it's possible that is the year what is it here what's the bottle beer hint to to 1450 we were talking about the classic foot post Plaza there in a while so not surprised the next era is the early modern era so in 1450 like Renaissance boom that's also begin a VP euro so begin of AP euro like period 1 AP euro is period before AP world alright so post quasi was Tennessee you to for 250 C so basically what's gonna happen here is we have the collapse of all of those classical empires and we have the beginning of these new empires so there's any new governmental systems new ethnic groups new whoever the new empires to those part and also new trade networks and new religions too so that's what we're talking about this error a lot of stuff plus stuff so the first one we'll talk about is action Empire it might be the only one well it's one of the only ones that continues through the classical to the post class we'll whole way through and that is the Byzantine Empire all right so Byzantine Empire that was oh what's that by the way what it used to be nope Roman Empire you see the Roman Empire right so if you guys remember correctly what we're talking about like that guys I'm fun yeah focus up alright so Roman Empire it since split into half roughly here and the 300 capable exactly here three hundred three hundred and thirty that's the it is three thirty this is gonna actually split Rome to the split to about 1453 officially in some rooms in the split feast and West and I don't mean east-west schism like religiously I mean like politically so we have this little ring here of the East in the West so we've got a guy named Constantine who also like to Christianity and he's gonna move the capital from Rome like the city of Rome to was now Istanbul is a Constantinople and that is in what is roughly three that the area of Greece now they're gonna call themselves Romans but Rome is gonna officially conquered by pirate barbarians and that Empire ended in like 45 I think in Germanic tribes the long arms do that so they're not really actually Rome anymore but they call themselves Romans what are they over the most part they're Greek right there Greek so they call themselves Romans all Romans but they're actually Greek okay so they continue this half of the Empire or that roughly a thousand years we'll little over that while the West West does fall so the West crumbles and falls to Germanic invaders the Goths and the Lombards etc there is a period in like the five hundred swear Justinian doesn't read conquer the West but they lose it shortly after it is too hard to hold on to so for the most part we focus here on the eastern part of the Mediterranean that's the Byzantine Empire so we'll start with that but the Byzantine Empire [Music] let's start with what Constantine started this by the way so Constantine started missing wood he made the capital go from Rome to what to Constantinople okay you want to be closer to to Rome's main rival the main rival the Romans have are after the Greeks the Hellenistic Greeks conquer Persia and when they fall perchik kind of pops back up again I think it's called the Sossaman Empire I believe that's another part that's kind of their main rival for a while so if you like moves it closer to the main rival is his supply line to be closer alright because they have like forts and things like that to protect those supply lines as they're getting further from realms he just moves the capital closer to make those supply lines and force much easier to manage yeah he's the one that like established this new capital and sort of officially unofficially split the two empires they're supposed to slip or named together be one empire but they were kind of run into different on two different sizes and like I said very very shortly after the West western part of the Empire actually just totally falls completely now the reason why they moved again is because it was really hard for them to take all their money and supplies and troops and follow them all the way over here to fight Persia like they set up forts and supply lines to do this but it was really difficult so Constantine just wanted to move his capital closer to these supply lines and troops and one that could be closer that's why it does it but ends up kind of splitting the Empire so they split and in 45 the West Falls completely like I said the Germans or the Germanic tribes long bars and the Goths etc they conquer and this this this whole half just sort of dissipates so West Roman Empire and 485 again that's dramatic tribes so there is one effort like I mentioned to reconquer this western part of the Empire and that was like the height of the Byzantine Empire it's a dude named Justinian his wife Theodora 40 but and this isn't need 500 so what exactly what here he does this 500 works the f 527 565 German and all tribes 500 c3 punker but they also lose it very quickly as well rivals the Sassanid Empire Persia closer to Persia who was their main uh main rival hmm hold you guys catch this one man this is a tough point this is one of the first topics he just like literally never heard of before this class at all like your this stuff usually you kind of like at least mentioned before but nothing so far yeah question Oh Gothic tribes Goths I don't mean like the way people dress actual real dolls got that okay so Justinian and Theodora which is his wife oh nice little women's history moment here she was a pretty strong yeah there was I think during the Justinian the plague of Justinian it's got the name after him there was sort of a revolt and in concepts and other people sort of rebelled and Justin II was about to leave abandon his empire and his wife was like I'm the Empress I'm not leaving you should stay - so he's like all right and he stays and they end up actually defeating the rebellion and so that needs to continue essentially she's largely responsible for that so we gave her there's a woman's history moment there for you also just sitting is famous for a couple things a recon Goering the West but also he's very famous or is that well the plague of course but also this thing called Justinian's code and this is a very influential code in Western civilization it is a couple things close this what we're getting yeah so Justin's code here is gonna be a form of common law that the Romans have had this before but this is just another more caught by the First Amendment this is common law for all law or they started doing it but also it's a thing called a civil law and the idea behind civil law is this is where they start the idea of trying to create laws that are fair for everybody and I'm saying all of a sudden they eliminated all you know despairing the law but this is where they tried to start seeing it as like law for all citizens and again didn't mean it was all equalizing take to like the Enlightenment for that to happen but this is where the idea behind it starts oh how did laws work before like in the foundational and early classical eras like how why were laws that how to exist would they favor in line they hear me the higher-ups turn what was the point of that yeah to keep that Heinrich in place to keep those people in power at the top and keep those that were lower lower essentially this is where civil law start to become law more for all citizens it's more of a fair system a logical system one that we argued has to be proven this is where that pole I guess dynamic comes from so law for all citizens provable you start having like lawyers things like that attorneys these these these yeah this is where modern law starts develop I'm not saying all the sudden they have attorneys and juries and videos things like that but this is where those concepts start sort of begin to incept and germinate which means they're thought of and being developed so law law for all citizens provable like you start getting like you start getting like majors I guess did you say like in modern college terms like people start focusing on law and attorneys and things like then becoming attorneys things like that all right that's what just in Ian's coat is and that's why becomes famous so he's actually pretty he's probably the most famous Byzantine Emperor recog was the West the plagues named after him he almost fails was wife encourages him to stay and he also is responsible for establishing his losses and that applies to everybody but also is started sort of is the fundamental start of what Western law becomes guys got that it's actually quite a bit of things like you can't just say he did it on they ma like yeah it's like this is where you start to kind of have to have evidence like it's not just like oh the master said the slave did this when they get rid of it it's like you need evidence you start needing witnesses things like that now I must say it's a perfect system it's like fair or like it is now or spare to think of it but this is where those ideas start to begin some of those start in the West like in European areas because of the emphasis on reprimand logic in the lips that's why that's why the West is the way it is like that's why we have free speech that's why we have individual freedoms that's why I have all those things it was all started by Greek skepticism so that's why the West is the way it is that's why we that's why we started using light utilizing the capitalist system and things like that really never jealous and no those are not is not dominating hierarchy enforcing oppressive systems those are just systems that highlight individual choice and you utilizing logic and rationality to do it all right don't give me the whole credo principle rant so anyways that is the that's just any and like he's like said the most famous Byzantine Emperor so that's politics they also come up with sort of a new taxation system here it's based on peasants it's where peasants and others pay their tax in the form of labor yeah Corvalis right now it's not like this is brand-new but they really start large-scale using this poor guy labor system and again they pay taxes in labor to state so we started having what becomes later least in Western Europe like the feudal system and peasants by the way why does the feudal system start in western and northern Europe exactly when Rome Falls they have no centralized governor protected from themselves or other invaders so they start developing this local feudal system I'll get that later I just want to keep that in our brains here okay so that's labour and governments pulls it all the way because there's a bunch of annoying sneaker action going out there thank you I mean like I give you award for like the shoes all right that was not even close to the sound all right so religion there's also a big religious split that happens on about the same boundary here between the East and Western Empire you guys were with that one's called tendons born yeah the Great Schism of east-west schism right so in 1054 for the east-west schism are the Great Schism / creeks and again this goes back to like you know the Pope thinking he's sort of in charge of Christianity and the West Roman Empire and then of course the East countering that so anybody remember that system they started using in the East which which is its own block of religion now called Eastern Orthodox religion so hadoo steeples what's it called the West Roman Catholic Church yet in the West here we have the Roman Catholic Church different system where the emperor was both the political and religious leader of the states yes he's rope a visit right but that can be a problem because sometimes you're gonna have issues that the state has to deal with that are against your religious interests or you'll have religious issues that are against your state interests so it's these rope isn't going to be a good idea in the long run no right it's not going to say start with Caesar doesn't and again it doesn't work because you can't have a leader who has to devote himself to religious issues and also build the state not always have too much work but sometimes the state and religion don't see eye to eye like on things like taxes or punishments or religious toleration things like that so you have those conflicts so they can't really have the leader be both your political religious leaders are going to have to say separate at least in this case yep with Eastern Orthodox Church that's correct the reason why they're having the West is because does the Roman Empire exist in 1054 we know that is not it's been over five years or so super power since ninety years that self but you slowed the Roman Catholic Church so and that that Roman Catholic Church is going to control pretty much all of this area until the process of information so all right which we'll get to eventually okay see what's been on that so far all right so where do they put the head of this new Eastern Orthodox Church in 74 Constantinople which is what the capital right so Constantinople is the Imperial and religious capital religious capital David be huge Cathedral there yeah it's a big like almost don't like thing it's now a mosque at Hagia Sophia with these mosaics in it which is gonna like those tile pictures they put individual tiles to make these giant painting Friday Hagia Sophia mosaics mosaics were so cool that the Muslims that took over actually kept them so you still have like Mary and Jesus all right so that's the capital and who was the head of the church then it's not it's no longer the Caesar because the Edward it's just that conflict of interest so who is now the head of the Church in the Eastern Orthodox religion it is he's called the patriarch of Constantinople he's in charge and what hierarchy did they copy the Roman Catholic Church's hierarchy and who does the Roman Catholic Church copy for their hierarchy no no it's space system Roman Empire guys okay so the Catholics hierarchy at the top you have the Pope then you have the Cardinals and the bishops the priests and so so far the laity below that they actually copied a existing political system the Roman will dome in Catholic Church that's then was it copied it they copied the Roman Empire so if I were to have hope Cardinals bishops priests laying what system does this look like no man Empire so what formed the Roman Empire versions of these be not King Emperor right then I might have like governor's next and bishops I would may have like I don't know what was the charge of the towns right and then of course the priests and the ladies you go down you just go to like regular people or even slate to move me in quantum kind of the lady would like to see them as slaves but yeah so you have like the plebeians right okay these could be the patricians there we go plebeians and then a slave not that the lady slave but they sort of copy the idea that hierarchy of having one the top and then you court it's sort of like distribute power downward and outward Hagia Sophia and mosaics yep of course the ruler of that religion the Pope in the Eastern Orthodox Church is the patriarchal and don't refer don't forget they're gonna copy that exact structure from the Roman Catholic Church and don't forget also or the Roman Catholic Church's structures came from where did the Roman Catholic structure come from the Roman Empire itself yep okay and one more thing about rejean empire there were a couple of missionaries that spread this Eastern Orthodox religion out to the Slavic people of Eastern Europe converted most of them and the Balkans to they convert into the Balkans and Eastern Europe is Hammond Bruce area which we'll talk about in a moment you guys know who spread that yeah Cyril Methodius they are going to be missionaries that's spread it Cyril odious spread Eastern Orthodox Christianity to which people yeah often is an Eastern and what type or in those areas clog people yeah I they convert the cabin roofs and many people the Balkans or least we're a result of that silo Methodius for the missionaries for Eastern Orthodox religion any question of the Byzantine Empire that is both a political economic and and and religious topic yes Austrians plebeian slaves economic because they cope with a new labor system and I also forgot one thing they're going to help bolster some trade networks now what trade networks are they going to connect to they're gonna make make more improved you said yeah syndrome right they'll be doing a lot of training with the Mongols any notion they do connect to at least at one point yeah forced ready okay but most of the Mediterranean Sea trade network yeah so Mediterranean Silk Road and then to a much lesser extent but also there is median ocean trade network is a little bit involved at least until the Arabs take them out they don't do a whole lot trade to caliphates cuz like that's their mortal enemies they do something but yeah the fact they're a little salty too because it's like they should have beaten the herbs when they were doing their conquest it's like there was one battle they outnumber them like six to one and the Byzantine generals just screwed up strategically and lost and it was just like oops well that's that's for them alright so they do improve trade to like I said they improve trade in the network same crew were gonna be Mediterranean Sea trade networks Silk Road doesn't mean to you can say any notional but they don't the arabs kind of kick him out of that pretty quick so the Mediterranean own the Silk Road and again why do well trade network to do better with with large empires safer and allows more prosperity exactly yep it improved the Mediterranean Sea triggering the silk rose sure like you guys have heard of Venice right you have I've told you about the city-state of Venice the Venetians do a lot of trivia the Byzantine Empire in the Mediterranean Sea trade network they improved by having a stable government to protect it and allow prosperity just like all major empires do remember like one of the mumbles take over and run the Silk Road what happens to so long ago and it part goes down so does the Silk Road yeah all right got it all right next we'll do Islam all right so it's LOM that's that's a huge topic here your three biggest topics well four biggest topic to me China visiting Empire Mongols and Islam it's long probably the biggest topic for most of us but yet so you've got Islam it's gonna start roughly 600 so just after six and seven hundred exactly what's etcetera so this is basically the marker between the classical and the most possible so you you have the major empires of the Han Roman or least Western Roman and Gupta Empire is ending as well as Islam beginning so that's kind your marker for this transition between class full and post possible all right it's lob so that's gonna start in what area Arabia it's only called Saudi Arabia now because the Saudi tribe is taken over Arabia well yeah Arabia is that area the Arab peninsula Arabian Peninsula this thing it's called peninsula by the whiteness is surrounded by B whatever any notion Persian gold and Red Sea Peninsula means is surrounded by three sides of water all right so Arabian Peninsula you have a couple cities here the most powerful one is gonna be a city called Mecca Mecca trade city the old Arab religions were polytheistic and they believed all the gods and spirits existed in this big cube in Mecca called the August the journey to discover and of course wait don't I take that back the Kaaba might be new for Islam damn I should know this by forgotten sorry everyone but I do know for sure travelling to Mecca you think had the Kaaba but traveling to Mecca was required that's called the Hajj right they would make that pilgrimage to Mecca I'm pretty sure the Kaaba was there though all right so pilgrimage to Mecca is a required part of most of these Arabian polytheistic religions okay so is Mecca a inegalitarian it wasn't a good servant correctly so did you so the Kaaba was already there but was Mecca a an egalitarian City no there's a lot of social disparity here it was a big trade City said a lot forward a lot of very rich so that not too popular so who had a problem with this the setup in Mecca Mohammed disliked the social disparity in Mecca so you get out to the desert had corn head speaks with along which is the word for God or an angel and then of course writes this these these texts it writes down what what is a there's visions were disconnection here so a lot of its gonna be influenced by these Arab beliefs but also there's a few monotheistic religions in the area that also profoundly influence the UH beliefs of Islam were those over those three there's three of them what are the three monotheistic of monotheistic religious never before around yep so I have the Persians over here right next to them right this this is the Arab peninsula right here right so we got the Persians right next to their Zoroastrian and then who's also right next to him yep Byzantine Empire but also got a bunch of Jews out there to stick up Judaism they got Christianity and you got Zoroastrians so you had to point to a religion or excuse that that that Muhammadan Islam here was likely influenced by from monotheism what was you what did you say today ISM Christianity we're actually right all the above or one of them right cool so this religion to me monotheistic and what influence does Islam take from the air open air about religions yep governments the Hajj right if I has the five pillars now this um at least this belief here this belief system of Islam's have five pillars one of them of course is gonna be one God Allah that's monotheistic and we talked the influence of Christianity Zoroastrianism and Judaism on that it's also going to have believed that Mohammed was the last prophet it's also going to believe what I just say oh the pilgrims the Hajj it also believes you have to face Mecca and pray five times a day Hey lastly the last one I'm giving to the poor so who would find that but those five pillars appealing poor people absolutely would yeah so that's going for so this of course is gonna make this long appeals to the poor alright so Muhammad goes to Mecca proposes a new religion they say no we ain't gonna be a gallon tearing we like our stuff so they kick him out and he goes to Medina instead rallies up some support they make an invasion force and they take over Mecca and then they keep taking over more and more and more areas of the air peninsula so what do people do back then when you were conquered by another religion usually a lot of people would convert like well I guess our our gods must have sucked these gods must be better because they want right so that made people a lot more likely to convert to Islam plus because they were doing so well right so one would be of course the appeal of the poor most people were poor even today but then and also to the success of the conquests led to conversion all right cool so Mohammed is going to unify what region yeah they are Peninsula right so he's gonna do that then he eventually dies and we have that era of like the four caliphs for like another fifty years or so we're gonna wrote down I'm just riffing number eight years there's no write down so wrote my fifty years I'm guessing on that but we have the air of the four pallets that spread it even further so they actually don't concur but they pushed back the Byzantine Empire out of the level on the Middle East and out of Egypt they do fully conquer the Sassanid Empire Persia like is these guys have been think about it the Miss Deane Empire and the Persian Empire and fighting each other for so long they're worn out there weakens they're focusing on each other and all of a sudden these arab invaders show up out of nowhere and they and they start wreaking havoc they conquer the Persians they pushed back the Byzantine Empire and they continued into North Africa as well by the way these Arabs conquering and settling these areas in the Middle East and North Africa what was that migration called Arab migration right and what do they spread their this for this long absolutely well snake spread their language and their culture so what I call that Islam izing or Arab izing Arab eyes yes so they're going to Arab eyes Middle East yeah Muhammad in the caliphs air buys the Middle East and North Africa so what cultural language is going to the Middle East North Africa Arabic what's an area that conquer that does not adopt Arabic culture language but does take their religion Persia right so what would I what we're going to use to describe Persian with Islamize yes and they Islamize persian all right the calyx split though that ends the Umayyad caliphate takes over when they continue and they conquer all the way into Spain until they're stopped by the French and they conquer all the way up into Central Asia and actually contract convert the Turks so who else is my side the Persians okay some people in Spain yep not the whole thing with a lot of it what else with who else it's a it's a really important group that they convert to Islam that spreads this later yeah the Turks right and they also estimize the Turks so we have Muhammad with the four caliphs let me have the Umayyad Caliphate give you most of the conquests like they finish the conquests and then what's David about conquered everything we have another sort of resurgence here someone else takes over this is the one you guys know more more thoroughly that's these opposite Caliphate or a bastard caliphate somebody explain that to her whatever has been terrorizing in Islam Isaac everybody thing is when you spread the culture and the religion and relators of the arrows it is amazing it's just ready religion so if I was air biased that means I had Arab settler and I adopted a lot of their language and culture if I was Islamize like in Persia which already has a long-standing history of culture and government and language they're just gonna take the religion right yep four counts what's a caliph by the way it's a new type of government caliphate anyway caliphs can do what they can do two things yep they can they can adjust political and religious laws who can only early adjust who has to enforce whether Sahaba can only like change political awesome yeah Sultan's right exactly and most Sultan's are not Arabic or an era most caliphs the fact I think maybe all cares I can't say the know completely but I've lived almost all cares almost all caliphs are gonna be Arabic hey you try talking for 12 hours see what happens the Sultan's have political authority but not religious authority I mean to enforce religious law but or Islamic law I can't change I don't know their names it's just that's who took over after Mohammed they kind of split like four caliphs and then the group took over and conquered most of the rest of the area spreading islam to spain finishing it off in north africa getting the central asia which is big because not only the persians now with the turkish people as well the turkic tribes cuz they're gonna go on a on an invasion spree right before and after the mongols and they're gonna spread islam even further all right so Islamized areas are persia the spanish Turks and of course Arab eyes are gonna be Middle East and North Africa this by the way when all these Arabs move to and settle in the Middle East and North Africa what's that called very not Aryan the Arabic migration of Arab migration and that ladies and gentleman which is why in World War one when North Africa and the Middle East revolt against the Ottoman Empire the Turks that's what we call the Arab revolt because they spread there at this time and that's why they're Arabs and speak Arabic mm-hmm or at least their air all right cool one thing to note is the Arabs when they take over all these areas it's a it's a large area by the way I mean it's North Africa its parts of Spain they're going to has a business empire scoffs they have the Middle East they have Persia and they have a large part of Central Asia here as well so it actually spreads by force pretty far here so what I'm drawing here is conversion by conquest basically you have North Africa Middle East obviously every insula Persia and parts of Central Asia fullest paint that's all converted by conquest Islam keeps going them is it forced by conquest though ya know Hut's them spread the rest of the way trade yeah you haven't spread by trade any notion you haven't spread by trade to East Africa and it's also gonna spread by trade to Indonesian and also what's down there over 72 so it's lungs gonna keep going but not by conquest who by the way when this Empire set up and the Abbess of Caliphate is running it they set up a an imperial city what's their Imperial City for this for this apposite caliphate guys remember it's a capital a rock right now nope Baghdad thang all right method Imperial City so what I'm going to find there in the Imperial City okay money heads of economics little have temples in Islamic mosques true yeah what language is gonna be centered there Arabic right what oh my god where am I find the central government in Baghdad you guys didn't say that for some reason so if you'll seem to find the central government want to find the heads of Trade the heads of culture all those things speaking of culture and centralized government the Arabs are borrowing heavily from a a civilization that's already been around for more than a thousand years they know how to run a government they have an established culture that they have borrowed heavily from both the Persians yes so they borrow the Persians form of governing right they set up Sultan's and things like that just like say traps they centralize their government they have an imperial city once they borrow a ton from the Persians as far as how to run a government what else they borrow their persons is a cultural thing they Supra ties it into Islamic beliefs what is that the veil yes the veil I don't know the Islamic world war there before but yes the veil right so they borrow the the Persian veils which used to be like an upper-class Persian women's sort of cultural I guess would say sign of affluence or how well you're doing and that sort of bled into Islamic culture as well so that what does it call by the way when I have a a religion or something come in and it blends with the locals syncretism right so it synchronizes with the the Persian culture as far as those bales go so bales and again what's the B bar for the Persians that yeah the centralized government right how to rule culture those bales as well as government style this absent caliphate can become incredibly rich and yes I realize they conquered a lot of territory but look at where it's located why are they gonna be so much richer than most empires have it at that point what favor of saving access to Silk Road in Ocean Mediterranean transparency oh wait that's all of isn't it at the time it pretty much is so every major trade network is centered where yeah in these caliphates right in the in the Middle East at least at some point so they're kind of like the Gateway to any major trade minute so they can be kind of rich rich exactly cool it's got that we'd go down all right so how it spreads by trade next looking to race to actually have space here I'm gonna come use the space now you already know how it's gonna continue spread so these caliphates are of course connected to every major trade network for the most part but they don't spread it by force it spreads by trade how does it spread by trade so to all old world Africa Asia Europe Oceania rights to all old world trade networks okay so we're gonna have merchants we're gonna spread it obviously merchants it's long we also have a thing called a mass Brooke Danny and I crept up the Jewish Diaspora in period 2 oh wow so what did I ask for that's migration yeah it's where a group of people migrations were a big movement of people into like like one area is that's a migration a diaspora is it's almost like not that you broke Muslims Muslims your baby but you didn't break on Jewish people it's almost like you take from one point you spread all over the place like with no big one major settlement it's somewhere else it's not like the Arabs had another migration and all of a sudden this became all Arabs down here that's not what happened this is a diaspora it's a much smaller scale spreading of people all over the world essentially so I had Muslim merchants spread Islam via diaspora for diasporic communities and these are essentially just merchant communities that are established so what's the first thing a group of Muslim people that settle in the apparent area are gonna build laws yes they do cool so these Muslim merchants are gonna spread through which trade networks yeah pretty much just me you know so try that one so they sell here and here and here and here here and they establish moths in these regions and all some people convert like without why people convert to Islam that's true but you also have large populations there already but she's right though so the Muslim population grows yeah I get trade benefits for converting them to Islam so trade benefits or conversion so just some examples would be if I set up a trade community here in East Africa who's gonna have the most Goods the locals there or the Muslim merchants who has access to the caliphate yeah the most emergent obvious it by a large margin so if I convert I could get some benefits like first choice of goods their right to engage and trade that person at all like maybe this guy doesn't even traded non Muslim people right so trading period first picking goods when I am trading or maybe a discount on some of the trade right so these are all the benefits I might get so trade benefits for conversion could include trade at all first pic or a discount so if I'm a local in Indonesia or Southeast Asia or East Africa and I need to make some money I've got a Muslim diasporic community that's near me for long stuff and I want to train with them what might I do convert to Islam right then I'm gonna get my trade benefits I'm gonna get to be able to trade or get my discounts or get first pick whatever right so I'm gonna have a lot of people convert just to trade with these Islamic or sorry the Muslim people because they have most of everything there is Britney spend a second but yes you are correct I kind of skipped it on the conquest program I'm gonna roll back to it so the areas that are converted to Islam through trade peaceful trade and right that is because merchants go on settle and set up mosques and people around them confer to trade with them the areas where this occurs in a places like East Africa West Africa Indonesia which is actually the largest population of Muslim people and Southeast Asia to the areas of like Bangladesh but nowadays Bangladesh Burma things like that so now I have Islam all over the place spreads wildly and in fact it's gonna it's gonna spread by force to one more area into India and 1206 and Delhi Saltzman yeah before I talk to the Delhi Sultanate this is all is this violent no it's peaceful stuck on buses trade right so it's rating based and I got these this of course is conquest based all right so once I conquer somebody most caliphates and sultanates do not force you to become an Islamic that not force you become a Muslim how do they convince you to become Muslim whatever they have two ways to encourage you like the state still protects you have a right to be Christian or Jewish or whatever but you get some benefits for converting to Islam and what are those but you want ya the duty steps for doing status right I don't understand exactly by D H I am M is status and this is essentially second-class citizen status if I'm a beanie or dema status person I can't run for office for political office I lose some business and trading rights so can people hurt me or kill me for being Christian or Jewish no but am I going to lack some economic and political opportunities yeah I will right what's another major economic incentive they here yeah the jizya tax is a tax on non-muslims evil so if I convert to Islam I want to pay the state defeat and that's a big reason to convert so second class status means I lose opportunities politically and economically label loss so there might be certain businesses I can't be participating there's certain people over to business with me I can't run for public office that is a a common negative aspect of being a demon or Edina status here and lastly of course we have the jizya are easy attacks of attacks on non-muslims as soon as I convert to Islam I become a Muslim so I don't have painted jizya tax and that is fun and to spread there oh we got that huge topic for post possible so make sure you know how it's spread by force and how they converted people that were conquered and how it's spread by trade all right okay um this is also the Golden Age of Islam so it's the biggest the biggest territorial spread you'll see for Islam of course it spreads massively but also they come up with a bunch of new scientific and mathematical and medical advances all right so they they come across the greco-roman logic they get some of the influence from India as well and this is the era it's the Golden Age of Islam a couple things here this is where they start making some advances because they start using they use Indian decimal number system they adopt that they make some algebraic breakthroughs they also start D first they start something for the first time in medical history remembers okay they start hospitals and travelling clinics but they also start with not doctors they start diagnosing diseases like they start logging and diagnosing diseases like oh you know not just thinking it's like some act of God necessarily they might have still thought that and one of them did but they started like catalog what symptoms were like oh patient starts feeling this and then this happens and this happens that it goes away this happens in this happens this happens in the need I like they started tracking those sorts of symptoms and diagnosis diseases so they started hospitals and travelling clinics which are like travelling hospitals and they also started diagnosing medicine and diseases not hearing but at least diagnosing them all right so there's one more area that you guys already sounds like you know that this slum is going to spread to by force it does not stick here well it does actually the mobile empire comes in later and keeps it there so this lump does stick around here for a long time but it is eventually pushed out and doesn't really stick now where is the last place that is loves as pretty bite force India yep so we get some Turkic invaders right because I was a key part here so for roughly 1100 to 1400 I have a thing as seers invasions called the Turkic my creation so here's the path of the Turkic migration you're gonna have many many Turks invade and settle starting it from Central Asia they're invade and settle the Middle East the Anatolian Peninsula which is like what is now modern-day Turkey they're also going to remove an ancient empire that had been there for hundreds of years and end it together in the Byzantine Empire kicked them out of that and eventually end them they're gonna even get into Europe here in the Balkans and totally of the Middle East they're gonna get into Persia and they're also going to get into the Pakistan and India so the Turks are gonna spread quite far what do they bring with them besides the language Islam absolutely this Turkic migration is going to be going into Persia India Middle East Anatolia which is modern-day Turkey and even Europe and the Balkans and they bring with them of course Turkish language culture there's an old Turkish language culture and this long force were they friendly not at all by their pastoral invaders and they usually come by force and they usually stay by force so it's not not not particularly friendly if you're being conquered by them but a lot of them work with the Mongols to like the Mongols conquer and use a lot of Turkish warriors and writers as well so we have some Turkish people go out before the Mongols go out so they get to just conquer and stay there before the Mongols actually get there yeah Delhi Sultanate isn't one of these first successful invasions of these others Turkish migrations so they they're going to invade and start conquering areas here in India and it's gonna be fairly easy for them because is there a united central government here in India no they're dealing with independent local kingdoms so that's not that hard to deal with so the Delhi Sultanate conquers most of South Asia here in India and again what religion the Turkish people Islamic so what sort of government do that or what sort of religion that train force yes am i good you race this all right so the Delhi Sultanate is of course to me in India I could do that after actually Delhi Sultanate be 1206 to like 15 something there seventeen hundred's and these are Turkic invaders they bring Islam to Indiana and what religion is not gonna hit head-on with Hinduism right and there going to be a lot more forceful in their conversion like they'll have a Dimas status in the jizya but this Sultanate is going to be a little more violent in their approach on converting people so you have some quite famous Hindu Muslim conflicts so they would do things like invade and destroy Hindu art architecture temples etc persecute into people to destroy temples arts artifacts and do you think running in killing and destroying people is a good way to convert them and keep them on your side No so this could mean ongoing things so that's gonna really weigh heavily on the on the deli Salzman this of the Moghul Empire does not do the Moghuls learned how to use the Indian roars the salmon dars to their benefit right having to collect taxes and and providing the benefits of the central government delis hoping it was a little more forced by hand so they do turn out a common currency but they're going to have a whole lot of Muslim Hindu Muslim conflicts I'm just I'm trying to spread Muslim or sorry islamic force which is not going to received well and they're also gonna have a a poor over taxing of tax policy does that sound like the recipe for longevity and success no it is not right give me a lot of conflict then they do actually last a little over 300 years which is something to say but the problem is a lot of Hindus are going to be against it conflicting with them for it which is gonna be expensive and harder to manage and they're gonna be quite famous for over taxing the people in those areas and making it difficult they want to talk about ya know just know that there's a series of conflicts between the Hindu kingdoms and people and that the Delhi Sultanate which again was Muslim was famous for violently trying to stomp this out like no destroy temples and shrines etc cool
