof of creation this is a little different topic but if you if you say well want one argument that's just bulletproof that really gives a powerful defense of the Christian worldview this is it this is going to show you how to think and defend the faith the way that Jesus did in his earthly ministry and Jesus was very very good at defending the Christian faith he was not the sort of person you wanted to debate against and this book explores why that is the types of arguments that he's using and so on discerning truth how to spot errors in evolutionary thinking that's valuable evolutionists make mistakes and reasoning left and right and we let them get away with it we really shouldn't and then creation basics there's two different versions of this book this is the student version we have here it's called guide to creation basics and then the adult version that most of you will want to get is called creation basics and beyond so most of you will want to get the Beyond version because that gives you a little more references and things that you can support it but this is basically everything that you need to know about biblical creation to defend it well it's written in the layman level yes you're gonna understand it but it has enough it has enough references you can back up those those what you present so that's a really great resource that I wouldn't highly encourage you to get we do have acts and facts if you're not already getting ax in fact I need to repent of that sin and sign up on the newsletter right here because this is a free resource and so there's no catch here we're able to do that because of our generous donors and so I would encourage you to very much to get that check us out on the web as well I see our dot org is our main web site if we run out of resources on the tables you can get them here however you should get them here first because you don't have to pay on shipping and then we don't have to pay on shipping so that that helps and check us out as well we have a student ministry your origins matter and the students can get on there and interact with each other and so on and so that's a great resource I'd encourage you to check out I will go back to the tables the ICR tables are on the sort of the right side of the building and I'll be back there and if any of you'd like me to sign the books or something like that I'd be very happy to do that thank you very much for having me out to speak I really appreciate it
