sometimes we reflect on how we saw the world before sailing halfway around it before we visited some of the most remote villages and before we ventured out on the high seas it's impossible to go back to that mindset now but if we were to sum it up we used to be scared [Music] we're just off the coast mindanao here there's a couple guys here they wanted to do it's 2:00 a.m. the hands are loba shaking Thank You Mac they have like full speed turning off all of my running lights all my navigation lights now we're gonna go dark see what happens I'm Ben that's Ashley together we did the unimaginable we sold everything and then set off on a mission to sail around the world civilization see you later [Music] 20 countries later and over 25,000 nautical miles we're only halfway around the world subscribe to follow the adventure as we finish this left there's a dude fishing right out here but I'm not sure what it still is it's a huge bed and especially within two meters of our boat this is part of boat life you never know what these guys are up to tom tests are just curious sometimes their actual fishermen sometimes they're pretending to fish he's fishing a little close for my comfort whatever the International Maritime Bureau monitors and reports all incidents of piracy Patsey we have been observing this information closely militants in the Philippines conduct attacks against both commercial and private yachts to rob and kidnap crews for ransom multiple boardings and kidnappings have taken place in the Sulu and celibacy believed to be the work of a group affiliated with the Abu Sayyaf from what we could determine these incidents were relatively contained our passage down the Mindanao coast took place on the 20th of May unbeknownst to us there have been an attempted pirate attack on a bulk air ten days earlier a mere 80 miles from the route we took south alarm was raised crew mustered and fire hoses were pressurized we don't have fire hoses nor carry assault rifles required to fend off true militants all we can do is go dark at night and try to go when the weather is rough this is the story of our voyage from Mindanao to Indonesia [Applause] where is everybody this is the weirdest place like there's no one around a single tourist and then there's like houses here that look like they belong in the Alps and then a waterslide with some sort of crazy mouth on it it's really kinda almost like creepy cool cool that's kind of creepy man like there's no one around we find that I don't know it's just we can you think this little babe and we haven't seen many boats today there's been a few go by but there's like a whole little miniature world in here where the tourists we found some people that check out the number of roosters there's so many cocks here it's crazy they're breeding them for fighting apparently how many five hundred there's a fairly 500 roosters here I like your hair where do you sell them to Mindanao you guys what this your home home home [Music] I'm not as strong as you man I got it up like a little bit how that's pretty good she just pushes the button that's like cheating man that was super freaky the boat just started to totally shake and we're motoring because we're hanging straight into the wind and what is it that's a plastic bag I thought we'd lost the propeller but that is so freaky man [Applause] [Music] that's a big bag [Music] water is really clear though it's like super clear ii swim of the day it's not even 9:00 o'clock me as your mother would say coffee your coffee lady coffee i would love some coffee love milk sugar cream what do you want you know that i want my coffee with milk I don't know how you take yours quino's I we've been together well Wow check out the sun's peeking through this now [Music] [Music] sailing offshore is basically just hours and hours of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror not much goes on there here there's a bunch of water some birds maybe some fish out here in the Pacific there's not that many boats the occasional tanker maybe some illegal fishing vessels and honestly you don't really want to bump into anyone it's pretty remote we're just off the coast of Mindanao here there's a couple guys here they want me to do they're in this tiny little boat it's kind of crazy man it's freaky it's windy out it's super windy and we're in this it's almost like the Gulf Stream it's accused current going down to Costa Mindanao these guys are coming up beside us there's a mother ship way you can't see it way up there there copy they're waving we're gonna go pass them some Ritz crackers some apples and maybe some water I don't know poor guys wrap out here well throw them a couple cans of tuna too absolutely nuts there's a story of another Cruiser that gave these guys something not these guys different guys and then they just swarmed by so many more will see it we'll see more come crazy little boat though ya southern Philippines has different fishing bozos or like we call them the slipper boats they're cool we gonna give them are they came back and they're giving us a fish I'm gonna give them duck confit [Music] to me no pirates just friendly fishermen wanting to treat food for fish it's just polite already dinners in the making and these guys were amazing I guess it talks to the bigger message which is there's altruism out here everywhere it's it's awesome it's awesome to see awesome to experience awesome to give it's always interesting because I always wish I'd given more at the end and I didn't expect anything in return I just sort of thought oh maybe they want a little snack for when they're on the boat and I threw them some Ritz crackers a couple of apples and a couple cans of tuna and here they are bringing out the fish back and I didn't expect I'd and they're soaked in their little boat and they came back again and they're soaked even more is like we're sitting here on their fancy yacht and they're giving us stuff like that's just crazy that's just altruism to its finest we have a bag of I've stopped to give like old t-shirts tank tops that kind of thing and I got it out we have found nothing but goodness out here and nothing but amazing people and nothing but fantastic experiences and yes it can happen that they're not great people fades so where it's so rare in life that I think you really do have to trust that 90% of 99.9% of everyone coming up to you is a wonderful person and take the risk to believe it because I think it's worth they have you have a way better life if you take that risk I think that's an awesome way to say it that's perfect take the risk and you'll be rewarded I'm pretty I'm pretty impressed man that was cool I hope it changes your guys's mind a little bit [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] let's guys are so friendly there's actually another mothership up there are you from yeah you're from that one okay we're giving out more stops the boat's gonna be a light within that day I take [Music] yeah what is he a skipjack I don't know my view a stereotyped one I'm surprised they go like this which means food and I think it means food or or drinks like they don't want they don't want cigarettes they don't want alcohol they just want food so poor dude it's bad I feel for them they all like the fish though they're not hungry yeah lots of fish and I vote it is it's not very late it's just like beginning on my shifts job and the storms aren't going off like crazy going off I can't decide if I should go around it or it's just like I'm not gonna be able to rush remotely like a this on camera but it's pretty cool like electrical storms are intense and awesome and really cool I can't see it on radar I'm not actually sure how far away it is because you can't see it on radar and I've already headed up 20 degrees to around it but I think I don't think I'm gonna be able to I think it's just gonna come right across which is just part of life but it sucks let's go check it out see if you can see this but this little very in front of us he's just started to blow up it's pretty active so I don't know it's crazy I don't actually know which way it's traveling again I still can't seen on radar usually they have a lot of moisture in them and so you can steam on writer but I don't know if these do you might not be raining under them so we'll see I don't know we're getting closer and I can't I don't think I can go around it so we'll go through let's see that goes the area we were entering is called the Tri border region a triangle between Indonesia Philippines and Malaysia states lack the funds to govern the sprawling territorial seas so illicit activities such as fishing and smuggling of weapons and drugs thrive just got checked out by massive fishing vessel it's 2 a.m. my hands are a little bit shaking I came at me like full speed I got within like 500 links and then turned away on the radio that no dice name is turning off all of my running lights all my navigation lights now I'm off before but he still found me just a full moon so I guess he can see me we're like here this to Levis see which is like southern part of mindanao southern part of both means and I don't once you have any encounters with anyone down here so we're gonna go dark crazy that's the moon up there what the phone is lighting up absolutely everything like daylight we got five miles to go five we're gonna be in gonna be rockin beers in like she says an hour you're gonna have to go so slow we're just brand away which is our first stop in Indonesia but in the northern part of the Raja Ampat area much later than we would have liked arrived but we just couldn't we've been walking huge currents this trip and we couldn't go fast enough to get em before daylight ended but what's crazy is check this out this would now be on it and I think tonight we're gonna be anchored on land I can almost guarantee it because if you look this year the island is not yeah-ha does not stall it if you look on satellite imagery where here it shows is a solid lump so you can't ever expect to arrive with Navionics and be okay you have to have your satellite imagery with the charts out here just shit it's midnight hook is safely down San MIG light on Indonesian soil doesn't get much better now today and we are just unwinding from quite an epic journey in here we'll show you on the way out but it's kind of like long winding narrow passage up through this island into this gorgeous little looking spot but it won't really be able to see it stay tuned
