what's up guys the gals and welcome back to the nerd castle my name is flatter CAD today in the world of indie games were to be checking out artificial extinction a military styled shortly in the future not a far future game but you know just around the corner future game where you play a guy setting up a mining camp on foreign planets where everything AI is trying to kill you it's been a very very hot season for tower defense games as you can obviously tell and this one is the next one up on the block I've worked I've watched about the first hour of gameplay for this one and honestly I feel like this one added up to be more than the sum of its components there are some things that are a little bit awkward or clunky about the initial perception of the game but by and large I actually found myself really kind of watching the videos on it because the battles end up being very very explosive and very cool to look at and the way that the enemies fly around and that they move is very sort of satisfying and so we're gonna check it out for ourselves here today and see if it's something that you wanted to add to your wish list or not let's dive on in alright so play on normal mode that's cool I like normal mode the great danger of AI is that people think that they understand it all systems stable heat shield intact fuel 6% extending dampers now turbulence will pass in 15 seconds please remain in your seat analyzing atmosphere oxygen 19 percent nitrogen 81 percent 28 degrees Celsius just like home detecting high levels of radiation abnormal volcanic activity multiple heat signatures in all directions are interfering with our radars it's critical that our landing zone has all three resources that we need fuel metal and energy scanning for resources fuel level critical we need to land now scanning resources detected terrain acceptable designating landing zone calculating landing trajectory adjusting flight path remember the first five minutes on the planet are critical this will be a touch-and-go landing the ship will remain at a low energy orbit above us the first thing you need to do is start collecting fuel for the ship I will guide you I am detecting multiple encrypted communication signals in the area they are repeating over and over I believe these signals are trying to detect new arrivals like us we are not alone be careful I've got your six I'm initializing your heads-up display now life support online navigation system online telemetry online resource management online weapon systems online health monitor online the safest place for our ship is in a low-energy orbit above us once we collect enough fuel I will call the ship to come and pick us up alright well I think the fuel supplies over here mind the fuel deposit and start collecting fuel fuel is marked in red on the map move to the fuel deposit all right so here's our fuel deposit now open your construction menu and build a miner alright so we've got a miner and then we can choose where we kind of want to put this is it working I like animove and will reaches 100 area perfect we will have enough fuel to travel to a safer location on the planet only one miner can work at a time on a fuel deposit next we need to put a mine around the metal to wrap it and start collecting metal metal is marked in white on the map move to the metal deposit let's go get some metal then I'm down with the metal struggle and then you wouldn't I recommend you build two metal miners you can put up to five metal miners on this resource but use your metal carefully at the beginning it's your choice next we need to put a miner on the energy deposit and start collecting energy energy is marked in blue on the map move to the energy deposit oh so it's like all the way over here this is actually like advanced a bit further than all the other deposits all right good now open your construction menu and build a miner place the miner on the energy deposit remember we need metal to build weapons energy to power them and fuel to be able to escape the next thing we need to do is build a sniper sentry weapon to defend miners as they work a good spot for a century weapon would have a clear line-of-sight facing a vulnerable direction choose a spot open your control menu and build a sniper sentry this seems like a pretty good spot to put a sniper turret if I think so myself let's go ahead and we'll do the the snipers sentry over here for sentry weapons system is designed for long-range armored ground targets it fires a 50 caliber armor-piercing explosive round at 800 meters per second full of penetrating two inches of steel it has an advanced auto targeting system that accounts for target movement during bullet flight time resulting in an accuracy rate of 95 percent it fires one round every three seconds you can pick up sentries and other items and move them around all right well that's probably what I'll do if we'll do little damage against armored targets build for more sniper sentry guns in place than marabous build one more energy miner get to work okay so I need a bunch more snipers like I feel like these are pretty good on this little spot right here like I'm fairly happy with this little hillock right here I don't know if we're gonna need something else like this right here has definitely going across right there so I don't feel like it's a good spot for it but then again I prefer to kind of keep these somewhat close to each other as well yeah let's go with one right here there we go so we've got our sniper sentries down we need like one more we lost a little bit of energy right there and we've lost a little bit of metal my thinking is I hope that I can stack these up on the energy miner over here that would be really really helpful can I get another one over here let's go with a miner and I wanted to see you should switch depending upon the targets range all right so we've got ourselves enough stuff to kind of chill for a minute how much does the sniper Century actually cost like that's the part that I'm running into right now is like what does this actually cost me I would like to see it so when you're on the crafting menu when you mouse over this it should be some kind of pop up or like another window over here on the side that tells you what you're spending on these because I don't seem to be singing oh why did you turn red why are you turning red right now sensors have detected a dormant terraforming robot 1000 meters to the north I don't know if it's hostile or not but it's time we studied it I am able to take control of your heads-up display and display images to you transmitting to your heads-up display now originally designed for the military this arachnid class tank has an operating weight of 22 tons steel and uranium armor plates infrared radiometer optics autonomous navigation system and is powered by a thorium fuel cell it has been adapted into a multi-function role to assist colonists with scientific research transporting ground assets heavy lift and tunneling it still has its military-grade weaponry meant for colonists protection these tanks are tough and smart I can't tell if it's hostile while it's dormant hold on it is booting it has detected me it's trying to gain access to our systems complete is hostile commencing cyberattack I am trying to shut it down I can't triggering emergency fire it has begun a cyber attack it has breached our firewall botnets have been uploaded polymorphic virus detected undetected I can't stop it it is downloading everything shutting down power to all digital communication boards switching to analog Tom's only successful they are disconnected restoring all files repairing damaged files rebooting back online unrepairable damage minimal we cannot win a cyber war against them they are far superior our only strategy must be kinetic warfare all right well let's get kinetic bin for sniper sentries try building three more enemy advancing towards us from the north enemy eta and 60 seconds so each of these costs 10 they are all alright you must stop them or everyone will die this is not an exercise and disengaging all firing safeties live ammo levels full lethal force is authorized enemy eta in 30 seconds I would like you to be rotated ever so slightly there we go positions all better formations use the terrain to your advantage listen a I hit a robot killing field if you were going to survive you are making me feel very very pessimistic right now man centuries how about a little optimism centuries more of a threat than you are I am starting my battlefield analysis algorithm just playing our defensive strength on your pod now and build and repair as many centuries is intend to keep this indicator in blue all right so we've got a whole bunch of turrets down right now we've also got a big battle map it appears as though Oh our ship is overhead up there interesting how you doing little buddy you want to come down here and help me out with some dock at dock man it might be a little helpful I wouldn't be against it they said I could get five miners over here I really feel like I should probably get these built about as soon as possible like I know they're expensive but oh my god we've got laser fire coming in yep so the battle is commenced we got some shots going out right now looks like he's taking a little bit of damage he's definitely taking some he 25% good job good we've killed our first one there are many more coming keep working it's a good little explosion right there I appreciate the the explosions I can instruct me to repair any damaged items for you by opening your construction menu and choosing repair you can also repair deactivate or recycle items yourself when close to an item opening all right I got a bad feeling they're still coming yep they're over there alright maybe don't stand in front of the dester it might be a bad idea I need you to rotate slightly and fire in that direction please that's right I'm asking you to fire in that direction as rapidly as possible we don't have a whole lot of energy left however we do have a lot of metal let's go with another miner we'll plop it down right there on the energy field I'm trying to future-proof apparently I can help out oh hey hey all right well the chunks just flew everywhere so I feel like we did an okay job turrets you feeling good about your job right now you guys all feeling satisfied let's get nice and frosty is about to get a little bit hectic all right well let's take our time then one step at a time so we've got metal coming on in we've got a few more contacts over there I don't know if it's worth it like what else can I do so we've got claymores we've got repair yeah go for it if anything's taking damage like get that HP restored we've got a few more coming in from this direction to an incoming air target I was afraid of this I am surprised how quickly they are trying to adapt our sniper sentries are not designed for air targets watch out I don't know if these drones are weaponized oh wow there's a button oh there's one that's just me with the sneeze marks on my screen never mind I don't have anything I can do just yet I suppose what's that - keep an eye on that guy give me another sniper century right here there you go perfect I need to see some serious gunfire out here it appears the drones are not weaponized but they are distracting our sentries from the tanks they are trying to sacrifice small drones and confuse our targeting system we must also adapt I am designing an anti-aircraft sentry down there a couple of minutes all right in there use your rifle and try and shoot down some drones all right I will do the best that oh yeah look at that they're aiming up at the sky right now at the little drone guys he's moving kind of quick he's kind of speedy I don't know if I want to waste ammo on him yeah we probably need to get some AAA up and running let's go ahead and I will put down an AAA like right there into your front century weapons system will target any airborne threats including drones bombs mortars and business the targeting system predicts the threats flight path prioritizes targets activates a warning system and computes a firing solution autonomously it fired I self-destructing tungsten rounds per second at 700 meters per second it's burst fire spread intentionally increases target impact success rate stand clear of these centuries when they're operating for your own safety all right give me another one over here and then give me another one over here you see what I mean the battles actually get kind of impressive pretty quickly I love the way the anti-aircraft guns when they miss you can see the flak explosion like way up in the sky like this game gets hectic and like the explosives and like the death animations of a lot of the robots and whatnot are really really good like I actually really really like the way that they've handled the combat in this game and so well the first-person perspective of like your rifleman inmate and whatnot may not be the best design and it may not look the most fluid or human the other mechanics like killing robots and like actually getting into gunfights and stuff like that work out pretty well the lighting effects really sort of sell the damage that you're dealing to these robots along the way let's go ahead and I need to reload it I think I've taken a hit the guys got smacked in madam ER we've only got 40 fuel we got to get a hundred to get out of here aah hurts I don't know if you actually want to like do what you do out here but I'd appreciate it if you'd like kill them off that'd be great man I see a an awful lot of drones flying around and I don't think that I'm really equipped to get rid of them in all honesty oh no they are trying to flank us they are too close the ICM detected headache 1:06 degrees our sniper sentries won't have enough time to destroy them before they reach us I am designing a new centric to counter their strategy it will be ready in 10 seconds design faster it's kind of hard to lead those guys my bullet velocity is so slim I'm gonna help him out with this because it feels kind of deadly the machine gun century weapon system is designed for short range targets and irate admirers it fires five incendiary armor-piercing round per second and five round bursts it's effective ranges on a 100 years of course borders during the route of the cover of longer-ranged offenses places strategically they were extremely effective all right I can also set up claymores I'll put a claim or two on this hill as well just to make sure if they make the run like right when they clear over this is actually a really good spot to bang the treads off a tank right here so we'll put down a claymore how do I put down the claymores I may have bought too many claymores oh he coming run turrets all appear to be in decent shape man battle is getting crazy out here another sniper century like right there repairing and building more centuries oh you're in big trouble long-range sensors have detected a massive wave of enemies coming I estimate our chances of survival with our current defenses six percent more powerful come on there we go I think we have plenty of metal I think I need more miners on my energy supply let's go ahead and we'll reinforce right here I think we are gonna need it so there's two more of those just to help out we haven't lost any turrets or anything have we our turrets appear to be okay they want me to build the mlrs so we're gonna go ahead and do that there's our mlrs right there 9 kilogram thermobaric explosive warhead which creates a pressure wave upon detonation to destroy its target the laser-guided missiles have a range of 1000 meters and fires one this one per second once the 48 misses are fired all right put out a few more snipers here I feel like we've got a really really good row going right now we might be able to use a little bit more anti-aircraft to just kind of avoid getting overwhelmed go ahead little machine gun do what you're gonna do I believe in you little guy I believe in you I can also upgrade stuff - yeah its upgrade this guy now he's got like a little look he's got like a little missile launcher yeah 20 seconds debate the missile system go to the back of the launcher and press the control menu ten seconds maybe estimate I'm gonna upgrade these all right let's activate the mlrs activate there we go oh it's firing missiles all right that's what I'm talking about right there put some missiles in the sky boy there they go yup oh we got impacts hitting now it's a bad day to be an AI let me tell you what whose planet is this splat YZ planet that's whose planet it is you get upgraded please there you go I believe in you little turrets you can do this you're both gods you're both beautiful sexy gods I need repairs on any turrets that are damaged like right now the mlrs appears to be pushing them back and so we've got like a very brief moment right now where we can kind of upgrade and we can catch our breath all right we're out of metal for right now I may be able to go snipe some out of the field over here it looks like there's a lot of metal laying around I'm gonna go for it I think the mlrs is going to protect us while we're doing this I expect to see a missile fly overhead at any moment there it goes for the next three minutes let's get our centuries repaired built into position as you think is best yep I'm actually more interested in all this free metal down here I think we should be able to snipe a couple of upgrades if I can just pick up some of these robot parts they're a little bit overly extended from where I'd like to be your training on the construction menu I'm sure you realized you can build ammunition and I have just designed a type of claymore mine that should help defend our position I have programmed these claymore mines to only be detonated by the enemy tanks but the blast would kill you so be very careful I have noticed the enemies are not targeting you they are focusing all their energy on our sentries you should be able to sneak up towards the enemy tanks and lay mines in their paths perhaps you could make a defensive perimeter in case they get too close all right um how do I lay down the Claymore oh it's like that okay all right we'll put one down right there I'm just gonna mine all these little areas over here where we have no line of sight because when they make it over this hill it causes problems for me so put down some claymores out there hopefully these don't trigger each other when they run into them that would be really really inconvenient I'd like to put some claymores up here too just to knock out a couple of these tanks just in case they make a solid push from this direction which I really feel like is our I am analyzing all our options I am checking the ship's energy levels yes I have a solution the mlrs has not had enough time to recharge we can't use it I can call the ship for air support it has enough energy for one airstrike per day if the ship is for high power cannons with self-correcting motion predictive targeting call in an airstrike in five seconds four three two one I hear strike yeah Huk is descending for an air strike and calculating attack vector designated targets beginning target run keep your head down centrally upgraded to armor-piercing rounds just keep upgrading I don't think they've quite made it to the front of where my cannons are yet or I'm sorry my claymores I'm feeling pretty good about what we got setup right now oh my goodness this man came in with the gunship yeah that's the stuff right there get them aah you thought you were gonna roll up on me and nothing was gonna happen but I called in the chopper I called in that boot yup you don't want none a sound so dope you can only emulate it you can't even say what it is that was a the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life I now desperately wish that I could call in an attack chopper gunship in real life whenever I have problems let's see here you upgrade thirty unit stuff great okay we'll try to save up for a little bit but I basically maxed out all my points right now we're looking pretty good we've still got twenty five energy left to go so I assumed what this is gonna get pretty haywire before we're gonna be able to do too much more it looks like I can buy ammo what does ammo cost Oh forty metal okay I mean the gunships still holding them back pretty good like we're not even really having to worry about doing anything like our gunships essentially just wasting them cool perimeter breached ground target detected heading to I'm gonna put in on the other side okay quickly move some centuries to defend us lay some claymores yeah I'm gonna lay that down right there I'm gonna put down a claymore right here we'll put down like a claymore right there I've got the gun century so we should be okay I'm gonna do another one to save me gun century save my flaky bits my flank II bits are so soft and tender and exposed right now there you go there you go there you go all right let's upgrade these guys I wonder if it'll make the Claymore yeah there it goes the Claymore got him nice I'll take it we'll go over here we'll put down another one that guy's gonna aggro me so I need to get out of the way let's see if I can grab some of this metal to just as a supplement yup I'll just kind of like throw claymores around over here I've got so many of them because I overbought him when I was trying to figure out how to use them so I might as well little sky drones appear to be getting shot down pretty rapidly alright let's upgrade some of these dudes oh nice so they get a double double fire rate when you take them up to level 3 hell yeah there we go keep firing keep firing keep firing we're almost out of here we got like 17 fuel left to go that's it and then we're out of this thing machine gun turrets don't you fail me now don't you fail me now gun turrets one of my snipers is taking some damage and send the drone over to repair it real fast this thing ready to rock again I'm just gonna recycle it those explosions and lighting effects though they look so good and like the bullet trajectories and like the way the battle feel like you're in like some kind of epic Star Wars battle right now with all the lasers flying overhead I'm sorry all the tracers and whatnot flying overhead like it looks really really good like you just kind of want to sit here and stare at it for a second I love the flight paths on the little drones - they look really realistic like it's satisfying how they circle around the map I think the big thing that I noticed right now is just that the first-person-shooter portion of the game needs a little bit more polish things like reload animations for example his finger right there is kind of clipping through the the actual like stirrup of the the trigger area of the gun you know like his arm seems a little stiff on the foregrip right there just you know a little bit more kick to the fire right there something make it feel a little bit more snappy and realistic so I think that really they've got the turret defense battle portion of the game down super well it feels really nice I'm just gonna keep shooting at you okay you enjoy being shot at somehow this guy snuck past us let's go short-range there Oh short range I can actually just like bump up up up up I can go full auto okay well that's good to know can these go up to level 4 they cannot okay so that leaves us with the option of I I think we really just need more turrets I'm gonna put a couple more machine gun turrets over here because they are pushing this flank like really hard right now put one right there grab that metal put one right here let's get you maybe some upgrades it's helped out with that one real fast it seems like he needs a helping hand how we looking we're getting crawled over right now man we have a lot going on it doesn't feel overwhelming though that's one thing that like the turrets are competent enough that you don't feel overwhelmed I expected to feel kind of overwhelmed and I don't like there's a lot of stuff going on there's a lot of things that I need to accomplish while we're here but I don't feel you've already used up your ears oh okay I guess we just get the one it's one of those fire it's one of those you own everybody gets one our ship operates under spider-man rules all right I really don't like that he's firing at me from behind that upsets me they are not fans of my fuel mining operation it's kind of impressive to look at now oh here we go he said that he didn't have enough fuel for another airstrike there's my guy there's my dude they don't want the smoke they don't want it it's rare that I invoke the smoke but they don't want it he's landing on my turrets don't do that I like those turrets they saved my life those turrets have those turrets have ancestral value who will tell my story if not the turrets come on spit out the fuel cell you lazy bastard come on fuel is it 100% pick up the fuel cell by the fuel bring it to the ship all right we must know our central weapons to be captured in study by the beginning self-destruct sequence in five seconds while your self destructing my turrets wait till I'm in the ship Oh No everything about this is terrible apparently we made it out so I think we're good nice man well that was a lot of
