[Music] and we're all runners [Music] no matter where we we're are on our way cause we're honest yeah we runners and so we go [Music] so i'm gonna do something a little bit different for this week's video so last week if you remember i asked for requests of videos you'd like me to make and i could have predicted the results but yes not surprisingly this art journaling um was top of the list so there were other things as well which i will take a note of and i haven't read all of the comments i think i read most of them and yeah most of the requests were for art journaling so what i thought i'd do for this week is um give you a tour of my current art journal and i've spent the morning this morning basically doing something quite drastic because i've had two moleskine journals on the go this one for a couple of years and the other one for probably twice that long if not longer and it just felt so complicated so what i wanted to do this morning is simplify everything so i had this spontaneous urge this morning when i got into the into the studio if i can talk properly and it was to put together my two current journals um so i basically ripped up ripped out things from one journal to stick into the other and i've recorded some of that process for you so i'll include that in this video as well but yeah it's really fat so even if i put the elastic round it doesn't really hold it and i've had to i'm gonna have to stick that down a bit better but i've reinforced the whole spine with some tape and yeah that's how fat it is so if i just show you whoa it won't close so it's all fat and juicy and i'll show you my desk and then you can have a flick through with me in a minute so welcome to my desk um you don't often see my desk like this do you um but yeah this is where i do most of my art journaling and it's a nice happy spot a happy place of mine this is my journal so yeah i've reinforced the spine with um first of all i used brown plastic free tape the really wide one and then i double reinforced it with some um with some washi tape um a pretty one because i wanted to sort of jazz it up a little bit rather than just have brown so all i did on the front cover was to put a quote which half of it has fallen off now because as i said you know this journal has been going a good few years so i just yeah collaged a few things on and as you can see it's um rather grubby covered in little paint spots and things like that um i'm not a clean artist if you know what i mean um which is why i wear painty overalls all the time because i do make a mess and um yeah ruined loads and loads of clothes years and years ago so i learnt my lesson then so yeah that's the front of my journal um and i opened it up to the weird pages you know that are in the front cover so these can be quite difficult to work on um i think these were the first pages i actually did in this journal the other thing you should know about my journal is i don't work front to back i sort of jump about quite a lot so it's not necessarily in a chronological order either especially now have i've integrated the really old journal pages in here as well so i will explain that as we go along a really useful tip actually if you are working in a fat journal and you've got this really odd angle to work at is to put something underneath there so i would probably put a um book or something under there so that i could actually work on that without pressuring the spine anymore than it already is so yeah these pages and again i just was journaling around a quote from laura mccowan and i was just using um stamps various media um collage paint um yeah and then this is one of the pages i stuck in so i haven't cut it very straight as you can see can you see that hopefully you can see um yeah so i just tore this page out and trimmed it down because this this page is a little bit narrower than the others and because they were both moleskine journals as well it just meant that the page is pretty much fitted straight away so this is now unfinished with this edition and then this page i haven't actually filmed this page so it's not part of my heart journals i think this page is filmed for that i keep getting asked and i don't want to promo the patreon loads in here because it's not really what i'm about but i do keep getting asked about art journaling classes and um it is on the patreon for five pounds a month and the tier you need to join for the art journaling is called pockets so there's always a link down below in the description box so you can check it out if you're interested but again there's no pressure at all to join the patreon so only if you wanted those um extra sort of tutorial type videos so this was a page um an old page so i can't really remember what it was about i'm learning to dance and take risks i think it was about being seen um and something like that and not being able to talk if i remember it correctly again lots and lots of layers on this one with collage paints stamps collaged words um yeah some stenciling so again this is another page that i have glued in from my old journal there's lots of writing underneath here and then some collaged words which i think i got from my brave girls class with melody ross so i think i got those words from there um and then this is a page i painted over recently actually and just kept the little bird so you might remember me doing a bit of painting the other week and then there is a face under there which i didn't like so i just painted over it i had some paint left on my palette and i don't like wasting paint so i tend to just you know finish it off in in my journal on some random page and i just covered that up this is a another page i've stuck in i think this was a a little almost a signature about the book this was all joined together and i glued down this page here and then um yeah taped it here to give it a little bit more reinforcement but this masking tape is really easy um to work over with with paint so that can be covered and i've got little face to work with without being presented with a um a completely blank spread so it's quite nice i do that quite a lot and again i've got a grumpy face here that i drew ages ago years and years and years ago um so i can journal around her as well probably something grumpy so these pages i actually did on youtube so i do occasionally do um an art process video and i am planning um to do one soon so look out for that but i'll link um a link that the video for the for these pages um up there somewhere um this was all about a bad dream and uh yeah so but there is a video about this this spread this is an older spread lots of inks and collage and pen and ink drawing collage and this was almost like a permission slip in this journal to write down whatever's in my heart and soul because it's my journal so i can do what i want um and there was something going on with alice in wonderland curiouser and curiouser but i can't remember what that was about so i can't tell you this is brave girls tissue paper um which you can't get anymore which is a real shame and then i'm gonna skip the next page and the next page because it's just um private journaling so i'm gonna keep that private i've got some journaling under this um i just stuck that in to cover that up this is another page i have glued in today so just glued covered up something i didn't like and glued in a little drawing and then i can work with this whole spread whether i'll keep this in i don't know um we'll see i could journal over this or and then do something on this page as well this page is really thick uh and then i pasted this drawing in as well i think it was two separate drawings which is why i've joined it with tape and then i can easily work over um and around her create um a nice spread with this drawing and then i really like these pages these are one of my favorite pages in the book this was all about reclaiming my voice and being able to speak my truth out there um and yeah it really came together beautifully these pages i really liked it with the contrasting stenciling and i just typed out some words some journaling that i've done i think i'd written it underneath as well there's lots of words under these pages and then some stamps as well um i pasted one of my uh prints over the top of this face there was a face under there i didn't like so i pasted something over that um quite often if i do a face i don't like i'll collage i'll draw something else or collage something over the top um you are learning things now that will help you for the rest of your journey it's okay to cry if you need to cry and then lots of butterflies and butterflies are always significant um in my journal so it was a growth period this was and i think i'll work a little bit more to integrate her into the body and her hair and change her a little bit as well so a lot of these pages aren't finished i'll come back i keep coming back to them um so these these pages were process pages where i um i journaled something on this all this pink paper basically is a separate piece of paper which i journaled on a bad experience out and just wrote and wrote and then i tore up the paper and scrunched it all up and then i covered it in pink ink i got pink all over the van i remember it really well and then i glued it down and made it into something really pretty and put some glitter on it a little bit collage again some butterflies which i need to glue down and so yeah that was a process page i can't remember what the bad memory was now but um yeah it's all been processed these pages are pages that i will be working over i think that's watercolor paper which i've glued in and some tissue paper so i'll probably just gesso over the whole of that and do a separate spread um at some point and then again this is another one of those drawings that i have um stuck in you can see the different color of paper because the old mole skin used to be this colour really creamy and they changed the paper a few years ago and so you can see the difference there but i can journal over the whole thing and use this little drawing as part of the spread so that's um yeah quite nice way to begin a page when you're a little bit kind of hesitant to start and often one of the little faces will um match one of my emotions that i'm feeling that day so if i come in the studio to journal i can flick through my journal until i find um something that can work with the emotion i'm currently um going through so that's often a good way of starting for me as well and then i just collage that over because there were some words and they were completely irrelevant to me now so i just stuck something over the little fairy i drew so yeah i can integrate all that into a into a spread at some point uh this was another process page uh so lots of expressive mark making collage um writing um in these looks like an intention because it says my name is wendy and from this day forward but again i can't remember now what it was about um and then i'm gonna skip the next page um because it's personal and jump to this page uh this page is is another page i did in my heart journaling series which is on the patreon so the process is there if people are interested i basically was journaling around a quote walsh and shire and yeah i just was kind of doing some sort of self-nurturing really um and i was having sleepless nights because it was i think quite early on in the lockdown so whatever keeps you up at night kind of spoke to me um yeah and these pages again are in the heart journaling series another quote i love my quotes stuck down properly this drawing i believe was already here and then i did draw this one and then just continued um with the pages um and these pages are all about courage um this was the quote i began with um quote by anne nin life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage so and this was joined with this and this and this in a signature i think i glued that together um so yeah i've got some more um pages that i've got a drawing and then again i can journal around change the drawing if i want to because it's any pencil i can rub it out another drawing that i can journal around and then these are my most recent pages in here which is a page about grief and looking at grief anyway but finding the happiness happy memories in that that's in my heart journaling series as well yeah so what to say about these pages then i can remember what they're about because i only did them last week so that's good um yeah and i've been doing um another project which is if you can see that whether it's uh in the shot but um yeah this project i've been doing copying um for an educational project i'm not doing plagiarism or anything like that um but it's a paul bethan art nouveau lithograph and so i have been um doing this for quite a number of weeks now um in my art nouveau project she's not quite finished but the lilies inspired these lilies if you like so um so yeah that's why i was inspired to do the lilies she's um amongst the lilies and this drawing i think is in the um patreon and other parts of this as well i don't think i put it as a heart journaling spread and the bits and bobs from it are in there this is a page that i journaled when i was sat at a market stall so sometimes when you're sitting behind your stall it gets a bit quiet customers ebb and flow and uh yeah i used to take my art journal with me and um spend my tuesdays um just journaling behind my stall and yeah i think that's a stamp i can't remember who by and then a little drawing of mine a little fairy i think i did her at the market as well she's got a nice basket of roses there something about losing my voice again and another page about courage and being brave and this side i think i should probably work on more because yeah it's a bit unfinished but uh yeah and then this one i think i did this at the market as well um sleeping beauty i think she is so kind of into my fairy tales i come in and out of my fairy tales anyway and then this is a pager i've recently gessoed over to work on so i'll probably put a couple more coats of gesso over here and um yeah i've got a nice spread to work on and some pages about astrology which i'll probably just journal over and then this page here i think this is a napkin that i uh i pasted in and a little print out of a mock chagall or picasso painting i think it's a mark chagall actually love him so again i will probably do something over here maybe some words some different colors um at a later date this is a prime example of what i talk about when i talk about ugly pages so we've all got them those pages in our journal that we don't like and they're not complete and yeah we'd rather not show them or look at them but something beautiful can come out of it and the way i art journal is all in layers um so it's very much connected to emotions and i don't know if you've seen the film shrek where they talk about um peeling an onion it's a little bit like that so the emotional layers and the painty layers um mish-mashed together so i will hopefully be able to create a nicer face than that um i think i was in a really bad mood when i drew that but the process of that is within the heart journals as well so it's um yeah it shows the authentic process of how i create final pages and um yeah i'll be revisiting these pages definitely and uh doing something over the top these pages i did really early on in the lockdown when the lockdowns happened i very quickly took my class online and i had a small number of students join me on the patreon and i decided to start my patreon to um go online with my class anyway these pages were done quite early on in in the patreon journey um and uh yeah using a roomy quote and lots of doodling and we were doing i think we were doing a zentangle project and mandalas and things like that really therapeutic kind of processes and yeah started doodling all these eyes and these mushroom type shapes and then it felt very space planetary um yeah so i really enjoyed doing that um and i love dipping into abstract as well so as well as these ugly pages i also have these ugly pages you see um and i think i'm okay about this side but i want to work on this side so this will be another page that i will be revisiting coming back to and doing something i like on them um this was a little project i did um called watercolor galaxies which again was pretty early in the um patreon days um kind of linked to this i can't remember whether i did this one first or this one first um but yeah i kind of made these watercolor galaxies and then i um made a little um spread in the journal from them glued them in and made a little space scene if you like and then this is you'll have seen this one recently if you if you follow me on instagram because it's quite a recent heart journals episode it was the valentine's day episode um yeah so i did hearts and flowers and it was all about letting go um in there and this was um i worked on top of something i didn't like so yeah i did have a few collage elements i think that were already down and then i just worked with those made editions there's another page here that i'm not going to share so i'm going to jump to this page this spread here this is another episode in heart journals um and i think i have showed the beginning of this process in my art journaling videos if you haven't watched my guide to art journaling video i'll link that somewhere up there as well and it does show the base layers of making these this pages one of my prints um a little drawing i did and there's lots of journaling here and yeah it's really chunky because that's really chunky on the back as well so and then there's other pages that i'm not going to share just a little spread there because it's just it's just writing it's just private writing really so i don't want to put that all over the internet so then we move on to these pages unfinished but really fun pages i assure you i am not put together nor am i broken i'm finding the beautiful the ugly and stitching it into life so little quote there by rachel walchey i can't read that actually because i haven't got my glasses on but um yeah so i'll be working over the top of this and probably doing some writing i don't know and then collage layers one of my drawings another little sketch it might feel uncomfortable maybe even difficult it's exactly where you need to be for where you need to go so i was just journaling some stuff out there i think um and this is um i was playing with wax crayons on here and then i put a declaration a permission slip if you like in the journal where there's no judgment or expectations it's my journal and i can play so i had a really good play with wax crayons and i think i will um gesso black over it around the um the declaration and then um permission slip sorry and then i can scrape i don't know if you did that when you were little but i used to do that when i was a child and scrape back and then you can yeah do one of those drawings where the wax crayon shows through so i think that's what i'll do on here random sketch of onions um random sketch of some art supplies i think we were doing a drawing project in our yeah in our um art class pre-lockdown days so yeah that's why they're there and i'll probably journal over those because i don't really love them but it's just yeah i'll show you those practicing um lighting on a sphere a really good way to practice tonal values yeah a little random sketch and more drawing from art class we were looking at skulls so i think i'll keep the skulls in this is pen and ink brush and ink and this is charcoal i think i did seal it so it's not too um it's not coming off too much in my hand but yeah i think i will leave the skulls in but work around them um because they could be a really interesting addition to a page depending on my mood of the day so this is another episode of my heart journaling and i did a bit of a moon magic with a full moon i often journal in tune with the moon cycles um quite into astrology and moon astrology as well and yeah this is the collage and i just painted some um hills and things like that and then did a little character here i think i might make postcards of this one as well there are a few of the uh pages that i might um make some postcards but i think she might look quite nice um it's a little small print so yes i do my postcards about this kind of size um so she might look quite nice as a postcard and they they're not postcards they're they're much thinner than a postcard much more um lower gsm and um yeah i guess you know you could stick stick them quite happily into your journal so it's not going to make it too fat um and i am going to be making some things specifically for journaling as well so yeah next page is totally unfinished um so i think i'll probably black gesso over that and work around this little character whether i keep her or not i don't know i might do um unfinished pages to dip in and out of as and when i much prefer to do it that way rather than to feel pressured to finish yeah i prefer to dip in and out it's a random order in the book as well and um yeah it's just the way i prefer to work and then this page is one of my little stickers um these will be coming in the shop pretty soon in the next month or two i think i'm gonna do postcards of her as well james is working on those this week and then i've got another little face and an empty lantern provides no light self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly unknown but um i've long had a theme of shine your light um shine brightly and to be seen and yeah that is another unfinished page obviously so yeah just add some more paint layers and stenciling and um yeah things to her another really mixed media spread um sort of cut her out the magazine made her into a fairy and drew something next to something just to have the contrast of different media in there some washi tape um collage bear lots of um acrylic paint in there and some writing and things like that i think there's some bob dylan song lyrics in there as well yeah bob dylan there that's it i remember now another unfinished page um i think i had some green left on my palette so again just not wanting to waste paint and just glazed over the whole thing and push this face back this i don't know what's going to happen on this page um and then a little pen drawing queen of my own ways i think that says i often come back to the fairy queen um people ask me why i draw fairies and uh yeah i don't know they just come out they just appear on the page um and yeah another one look we've got fairy queen and a fairy queen there um so you might have seen me um doing some work on these pages in one of the youtube videos and she's not finished um i want to change her face a little bit and yeah probably add some words some some text into her as well she might make a nice postcard uh as well as that one so i might do that as a postcard and i might do this one as a postcard as well and then we're almost at the end now here we go layers of an onion there's more to be peeled and each peeling is sometimes accompanied by a fresh shedding of tears heatherash amara um and i think that's glued over some sad journaling and then i gessoed over it and did a little drawing and yeah and then that's just collaged in something i liked from a magazine i think i randomly found it at the campsite there were some magazines in them in one of the campsite bathrooms and um yeah i tore a few pages out a bit naughty and uh use them for my collage but i really love those flowers and uh yeah i might integrate those into this side so she's got some roses as well and that is the end because at the end of a moleskin for anyone that's got one you will know that you have a pocket there's nothing in my pocket at the moment i took everything out because it's fat enough so nothing going in my pocket i might put a secret in there just one little thing um and then this is one of the characters i draw quite regularly um that my lovely youtube friends is that um and it's a treasure to me it's an absolute treasure because it contains my heart and um my soul and a lot of um private things which you can't see because i painted over but i know they're there and it's my special sacred place where i can express myself and um yeah be true to my heart so that's what i do in my journal and i didn't really expect to be doing a journal tour for quite some time but um yeah with me putting together the two journals this morning i thought you know what i can i can do an art journal tour with that now and uh yeah so completely unplanned and uh just one of those things so i thought i would just pop back in and say goodbye before i end this video i will continue this art journal for definite and you've now seen where i'm at so far and um yeah i kind of feel um a renewed joy about my journal now i've um collaborated is that the right word now i've put together the two journals that i had going on so yeah i feel really good about that i hope you've enjoyed my little art journal tour there won't be another one any any time soon as you can imagine because it takes me ages to fill them like years maybe even decades i don't know so i'll leave you in peace now and end this video here without too much wendy waffle but i will save some up for you for next week and uh yeah thanks so much for watching have a really great week and i'll see you in the next one bye for now bye [Music] and we're all runners [Music] we're forever on our way
