Arriving After A Snow Storm | Alaska Cabin Life

what's up guys I'm pulling up to my cabin I've been away for a few days and it freaking snowed I just got out here to find a massive four foot berm just stacked right in front of my driveway so I guess I'm gonna get all my winter stuff on and we're gonna try to break a trail [Music] not only did it snow a whole bunch but it's also negative three right now we've got tracks here a lot of snow [Music] all right so think about being gone from the cabin for a couple of days when I get back it's just ice cold I'm totally snowed in my driveway's blocked but right now I gotta get this cabin warmed up so I'm gonna get that wood stove cranking [Music] I'm gonna use my good old trusty birch bark to get this fire started pieces [Music] when you first started wood stove the draft doesn't always want to go the chimney has to get hot for the draft to actually work but if you build the fire up closer to the top it'll actually heat the top of the wood stove quicker and get a good draft you can see some smokes coming out but it's actually pretty good the wood stove takes a really long time to actually start heating up the cabin so I have a secondary source of heat as well which is a little propane furnace it works really well to just kind of take the chill off and get Heat going into the cabin immediately gonna hold the pilot light down for a couple minutes foreign even with the wood stove and this thing going it's at least an hour before we get above 32 degrees before I head over and get the generator going I'm going to put some seriously big logs on this fire I want this thing to just be absolutely cranky when I come back in I'm going to put a big piece of birch on there all right I've got the wood stove packed full let's go start putting out some good heat here soon all right now that we got a really good fire going I'm gonna head out and get the generator started I use a little 2000 watt Yamaha generator for all my power out here I actually just did a review video on it if you guys are curious what kind of power I use check out that review video I made for the generator [Music] foreign [Music] guys if y'all want to know why I use this generator you're about to find out it is literally below zero fahrenheit I want to see if we can get it to fire up look at that the very first pull this thing started that's amazing [Music] once this generator gets up to Temp it'll go into Eco throttle and get a lot quieter man there's a lot of new snow out here now it's just a matter of time before we got a warm and cozy cabin to hang out in instead of a frozen dark ice box of Doom wow just in those like five minutes it took me to get the generator started it's already so much warmer in here because of that propane heater that thing really cranks out some good BTUs and like quickly there's no like warm-up periods just like instant heat all right but now I gotta hike all the way back out to the road to where my truck is and uh get all my gear I got my clothes and groceries and stuff like that so [Music] I almost forgot I have one more cabin tour to do I'm gonna head out and fill up my hot pot with snow I have a gravity fed hot water into the sink which I then have a bucket for [Music] all right I'm just going to kick back by the wood stove and uh take it easy ton of work to do tomorrow so I'm going to get a good night's sleep and I'll catch you guys in the morning I'll be a monkey's uncle the uh nearest neighbor which is about a mile away showed up just now in the middle of the night with his plow rig and I think he's gonna try to plow out my driveway so that's cool [Music] thank you morning everybody it's time to make some coffee and breakfast don't normally use the coffee pot but it's just me but got my good friend Tim Johnson truck house life showing up here in just a few minutes so uh put on a pot of coffee for the two of us he spent the night up in Hatcher passed last night outside in the cold so imagine he's gonna need something hot to drink [Music] well that sucks son of a that's perfect as you guys saw it seems like a quick start on the coffee pot the power went out because uh apparently the generator had its last little bit of gas in it and when the coffee pot kicked on and tried to make a draw on the generator just died so now I get to go outside and the negative two I think it's minus two right now and gas up the generator so I can get this coffee started foreign [Music] there we go coffee's good [Music] [Music] thank you good morning buddy going on the Timmy J Johnson of tractors live has arrived y'all knowing here he is that's right he slept out last night in the cold and uh he's gonna help me shovel today so oh yeah it's really good fresh cup of joe over there cheers y'all foreign [Music] all right let's get to shoveling [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] area I really screwed up is I didn't put good overhangs on my shed and Outhouse and uh wood shed and then I have to shovel out these massive areas in front of them in order for the doors to actually swing open so I'm going to shovel that off in this summer I'm gonna build nice big overhangs [Music] full opening for the door this thing swings out this way I got to get it shovel all the way to here for you [Music] this is a really nice log stairs that everybody Steve if you guys remember from the three cutting video built for me out here it's actually uh all him he did the whole project thought it up and built him and had him [Music] so I just got a notification that I just hit a thousand subscribers on YouTube and I just
