[Music] consistency has been the best word that it's grounded Tigers starter of late the rotation has been solid beginning with Max Scherzer to Justin Verlander to charity Bonderman tonight Armando Galarraga looks to continue the trend against the tribe for Cleveland it's a beautiful night for baseball here in the Motor City born human and we get you ready for Game two of this series featuring the Cleveland Indians and your Detroit Tigers hi everyone welcome to Tigers baseball Mario and Pemba alongside Ronnie Allen glad to have you with us for the middle game in the series the Tigers losing a tough one last night three two to Ron and now the ball club has lost eight of ten trying to get out of there's a bit of a mini funk they're in well for whatever reason the offense is kind of gone stone-cold and also athletics they got a pretty good pitching team and they kind of shut the Tigers down but when Cleveland comes to town for whatever reason the Tigers need to figure out a way to win a game here today maybe Armando Galarraga can do it tonight Galarraga gets the start for the Armando we have seen this year has been both hot and cold you know I think the Tigers made a very wise decision when they sent Armando Galarraga down to the minor leagues and the reason why they did so is they had Robertson Willis and Bonderman fighting for those last two position spots as far as pitches were concerned so they felt like they do the Armando but on the minor league get himself together pitch well which he did and now he finds himself back in the major leagues but he must do is own the fifth position they traded entre Willis Arizona they've given the job to Armando he had one outstanding start against the Boston Red Sox he stubbed his toe against the Los Angeles Dodgers they switch they skipped him in the rotation one one time to allow me work in the bullpen and let's hope that all works out for Armando Galarraga here tonight against the Cleveland Indians Miguel Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers hosting the Cleveland Indians here at Comerica Park and if Detroit combines for three or more home runs in this game make sure you bring a copy of the box score to a participating arby's location tomorrow get a free small order of curly fries you can find a copy of the box score in your newspaper or at the Tigers page at foxsportsdetroit.com well manny acta his team has been struggling this year but last night they want an impressive fashioned shutting down the Tigers Jake Westbrook was good at the ball game last night we'll be looking for the second win in a row for his team in this series their starting lineups brought to you by Honda Bloomfield and it features Trevor crow in centerfield shin-soo Choo is out in right followed by Austin Kearns and left their cleanup man is Travis Hafner the D H Jhonny Peralta is at third Russell Brandon at first base and your bottom three features Fred's ilanic Redmond and Jason Donald scouting reports on Armando Galarraga presented by Scotts lawn Pro well what he must do was earn the number five spot in the rotation they traded Dontrelle Willis away to the Arizona Diamondbacks to give the job to Armando but now he must continue to keep that spot he will if he utilizes both sides of the dish with a good two seam fastball south of the knees and he also needs that consistent slider which he was able to work on in between his last start on June 22nd May 22nd excuse me against the Dodgers and this start today let's take a look at the defensive alignment by Jim Leland's Club here tonight it's always presented by Beaumont Hospital Damon Jackson Ordonez in the outfield hinge Santiago he and Cabrera they round out the infield Avila with an outstanding at-bat last night the ninth inning against Kerry Wood singling sharply and driving in one run able to start behind the plate today Alex earning the starts and game two in the series and hopefully his bat will begin to perk up he's had some really good at-bats in recent games so he'll get the call behind the plate here tonight well it's a nice night for baseball 73 degrees our gametime temperature we had some rain in the area earlier today but right now it's fairly clear so we hope it stays that way tonight it should Trevor crow is leading it off for the Cleveland Indians it'll be crow choo and Kearns here in the first inning facing Armando Galarraga Tigers now one game over 500 at 26 and 25 Cleveland at 19 and 31 Galarraga ready to go to work and here's the first pitch of the ballgame a little bit low and away one ball two no strikes on Trevor crow crow batting 254 with one home run he's knocked in nine was one for five in the opener last night and Galarraga just missed inside run the count 2 and OH crow started the year at Columbus their Triple A team was batting 244 with 13 RBIs in 29 games and there's a strike in the outer edge two and one and crow getting a nice audition and the early started this season with Grady Sizemore their all-star centerfielder on the disabled list at least for the next couple of months with knee surgery the two one whistle foul down the third base line and as a young player and when your team is struggling the way that the Cleveland Indians have struggled this year if you could make a positive impression on your manager you might get some more playing time even when Sizemore comes back Indians have been contemplating some changes this crows skies this one in the air to centerfield Austin Jackson cruising back and that's how we start this one tonight one gone you may were just a couple of weeks ago the Tigers sent Scherzer down to the minor leagues because the Tigers are gonna have a couple of off days on the west coast so they wanted him to stay on his regular days rest and of course we know how that story ended and Scherzer went down to the minors punched out 14 and did very well in his first start it did the same thing with Galarraga when they shipped him out in spring training to get work just in case they needed that five spot which they needed here now with Dontrell being gone here is shin-soo Choo Colorado did not understand why he went down so early in spring training because he felt like he was in competition for that final the two spots in the rotation but the Tigers had a method to their madness the hope is that Galarraga can return to the form that he showed two years ago when he won 13 games as a rookie he's saying all the right things he appears to have his confidence back which he did not have last year bouncing ball first base side fair ball fielded there by Cabrera Galarraga will cover two outs that's gonna leave it up to Austin Kearns galarraga's last appearance was in relief on Monday that was against Oakland through an inning and two thirds in that game and his two starts this year at the big league level of victory and a defeat you know when you beat a team like Boston that has to bode well for your confidence which Galarraga did his first start when coming back up from the minors but he wasn't throwing efficient strikes against the Dodgers and ended up giving up a few runs line drive right at the first baseman Cabrera just like that the inning is over a nine pitch inning for Galarraga one two three go the Indian [Music] no score as we go to the bottom of the first in this one the Tigers defensively have a 1-2-3 inning behind Galarraga and here's the Tigers starting lineup presented by Vic boy it's Austin Jackson leading it off in centerfield Johnny Damon playing left again tonight followed by Magglio artonius and right Cabrera's at first base red-hot his last night Bosh will d-h followed by Guillen in jameelah and Santiago Tigers trying to get the bats going last couple of nights they have been silenced and Jackson will lead it off here against Fausto Carmona first pitch is off the inside part of the plate want to know they're going to have their work cut out for them tonight Carmona is pitching like he pitched back in 2007 when he won 19 ballgames for the Cleveland Indians with that power power sinker he's allowed at 6 for 2:30 on a Santo Domingo 26 years old Carmona we watched Westbrook yesterday with a real good to see moving fast about the bottom of the strike zone but Carmona's got that power sinker they're both 92 as a hitter when you make contact with that pitch with that kind of heavy sink it feels like you're hitting a shot put Jaxson hitless in the ball game last night was over 4 chops that one foul Mike Redmond is the personal catcher of Carmona it's something that many Act has started way back in Spring Training and apparently it has worked first year in the Cleveland Indians uniform for Redmond after spending many years over there handling that Minnesota Twins talented pitching staff 3 & 2 on Jackson just underway here at the ballpark Redman giving some encouragement now to Carmona Redmond the ones played for Jim leaden back in 97 in the Florida here's a 3-2 pitch bouncing ball back up the middle long run for Donnell can't get it in centerfield Austin Jackson leads it off with a single the Bernstein advantage brings you the scouting report on Fausto Carmona get the Bernstein advantage we go to bat for you biggest difference for Fausto is the fact that he's got his confidence back he's got a swagger back he's pitching well he knows it and he's confident with that he also made a slight adjustment on the pitching rubber he is moved to the first base side of the rubber which allows him to handle that sinker ball a little bit more efficiently and keep it in the strike zone and who doesn't Cabrera crush [Music] that's our Bernstein advantage Johnny Damon batting 278 he's knocked in 18 this year it's the great combination to run on Carmona has not been very good at preventing guys from stealing nor has Redmond as good as he is as a game caller he hasn't thrown very well this year and as I told you this combination has been together since the beginning of the season their numbers aren't good little chopper back to the mound this should be a double play and it is 163 on the twin killing so the bases are empty now two gone let's take a look at the Cleveland Indians defensively tonight you've got choo and right here six assists he has a total of 17 dating back to last year which is the most in the American League we told you that Redman and Fausto pheromonal of the battery Donald in brother Lonnie up the middle for the Cleveland Indians Magglio trying to get it started down with two outs or dounia's hit a bit of a rough patch here on the homestand the average at 308 but only three hits on this home stand and guess a lot of that could be said for many guys especially against that athletic staff which really pitched well in the previous four-game series here they sure do here's the one Elm and you get the feeling ride that with that staff that Oakland even though they don't have a whole lot of power in their Lynam should be able to stay in that race in the ones they're young and I think they're gonna be just fine then billy beane I would not be shocked if you went out and maybe found a hitter especially if that race stays as close as it is out west and they may be hanging on to Ben Sheets instead of flipping him over no question one ball one strike or Tonia's Magglio lines one on one hop to the second baseman gross ilanic and just like that the Tigers are done no runs they get a hit nobody left one inning in the books still no storm you Tigers baseball tonight no score as we go to the second it'll be Travis Hafner Jhonny Peralta and Russell Brandon facing Armando Galarraga moraga got a 1-2-3 in the first inning facing Hafner here the designated hitter for the Indians so far Galarraga even though it's already been just one inning he is keeping the ball rather low against these Cleveland Indians hitters which is exactly what Galarraga needs to do Galarraga has the good moving fastball anywhere from 89 to 94 miles an hour got an outstanding slider which allows him to dominate right-handers which he has done throughout his very young big-league career and an occasional changeup here's the o2 it's a chopper back up the middle to shortstop Santiago Hafner is out four up four down against Armando hey by the way this game is available tonight in crystal-clear high-definition on Fox Sports Detroit HD sponsored by Comcast last night we're talking about how the outfield has had to worry about the sunlight out in left field it's kind of cloudy and overcast here tonight so no such trouble here is Peralta with one out strike one on jhonny peralta who is 4 for his last 8 it's a well located first pitch fastball to Peralta he is a Deadpool hitter but if you locate the fastball where he located that last tough for him to do anything with that pitch on 2 Peralta at 2:47 he sit for home runs had a couple of hits in the ball game last night little looper towards second base and PM goes to the grass to haul it in [Applause] two outs Carlos has made every single play at second base since coming back up from the minors and really he's had to feel just about every ground ball and make a throw every which way and the quandary here is that a pop up or a line out I will qualify that as a public line at me I'm gonna go L for than a much score she kind of in between humpback line there you go home here's Russell Brandon Russell looks at a strike Owen one Cala Raja in his 13 win season a couple of years ago beat the Indians three times last year he lost to the Indians three times and had a DRA of nearly 10 against a tribe last year fouled away as a matter of fact when he came up that rookie year he made his first start against the Cleveland Indians I see you I found this rule fellow he's good to go some more high five just missed one and two the next step would be to get that ball autographed right now it's just so excited to have it ground ball to second base Carlos has it and another 1-2-3 inning for Galarraga six up six down against the Tigers right-handed Cabrera Bosch DN coming up Tigers mad at the bottom of the second in a scoreless ball game tonight Galarraga and Carmona hooking up in Game two in the series and Cabrera leads it off here in the Tigers second he'll be Cabrera Bosh and Carlos Guillen Carmona gave up a single but got a double play ball in the first and since coming to the Tigers there's no player in the American League that has better power numbers against Cleveland Indian pitching then Cabrera deep into left field way back and another home run for Miguel Cabrera almost didn't get it out he is on some kind of mission since taking a few days off with the birth of his new baby daughter Isabella Wow how about this homestand now 11 for 22 on the homestand for Cabrera we told you that he has really good numbers against Carmona for whatever reason and Carmona tried to sneak that little two-seam fastball inside the Cabrera and he cleared his hips out of the way and hit an absolute missile into the seats in left Miguel Cabrera with a home run safe at home plate safe and secure New York Life [Music] he makes it look so easy huh he is gifted gifted I mean there's some things that you could teach with someone what big fella has is unteachable its god-given Bosch roles one to second base for grezzo Lonnie his position one gone Carmona struggled so much last year that they finally sent him down to the minor leagues to get some work in and they didn't send him to triple-a they sent him all the way to instructional league to rookie ball to get some work last year that he kind of worked his way back to their staff at the end of July and he stayed there didn't have a great year but he pitched well in spring training and he's off to a very good start this year as well this cat won 19 games two years ago 19 and he was lethal even CC both I believe 119 that year Carlos Guillen batting 275 and as you could imagine they went to the postseason that year and probably should have got to the world steel court they have three games to one against it then then the New York yet boss was a Boston in New York it was Boston that year up three games to end they were huge and they lost those numbers 13 and 19 there's another ground ball he's getting a lot of those early on we expected that and Branyan makes the play two gone you're talking about when he was set down the last start he made before he was sent down was against the Minnesota Twins Mike Redmond is playing for the twins at that time and he had it old for 4 against Carmona and he was saying to himself as everybody else on the twins was just hitting Carmona really hard how could this guy with this type of stuff not have success and then the very next day they sent him down to rookie ball yeah yeah and I guess confidence had a whole lot to do with it Inge takes a ball inside one oh they don't want to give too much credit to Redmond because obviously Carmona is very talented but it has to have helped us to have the kind of leadership qualities that he does have now with Redmond being behind the plate to kind of help them along of course Marcin who caught last night is still very young but you have to figure out ways to get your backup catcher into action and this is the way that they figured out to get Redman 'some acted by catching Carmona and certainly it's a spot that Redfin is familiar with backing up Joe Mauer in Minnesota he was in Florida for a while and you know he's just say a guy that has been around so long that there's so much to your club because he knows his role fast ball in mist inside too far to at one that's why he stands now on the first base side of the rubber because of that two seam fastball they really has a tough time of you know commanding I mean a lot of times that ball still runs in on the hands of the right hand and a leaping catch at third by Jhonny Peralta to end the inning but the Tigers take the lead thanks to the big fella Cabrera with a line drive home run and it's one nothing Detroit [Music] earlier today at Comerica Park we had a ton of the Red Wings on hand here Jimmy Howard the goaltender of the Red Wings well he decided to put on the catching gear and catch Justin Verlander of all people a dick and it didn't go well some of it did he got the hang of it after a while JB not letting up on him either GB told him I guess I'll go 75% but even that is awfully tough it was fun to watch earlier today Howard a good sport couple of the other wings were here as well - real good right arms right there and his weird last night nick is coming back lifted in the air to centerfield Jackson coming on and Galarraga records another out Brazil on the fly to center field that's seven up seven down the Tigers had the luxury of skipping dollar agha after his May 22nd start in Los Angeles because he wasn't good that day he gave up six runs five of which weren't earned and he just didn't have a good slider so they skipped him which number five starters get skipped during the course of the regular season when there is a day off that way you can get back to your number one guy and number 2 whoever you choose to confuse but apparently the time off and the extra work in the bullpen has worked well for Galarraga so far all the fans balls have been very firm at 93 miles and hours a good movement in the slider has been a good pitch my credit in banning 234 one ball one strike here's the one one Galarraga had a one two three first a one two three second we've got some ground balls in this game already Armando in search of his second win of the year and another ground ball deep in the hole it's short on the backhand Santiago has time because of the runner and there are two gone time for a game break now we go back to the studio and here's Mickey York [Music] [Music] I'm Mick thanks so the Dodgers on the heels of San Diego who's surprisingly here in the month of June is leading the West in the National League and when Jackson started that game today for Los Angeles then pitched a 9th shutout in against his former club the Dodgers and that is Luke toward right field it is going to drop foul we all saw Jackson at his best here in Detroit and when he's on he can be awfully good good power pitcher tenacious on the mouth oh and two on Jason Donald who bats with two outs here in the third Donald two out of four last night including a three bagger but did not score here's the o2 that read a great story on Jason Donnell to hit his first home run against Jake Peavy on May 25th against the White Sox he went to retrieve the ball his teammates did and they said we'll give you an autograph and return for it and the guy that caught it said sure I'll take a shin-soo Choo autograph [Laughter] there's the bouncing ball to short half cold let me go on Donald's autograph that's cold one two three again for Galarraga nine up nine down we go to the bottom of the third of elos Santiago Jackson coming up Tigers on top one nothing as we head to the bottom of inning number three here at Comerica Park glad to have you with us tonight remember rod Allen Carolyn Rosinski is our producer tonight mark I Stefano he is our director as we go to the home half of the 3rd and a Vela hits a line drive right at the centerfielder Trevor chrome he's been centering the baseball a lot better the last couple of days we talked about that classic at-bat that Abdullah had last night against Kerry Wood but he also singles successfully a couple of days ago so it looks like the Vela starting to get it together here Santiago the home run by Cabrera the difference right now Santiago has one home run he was over four in the ballgame last night that shows bunt Hudson up the right-hand Marvin Hudson that is something that the Tigers have not done a whole lot of this year and that's but for Bay 6 but that most definitely is part of Santiago's game flared toward left-field and backing up his Kearns I'd like to see it I guess become more of Austin Jackson's game it's a good point no doubt about that especially when going up against a real tough right-hander the action had a single in the first looks like runs might be the premium here today on top of their game it's also a situation where if the Tigers get another base runner on in a certain situation where there could be a double play we might see some movement with Jim Leyland that's fair ball inside the bag at first base Jackson taking the wide turn he's gonna hold up as Choo who got to it quickly and froze back behind the runner choo has six assists this year and any time you're running the base pass and the ball goes to right field you have to think before you run because he most definitely will throw you out little tardy swing there by Jackson but if you keep the plain of the bat level and in the strike zone long enough you can flare something down that right-field line well Jackson pretty much has to steal this time two outs he's got to get himself in a scoring position and we already told you this is a good combination of running pitch outs thinking along the same lines nothing doing though Carmona almost gave that pitch out away when you pitch out the last thing you want to do is tip off the base runner that you're going to throw a pitch out one and one on demon Johnny hit into a double play back in the first [Music] try to hold up couldn't do it though one and two here's what I'm talking about on the first delivery from Carmona pitchout has already called but what you don't want to slide spit when you pitch out so you slide steps right there is the alert for Jackson to shut it down when the pitch shouts fall which the manager wants you to do is look exactly like you're going to throw like he just stood there there's a throw not in time to steal for Jackson his eight and not even close but he stole that base against Carmona with the high leg kick Redman had no chance whatsoever to draw it off some jacks great jump by Jackson about 12 steps before he's into the slide he stole that base very easily no problem Redman really had no chance now can Damon drive him in here with two outs eight out of nine steel attempts for Jackson Johnny Damon had a slow month of May after getting off to a really nice start in April and he feels like he'll have a better June it's one thing about veteran players especially guys that have won championships they know how to put the bad gangs behind them and always look forward always look ahead [Applause] on ball to second base should get him out of the inning and it does they said stolen base runner remains at second it'll be crawled shoe turns coming up [Music] it'll be the top of the order coming up Trevor Pro and then shin-soo Choo and Austin Kearns it is lying toward left-field looping back for the seats and out of play Donna raga is eight of ten in first pitch strikes which is a really good recipe for most starting pitchers when you're that efficient with your first pitch strikes the batting average for the hitter goes down about 100 points versus the hitter sitting in a 102 or 202 one count which is obviously a good fastball now let's go on to nine in a row retired to start this game pro flight out back in the first inning over one the Oh to hit like a bullet right at the first baseman Cabrera backhands it another ground ball out [Applause] one away in the fourth talk about that first base position and how you want to feel of most of the balls with one hand you go over your backhand that ball and it really doesn't matter which way you're going first base is one of those positions where you really don't need that throwing hand until you have to throw it helps you bend your legs better it helps you reach further everything about that position should be done with one hand all those slow-motion replays of course our courtesy of lincoln-mercury which is a really nice view shin-soo Choo 279 hitter coming in Choo has a bounce out over one he snapped it all for 19 in last night's ballgame with a home run is the longest hitless drought of his career for two looked like you got himself a slider at the bottom of the strike zone and just went down and got it and flipped it out of here number eight on the season for mr. Chu drilled a center field Jackson is on the run for this one two outs calatrava's gets quick outs he's working at a nifty pace here tonight Brera has backed him up with a home run chrisp games so far here comes Austin Kearns turns over one and a lineout he's over his last 12 there was some thought going into the season and Kern's was guaranteed not guarantee that a roster spot coming in a spring camp and I think the Indians thought LaPorta and Brantley would see a lot of time in left field but Kearns who was limited to just 80 games last year because of thumb surgery over in the National League really he's kind of grabbed that position and not let go he's a veteran player he was a non roster invitee in the spring training for many active you talked about their relationship last night in Washington when Manny was there Austin played for him so Manny was familiar with what Austin to do skyed in foul ground first base side Cabrera can't quite get there but for the life of me I'm kind of surprised that Brantley especially with how this team has struggled this year I'm surprised Brantley is not on their major league club he hit 300 last here in the limited playing time that he got he stole 40 sub bases in the minor leagues I thought for sure Brent Brantley would be their left fielder at the beginning of the season issue well there are some grumblings in the Cleveland media that after the all-star break there will be some changes in Brantley probably will be back up with the big blow there's strike three in Colorado continues to cruise along that's his first strikeout but he hadn't needed many tonight another 1-2-3 inning for neuro to start the game for our [Music] Tigers batting now in the bottom of the fourth inning they lead one-nothing and Fausto Carmona and back to the hill and Carmona facing Ordonez Cabrera and Bosch in the Tigers fourth Magglio is over one with a ground ball and Carmona misses outside one ball and one strike on Ordonez so for five in the series and he shatters spat rolls one toward third Peralta with an easy play one gone that AT&T trivia question again and the question was which two Indians teammates combined four more doubles in a season than any other duo in the history of the major leagues former Indians who are they George Burns and Tris speaker back in 1926 I didn't get that one dude strike called on Cabrera Miguel homered back in the second game's only run first time up Carmona tried to sneak a fastball by Cabrera but that's like trying to sneak the Sun by a rooster just doesn't happen nice 88 miles an hour would slide please Cabrera now 15 home runs second the majors he's behind Bautista of Toronto who has 16 slowly tapped up the middle Jason Donald throws him out two up two down a couple of ground balls here in the fourth here are the the combined doubles the biggest duo's force the Tigers has Gehringer and Walker 34 Greenberg and Gary they rotted your Martinez back in the 96 m's here's your list brennan Boesch chauffeured one with a ground ball they had a lot tonight ground ball both pitchers have gotten quite a few the 1o pitch one ball one strike on Bosh the Rookie of the Year in the month of May which gives the Tigers now back-to-back rookies should save Rookie of the Month that would be the year back-to-back rookies of the month one in April Austin Jackson one in May brennan Boesch that doesn't happen very often as you said impressions 345 average in May 10 multiple hit games 15 RBIs the 1-2 is swung on and missed and Carmona continues to cruise along as well that's his first strikeout of one-two-three frame let's go to the fifth you well let's see Galarraga has been cruising along he's retired 12 in a row to start this game and first pitch strikes on the last 10 consecutive batters and leading it off it'll be Travis after Travis will probably be swinging so much for the streak it'll be half there Peralta then Russell Brandon little mini shift these days on Hafner in Santiago not playing him as far in the hole as they normally would when he's going really good and he's going pretty good right now but an abbreviated shift these days for Travis better known as Pronk when he's getting it done and runs out of room Travis a good kid I enjoy talking to him down around the batting cage sprays it all around he's tenth in Cleveland history and home runs with 166 most of those has a designated hitter here's the 2-1 pitch swing an immense 2 and 2 on Hafner Coloradas pounded that strike zone to death this was disguised as a strike and ended up at the bottom of the strike zone great location just missed lo with fastball 3 & 2 Galarraga thought he had strike three he paused and gave a nice long look to Marvin Hudson lifted toward left-field Damon we'll get to foul ground and make the play thirteen straight retired by Armando to start the game [Music] and Galarraga forty six pitches carmona jizz 43 ramona take away that homerun is gone pitch for pitch right back to Galarraga in other easy out making it look simple tonight 14 straight retired two gone for Russell Brandon / Alton owl for to Branyan is over one with a groundout rustle Branton it only has 24 hits this year seven of which have left the building he's got real power get his first opportunity to play every single day in Seattle last year and had a breakout season he's always had great power [Applause] Branyan homered in the ball game last night he showed off that power was signed as a free agent in February started this year on the disabled list with bad back and he hits this one right off the mound in the roll toward Brandon and shook loves it and throws him out I see you bringing Ben that's kind of night for Armando Galarraga the sly grin on his face and the Tigers get another one two three still one nothing in favor of Detroit as we cruise along to the bottom of the fifth inning in this one Tiger is one run three hits San Cleveland no runs no hits he'll begin to lead it off and he rifles one right at Mark Rutte Salani one way bring a Brandon Inge one hitch in one out here in the fifth Ramona gave up the homerun to Cabrera to leadoff the second and that has been the only blemish on his heart Brandon his first time up hit a bullet right at Peralta Peralta was able to elevate in prevent the ball from going down in the left-field corner but Brandon had a really good at-bat against Carmona Brandon batting average up to 235 he was hovering right around 200 about two weeks ago then he got on base four times on Sunday and that kind of spurred him a little bit he had a walk he had a couple of doubles gonna home run in that game against the Athletics and most of these guys are still at the plate appearance count where if you have a good week your batting average can still go up about 60 75 points and I guess the flip side of that is if you have a bad week it can go down to about that same amount yeah what goes up can also come down Lloyd McClendon just as most hitting coaches in the major leagues it is a hard job - - on Brandon Inge six for his last 11 to raise that average carmona looks like a whole different cat than we've watched the last two years he looks like he's pitching with the same confidence that he pitched with that in 2007 it's funny because even in the last two years when Carmona was struggling his zra against the Tigers was 374 he was still wearing him out oh yeah he was the rest of the league he was over six swing and a Miss Tigers have always had a lot of right-handed hitters on their team and Carmona has told you some pretty good numbers in his right-handed you can see the two same fastball it's just got unbelievable movement to it he's gonna bring up Alex Avila only three Tigers hits in this one Jackson with two singles and a steal by the way in the home run by Cabrera Vela hit a ball hard straight at the centerfielder for it out back in the third and the pinch-hit single after a lengthy battle last night in the ninth inning against Kerry Wood Tigers got to within one run that's as close as they got wanted one and Alex carmona working quickly the 1-1 pitch toward left-field sinking base hit Avila continues to get that bath going to out single will give Santiago a chance Tigers have their fourth hits of this ballgame Thiago was a cloud victim back in the third last season one of the problems Carmona had was getting left-handed batters out they hit and hit and hit against him Santiago takes they hit to 331 against tonight he's doing a little bit better this year against left-handers but he dominates right-handed right-handers hitting only 208 this year against Carmona the center field Trevor crow almost over his hand getting over Tigers get a two-out single we head to the sixth inning where it's still one nothing Detroit [Music] I'm entirely the I belief is more strong and you know it's not like I hope out in and I gonna go down and you know start thinking about it is like something too much to go over than the mound and doing my job and I feel good by myself like that that's amazing what a difference a season can make in terms of his mental outlook in Galarraga has looked well awesome tonight boy has he confidence is big part of it you could tell he didn't have a whole lot of that last year there were a few games where the Galarraga kind of pitched like he pitched in his rookie season of all eight but for the most part and he just was lacking confidence last year he had a chronic has been a really good hitter in his career on to not lacking any confidence here today 15 straight retired by Galarraga to start this game as we play in the sixth inning Tigers lead one-nothing Manik just stays alive as he fouls it off he's got a rock going those them it means she's me Brazil on ik one of those guys where you might want to climb the ladder here and go right around the letters to see if you could get him to swing and miss eight of the ground six in the air one via the strikeout that's how he's carved up the Indians so far tonight elana cut a couple of hits and an RBI last night a career 290 hitter we've been around so long that Jim Leyland remembered when he came up with the Montreal Expos when Leyland managed the Pirates over internationally it's 39 years old checked it and he went around strike three the second strikeout for Galarraga been amazing tonight we got a rival at me Susan crows ilanic one of those guys that usually does not check his swing because he's not usually over swinging with two strikes and by him doing so gives you an idea the filthiness that Galarraga has here tonight here's Mike Redman in there for a strike on wine first pitch strike after first pitch strike the other year to centerfield Austin Jackson will have plenty of room and there are two gone after a game break down so we go back to the studio here's Mickey York [Applause] really Wow that I guess it's not surprising that's drilled to right field Magglio going back and there's another quick out it's an eight pitch inning for Galarraga he's retired 18 straight to start this game [Music] welcome back to the sixth inning in his time for the Coors Light freeze cam you don't have to go back very far just the last half of last inning Russell Brandon hits one off the heel of Galarraga and Brandon ends johnny-on-the-spot he scoops it he shuffles it on to Cabrera for the final out of the inning Coors Light freeze cam is brought to you by your frost brewed Coors Light so here is the top of the lineup now for the Tigers Austin Jackson leads it off so you say you weren't surprised that Griffey announced his retirement in the middle of the season I don't know if I was surprised I thought that something had to happen I didn't know if he would be released or if he would decide to retire but I felt because of the year he was having and that's a good play there Jackson enough that's something would happen whether it was retirement or release or something I just felt it well Jackson Rennick the general manager he told ken griffey jr. earlier this year when that bad press came out of their Clubhouse about he was sleeping and Don Wakamatsu wanted him to pitch and hit whatever the case may be but Jackson Hritik told Griffey this is on you I am NOT going to release you you do what you do I'm not going to be part of it and we were out there two weeks ago and he didn't get off the bench no he didn't he did not get off the bench no and I still maintain everybody has their opinion on who the best player they've seen play and I know there are a lot of great ones but I still maintain Griffey for me was the best overall talent that I I've seen play when healthy there is not a lot of people that would even argue with he was special well he came to the big leagues at age 19 in Seattle he was the poster child of all of baseball I mean all of baseball kids across the country started wearing their hats backwards and wearing Tim griffey jr. number nice running catch and a basket played by Trevor crow line drive to staying up rather lengthy in the outfield today - daunted by the way you can vote for your Tigers McDonald's player of the game you'd better hurry up though using your cell phone text Tigers followed by a space another players uniform number two three seven three three eight that's FS Det see the final results post game during Tigers live bleeding at this point Magglio cuts and misses on one I had a picture with Ken Griffey junior champion and myself and my daughter that we took a couple of years ago and I am glad I got ken griffey jr. to sign that picture when we were in Seattle my daughter with the forgivenss diving play behind Donald and he got it - well cocaine he held out of the bag with his big tell a Brandon nice place I'd retired one two three they go let's go to the seventh [Music] on our way to the seventh inning and the Tigers are leading one to nothing and a bouncing ball hit to the second baseman off the bat of Trevor Crowe and one pitch in one away boys he thread the strike zone and now you have some of the Cleveland Indians hitters coming to the plate swinging at the very first thing that they see because he has been so good with his first pitch strikes look at that ratio 14 balls and so now make it 15 of 19 first pitch strikes for Galarraga here is shin-soo Choo Colorado stuff is so good and he's feeling so confident with what he's featuring today he's even throwing to first pitch fastballs and shoe can kill fast balls and now to no one's surprise the town is owing to ground ball in a line out to here's the O to pitch in the air to centerfield Jackson coming over he's there to God 20 in a row and now Galarraga facing Austin Kearns the number three hitter burns a strikeout and a line drive over to Andy takes strike one [Applause] just about every fastball the Galarraga has thrown today has been right at 93 miles an hour without standing life on it there's a ground ball to short Santiago to his left 21 in a row the Indians have not had a baserunner tonight [Applause] [Music] here's Cabrera hitting a ground ball foul down the third base line Owen one on Miguel four settled tomorrow against David huff and david Huff was very fortunate to be pitching tomorrow taking the line driver off the head of Alex Rodriguez his last start everybody in baseball with a collective sigh of relief after that incident that happened in the Huff is no worse for the wear good to see him get the call now Huff said it hit him right in the right spot he had a couple of inches to the left to the right and it's a totally different story the ground ball up the middle into center field another hit for Cabrera his second of the game that's one of the things that Cabrera does is bottle well as most hitters in the game even guys that have great stuff like Carmona or closers that usually shut the game down he gets real good at-bats against those guys whereas most players and number one starters and closers are usually uncomfortable at-bats for you miss brennan Boesch don't be shocked that big Cabrera takes off to steal a base here today Jim has allowed him on occasion to run Vash little tapper right back toward the mound over the head of mana and there is no play everybody is safe it feels single for Bob that's that's a tough play because what you want to do is you want to try to jump it catch it but if he just turns and it kind of runs down the mound it takes a couple of steps he could have loved that ball with his height but he couldn't get there and Baz runs well for his side able to beat that out so that's gonna bring up Carlos Guillen the Tigers now have six hits and some critical baserunners standing on the bases right now in a tight one nothing game I'm gonna so for two although it looked like Colorado doesn't need it it would be nice to give him a little margin for air that is certain Galarraga is retired 21 in a row to start this game bald outside [Applause] carlos had three hits on the homestand since returning off the disabled list batting 268 [Music] ground ball to the right side fielding there is Branyan pliers - second one Carmona covers not in time solar at first and third down with one out Bosh is forced off the base paths [Music] Cabrera down at third-base and Guillen at first base and easier said than done but if you're Brandon to the best of your ability you have to try to force Cabrera carmona excuse me into getting this fans ball up in the strike zone which would help you to elevate something into the outfield for a sacrifice fly if you get a base hit that's just a bonus but Carmona has had that real good to same fast while working all day today even the two hits in this inning with the infield variety [Applause] [Music] one ball no strikes and Brandon Inge a lineout a strikeout [Applause] [Applause] to a gnome so Brandon ahead of the countdown our Mona surrendered the homerun to Cabrera back in the second so far his only run allowed and that missed way outside three balls no strikes [Applause] Galarraga surveying the situation [Applause] thinking about what an unbelievable game he has pitched to this point I would greenlight Brandon Inge right here I'd give him one swing right here three and OH he gets the fastball I let him hacked [Applause] [Music] three and one and there's a strike on the outer edge Brandon thought it was ball four but he's called back by Marvin Hudson just about everything above 90 miles an hour for Carmona I would think Guillen might be running here three and two one out if he hits it on the ground at least you stay out of the DoublePlay he was running it's not a bad play and if you're Guillen you also know the situation with Carmona and Redman this year there has been quite a few steals while this battery has matched up so if you're Carlos at first get it to jump just in case Inge strikes out you can steal the base get yourself a really good jumpy runners are 15 of 17 in stolen base attempts against Carmona Will's here runner going again and the ground ball to third he'll fire to second they get there and they still turn the DoublePlay with the runner : read a play by Aperol that's the throat here's our Comerica game summary Armando Galarraga has been spectacular tonight Cabrera has hit a solo home run and Jackson is 2 out of 3 for 21 multiple hit games this year for the story is Armando Galarraga no question about that 21 in a row retired as he goes to work in the eighth inning and a one nothing Tigers leave in the first pitch to no one's surprise a strike to Travis Hafner 18 of 22 first pitch strikes after his o4 to ground ball into fly ball here is Galarraga so one Travis now all for five in the series Galarraga has been cool as a cucumber tonight the one:1 is a bouncing ball to short Santiago has it 22 in a row and very seldom has he shook off shook off the youngster Avila boy the araga has gotten all the way up to 95 here tonight is literally the Superman this evening here's Jhonny Peralta it's kind of hot humid out there he he named sweat he the sweater you strike on Peralta who's old for - he's making the Indian sweat right now he's dealing no question about that the o1 swing in two minutes only 2 on Peralta he's doing this really under immense pressure considering he has just a one-nothing lead here's the o2 pitch Peralta takes it low 1 & 2 you got to be careful when you go inside against guys like Peralta you're better off throwing that slide piece down and away something he can't get to it's been a legitimate swing and miss pitch today for Galarraga swag and missing down he goes Peralta strikes out three strikeouts for Galarraga he sent Peralta beautifully the previous pitch two seam fastball knocked him off the plate and he came back with that slide piece at about 87 miles an hour that clearly was out of the strike zone but Peralta couldn't hang hold up on it now with two outs here is Russell Brandon brandon has put the ball on the ground twice and he takes strike one [Applause] one in one on Branyan the most pitches that Galarraga has thrown in any one inning tonight is 11 in the fourth inning he had a six pitch set here's the one one fouled away one ball and two strikes on Brandon [Applause] wanted to on Branyan here comes the crowd now and about sing ball to second base GN twenty-four enrolled for Colorado bottom of the eighth-inning at Comerica Park in a one-nothing game and that graphic says that all Armando Galarraga has been stunningly good tonight and the Tigers trying to get him some more runs here as we go to the bottom of the 8th inning it'll be Alex Avila to lead it off and he skies the first pitch in the air toward left Austin Kearns coming under it and one pitch one away if you're Fausto Carmona tonight you are certainly being upstaged by Armando Galarraga he's pinched himself a really good game for sure we talked about it earlier Carmona is looking like he looked back in 2007 when he won 19 games and finished in the top five and the siyoung Award voting which went to his teammate CC Sabathia Santiago showing Punk'd he's a big boy though just a big moose you could fit a car between Galarraga and the rest of his teammates a bit card and a bouncing ball to second base team progress ilanic two up two down [Music] Jackson now two out of three a couple of singles of Steel in Austin up at 3:29 strike one on Jackson Carmona himself has been extremely productive tonight in terms of his pitch count just 80 as we play here in the eighth Carmona and it really wasn't even a bad pitch and the ball that Cabrera hit out in the second inning was a good fastball was fern mid-90s and Cabrera touched him up for a solo shot left field seats meanwhile Jackson's had a nice day himself but Jackson has had a nice year there's a strike on the inner portion of the plate - - now on Austin trying to get something started here with two outs of the egg I don't think Carmona could throw a fastball straight if you paid him to throw a fastball straight everything is moving round ball left side he to get through it's a three hit game for Jackson [Applause] many actors already pitched out once while Jackson was on space it was the last time he was up and later on in that count with Johnny Damon standing there Jackson stole second base with two outs no doubt he'll be trying to get down into scoring position once again against this combination of Carmona and Redmond Redmond is only 2 for 22 and throwing out runners and we told you that he is the personal kitchen of Carmona so the majority of those steals that have been given up while Redmond has been behind the plate and has been when Carr Manos toeing the rubber popped up back out of play no balls and one strike and you fired up easy everybody's happy tonight they sure are Thank You Blair Cup our guys probably don't even know each other and they're fired up Johnny Damon tonight is over three double play ball ground out line out Jackson measures the lead and Damon looks at a strike own two [Applause] [Music] [Applause] bouncing ball just past the pitcher they go to the shortstop down old well not always say it was close and Damon beat it out that's what Johnny Damon always talks about he said really it only takes one good played appearance on any given night clearly not swinging the bat the way that you would like to goodies hustling down the line and Donald Blom's the ball across the diamond it looked like they may have gotten him but the call goes to Damon something else you watch there with Damon just a little lesson for those of you that play baseball when you're running down the first base line hit the front part of the bag the first part of the bag that you could hit because had Damon reached and hit the middle of the bag he doesn't get that base hit now here is Magglio ordóñez as the inning is still alive Tigers trying to tack onto their one nothing lead in the bottom of the eighth strike one eight Tigers hits tonight the difference is the home run by Cabrera way back in the second he let it off in the second inning with a home run off Carmona a line drive to right field that's a base hit Jackson coming around third he's gonna score Shu has trouble with it in right Damon will go to third and stop there and now Damon trying to score in the overthrow he will standing up [Music] [Applause] [Music] 3-nothing Tigers [Applause] [Music] [Applause] classic Magglio ordóñez at Maddy takes a 93 mile-per-hour fastball gets his hands inside of it and rips the ball into right-center field Jun gets over he knocks it down he bobbles it he kicks it and he comes up and fires the ball into the infield and Johnny Damon running with his head on a swivel able to pick up that the ball was not thrown in properly and was able to score single RBI he 9 allows the second run to score what a big at-bat for Damon keeping the inning going in the scoring the third run no doubts good base runner good instincts for Damon miss Cabrera swung in a minute so on to [Music] [Applause] carmona need not get it twisted even though he's ahead in the count no balls and two strikes to Cabrera he better make a quality pitch [Applause] Cabrera with 15 home runs in 49 RBIs and has been one of the best hitters in the American League since putting on that Tigers uniform at the start of 2008 hello again 2 & 2 let's talk about the Barrow Mariano I was thinking about this last night very seldom do you ever see this guy off-balance I mean when he takes his stride it seems like it's always perfect he always keeps his hands back in when he does it just right he's incredible it's a lot to be impressed about I'm not sure what is the most impressive part of his game put it all together he's one of the best changer an 86 mile-per-hour change that's not the proper differential neutral 93 which is where the majority of Carmona's fast balls have been you want as a pitching coach at least 8 to 10 miles per hour differential in between those two pitches or else there's really no deception and you really don't fool good hitters like Cabrera hi flyball right field this was heading back toward the corner and not a play [Music] two and two three nothing lead for the Tigers and Armando Galarraga swing-and-a-miss and Cabrera is out of there and then we'll do it the Tigers two big ones though here comes Galarraga we go to the ninth it's three nothing [Music] you we are headed to the ninth inning Armando Galarraga has retired 24 consecutive batters and he has the bottom three hitters in the lineup to face here against the Indians Galarraga will face Reza Lana and Donald they are the three scheduled hitters and as swinging a high fly ball toward left-center field Jackson is on the run still going he makes the tackle Jackson busting Jackson in left-center field the sparkling plane oh my goodness [Applause] [Music] [Applause] for the details of real estate here look like a young Willie Mays Mamdouh Galarraga with nothing but a smile what else absolutely incredible here's Redmond strike one [Applause] Austin Jackson with perhaps the play of the year so far one ball and one strike on Mike Redmond would air bunching Redmond just the way that they lead the bunch in because he gets lots of face hits right into right field right-center field and they got him played perfectly right now and a ground ball fouled off side of the bag at third and it really don't matter what Jackson's pain he's gonna run it down anyway 1 & 2 Mike Redmond on Kelly meanwhile is coming to play defensively and lab for Johnny Damon here's the one - bouncing ball to short Santiago and there are two outs 26 up 26 down here comes number 27 it's Jason Donald and a crowd of better than 17,000 to its feet the guy we've been waiting for all night [Applause] strike / - for Donald tonight the O one [Music] one ball and one strike on Jason Donald [Applause] [Music] ground ball right side Cabrera will cut it off Galarraga colors he's out though he's safe he is safe he is safe at first base Jim Joyce said he was safe at first base you may convinced the base is out why is he saying unless you'd miss the base are you kidding me why is he singing we'll see right here [Applause] oh my goodness enjoy what a travesty what an absolute [Music] my goodness Armando I'm sorry for you really sorry there's a strike ball here's another look Galarraga get in there he can smell it he can smell it perfect game tags the bag and they called him safe I felt this bad be careful kids enjoy snow right from the Sun rightfully slow runner going to third and there's a strike ball one and to the treble pro this stomach ah here's the 1 2 pitch and Cabrera is still going at [Applause] isn't it bouncing ball left side Brandon in disappointed after a Tigers Armando Galarraga what an outstanding performance tonight [Music] player the players shouldn't get too much in Jim Joyce's face now because it's all said and done it's over let's go Tigers wounded here tonight at least Jim Joyce is standing there taking it like a man [Applause] and Jim Leyland they'd let them have it Sall zygors and layers let him have I don't know how to describe this I just feel so bad what an effort tonight for Armando step aside Tigers win here tonight Galarraga spectacular [Music] ground ball right side Cabrera will cut it off Galarraga colors he's out there always safe he is safe he is safe at first base I don't know about you but my stomach is still churning hi everybody welcome to Tigers live from the call Sam studios I'm Mickey York 3-nothing the final the Tigers win but the score is not the story from this one the store was Armando Galarraga and a call that altered the course of history let's be honest about it I mean it left all of us speechless there for a moment and we weren't named Armando Galarraga Galarraga however mustard as many words as he could with Trevor Thompson as he came off the field a short while ago I believe the clue you use the situation like this is you was robbed your thoughts Armando tremendous team obviously but your thoughts on the play that spoiled what would have been perfection keep going like that in I don't know what to say you know the decision the last scene in that was I have to see the replace bow I mean I feel really good I can tell you right now I see plenty of replays and the call was blown but let's talk to a call that was about Austin Jackson out in centerfield that over the shoulder catch it looked like destiny at that point don't you think I mean he got that kid tell me like come on you know you got it out I was thinking and I tagged up guys I don't think it you know not too much about a no-hitter I don't know it's my mind I can't help it beau I would think I attack the guys I get it getting songs to go on a swing swinger and I when I see that place okay you got it now you got it though talk about your emotions throughout the night the crowd behind you guys in the dugout whatever you might have experienced tonight tell us about what would through your mind I don't know and that's equal tension you don't you don't think too much you use like action you know pitch by pitch in it and and you start like get a little bit you know pump it up and a little bit nervous everything coming together but I don't know how to explain use you something they call me go broke week because I was quick you know and I don't know well as it is it's a one-hit shutout congratulations on a big big win tremendous night thank you thank you a lot more from Trevor Thompson coming up in the Tigers clubhouse shortly certainly probably some a heated reaction from the Tigers including manager Jim Leyland a little later on in the show you know you hate this even more because Raimondo is one of those guys you're root for he's always kind gracious has a great sense of humor and you hate it because you didn't see this coming he gave up five runs on four and two thirds and his last start against the Dodgers he had lost his last three starts against the Indians but I don't care what they say he was perfect tonight Mario and Pemba rod Allen join us once again from Comerica Park a mile guys rod I give you guys credit for continuing the broadcast tonight because after Jim Joyce's missed call aside from my screams of horror I went completely speechless well I did too Mick and I'll say it again this is the most disappointed I've been after a Tigers Law Tigers win in a long long time I mean in baseball terms it's a travesty I mean Armando Galarraga this guy is so full of class the way he handled it after the game rod and I know his Tiger teammates are livid they're still looking at a replay and I think we're gonna be looking at replaced over and over and over well this is the the teammates I mean they're watching the last play and they clearly watched how Cabrera gave him a nice feed Galarraga got to the bag he had his foot on the bag safe I mean it's just I'm right there with you I mean Tigers won this game which in the grand scheme of things is very very important but it's a shame that Galarraga did not throw the 21st perfect game in history and rada all the ingredients seemed to be there Armando got a ball to bounce off the mound to Inge to force him out to Jackson made that unbelievable catch in the ninth all the signs were there weren't they he was lethal I don't know what he ended up first pitch strikes today but he was first pitch strike on just about every Indian hitter and he was o2 on a good portion of those guys and he had a good moving fastball 93 he touched 95 the slider was tremendous that all kinds of depth didn't throw that many change ups I mean and everything was south of the knees I mean this was just an unbelievable pitching performance by Armando Galarraga well Jim Joyce will probably never hear the end of this one shades of Don Dinkin sure guys the Tigers protest this game is there any chance this thing gets reversed now they won the game and that and that's all the counts and you know it's too bad for Armando and I will say this too bad for Jim Joyce because he's one of my favorite umpires he's been a great umpire in the major leagues a long long time but let's just face it he missed this call and it's gonna happen but if you're Jim Joyce right now you gotta be thinking oh my goodness the tidal wave that's coming my way no doubt he's been a quality big league umpire but this is one that he will never ever let be able to live down well naturally I'm sure mondo feels cheated shouldn't we all when we had a chance to witness something amazing tonight guys well we did and you know our Mondo's phone would been blown up obviously had he thrown this perfect game but Austin Jax is what if it's well because this would have been kind of the crowning achievements of his young career to this point two robbed with a great catch you said it best I think of the broadcast shades of say hey right here and and it's also the type of catch that Dwayne Weis made although lies took a home run away in his no-hitter I'm talking about the perfect game that burly threw last year this catch I just hope we get a chance to watch it more and more because it was tremendous play and it looked like he just covered all kind of ground to get there which made it real special now what a night guys we won't forget it anytime soon and it may seem anticlimactic at this point but we'll have a look at the tomorrow's afternoon series finale of Mario ride a little later on the show thank you fellas we'll see you then Indian Tigers as seen here no score in the second until Miguel Cabrera reaches out punches them all Gabby's team leading 15th of the year makes it one nothing and that was plenty for a mando Galarraga it's Dustin Kern this strike the pose here is he retired the first 12 he faced in the 5th komando Galarraga continues to look ma let's get two fortuitous bounce off the mound of Brandon Andrew fires in time to get Russell Brandon 15 up 15 down to the 6th Galarraga caps another 1-2-3 inning by getting Jason Donald a fly out to mags perfection through six catch your breath we're going one of the seven Indians still can't solve Galarraga it's Kearns again running to Ramon Santiago that's 21 straight more of the same in the 8th Jhonny Peralta you must return to the dugout and then it's Brandi again grounds to second to end the inning 24 gone the Tigers and get some much-needed breathing room for Magglio ordóñez singles to right that scores Austin Jackson and then since you choose Gro is not very good that allows Johnny Damon to score three nothing Tigers and two the decisive ninth inning we shall go here's the one two bouncing ball to short Santiago round down right side Cabrera will cut it off [Applause] you're safe and then Trevor crow would ground out the Brandon Inge to end the game it was a three nothing Tigers victory but in a lot of ways it didn't feel like it at all galarraga's one-hitter the 28th and tigers franchise history he was just one out and one bad call away from in the first perfect game in Tigers franchise history Miguel Cabrera continues to tear up the Indians and continues to play well on this homestand going to four with the home run but our Gallo Galarraga the story tonight's just one hit struck out three in nine innings of work his first complete game of his career well Jim Leyland said just the other day he will fight to the end for his guys but his goal this season was to not get ejected I'm sure he said enough to Jim Joyce after the game tonight to get run but after blowing the call that denied Armando Galarraga the third perfect game in the major leagues this year there wasn't much Joyce could say back Jim now has the chance to fully express his feelings on the way tonight's game ended as we send you into his office for his postgame comments well it was it was just an unbelievable performance and that's that's that's the nature of the business you know I don't think there's much sense really talking about it and his performance was I'm just absolutely perfect and still is perfect but that's you know that's the nature of the business that's that's just the way it is the players are human the umpires are human the managers are human the writers are human TV celebrities like Trevor they're human we all make mistakes so that's just part of it and you just move on it's a crying shame but you know Jimmy's a real good umpire has been for a long time and he probably got it wrong what was his reaction though Jim after the game because clearly a lot of guys were talking to him including you well I think one thing that you know with the naked eye I couldn't tell neither could anybody on the bench some guys obviously I think that's that's a little more emotional than normal so everybody is saying automatically out you know it wasn't till after a lot of guys had the luxury of looking at the replay that they saw that he was out so I think emotions started running higher after that but you know that's the way it goes you know you move on and it was excuse me as a brilliant performance and you accepted as that and and you come back and played him off Jim did you think it was destined to be after the catch the Jackson meet no I don't really believe in stuff like that I and that's why baseball such a great game I mean grizzle onyx smoked the ball real good that's a brilliant catch just absolutely as good as it gets and then a little infield kind of a number actually ends up you know breaking up a perfect game that's just the game of baseball and that's probably why it's a great game can you describe your feelings when he was called safe there just well I mean I was you know oh yeah I was obviously nervous oh you know to be honest with you you know you're pulling so hard for the kid that's something that just isn't done very often there's been a couple of them this year it looked like you know after Jackson made the catch you know maybe you start thinking but just you know that's the way it goes there's really nothing you can do about it it's in the history book as as a great performance and that's pretty much how you look at it give me me he remained pretty composed throughout - I imagine you must feel pretty good about the way that he kept himself together through all of this well I was more impressed with just the way he went after the hitters just pounded the strike zone all night long you know good slider both sides of the plate I mean that that's what I was really impressed with you know you know you could see the faces on the guys and I got obviously everybody aware of what's going on obviously I was aware of what's going on but you know I think the thing we're losing sight of here too is we you know we needed to win a game and we won a game and I'm sure Armando is happy about that so you know this is one of those words it was great for the team it was probably even greater for him because of the performance so hopefully we can come out tomorrow and get after it and get another win we need another one bad but I mean it's a crying shame you know in a lot of ways it you know after looking at the play and and Jim's a class guy he's gonna look at the play and this sounds crazy but after looking at the play nobody's gonna feel worse than he does obviously so I think you have to take that in consideration you know my yelled a little bit after the game because the emotions are high and you know like I said we had the luxury to replay so that's a little unfair but you know it's you just want it so bad for the kid it's no I don't think you're as mad at at the umpire as you are you know mad that the kid didn't get it and and did deserve it and I think that's the big thing but like I said Jim will look at nobody's gonna feel worse than he did is this something you can take up a major league baseball talk about no no I don't think this is this is the human element of the game it's gonna remain that way forever I think it should you know I'm sure somebody's gonna say you know if they had a replay on that play the kid had a perfect game somebody will say something about that but not me I just that's the human element and it's a good element because you know the umpires do a great job there's no question about that and they you know they're a whole lot right more than they are wrong and they they make some unbelievable calls on bang-bang plays that you know you'd be surprised I may read plays you look at where they're right and you thought they were wrong and they are right so it's a you know it's a little disturbing but not to the point where you know you don't just turn the page and like I said Jim's been a good umpire for a long time he's a class act and he's gonna look at it nobody's gonna feel worse than he does just some facts there did he think that he bobbled it or did he just think he'd be know that that was a great part yeah you know I think if you know from my vantage point if by chance you know Galarraga maybe wouldn't come off the bag or something then you know I thought maybe that was involved that was not involved he just felt that he beat it that was his explanation to me he beat it and you know you just you have to accept that and we do accept it you know you don't like it tonight but you know the season will go on and you know it's a shame but that's part of the game he must have say about the team and the guys that they gave him a beer shower and celebrated this like they would even if it had been perfect they're calling the perfect game they're saying he retired 28 straight so you know it's it's not quite as nice it would have been had it and had it turned out you know but that's okay I mean you can talk about this one you know you can people can rip on the umpires writers TV whatever you want to do it doesn't change anything and the fact is that that guy's a very very good umpire and I will say this I I don't know of any umpire in the history the game that would want to miss that call you know they don't want to give you anything but they don't want to miss a call they're just doing their job he apparently happened to miss it what are you gonna do well I mean at first I was absolutely shocked but you know right after the call was made you know all he was thinking about was the connects guy you know getting him to finish the ballgame win the game and and then you know we deal with it you know do with the emotions and the rest of it after that was my thought process but I mean obviously everybody knows you know he was out that's not easy I'm firing or playing this game that's just the way it happens and you know it's definitely kind of took the win a little bit out of the wind but you know that's the way you know the game is you know times you know umpires are human and you know you're gonna have you know missed calls here and there and it just works both ways Alex extra-long embrace with Armando at the mound after the game can you take us inside of that little conversation you had with him well you know I just told him that I was very you know one thing that you know me and Jo try to do is is really have a personal relationship with our pitchers you know so they can feel as comfortable as possible with us and you know I was so proud of him and I can't you know I probably won't sleep at all the night just talked about the way that he remained poised throughout the game I mean he hasn't really been in this kind of a situation before it'd be seemed composed he seemed poised throughout didn't seem to let the situation rattle him how do you think he remained so composed and poised throughout the game and did you have anything in any hand in there well no I had no hand in anything he did a great job today he you know he was telling me that you know I guess after the call he was so nervous you know the last couple innings of the game that he just II didn't know how to react and you know didn't show no I mean he's you know he he had tremendous poise that a tremendous man I'm presence and you know he pitched you know with the tenacity that I haven't seen in a long time and he knows he's got the stuff to dominate a team now so you know I was extremely proud of ground ball right side Cabrera will cut it off Galarraga colors he's out though he's safe he is safe he is safe at first base Jim Leyland [Music] first base umpire Jim Joyce missing a call that would have completed a perfect game for a mongrel Galarraga hi everybody I'm Mickey York welcome to bonus coverage of Tigers live the Tigers shutout the Indians tonight by a final of three to nothing but Armando Galarraga will have to settle for a complete game one hitter he was showered with beer from his teammates upon arriving in the Tigers clubhouse after the game what better way to pick up it from a disappointing and upon wiping off and drying off for the cameras the media members and the microphones made their way over to commandos locker and this is what he had to say you know and I mean a lot of respect because he feels so bad and he'd really feel bad I feel more bad than me and do you know how many say before nobody's perfect everybody human and everybody everybody it's some time doing the bonus stuff on bond decisions and then then I understand when I give you some a lot of credit to that guy tell me a I need to talk to you because I really say I'm sorry don't happen you don't see any umpire you tell her not so again say hey let me tell you sorry there's not happen really he he apologizes he feel really bad only when you see him you say oh my I feel really bad you don't even shower he was insane close I mean you just keep you a cup of Hawking and you know there's gonna be a couple more holes so Huggies in yeah yeah I know I'm not that kind of person but you know there you go whatever you know I know it's nobody perfect what I'm gonna do you know I was mildly in that moment when he got the situation I was smiling because I was nervous I don't know what to do and I was like celebrating like look hand like okay did he save your mondo besides that he was sorry did he say anything more than that he don't say anything he said body language his body language say more they say a lot of words when you his eyes of water and he don't have to say much he's battling would say argue to argue the call right no no I was in shock serious I'm so sure I'd be gone what are you feeling you don't I tell you out before you don't feel anything so a lot of feeling together nervous angry happy so so many feelings together you don't I don't know how to react a lot of guys say that same feeling carried over inside the clubhouse they wanted to have a beer shower for you or whatever might have been and then you'll pat you on the back but some of the thunder was stolen because of the way things went down how did you feel inside the clubhouse with the guys no I'm Baloo and the support guys we celebrate we get it I get it I believe I get it and I said before a guy want perfect game I want to show my soul maybe it's not in the book I'm gonna show my son a one time I got Guinness so the city has known the bull I know in the book was show the city that you would hope Major League Baseball would do tomorrow I mean regarding this I mean is there anything that they could say or from the Commissioner's offices they could say about your performance that would make you feel better why they say that oh no I know myself a Troy you know I know you know but I don't think they're gonna change you see they change Armando can you talk about what maybe this can do for the team as far as Bandung you guys together maybe building a little momentum offer because you did need the win which is really what it comes down yeah I mean really play like peach stuff really good and I will hear them for you to know right now they're gonna talk they're gonna come like Miguel Carlos Mario's boss Jackson hey Brandon they're really gonna come they don't want to stop and it's good for us after Jackson's amazing catch Armando Galarraga was just two outs away from history on a perfect night this game ended anything but Jackson went all out to preserve it he was determined to see it and the way it should have here's his reaction to how this game unfolded in the end as we take you into the Tigers Clubhouse done like that that's special you know and you don't want about to get hit to you and you know you're not made to care so disappointing is it for this club for us to see what happened to Armando with an unfortunate blown call well you know it's unfortunate you know he's human you know he made a mistake but at the same time you know we did get the win and you know he pitched he pitched great and you know Austin I imagine making that catch everything about it was the jump you got what did you see off the bat well the initial reaction was oh my goodness this ball was gonna drop but I think it hung in there you know a little longer than I expected it to and you know I got to it they're comparing that catch the Willie Mays as your thoughts on that I don't I don't know about that it was it was a good catch but I'm not gonna I'm not gonna rank it that high you've seen the replays how shocking and how you know how does the team react when you see that happen they were pretty excited you know it's just one of those things where you know that that could have been a hit but you know I got there and I made the case what are they saying inside the clubhouse Jim was saying that they they're saying I'm on to May 28th straight house you guys gave him a beer shower anyway just as if he'd completed the perfect game what are you guys feeling for Armando right now well we're not in our mind you know that was a perfect game and you know he pitched a great game and you know that's that's it you know we were taking it as that and I mind that's the perfect game so I'll just compare with some of the pitching performance as you've seen it right up there with the best Donald play the game voting is presented by the deluxe angus third pounder you got this one right people 98 percent of the votes goes to Armando Galarraga my goodness you've got the other two percent Armando perfect through eight and two-thirds Jim Joyce less than perfect in the final third to vote for your McDonald's player of the game Tex Tigers followed by a space in the players uniform number two three seven three three eight that's FS Det and check your text response for special offers from McDonald's I think I know the answer to our little trivia question Brandon Inge probably got the other 2% tonight the Tigers you know did win this game we should remind you of that three nothing to find I'm a Brandon like everyone else just talking about what could have been no no I I saw pretty much instantly because obviously your first reaction is to look and see what the call is just saw that it was a call safe and that's why I had reaction I went straight to the ground that's the way it goes you guys watched it a number of times in here what's the collective feeling about not just the blown call but feeling for Armando in this situation well this was not let's not take anything away from Galarraga I mean that was a tremendous game I don't care you know what it says on paper that was a tremendous game that was one of the best games I think I've ever had the privilege of playing behind and you know it's it's a tough situation that it comes down to that but you know I'm still gonna go mondo credit I mean I'm I'm so proud of the guy I really am it said that it comes to this and we have these emotions after it but man I'm I'm very proud of Jim was saying after the game you guys gave him a beer shower and nonetheless instead he had 28 straight outs what was the team feeling when you guys came back in yeah well there was there was a lot of tempers that's that's that's to be to be expected when you you know you have a family of guys there's so close knit knit like this group of guys are you know he you know it's gonna be some tempers flaring in you know we were pretty upset but you know we pulled it together and made sure it was about Armando when when he got in here give him a little bear shower just to just to celebrate for him and you know he did he did a great job you can't take that away from discussed earlier the special relationship he and Gerald Laird have with all their pitchers and that may partially explain Laird's heated reaction after joyce missed a call there at first base in the ninth inning denying Armando Galarraga the perfect game Laird of course didn't play tonight but wanted the see Galarraga come through with his perfect evening here's what else he had to say about it as we take you back into the Tigers Clubhouse yeah I told him I said yeah better Ingram had finished use didn't meet no but you know it's one of the things were like I didn't I've been saying you know it's I mean it's it's probably every every pitchers dream to give it I'm between a pitched a perfect game in weather 20 in Major League history 20 and this games been playing for how long it's not like a no-hitter is just perfect game and for me I would have probably been a little more emotions but he did handle it really well and one got that last out and I admire him for that and like I told him after the game and I told the team you know that's a perfect game in our eyes you know and we gave him a heck of a you know a celebration in here and for all for all 25 guys of the coaches to have been here you know that's a perfect game I mean in our eyes you know he he threw a perfect game and I the umpires have obviously been in the news a lot lately I mean have you noticed any change in their and their performance from year to year not really I mean umpires have a tough job you know it's it's not easy going out there and I'm firing a major league baseball game and you know I have and I get along with a lot of them I have all the respect in the world for them they're great guys and they're people just like us and like I said you know Jimmy I've known Jimmy for a long time catching he's a great man I have all the respect in the world for him yeah you know I don't think anyone feels as bad as him right now maybe if you looked at the replay and you know he said and and and and me know and Jimmy he'll be out here tomorrow give his best performance behind a plate and it's unfortunate you know that you know that call got missed but that's just up atop own part he is you know he at the moment he probably ought he got it right and it's one of those things and you know I'm not gonna I don't I haven't really lost any respect for me it's a tough job it's just unfortunate that a guy puts that kind of performance in it and it doesn't get you know work out his way from that perspective are you surprised that he didn't just not that they want to blow any call but call him out just for the sake of the situation and everybody in the ballpark wants to see that call made out probably even the Indians oh yeah definitely you know it's just one of those things were at that point in the game you you want to see anything bang bang out I mean a picture does that kind of performance he deserves to to get to get that and you know but I do agree with you know you can't just give it to him if guy beats it out he beats it out and you got to give a fair call and you know cuz you don't want you don't want to be saying oh yeah throw prove a game and you know the guy was really safe but you know that one was kind of tough I mean it wasn't I mean I don't think it was as close as you know people think I mean I thought he was out for a good four and a half and it's just one of those takes you know it's I'm just lost for words I mean it's tough that it was tough to watch and and I got to a long- performance and you know I just feel so bad for everything you describe the celebration you guys had for him and jumped on him and gave him a hug and had a little shower for him and it was just something fun you know I mean he picked the game at night and like we said in our eyes it's a perfect game you know I mean I go down in baseball history but I can see I could be a part of I could tell him you know I've been a part of one and it's tough but you know it was kind of it's kind of a weird it was kind of a weird mix of emotions in here after the game you know we won the game but it was kind of like you know you were kind of silent you didn't know how to take it I don't know it was you I've never seen you as emotional as you were after the game of this point can you just describe what was going through your mind as you were conversing with Joyce postgame I was just more frustrated than anything because I mean he's our teammate and he works hard and it's just unfortunate is to come down to a call like that and and and him not get it you know it's you know I like I said I know Jim and I have all the respectable fun I enjoy being back and he's behind the plate I enjoy but I think it was more out of frustration me getting on I mean you know feeling bad for Galarraga you go that long to a game and you make your last pitch and and you make the play and you get out and that's not a tough play they made right there for the last out and you make it I mean you know no one wanted it more than his teammates for him you know we were all jumping running on the field he called him safe it's one of those things where we were just shocked at first and I think I think the emotions and being frustrated took over a little bit after the game you guys as athletes are always looking for an edge is it too much to say that this kind of game can band you guys together and build a little momentum to ride on there's this game just too much day-to-day base you know I mean definitely I mean we needed a performance like this you know he came out and we actually did we hit the ball harder tonight a lot of balls hard and we scored three runs but it was a lift that we needed for Galarraga and I think it could be a lift it does bring us together you know we're a good ballclub and we know we can win a lot of games and we know it could score two runs so you know it's just one of those games where you know I think it's you definitely bring us together and get us on a roll thanks Joe all right Gerald Laird selling up a roller coaster of emotions for the Tigers this evening first base umpire Jim Joyce has issued a couple of comments one of them saying I just cost that kid a perfect game he believed he got the call right at the time but upon looking at the replay realized he had missed it well Johnny Damon certainly has been on championship teams he's played for historic franchises including the Tigers like all of us and all those at Comerica Park tonight he'd get great appreciation for what what he was witnessing from Armando Galarraga Trevor Thompson is able to hustle over to his locker as we take you back into the Tigers Clubhouse Johnny's seen a lot of baseball and seen a lot of great pitching performances during your time in the majors how does Armando's performance rank tonight with what you've seen that was definitely one of the best that I've seen you know I I was fortunate enough to see Roger Clemens pitching against me and strike out 19 guys before but tonight was something special you know not only for our team but for the guys from Venezuela I mean there's been one no Heather Wilson Alvarez and amando threw the ball great and unfortunately that we had that call but deep down this team though it's going to look at it as a perfect game pretty emotional for you guys to see him get robbed like that but Jim said you guys gave him a beer shot when he got in here and they say he made 28 straight out what's it say about team camaraderie you guys came together for him after the game like well I mean we're in this together and there mondo went out that stuck with his game plan got us a victory which we definitely needed you know we we wish we could be celebrating a bit more we know what he accomplished and and you know hopefully now he can build off of this you know hopefully the hopefully he'll have another opportunity to get a perfect game I mean it's been amazing what's happened in Major League Baseball this year especially how good the hitters are I think the pitchers are making a comeback I mean it this could have been number three this year number one for Venezuela but I unfortunately we just have to wait for another one as an outfielder break down they catch that Austin Jackson me the kids amazing I mean when the ball was hit I think everybody on the bench just said kind of put their head down for a second and followed the ball but when he came up with it we all just went crazy on this that's I've gotta say that's the best catch all year I mean the circumstance how far he had to go nobody can go and get the ball like like Austin I mean he's to me he's the best right now and he's just a rookie [Music] [Applause] hi everybody i'm mickey york for those of you watching the re-air of last night's postgame show we're breaking in to bring you the very latest on the fallout from Armando Galarraga sneer perfect game last night umpire Jim Joyce will work behind the plate today even though Major League Baseball gave him the option to take the day off Joyce met with the media again this morning to reiterate his sincere apology for missing the call at first base to cost Galarraga the 21st perfect game in major league history and Galarraga again met with the media this morning repeating he will hold no ill will towards Joyce and understands nobody's perfect and he in fact is ready to move on you say things happen for a reason but can you figure out the reason behind you know really well you know it is what it is and nobody can change you now and I mean I'm happy how me throwing in you know I'm I know you all you guys happy and believe there's not a 20 all the time one say how many perfect games gonna be there's gonna be a twenty gonna mention my perfect game twenty hours more specially because I throw a perfect game in twenty hours no word from Major League Baseball potentially overturning last night's call that seems unlikely at this point but we are expecting a statement from the league sometime today Mario and Pemba and rod Allen are getting ready to call today's game and they join us now from Comerica Park and guys I'm I was hoping this was all a bad dream but maybe like Armando said it's time to move on I think you're right making I think Armando is right and look you know the Sun came up today the grass is still green we're all here and I think we have to keep all of this in perspective rod but it was very very disappointing last night but it just goes to show you the best what's great about this game in some ways that is played by humans is umpired by humans and Jim Joyce made a mistake he admitted it we just need to move on now there's no debate about that I think Jim Leyland said it best when talking about the beauty of the game of baseball that we love is the fact that Austin Jackson makes a sensational playing the outfield but yet the game's decided on that ground ball off of the bat of guys a Bud Selig still has the authority to potentially overturn this call in your opinions what's the likelihood that's going to happen well in my opinion I don't think it's going to happen and I'm not sure it should happen I think we all know that our mondo pitched a perfect game he knows that he pitched a perfect game it's just not gonna be in the record book it is very very disappointing but when you start overturning things like this Ron in my opinion at least you open up a box of snakes that is really potentially very dangerous looking back and looking forward how many points are well-taken but if there was ever a situation where they could think about overturning something it would be in a situation like this I mean this kid was robbed from throwing the 21st perfect game in major league history I don't know how you would do it but I guarantee you but Selig and his staff they're huddled there talking about this and I know they were asking themselves this same possible question but if there was ever a situation where it may lead to them looking at replays late in games this is going to be that situation guys a pardon the pun on words but I believe the city of Detroit is a perfect opportunity today to show them a lot of class and maybe give Jim Joyce a hand when he comes up behind home plate today what's the likelihood you think that'll happen down there this afternoon well you know what and Jim Leyland said the same thing before the game McCann I grew in it part of me kind of wishes they would announce Jim Joyce as the home plate umpire today to let these fans know that hey look they have forgiven him let's move on with this whole thing I don't think it's going to happen but there is certainly an opportunity today for the fans to show their class and to show how classy of a city this is well Detroit has some of the best fans in the world there's no debate about that and our mondo has a tremendous glow on his face today he had a tremendous glow on his face last night even after he saw the replays he still felt the same way he said Jim Joyce came over to him and had tears in his eye and really didn't know what to say and Armando said to Jim Joyce just give me a hug I saw Jim Joyce this morning when he was going to the umpires room and I've known for 25 years since I was a player in the minor leagues and I gave him a hug - he didn't have his wife last night didn't have his two children he didn't sleep last night he cried he gave me a hug and then he wouldn't let go this man is truly truly heartbroken over what happened last night so he's the one that's feeling it just like everybody else guys are you surprised that he decided to work behind the plate today and what might Rick Porcello strikes don't look like this afternoon I'm not surprised at all I think Jim joy should work the plate today and obviously I think Major League Baseball was trying to think of whether or not he should work the plate today but you know what throw Mike back on this on the horse get it back in the saddle let's just move on with this thing and I think it's good that he's working behind the plate today maybe not to this magnitude Mickey but there's been several of us that have had bad days in our lives and we've had to go to work that's just part of the nature of the beast that he has to do so so that's where we are Lomond o Galarraga right now Mickey is is being introduced here at the ballpark he's actually bringing the lineup card out to the plate today and this is something that Jim Leyland thought about what a gesture to have Armando Galarraga come out and hand out the lineup card today rod this is just beautiful to see look at the look on his face Jim Lee was a classy man we know that much and one thing I said about Armando just a few seconds ago the fact that he has got a tremendous glow on his face about this entire situation his teammates they realize what he did and Jim Leyland is one classy manager in the organization is classy as well now how about this Armando Galarraga today is being presented with this a Chevy Corvette hello now now you and I ride we need to try and throw some perfect games to get us one of these but Armando Galarraga can't believe what's going on right now so graciously has decided to give him a Corvette tonight last night's game when he got back into the clubhouse his team treated him like he threw the perfect game with a nice little shower to help him remember it all of the Tiger teammates making on here this is really a special moment it's amazing how the Tigers have really haven't taken what potentially could be a huge negative and they turned this into a huge positive and again none of this rod I think is possible without the class and the grace of this man right here a mondo even after he saw the replay last night and he visibly saw that Donald was out he still had the same mentality and he is special there's no debate about that when I first laid eyes on Armando when he came up in 2008 there was something about him that said that this is a special human being and he displayed that last night as a matter of fact he went beyond that last night and this is what being a teammate is all about his teammates are on the on the field right now as Galarraga gets his car and he's believe you know the one thing he said earlier today Ron is he was asked who did you call after the game he said I called my dad I talked to my dad and what did your dad say he said son I'm proud of you we know you threw a perfect game continue to do what you do but know this I am really really proud of you and when he said those words it's almost as if most people started to choke up in that tub and that media gathering table you know as I said I dropped some tears last night for Galarraga as I continued to watch replay after replay and then when I got to the ballpark this morning I dropped some tears for Jim Joyce so it's just a very very emotional evening it's an emotional day but it's one that we're gonna have to kind of let go and it's one that we're gonna have to move on from and and I just hope that all that went on last night leading up to where we are right now just kind of helps jumpstart the city helps jumpstart the Tigers and they can move forward and go ahead and give this city what they deserve is an outstanding baseball team guys Game three of this three-game series with the Indians coming up next here on Fox Sports Detroit Mario ride back with a call in just a moment back here Comerica Park Mario and Pemba alongside rod Allen glad you're with us here this afternoon on what has turned out to be a special day here at the ballpark Cleveland of the Tigers wrapping up this series of course what transpired here yesterday rod is made news all around the country and really all around the world and it's amazing the impact this game can have but it's amazing how Armando Galarraga reacted to the the happenings last night and I think the Tigers organization as a whole Armando Galarraga Jim Joyce everybody has acted so professional here Jim Leyland it's really kind of been a joy to see despite what happened last night what's a classy organization there's no debate about that and starts at the top with mr. Mike Ilitch and his entire family trickles down through the general manager dave dombrowski and of course Leland's the one that keeps all those guys under control once they get down there in his clubhouse so it's just a very very special organization and baseball is such a tremendous game and that's why you had so many emotions across the country about this my flown from been blowing up since last night until all this morning you know we were meeting with Jim Leyland this morning you said you know what guys I'm thinking about doing something what do you think I want Armando Galarraga to bring the lineup card out to home plate and to Jim Joyce today Jim Leyland was asking the media I'm kicking this around what do you guys think and everybody just erupted in his office that is an unbelievable idea and it's really just a great gesture I think for Jim Lee but wait until it's it's orchestrated here when Jim Joyce walks out and our mando walks over I think that's going to be part of the recovery for Jim Joyce it's not going to get past what happened and the call that was missed but it's going to help and aid in him recovering knowing that these players that these players have forgiven him you know one of the things that we saw last night and you touched on this during the telecast the catch by Austin Jackson now we're talking about Willie Mays esque and had that perfect game beneficial Jackson would be just as big a deal today is her mondo Galarraga no there's no debate about that I mean and Jackson says so himself and I talked to him again just to verify the words that he spoke in the newspaper he said when that ball left he was playing Brazil onic over in right-center field because that's where grows ilanic does most of his damage in the ball went up and all you saw was a number 14 tracking the ball to center field and somehow someway he's able to run it down well here they come the four-man umpiring crew is headed out to the field right now Jim Joyce play the home plate umpire there is Jim Joyce crossing the right now and hopefully Tigers fans will give him a hand you can see the emotion on the face of Jim Joyce so amazing this is something that he has obviously never had to deal with in his career he is trying to deal with it right now he is trying to hold back the tears and Jim Joyce is standing up like a man today and he is calling balls and strikes and he has just taken the lineup card not only is he standing up like a man today but he stood up like a man last night after he made the call Jim choice wiping away the tears as he takes the Tigers lineup card in the India's lineup card as well and here's a man that has been umpiring in the major leagues for over 20 years he has seen it all and he has done it all but he has not done what happened last night and has not experienced that and now a handful Galarraga as he walks back what a special moment here today [Applause]
