Now for a hilariously slippery, frustratingly heavy hatchet.
That isn't a restoration at all... Would've been nice to see him deoxidize it, grind out the pitting, sharpen, and polish it- then carve a new wooden handle. Instead we got a metal chunk that can barely cut, and would be a better doorstop.
Is there a subreddit for hand tool gore? Because I have a feeling this video would do quite well on it.
you can always tell a true artisan because their tools are unusable and ugly to look at.
it was great effort. guy went to extreme lengths to do that handle. from the pitty cast, to the hand finish i was impressed by the investment of time if not the quality of the result.
bit more practice casting aluminium and it should come out nicer.
also, use an angle grinder or orbital sander for god sakes.
