yeah I see em yeah some cookies yeah we'll try that from jockeys Oh watch the that's not nerve racking all isn't super scary nice little bit on the horizon dogs like that's a huge whale but it's not going back in the water yeah like me that wasn't that was a friendly approach they are a hundred miles from Colombia the nearest town tamaco T um a co thing must been Columbia and they were very friendly I see one vote on a is that was a massive ship it can't be connected to them but they must be part of a mothership somewhere I'm Darrell moving yeah basically I was probably one of the better encounter sequester idea that I could oh yeah which is a good time to discuss why we aren't going to Columbia yes so we're not going to Columbia because it's not supposed to be safe everything we've read is stay 20 nautical miles offshore because of people on shore looking for votes on the horizon and there's really only a couple spots take a boat in like ours we had friends that actually went in and they told us it's not safe they literally were there a month ago anyway I really really wanted to go to Columbia but it's just not maybe another day by plane that's why we're skipping alum yeah if you were wondering what do you think about that I mean I didn't like it definitely rattled but I guess it was expected and not expected all at the same time I thought we're far enough out I didn't think we were gonna see any little books like that but I've read about it and I know lots of other people have had that happen and it's fairly common around here and most the time it's just fishermen or whatever coming up to ask for food and that's what it seems like but you can't help it I'm nervous now I'm forced about her too much because you're thinking are they coming back are they going to a mothership like it's silly and you can't live in fear so you just gotta suck it up your watches I don't know feels kind of like you're at their mercy if they do show up you can try to keep them off your pillow but at some point get there we want to get on board they want to take your stuff I feel like they're gonna do it no but you can't live in fear so forge ahead at the border there's a boat coming up behind us 11:45 they're way off in the distance we had all of our lights off they're not showing up on the radar it's really weird we're still 80 miles he's got his bright lights flashing somebody good and not somebody bad I turned on our our tricolor so he has somebody good either way he sees us so I don't want to surround the big light in here just in case 5 a.m. [Music] I usually love my night-watches like really like them file them in essence they're out stars they're out it's just a really beautiful thing it's really hard to describe kind of like the feeling in the sensation and especially when you're under sail because it's just the wind propelling you and pulling you to your destination I don't know it's really it's not just like a sense of peace it's more like your no amazement like you feels like magic sometimes being out here and you think all I can always think about is the movie and the book Life of Pi and I think about the way he described seen things and you think though he's making things up that stuff is real I mean fly mission blowing creatures and it really is magical anyway today not so much I feel very distracted on we've had you know the boat earlier today and then Jason admin counter tonight and it is shipping like a cargo ship passing in front of us but it's like six miles out since no worries but all of a sudden I could see another light come on so another ship decided to light itself up obviously because they didn't want to get hit by that cargo ship well as soon as they were inside of the cargo ship they then shut their lights down again and I thought well maybe they're sailing vessel or something similar to ourselves and they're just the keeping the lights off stay low-key because of where we are and it is kind of a dangerous territory for getting hassled and you never know what's gonna happen anyway they shut their lights off so I've been really really like super paying attention and then I can kind of see a light little flickering light and it was pointed you know also put the port bow and then it's often served about and then it's behind us and then it's directly behind in anyway I'm sure fisherman or whatever it is they're doing out here I don't know man it makes you like super on edge and I don't like it it's also the realities of this lifestyle like some nights are just not going to be filled with whatever sometimes it's just going to be you're gonna have to pay a lot close attention the other issues I don't want to hit one of those small though lots of emotions thoughts running through my head and trying to listen to my podcasts to distract myself and a bun from everything from like daily podcast to a food podcast so I'm listening to the feed now anyway crazy night man I'm glad that night is over it's 6:00 a.m. day five and had probably three or four other boats come close but none as scary as that one and that happened that it was just like in front of us and then to the side of us right behind us that lied on me when stuff like this happens we have plans we feel confident our a proper solution but we're not going to tell you what those are because we feel like security and safety between you and your loved ones and people on the vessel donut is what our exact plan is because we don't want everybody in the world to know now let's get back to sailing we haven't stopped sailing for geez kicked off the engines yesterday afternoon we've been sailing the whole time I just tacked and we've got 135 nautical miles left but tacking and everything is probably about like 36 hours another day now of course another day no big deal getting close almost on the border of Ecuador in Colombia what you got us arrived home or night [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] kind of lingering back there yeah it's amazing seventy miles take charge I almost ran my help [Music] that's one of their markers right there you have no idea how they find that out here the middle of the ocean is just so I can practice my evening too he's wanted to see me very much don't you oh this line got caught around the problem I guess when we kept and now I gotta go get hopefully the only taken same dupa Jason I really don't want to do this 10,000 feet of water it's kind of dark and stormy it's your boat Nikki you should do it yeah but it's your watch I can see it it's just wrapped around one fit of the problem I just got to turn the prop [Music] earlier success you work I didn't get the key though I wasn't look blue and deep and we're only doing like all right like it - not current so we're moving it - not so it's actually pretty exciting [Music] [Music] look what I woke up to Lando I guess sometime in the middle of the night we got close to land so we are getting close probably have bed hair but yeah wow we're almost there [Music] you always know the cats are doing okay when they're drinking and poof this whole trip every day they've been eating drinking so pink pink a lot so I think the cats as you can see are totally fine they do sleep a lot okay let me get him off T seconds later yeah T seconds later he got himself off great very end just lucky yeah and we'll get a bigger brother [Music] welcome to Ecuador Hey [Applause] feeling [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] we're having a very special captain's our aboard today unexpectedly feel so guilty all right well deal is we are about to cross the equator it's coming up and we did not do our homework properly because we didn't realize we were going to be crossing the equator on this sail in my head I just had that we were crossing the equator on the way to the blog post but I was wrong we were crossing the equator today on this sail and technically there's like a whole thing like ceremony yeah Kate sender before so she's supposed to be a she's our experienced sailor technically we should just blame it on her you should know these things I should I said but it was like six seven years ago don't use old agent members before in your 30s that's in you a lot of music oh okay so there's supposed to be a whole ceremony and a thing and you were supposed to be our neptune but you're supposed to hug it nude I ain't swim around the boats Jason was very excited about that part oh yeah don't judge me we will not be doing that today because we don't have the ceremony so I we don't know what it is so instead we're gonna offer a little sacrifice make a toast and hope that that we have not completely piss off they got to the gods of the sea the guys of the wind the gods of the ocean in case you're different than the ones from the sea please take pity on us please show us mercy we are sorry we're not naked I am sorry we're not naked thank you for letting us sail through the equator yeah and granting a safe passage for the rest of our southerly sails saalu the health prosperity fairways become pain calm seas and offering of our finest d navy strenghten small Bastion I'm sorry I might have make a little bit guys say we should I know I think we're are you what I'm gonna tell you about that without iron without ya that ISM yeah I just just went up there took all those set screws out put Loctite in tighten them back down because they were coming out it down right before we left and now they have completely come out not as separated which just pisses me off because I just tended to that so something is not right shouldn't come out like that I'm angry about that we have not crossed the equator yet so this is not due to us not doing the ceremony this is happening right before they're not connected I have decided [Applause] we only had half of one cocktail so it's not really a party yeah calm down calm down mister I want to get naked it's 3:05 my shift just started hopefully it's the last shift of the sale unfortunately because our Genoa Fuhrer was basically falling apart we we decided to furl it in and would be a motoring for the past six hours which kind of stinks cuz we have seven eight not to win we could have been sailing even slowly sailing towards their destination the deal is we have to arrive close to high tide and we have to hire a pilot boat to get us in to the port because we're actually staying in a river so it's not the ocean we're like a river just a tiny bit the sandbars move like crazy apparently you can't just navigate it yourself or so that's what we've read so we're sort of out here just cruising at two and a half three knots slowly making our way towards our destination Bahia de Caracas we're only eight miles out but we've got three hours for sunrise and four hours for high tide [Music] with Romy's gods where all my stuff is curiosity Oh baby thank you very much I'm kind of freaking out because we've been here for an hour floating in this swell and thankfully a cruiser or some yacht II was monitoring the radio and he hailed me he's gonna drop his dinghy and we are going to hear back from him Poquelin shortly be fine for Patagonia hopefully she's high tide like literally slack high tide straight-up is right now and that's exactly what we see here yeah did you see them almost crashing waves super-soak alright now that was romantic okay we're about to check into Ecuador and I think this is your very first sale without Rufus right every sale I've done as an adult but with your other half so what's it been like sailing about Rufus it's being it's been good and it's been weird it's almost like phantom limbs missing kind of thing I'm so used to having you there all the time and what it's been really good you have different experience and be like pushed out of that comp assignment section once you know if something if I'm worried about something or whatever it is like noise are behind him and this is because sorry babe I love you but no and it's been great isn't something great to see how you guys do things and experience that as well because I'm so used to like our routine and it's really nice to be in a different routine and I love how you guys do things and how you paint things special everyday you don't just go into like hibernation mode like see watch sleep watch like we make an effort to make really nice meals and that's nice cocktails stuff like that which is which is very okay I can read between the lines and what I got from that is Rufus is militant you sleep you watch and you eat dry bread that's it nothing else usually just the two of us and so if you're at sea for 35 days and it's just the two of you doing like wow watch this real watches and it's on monohull it's not on it comes with camera so you're constantly doing this and you have to you only get like three hours Bible in between and you do not want it cooks you just like grab orange or something stuff it in your face and then lie down you know so how many ocean crossings have you've done cuz you've done the Atlantic yeah I've done Midland so it kept about 2012 from South Africa to Brazil I Caribbean Sea and then I didn't the Pacific I'll jump from Panama to French Polynesia and that was 2016 so I'm sitting in about the last night shake was about just over 25,000 Oracle's now I yourself though thanks for being a part of our problem thanks texted me obsessed and asked to tell you to raise your anchor we're just out here floating near the shallows of the mouth of the river don't like you guys are good so don't let's back this icky night over thank you so much so it's curiosity back to 6-9 gotta love our fellow cruisers yeah super nice in our fishing boat or our pilot buddies do a Sunnah pilot solace is curiosity hey yeah what's up hey there's two guys here they're not going to get on the boat I just want me to follow them and his name is Gina Kareena on the side of this boat that's not the pilot is it boat that little guy got on my boat and and I had him steer the boat in over definitely wait for audio so perfect Thank You sandy five six and then enter turn leaving here comes the real pilot so they were like okay and like a pro CL USC am oh Jesus mucho gusto [Music] all right adios those take it over man you should have seen it kind of employers while they're doing that wasn't president he's uh probably yeah it's probably gonna get rough so he probably put everything away oh yeah on your own [Music] Wow we're like a hundred yards from the wall these are our three foot swells I know Holly colonel and the steering's easy keeps looking I like a so ordered it's crazy I I would have been super stressed out like piloting through this my salesmen miss Novak we've got a loss or he's gonna go yeah it's probably very true yeah just really shallow like a year and a half ago they had a massacre tellers buildings elzar payee document ACOD e solo go no copy 20 kidnap already now I thought that an older thought about a photo uh solamente Pony check it say you were lucky so he's actually gonna check us in yes see those got those yeah as Cleo Neil Gaiman's Ariosto all have our original documentation as he said he's gonna help us check in passports official documentation and zarf a from panama the government officials are gonna come here look at our boat and then we'll go into the office and double back turn up turn up ah universe what I see oh man it's been like six hours now and the customs people have not come we've been told we can go to the marina that's what we're gonna do just tick it off and at least go talk to guys there get scooped because we are excited to be here and I'm like itching to go ashore now that we're here but ya know I felt like it was a really good passage I mean other than like the sketchy you know boats coming up in the middle of the night and all of that but aside from that it was a really good passage we had nice weather for the most part very mild weather and I mean it was nice being out at sea it was not itching to get to land but now that we're here I'm like super anxious to go explore my big camera the card was full so heads pick at the door couldn't shoot anything but an Ecuador flag we found out that the I think you have an upside-down Ecuador flag here okay we found out that guy's going to come tomorrow at 11 o'clock to check us in he wanted to give us a day to breathe the guy that owns this marina well it's called the marina but there's not really a marina it's just mooring balls right now in Anchorage $5 a day nicest guy it's gonna let us ride with them to the big town so we get groceries I think awesome guy from Florida I've got some friends here that we just met the one dude that solace that helped us get in we're gonna go buy on a beer tonight chillax little [ __ ] tell people that oh yeah know where we're gonna go to sleep we are not leaving the boat I promise technically we're just going to the marina sit still okay yeah yeah we're just relax put the cameras away 11 o'clock we'll be here and finish this video up that's supposed to be my cut yeah yeah that was epic [Music] [Laughter] we've made really good friends here a couple of years lots of stories in Spanish in English they're helping us practice you'll practicar espanol hola [Laughter] [Laughter] what's up
