public school private school i went to a public magnet school i went to a very large public school private school i went to private school i went to public school private high school lab school so it's public but you had to apply to get it i went to public school went to public school for two years and then i went to private school for my junior and senior year i went to a private british school i went to private school public private school i went to private school i went to public school i went to private but i was on scholarship private high school gpa i think it was a 4.93 out of 5.0 i was co-valedictorian along with one of my friends i think it was like a 4.4 it was like weighted i think it was 4.7 i'm not entirely sure our gpu system was like a mess because we barely used it so we had to calculate like for ourselves on weight it was 4.0 weighted was like 4.7 something 4.0 unweighted gpa and a 4.8 ish weighted gpa i had a 4.0 it was out of four i think it was 3.8 3.9 something 3.96 or something my gpa was four but uh my school definitely had great inflation like a third of my class out of four it was a four five eight out of five or a three nine five out of four i don't really remember my gpa because yeah i went to two different schools and they're both on weird scales i did not have one my gpa was 3.8 out of 4 unweighted and like 4.5 waited see they like didn't really tell me that in my high school but like it was up there did you even have gpa probably not well i can say my iv prediction yeah i'd be pretty 44. i went from like a 300 to a three seven three nine it was in between them my gpa my weighted gpa was four point six three four point six four i don't remember my own weight 3.97 i did the ib so i was predicted 44 out of 45. damn what was your sat or a ct score i took the sat i preferred it over the act and i got a 15 30. i think i got a 35 on the act i don't remember what i got on that 18. i did sat what i will say is that it was above the average but i don't want to say the score because i don't really think it matters around 500 and above that's the ball fall yeah you're fine but don't stress over that it's a tease like 15 20 sat 15 40. i decided to take the s.a.t six times and every single time got that was literally me i believe i would drive to the place and it would get canceled and i didn't study for the week before it was so bad i got a 1500 i did the act and i got a 33 or 34. my sat was a 1410. i did both i got a 1590 on the sat and 36. i took the sat and i got a 1580. i got a 35 in the act i took the sat and i got a really good score on it but i think it definitely helped me like i don't think i can say that it didn't but it really doesn't matter if you don't take it a lot of people didn't i got a 1540 in the sat i took the sat and i got a 1580. i took the sac but uh we're not doing the score thing we're not doing it didn't do 33. i did not set my sat i got a 36 on my ac team act 34. i took the sat and i got a 15 20. what were one or two extracurriculars you did i was in the california association of student councils it's not a formal club it's just a student organization type of thing and i was also the founder of a website called curious.com where we compiled a bunch of resources to help students applying to college because a bunch of our teachers and counselors were laid off because our district wasn't dead i was on my school newspaper and then i also played violin i write poetry and i also did research honestly most of my application was based off of the activities i took part in like my gap year i started several retirement organizations and then i was teaching some children in my local school most of my essay was almost gathered in gapier i was editor of my school newspaper that was like my main thing and i did a lot of stuff with viola outside of school i played on the jamaica under 17 national team for soccer and then i worked with tedx youth at seattle like coaching ted talk let's go so one extracurricular that i did was i led my school's dance club and choreographed dances at my school other than that i did volunteering all throughout high school where i taught and uplifted children with cancer i interned for an author and i did singing i did field hockey and mini-thon i did a ton of violin stuff i did like the typical nerdy stuff like science olympiad math club i worked in research at the university of illinois like i did some stuff for a project where we were like figuring out whether online learning was uh good so that was like statistic stuff i also enjoy uh predicting uh elections i actually have a website drop the website oh my god we're dropping the website down right here right here if she's gonna edit it i'm good at editing what yes i did track and field which is where you run i run the hundred two hundred three hundred four hundred uh 500 you're a very professional interviewer and that is most of what i did i was also like a class leader and stuff like that i was really interested in working with affinity spaces at my school especially like asian or women affinity spaces and then also i did a bunch of like projects with like my local history organization my main one was the piano i worked at a tech startup and i did some research and a few summer programs too so like a good mix i was in the juilliard for college and that was like kind of the main thing i was a writing tutor i worked at the literary magazine high school student body and sustainability president vice president well i did football i did model uh i did lacrosse i was in wrestling i became the captain of the wrestling team i went to two extracurricular so i did cancer research here at yale hematology and i was pretty involved in latin american rights associations here in new haven okay my biggest one i was part of the student diversity leadership council at my school and basically like our school had like very obsolete diversity stuff so like we helped like implement affinity groups and like it was a primarily white institution so we just kind of like made like you know different ethnicities known and then i also did a lot of campaigning i worked with the leukemia and lymphoma society because like my uncle died of leukemia so i was like i need to do something for him and then like that just like spirals into like different kinds of campaigning like political and stuff like that that's so cool varsity swimming for all four years of high school and i also did varsity orchestra there's like the lower tier orchestra and like the good orchestra oh okay yeah this violin isn't running no she's no definitely i practice 40 hours a day for sure how do you think you got into you honestly i was really close to the teachers i asked for my letters of recommendation and i believe they wrote amazing letters for me me and my interviewer kinda vibed for the interview i made sure to stalk all his social media anyways um apparently he also did a lot of social work like just like me and were able to relate to each other it felt more like a conversation rather than an interview so i believe he wrote nice things about me i think just having like clear interest and like what you would be involved in and be able to show them like how you would function on campus and like get involved at yale i think my essays like helped show that i frame my essays around the idea that i want to do both writing and science so i said i wanted to be a poet physician know what your niche is and then own it how do you think you got in lastly because i'm skinny i fit a certain niche that they were looking for east african demographic or at least the kenyan demographic i think that kind of helped mostly because of the extracurriculars i think my essays probably because i spent a lot of time on essays i feel like my writing was like my big reason as to why with my extracurriculars i showed that i go beyond the surface level and i really dedicated time to develop my extracurriculars and i just showed what's important to me what i'm passionate about and why i love yale and why i should come here yes sir i'm not sure probably because i did a lot of stuff about learning chinese and whatever i don't know i took a lot of ap classes probably like my art portfolios yeah it really did pop off right there that building right there my grandfather my grandfather built that psych i think i got into yale because i was able to show about how much like i'm passionate about learning on my application because i just wrote about how much i love numbers in my common app so i'm a recruited athlete so i am good at running and i also got good grades so so thank you with the questions yes yeah no i wanted to change my answer from previously because i think one of the big reasons is the private school i transferred to big theater school and not to say that like the students who get in like don't get in with merit but definitely like the opportunities that they give you there are completely different from public school like transferring was so crazy and then also just like with the application i thought i wrote out like very specific things that i wanted to do at yale and my application was pretty cohesive with that goal for my essays i wrote about like very specific programs or like things that i want to do at yale that were like specific to yale for example like the digital humanities lab and yeah like my application was very based around that because i play the piano because college was my singular focus for like six months of my life so because of the music thing 100 because the music thing i know i know how to do one thing and it is play music and that's what i'm hearing he's really good okay we're not doing that there's a lot of factors and i have absolutely no clue i think i got in because my teacher wrecks were fantastic i assume and my essays i put like my heart and soul into my essays well i think like the teacher who wrote one of my recommendations was like she was like basically like a mother figure to me so she knew me really well and she just like really put that in the application ivory coast it's giving it's giving diversity thank you guys so much for watching let us know if you want a part two and make sure you like comment subscribe we'll see you in
