[Music] what's up guys welcome back to another video this is striving students as you can see we are out here on harvard campus we're actually just going to be going up to a bunch of random people and just interviewing them about like uh what they think got them into college and yeah that's pretty much it it's going to be pretty awesome make sure to subscribe smash that like button and yeah let's get into the video hey what's up i think i know you're from somewhere you look a little familiar yeah yeah so you're you go to harvard here i think i do you do you have uh can you share your like uh gp sct if you're comfortable with that yeah so i had a 36 on my act and a 4.69 weighted gpa and a 4.0 unweighted gpa dang that's crazy all right okay thank you so much for this interview uh if you could just share like uh which high school and which area you came from and if you're comfortable like what you got on your sct act or like gpa stuff like that yeah so um i went to papillion la vista south high school um in nebraska um and my gpa in high school was a 4.491 and my act was at 33. whoa that's awesome thank you so much for sharing that could you guys just share like maybe your set gta or extracurriculars or what you think is important to getting into harvard as a high schooler um i got my gpa was like a 4.76 and i got a 1570 on the s.a.t high school i played sports i was i started like two different clubs and i was a member of a couple others and i think the reason why i got into harvard because of my essays it's really really important to stand out in your essays start them in unique ways and remember that everyone else is trying to be different too so you have to stand out [Music] uh i had a four point like eight four point eight five something like that uh i had a 34 on the act i didn't take the sac um i for extracurriculars i did chess um and a few varsity sports and some other clubs i would say the most important part of like your application is trying to build like kind of like a narrative with like who you are as a person like everything in your application i feel like should like add up to reflect who you are like in your essays and like your extracurriculars and even down to like the classes you take like that can show interests and different things sometimes so just trying to like build a narrative of what you want the college to know about you when you apply [Music] um my stats are not that impressive it's a height of four four four four but we're in ib school um i was 15 20 s.a.t but i think uh what really got me to harvard so for my last for my last two years of high school uh i was my robotics team was ranked top 10 in the world um so i think that was my big thing i was also an all-state musician in my sophomore year but yeah um i think like the most important thing is like you just need to find something that you really like doing in high school and i think like take that to like a really high level and then show that in your harvard application because i think what they're really looking for they're looking for people who are able to like succeed and able to you know uh compete and work at like impressive levels um and i know at least that's my view on it i could be totally wrong you know um but i think uh i think that's a good way to look at it because what they're trying to do here is i think like kind of refine those skills and like you know trying to push you into uh jobs and careers later on that are gonna be very similar to that so yeah thank you guys so much yeah no problem if you guys can like maybe share your name like what school or like what area you come from and uh if you can share maybe some stats if you're comfortable with like maybe your gpa or your class rank or or sat act or extracurriculars essays whatever you think like helped you get into this entire world okay so my name is richard uh i'm not from here i am an international student i'm from lafayette and from my high school i did the ib program which is really nice it's very international i was all in english so uh yeah my predicted score was 43 i got a 45 at the end um as for my extracurriculars i did a lot of writing um a lot of writing a lot of volunteering a lot of involvement in politics and activism which i think helped a lot because i crafted my narrative around my essays around my extracurriculars and what i did professionally i didn't take the act and i didn't take the sat i went test optional for my cycle um so i don't think that mattered that much i was more of a narrative kid than the stat that's kid so i don't think the stats mattered for me that much hi my name's sammy i'm from kansas um for my extracurriculars i did a lot of similar to richards i did a lot of political activism and like worked with different nonprofits i had my own freelance graphic design business that i do um and i did journalism in high school um student council things like that um as far as like stats go my stats were definitely like not the highest in my school and migraine whatsoever i think my super score on like the act was like a 32 and then i took some eight ap exams and then my gpa i think was like a 3.9 something like that um and then as far as like what i wrote my essays about my main essay was about kind of like my background in my life and like you know kind of like some barriers that i had and overcame through my family and things like that and then my second essay was mainly about political activism and like you know how i became politically involved and like um what i'm passionate about there so i think you know as long as you do um you know whatever you're passionate about and excel in that and just follow like your heart and like be honest in your essays um i think that's good yeah um hi i'm jovin i'm also international so i'm from singapore um really i just feel like getting into colleges like like harvard or the out of the ivs it's it's like academic tinder it's like yeah it's about it's all about the match about whether you're lucky enough to get here and i think it just worked out for me i guess academically speaking i come from singapore so we do the a-levels it's similar to the british system um so there's that um yeah i also did a lot of things similar to richards and um to sammy so a lot of writing i did a lot of community service and i think i was just really interested in seeing how being at harvard could help me contribute to the society as well as back in singapore and asia yeah all right guys so that's been the video we interviewed a bunch of students who go to harvard it was a super amazing experience you know as you can see we're at this amazing place most of the students were pretty friendly and stuff you know be willing to interview so it's a pretty awesome campus uh but yeah that's pretty much been the video if you guys did enjoy be sure to go down smash that like button if you haven't already be sure to subscribe for more amazing college like interviews and stuff like that videos uh like this one the first guy in the video i'm actually gonna be dropping another video with a full in-depth interview with him and another person
